Came here for the lunch special and got a bento box a few weeks ago! I was excited to try somewhere that offers a bento box, as I can't seem to find them locally. It was a bit pricey for a lunch special (20 dollars for sushi box) and I personally think the calamari I got was a chemically- definitely not fresh. The food here was pretty good but only the sushi is worth it. I would say their main speciality is definitely sushi. The Seattle roll and California were very tasty but the other food is mediocre considering the prices. I also tried the ramen, teriyaki chicken, and tempura. They were all good but not amazing. (WARNING- they have a policy that if you have 5 or more people an 18% tip is required) The servers were friendly and polite, and I like how they served us in different courses which made the wait better. read more

My favorite restaurant. It's difficult to find places that serve Japanese yoshoku cuisine (like stewed hamburg steak) and Nakagawa serves this special menu for lunch on Saturdays. The sushi is also very good, and so are the desserts. Ramen and udon are also on the menu, which makes my kids happy. I often choose to have their daily lunch specials, which are great, but the strength of their menu is how balanced it all is, so it's possible to eat here nearly every day and not get too tired of it! Got there @ 7:30, got seated right away, ordered 6 simple rolls, partial order arrived at 8:45 for $95.00. The rolls were good but nothing spectacular. No soup, no salad & waited 45 min. watching the frantic staff in a tinny restaurant. I came here with my friends who live nearby. I wasn't expecting too much since my friends are not huge sushi fans, but I was pleasantly surprised. I have been to fancier sushi places with larger sake selections, but the sushi itself was fantastic. I would be hard pressed to name a place with better sushi that wasn't at least twice the price. I had a rainbow roll and a selection of nigiri, and they were all excellent. The gyoza and garlic edamame were and excellent bonus. I will demand trips here every time I visit! read more

I've been to this place a handful of times and it never disappoints! The service here is so friendly and warm, where the medium sized dining room offers an intimate atmosphere. There are tables as well as a bar where you can watch the chefs make all of the sushi. I always order the miso and the PNW roll because it has everything I dream of in one bite. The food was great but customer service was poor, and ruined my experience. When the bill came somebody had already pinned in the tip without explanation. I was really unhappy about that so I addressed it with a server. She replied back very sarcastically that it's a gratuity which is very common in restaurants. I said no, I normally get to choose the tip, and why did I not get to? She said it's because I had a party at five. She did not explain this to me. She said she explained it to the person who made the reservation but that person didn't hear that either, if she said it. I would've been fine with it except for her attitude.We had to leave, so I called back later and I asked for the manager. I ended up getting the same waitress and explained my frustration. She sarcastically apologized and then made me feel like I never would've tipped anything close to the 18% that was written in. In reality I always tip between 18 to 20%, but she really made me feel like crap that I wouldn't have tipped or it would've been lower. Nakagawa Japanese Restaurant serves delicious, authentic Japanese cuisine (和食)!!! They have excellent nigiri sushi and sashimi. Nakagawa also serves a variety of sushi rolls if that's what you like. The menu offers many standard Japanese dishes. On my second visit, I tried the karaage (fried chicken) and tonkatsu (pork chop) and both were excellent -- not too oily. We also ate the seared albacore salad which was light and refreshing. There are also many delicious appetizers like the brie cheese tempura! You can drink some excellent Japanese beer and premium sake. The Aooni IPA could be the best Japanese beer I've ever tasted! They have plenty of soft drinks too -- the ginger beer was tasty! The desserts are also delicious and most are made in-house. The mochi ice cream comes in three delicious flavors and the incomparable green tea cream brulee will change your life! The service staff and sushi chefs are all very kind, professional and efficient. The restaurant's decor is charming and clean, a remodel of the old Take sushi bar. Everything is great about this restaurant, sushi is spectacular and people are nice. The daily special are very good. The chefs are very experienced. They also have a good varieties of fishes so you will won't get bored. Even the kitchen specials are very unique. The owner/chef has experience in many other restaurants, and I have followed him to different places. One thing that I admire the most, he seems passionate about his job. You can tell that he is always bringing his creativity into his cooking. He has also got this special dessert menu that he is really good at. And the Sapporo draft is just another bonus. Grabbed some take out tonight because the other teryaki places in the area are closed Sundays and my family was in the mood for some. Was very expensive ($50 for 2 teryaki and rice plates with gyoza and a Brie cheese appetizer). The salad was packaged with the meal instead of separate - meaning there was only half the rice as anywhere else, and the salad was hot when we got home to eat! (Ewww). There should be both sections of the take out container with rice and the salad should be packaged apart - especially since it's $15 a plate! The gyoza was ok, not crispy on the outside though warm on the outside and cold on the inside. Chicken from the teryaki and Katsu were good which is why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. Can't say anything about the sushi since I don't do seafood but lots of asians in there which is a good sign. But they could have a great business Sundays if they fix their teryaki offerings. read more

I ordered quite a few, but I feel the biggest let down were the tonkotsu ramen and chicken karaage...flavorless!!! The noodles looked like the "instant" ones and the egg was prepared incorrectly. Avoid this place, they are extremely rude and don't want your money. My best friend and I arrived at 1:29pm not knowing they closed at 2pm. The women inside were so rude and wouldn't seat us because they closed at 2 (31 minutes later). I won't be back. Nakagawa is legit. Not just for Bothell, but anywhere in the area for Japanese food and sushi. They are reviewed quite well on Yelp and that makes sense because this place is good. I've had the bento box a couple times and it was delicious (nigiri and sashimi were a variety), the fried foods were great. I'm not describing any of this very well, but there was zero complaint from me about the food. The prices are not "cheap" as some people have complained about. The deluxe bento box is $26. It includes a lot of food. Probably more than one person should eat at a sitting, but all wonderful. The owners are from Japan and the staff are also Japanese. The service is fine for the restaurant. I see some reviews on Yelp about the poor service. They are not being rude, but really just efficient in their service. They are being humble if anything. read more

I used to work in the Canyon Park Business Center awhile back so used to eat at the old Japanese Restaurant here. This new restaurant Nakagawa is way better. I'm a fan of this establishment. I just went there last night for a friends birthday with high expectations. (We all did) We ordered a variety of foods from Sukiyaki to Burning Roll and from Sushi to Ramen/Udon. The feast was prepared quickly and the staff was professional, knowledgeable, available, and attentive. The Ramen was okay overall. Authentic and had many great items in it like seaweed and spinach. I will probably opt for some spice next time but I wanted to try it straight up. The Burning roll they called out as a spiciness challenge so I expected to contain more of the habanero roe than what was presented. Ginza in Bellevue not only gives a lot of roe with theirs and is much hotter than this place, but they also provide more on the side if requested without charge. I didn't ask for more from this place but the next time I will ask for it to be more spicy. I think they wanted not to kill me my first time there. ;) I tried some of the sukiyaki and it was well made with flavors and lots of content. Thank you for making our visit a good one! read more

Nakagawa is a wow and a win for our family! The food is absolutely scrumptious and reasonably priced. We enjoyed the garlic edamame, miso soup and gyoza (which were the best I've had anywhere). We both had the bento boxes- his with Chicken Katsu and mine with fried oysters. Imagine my surprise to see my non-fish eating partner eating and enjoying his sushi and sashimi! The quality of food is off the charts. You can tell that they have adeep love for and respect for food. Make sure to save room because you HAVE to get dessert as well. The chocolate mousse cake has a wonderful raspberry sauce. The cake and sauce were well balanced and a delightful way to end our amazing experience. The strawberry mochi was so yummy!
