Namaste India is a good restaurant but not meant for vegetarians. Non-vegetarians have a lot of choice. Sunday buffet seems costly when you get only two items in vegetarian main course and does not even include a complimentary drink. Also, the staff is uninformed and bit rude. They are nice to locals but rude to desis. Ambience is not good since there is very less spacing between tables. As compared, Bollywood grill in Glastonbury is the best Indian restaurant I've experienced so far. Vegetarian food is great as well non-veg. This place must be a really "hit or miss" restaurant or something is fishy with these reviews. I went for the "epic" lunch buffet on a Friday around 12.30 since there are so many great Yelp reviews. Let's just say it was awful. There were only 8 items on the buffet and none of them were good. Further-the pans were empty! They do not refill anything. I started with soup-well I was scraping the bottom of the pot to get some-by the time we left they STILL did not refill it. The chicken tikka masala, an obvious staple for Americans who frequent Indian restaurants-was left unrefilled the entire time. Is this real? I thought they were playing a joke on us. Not only was there little food-but the food that was there was so subpar. Maybe I'm used to NYC Indian restaurants, but this was not good. Everything was bland. On a positive-the "dessert" of sweetened condensed milk was tasty although boring and they did refill one thing while we were there-our water! To boot-they don't take AMEX. read more

I'm not an expert at having Indian food, but have enjoyed myself every time I've eaten at Namaste. The atmosphere is something that you need to prepare yourself for - the restaurant is in a strip mall and some of the serving vessels (especially the appetizer plates) look to be a little chipped and could probably use replacement. That said, the service and food is definitely much better than the veneer would suggest. All of the employees that I've dealt with have been very welcoming and willing to give advice if you're not already sure of what you're looking to have. Each of the curry dishes is served with family-style rice which you can have refilled as often as your table needs. The meal I generally end up having is the Adu Istu lamb. The black pepper reduction is tasty and fairly aggressive in its pepper flavor without being spicy enough to create a problem for people with American palettes, like myself. Portions are sizable and good if you're either really hungry or intending to save leftovers. I noted one of the other reviewers saying that you couldn't tell the difference in flavors between the curry dishes and I disagree. I've gone at least once with a group where everyone sampled from each other's plates and there were distinct flavors in each. As I set out to bring my daughter and her friends home from school, my daughter announced that (a) we'd be feeding one of them dinner and (b) we had to find an Indian restaurant, as this friend had never eaten that cuisine before. It would be too complicated to describe the route that brought us, but we landed at Namaste for her introduction to a complicated and delicious cuisine. It was a good choice. There's something a little different about the onion chutney they provide with the papadum which the two young ladies enjoyed so much that they polished it off completely. Our meals arrived in rather stylish bowls which have angled tops - which is an ideal design for serving the sauces onto the rice on our plates, and a nice variation from the brass bowls I see so often. We all enjoyed our meals a great deal, and managed to save room for dessert. The mango ice cream and pistachio ice cream met with great approval. Our servers were very attentive, though it was something of a surprise to have all three of them waiting on us over the course of the meal. Another surprise was that the one who took the order didn't seem to recognize the word "chai" when we asked for it, and indeed it's listed as "spiced tea" on the menu. Another waiter, however, called it chai when he brought it to us - and unlike every other Indian restaurant I can remember, it's served entirely unsweetened, with sweetener packets on the side. Odd. Finding it wasn't too difficult; I managed to turn into the right plaza from Queen Street without driving past it once (that's unusual for me). The door gave us all pause for a moment. It's set on a right angle to the sidewalk to create a bit of a vestibule, and we all wondered if we had to enter it through the door of the Mexican restaurant next door. When we first walked into Namaste India, we weren't greeted. No hello, or it'll be about 10-15 minutes, nothing. It didn't take long for us to get our table maybe about 10 minutes. When we sat down at our table we waited, and waited, and I was getting a little irritated. The waiter seemed to be very busy, so I stayed patient and polite. When we placed our order, the place was filled. By the time we got our food, there were only 3 other tables still filled. The waiter made it seem like he was doing me a favor by giving me free refills (2) which makes me wonder still if they have free refills for soda or if they charge by the glass. I was surprised and dismayed to get Mattar Paneer that was spicy hot. I left a little perturbed because it wasn't what I was expecting. But the next day, I made some basmati rice at home and reheated my food and I realized how awesome it really is. Wow! It really was great. I think that maybe they were a little caught off guard at how many people they had in their dining room and were struggling to keep up. I would definitely go again to this restaurant during hours when it's not too swamped, because I really felt the service could have been better and probably would be better when they aren't so busy. Since coming back from CA I wasn't sure if I would find any Indian cuisine that could compare. However, I ended up finding this place on Uber eats and it was amazingly delicious. We had ordered the Samosas, Tikki Masala and Chicken Curry. YuM! So good and flavorful. The naan was fresh and hot even after a 25 minute delivery! The chicken was so tender and melts in your mouth. My only complaint was that one of the containers was not sealed completely and we lost a bit of our chicken curry to the bag. Otherwise we will be going here regularly! read more

Really enjoyed the food here. We went when they first opened up so service was a little "wet behind the ears" but understandable. Hopefully they got themselves into a groove by now. i saw this restaurant on group on. so i thought to give it a try. i went there for dinner. the server didn't really understand my language even though i was speaking in english. he directed to me a table and pour ice water. i told him that i want water without ice. he camd after 16 minute and said that he forgot. i ordered samosa chat, karahi chicken with goat biryani. he served me samosa chat. it was ok not something super tasty. chick peas was super hard. so the main course was chicken karahi and goat biryani. i never ate that kind of taste less biryani with feeling off chewing sand in my mouth. chicken karahi was watery and who the hell put achar masala in karahi. its an muglae type of dish not madras or hydrabadi. i wont bother to come here again its useless read more

I am a fan, but not yet a connoisseur, of Indian cuisine and have sampled a fair amount of Indian restaurants, mostly in California. I have to say that Namaste has to be in my top three if not my favorite Indian restaurant and it pains me because it is so far away. Namaste is a nicely hidden in a small strip mall in Southington, CT nestled next to a not-so-great Mexican restaurant whom will remain nameless in this review. They serve traditional northern indian cuisine and I have found their food to be light and very flavorful. Their Masala's do not give me a heavy stomach and their curry is not too overpowering. Their dishes always seem to find the right balance between spice and richness. Their Naan was fresh and not overly filling. My favorite dishes here are the Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Korma, Shrimp Masala and above all else, a not-so-well known appetizer called Ghobi Manchurian. Ghobi Manchurian can be difficult to find and is often not on the menu at my go-to Indian joints in Cali, however, it is hands down my favorite Indian dish and I order it whenever I can. It is breaded cauliflower with a tangy-spicy sauce that is reminiscent of General Tso's chicken. In fact, Ghobi Manchurian is actually of chinese origin and has been adopted by Indian cuisine as their own. Try it sometime, I promise you will never look at cauliflower the same way again after you have had it. In short, Namaste is a winner for me. You get great food, good service, and most importantly, you get your bang for your buck. The prices are moderately high, however, their portions, food quality, and service more than justify their prices. For those who maybe are not that familiar with Indian cuisine or those who are looking for a solid, reliable Indian option in Connecticut, Namaste is your place. read more

Must haves - chicken vindaloo, green chili naan, chick pea tikka masala (not on the reg menu but will make it for you special!), and the basmati rice with cashews, raisins and onion staws. Oh so good.. Don't be afraid to order it spicy if you like heat - it seems they are still working on thier spice levels so everything comes out without any real heat to it. My guess is so that it can appeal to the larger masses (Hey, I'm all about converting them to the love of Indian food, I want this place in business forever so I don't mind having to ask them to make mine on fire :) ). Good and attentive service. Even if the food isn't out instantly, they are constantly checking in at your table to make sure your water is full and you are happy with the chutneys. I could bathe in the Tamarind one. Fair prices. Great mid-week wine bottle specials. Nicely decorated with some Indian style but does not feel like you are sitting in a tent or an arts and culture store (You know the types of places I'm talking about). The buffet is a pretty good deal and gives you the option to try more things. We've also done take out from here. On average, I would say we eat here about once a month. 5 versus 4 because their menu needs a little work. My wife and I went to Namaste for the first time two nights ago. We consider ourselves "foodies" by anyone's definition, and we eat a lot of Indian Cuisine. We've had Indian food in NYC, Boston, Chicago, LA, DC, London, San Francisco, Palm Beach, and many other places, including scores of places here in CT. The meal we had and the service we enjoyed at Namaste was, far and away, the best Indian dining experience we ever had in CT, and among the best we've ever had anywhere! Welcome: Pappadum with tamarind, mint, and mango chutneys. Light, generous, and a great way to start the evening while scanning the wine list. Appetizer: Samundri Kekra (lump crab with garlic, chiles, coconut, and cilantro). Heavenly - rich, creamy, mildly spicy, sweet, and great on top of the pappadum. Entrees: (1) Rack of lamb, marinaded in yogurt, nutmeg, black cumin and cardamom, roasted in the tandoor, and served with a tandoori dipping sauce. Perfectly cooked, with sweet, spicy, and nutty caramelization of the marinade, and nice charring of the fat along the bone (nice job with the Frenching - leaving just enough fatty membrane on to give it a delicious nibble!). Mouthwatering, simply exquisite! (2) Mushroom Saag - creamy, aromatic, herbaceous, and wonderfully garlicky. A perfect complement to the lamb! Sides: Dal Makhani (ginger-infused, slow-cooked black lentils in cream and butter). Oy! It was soooo good, and it went perfectly with the complimentary basmati rice (the rice was wonderfully nutty, served in a large, modernesque, ceramic bowl with toasted onion shavings and hints of saffron). Bread: Instead of the typical naans, we went with the Pudina Paratha (mint and pomegranate). It was beautifully toasted in the tandoor and buttery without being heavy and greasy, and the mint/pomegranate combination made it a generous complement to everything above. Delicious. Wine: they have a small but very-well thought out wine list, in addition to the usual array of Western and Asian beers, and many cocktail possibilities. For our meal, we chose the Tierra Secreta Malbec from the Mendoza, Argentina region. Wonderful, rich fruit and complexity, soft, round tannins, and more than enough spice to hold up to the food pairing. Good 'til the last drop! My wife and I have often said how fortunate we are to live in Cheshire and its proximity to New York, Boston, Providence, New Haven, and Hartford. Who would think that right in our back yard, our neighbors to the north, Southington, would be the home of one of the finest Indian restaurants anywhere? Well, from now on, WE would think! We went here based off of the good reviews, but I was extremely disappointed. We started off nervous because there was absolutely no one in the place at around 7 on a week night, and we learned why. The entrees were on average $15, which is fine if you get nice portions and great food, but the portions were very small and the food was just not good! The chicken in both chicken dishes was extremely tough and not well cooked at all. It is hard to enjoy the flavors of the meal when the chicken was so un-appetizing. The rice, was hard and did not taste fresh at all, and the poori and naan we got was average. The worst part to me was the bathroom. It was not very clean and there was extreme water damage in the ceiling tiles that had clearly gone on for a long time. The tiles looked like they were about to break from how bent they were and you could literally see the mold growing on the ceiling. I know no one is preparing food in the bathroom, but it's very un-appetizing to go wash your hands in there. We paid $50 for two small entrees and two small bread dishes, none of which were that good. I would definitely not recommend dining at this establishment. read more

My favorite is the mixed grill. *update: recently had a date night here, staff was wonderful, great ambience, loved the mango lassi! Chicken tikka masala was flavorful. Boti kebab was a little burnt and very dry. Somosa chaat= superb! Overall dinner was very good! For desert we tried the pistachio kulfi and it was so good, we almost ordered one more. I've been here a few times as it's one of the few Indian options near Waterbury. The portions are quite large, the waitstaff is excellent, and the food is delicious. I feel it is the perfect amount of "spicyness" as well. I just looked through a few of the reviews to see why anyone would give it a lower rating.. Well first off, there are a few mediocre ratings where the actual summary is very positive. I saw some complaints about the waitstaff too-- I've been here about 5 times, and every single time I think to myself how attentive the staff were (every time we have multiple people checking up on us; water is refilled lightning fast, and they are even quick to bring more rice if needed!). As for the people saying it is expensive or small portions-- I think ~$15 per meal is very standard for Indian, however I think the portions are very generous- I am a very big eater and I have leftovers every time; they give plenty of meat and sauce (so much so that you definitely need more rice to go with it, which is generously provided as I said before). Also, if you look on your receipt, there is a coupon for your next visit (I think it is 15% but not sure offhand); and a friend told me that they actually have a Groupon too! In my opinion, this is a fantastic option for Indian and I have never been disappointed! read more

If you want a short, sweet, and accurate opinion on Namaste India, listen to what fellow Yelper Jeff I. says, "They call it "Fine Indian Cuisine", but it's not fancy or elegant." True that, Jeff I., true that. I stopped by Namaste with a couple of co-workers on the way back from doing work in the field. We were all famished and wanted a meal that would satisfy quickly. The initial plan was to dine at El Sombrero next door, but the tempting "$9.99 All You Can Eat Buffet" sign standing next to the Namaste entrance was apparently too good to pass up for my co-workers. The buffet selection was more than decent, featuring a larger selection than most (if not all) the Indian buffets I've been to over the last few years, which probably explains the $9.99 price tag. The food itself was pretty good, but the Gulab jamun (the sweet dessert doughnut-like balls) was SO sweet it was sickening to the stomach. For what it was, I can't say Namaste India was bad by any means. But it really doesn't stand out in my mind as being great either. read more

I took my family last night to check it out. It was our first time going here. They have a pretty large restaurant but we were the only ones being seated. The staff was very friendly and attentive to us. I quickly noticed that many people order ahead and just pick up their food and they seemed to be pretty busy with take out orders. We ordered the lamb curry and the lamb tikka masala. Our dishes were excellent. We were asked if we wanted the spice mild, medium or spicy and we were not disappointed. The naan was hot and fresh and the raita was so good. We paid about $16 per dish which is very reasonable. They bring everything out separately. So they put a bowl of rice on the table for everyone to share but if you need more, just ask and they gladly bring another bowl to your table. While we were there, we saw that they have a lunch buffet for $10-$13 depending on the day of the week. (More for weekends) I will definitely be back, the food was delicious and we were treated very well. read more

Great! I am a big fan of Indian food and I think Namaste India was excellent. We went for dinner on a Friday night. The food was very good. We had two appetizers and two dinners. When they say spicy they mean it! The waitstaff was very attentive and helpful. It seemed like everytime I took a sip of my water they were there to give me a re-fill... which wasn't a bad thing! Extremely disappointed in Namaste on my last few visits, enough so that I feel I need to update a review. I've ordered lamb saag in which the lamb was not only tough and gristly, but had huge veins running through it. And this last time I went, the lamb on their mixed grill was also so tough to be nearly inedible. It's a shame, because their lamb used to be quite tender and tasty. This leads me my next criticism. We waited over an hour for food to be served at a time when place was two-thirds empty. I watched no less than four other parties seated after us not only be served their food, but finish eating, before we were served our order. Not once did someone come out to let us know if there was going to be a delay. When the food finally arrived, the order was incomplete. One item supposed to be included in the mixed grill was not present. Honestly, I'm very disappointed. For a while they seemed to be improving, but lately, the disappointing service and lowered quality of the food has been notable. I may have to take my business elsewhere. read more

Namaste is an Indian restaurant located on Queen Street in Southington that provides an above average dining experience in an area not typically known for offering this type of fare. The restaurant is initially a bit off-putting because it has almost a fine dining-esqe atmosphere when you first enter, but is actually priced in a manner consistent with other Indian restaurants I have been to. I have visited Namaste on several occasions and each time my meal has been good, although service tends to be, understandably, a bit slow at times. Generally, only two waiters handle the entire busy dining room, which caused some delays in service. Namaste has a typical Indian restaurant beer selection, with offerings like Taj Mahal and Kingfisher. Overall, Is this the best Indian food I have had? No way. But, if I'm not interested in driving to West Hartford or New Haven does Namaste offer a decent dining experience? Absolutely! read more

Instead we were made to sit down and the moment when we walked to the buffet counter one guy came over and said this is all what we have. Almost all the dishes were empty. I joined yelp to write this review. The word needs to get out about this place. Southington and the surrounding area has sorely needed an indian restaurant. This just happens to be one of the best (If not the best) in the state. Their lunch buffet is very reasonably priced, and all the food is incredible. Quite possibly the best indian I've ever had... and let me tell you I never expected to have food like this at a buffet or in southington. Service is just plain amazing. It wasn't crowded when we went. It almost reminded me of the Pakistani restaurant in Seinfeld. Instant refills on water, plates removed from table instantly (And they never steal your fork). Can't ask for any more. I cannot comment on entree pricing.. but even if it is expensive, it's worth it. For the buffet we walked out paying less than 24$ for 2 people + tip. I really enjoy it here. Granted it's no Taste of India but it is certainly a close second. The staff is very friendly and I have never had a bad dish here. I enjoy the mango chicken the best. Their naan is yummy and less greasy than most...I only wish they added more items to the inside. They also provide tasty cracker things with three dips for free at the start of your meal... and the bottles of wine are priced very well.
