we decided that we have to give this place a try since we loved the one in flushing ny. we walked in, there was a machine where you can order and then a counter to order. guess you ordered then you find your seats or table. when we went to the counter and ordered our food, we were not sure whether to tip or not, but we tipped anyways. when our food came out from the kitchen, they called our number and we had to get our food from the counter. the food then didnt come with utensils but there is a counter for you to get your own utensils. when we got our orders, they messed up our order at the counter, we didnt realized till the food came out. so probably best to order your food from the machine. the restaurant is just like a fast food restaurant, McDs, BK, etc where you ordered the food and then you put your trays away yourself. the noodles had a weird texture, either we werent used to them or they were chewy. the xiao long baos were pretty good. we didnt want the scallion pancakes but then we tried it. it was ok, crispy outside and a small slice of beef inside. the prices were definitely pricey... read more

Dumplings were good. I tried my friend's pork soup dumplings too and I would order it next time. Rice cakes were a bit bland. Portion sizes are large which is a plus. Service was fast and staff were friendly. They just opened at 11AM and place was already filled with customers. If you're not going to eat-in, I suggest to order food online for pick up. read more

I think they are now one of the best soup dumpling spots in Boston. The spicy beef tastes like Mala soup which is pretty delicious. Went on a weekday night around 7pm and it was crowded! It could be because it's new and people are interested. This is a fast casual dining place, so you order and go. They do have seating, but you might have to wait for a table to open up. Service is quick though. Food was pretty tasty. We got two types of soup dumplings: pork and pork with crab. Nan Xiang Restaurant is a well known restaurant among foodies in Flushing, NY and I've been there twice. However, the express version in Boston is not even close to its big brother. And if you've had many other authentic Xiao Long Bao places in New York City, this place in Boston is not something you would crave and want to go. My main complaint being it's my first time at this location is the crab meat and pork filling soup dumplings. I am paying $1 extra hoping there is crab meat, but it is a disappointment. It is mostly pork meat. They put a dab of crab on top and a hint in the pork meat, but really nothing like the real thing. This was a big disappointment. read more

If you are looking for good food...save your time. And it's an express restaurant - small, tight tables, and not the type of place to really sit down for long and have a conversation witih friends. Food is very average, and it's a bit pricey considering the food quality, the location, the self service counter set up, and all the plastic. The whole place uses plastic cups, plastic forks and spoons, and take-out type of containers for all dishes when you eat at the restaurant. Very NOT environmental. The xiaolongbao dish had two already bursted when it arrived, out of the 6 in the bamboo basket. Taste is okay and nothing to rave about, but the skin is a bit too thick. The pan fried buns (sheng jian bao) is not the shanghai style thin skin, filled with soup type of pan freid buns even though I asked the casheri explicitly whether it is very juicy and he said yes. Very busy dumplings place that just opened in Chinatown. It's their first location in Boston though I've never tried their NYC locations. Came here for the sheng jian bao and it was exactly what it should be with juicy filling, bao like skin but not quite like bao. Second time I went back, it became pan fried steamed buns like all the places that serve soup dumplings. Utterly disappointing. It's fine. It's a take away place because it's so hard to find somewhere to sit down. There are seats outside in the park by the archway which is just a block away. The XLB are okay quality and seem to be folded by machines and frozen before steaming on site, as they are unnaturally even and the dumpling wrapper didn't feel super fresh. Same with the filling. It was interesting to try but I wouldn't bother myself to come back here. My controversial opinion is that you can do better with Trader Joe's frozen XLB read more
