The food was high quality stuff. The place is somewhat hard to locate because the signs that say "Nancy's Cafe" are just papers taped to the window. The server, Nancy herself, was very friendly. My only 'complaint' would be that it took 40 minutes to get my food. I must say tho that I did make a special request that my country fried steak be griddled rather than deep fried, but I still think it came out relatively slow. read more

My first time here - wanted a new breakfast spot so made the short drive to Auburn to give it a shot. The breakfast tacos and the classic Benedict were tasty and the fruit side is the best I've seen. Nancy is such a gem and so full of energy. She made the experience the best. AND the Fire Nine sauce, created by Nancy's children, is to die for so of course we had to purchase a bottle to take home. People were nice, but wait was sooo long. By the time we got seated the rush was over, but our food still took forever to come. We waited about an hour and a half overall and it took like 10 minutes to eat our meal. We didn't order anything complicated... simple eggs, bacon, and the special, which was potato pancakes. They were basically just a mushy pile of hash browns with green onions and sour cream. The English muffin was my favorite part. This was a lot of food for us - good, but plenty. As we were travelling in the area, also too much to finish and not able to take away what we didn't eat. Nancy herself waited on us, and from the moment we stepped in the door until we left, we were treated like regular customers she had known for years. What a great little restaurant! My husband and I stopped here for breakfast today on our road trip. The menu is a perfect mix of the standard favorites and also some unique menu items to please all tastebuds and dietary needs. We were intrigued by the county fried bacon, so he tried the Hillbilly Benedict and the Breakfast Burger....YUM! The coffee was fresh and a nice rich roast and our cups were never half full. My son and I love coming here for some one on one time over breakfast. But this morning we had to grab it to-go (4-25-19), it was the 3 little pigs omelette with roasted potatoes and sourdough toast. Always mine and my son's favorite to share when it's a to-go. We get through half of the omelette and potatoes when we open up the container that has the toast inside and find a red strand of hair in it. Because it was in the middle of the two pieces of toast and then cut so it was on both slices, I just went ahead and threw that in the trash because I'm not going to have us eat something that had hair in it. So we just went back to eating our omelette, with a little side of caution. Thankfully there was no hair in that and I will still continue to come back with my son. I love this place so who wouldn't! This is the first time in many of visits that something was wrong/had happened to the food. I just hope the kitchen will be just a bit more careful with those luscious locks! Lol read more

I tried Nancy's this morning on my way out of town per my brothers recommendation. It was delicious! It was full, but we only waited a few minutes for a table to open. It just seemed so friendly and a good locals spot. Nancy knew multiple tables and kept a sweet smile on the whole time. I'm vegetarian and there were so many options for me other than the usual skip the meat scenario. Always appreciated. I loved the hot sauce that came with our meals. It was the worst chicken fried steak ever ! Menu says it's a New York but seemed liked an over cooked catfish! It was in cornmeal and way over cooked . The biscuits were so dense ! Although we live in Rocklin, we have our Toyotas serviced in Auburn for reasons I won't go into here. It usually results in breakfast while we wait. We had become dissatisfied with the place we had been going, so we thought we'd try somewhere different. Nancy's reviews were amazing, so we gave it a try yesterday, and are we ever glad we did. From the moment we walked in, to the moment we left, it was the most memorable breakfast we've ever had in a restaurant. Not only was the food amazing, we had the fortune of being catered to by Nancy herself. What a gregarious person! On top of her amazing personality, she was an amazing host. She took nothing for granted, right down how I wanted my eggs poached. I have never been asked. She also asked my wife how she wanted her bacon cooked, which was also a first for us. This is what the American Spirit is all about! It is not fancy by any means so if that is what you want this isn't the place for you. This is clearly a family owned business that cares about quality and quantity! First of all I read the mixed reviews and was a bit apprehensive. We walked in and was seated at a booth that was just cleaned up so yes my seat was wet. However I would rather have a damp booth seat then sitting in garbage! We placed our order and the wait began. I watched our server fly around the place full of joy and spirit. She delivered the order to the booth behind us. Turned out the guy got the wrong meal. The server immediate apologized and offered to take it away and quickly replace his meal with the proper meal ordered. The man said no thank you, let me give it a try. She immediately said that she would take it off the bill because it was their mistake! Bonus point for the best customer service ever. Our meals came out a bit later. My grilled cheese sandwich was by far a cheese lovers delight!!! My friend ordered the corned beef hash and it was really good! I know because I had to take a bite! I gave this five stars because Nancy clearly is the face and backbone of this country and I wish her and her family all the best with her business. All the 5 star reviews were right. This place is awesome. The only downside was the wait. If you get there on a weekend after about 8:30am then expect a 30 min wait outside, and about a 20 min inside before you get to order your food. Normally I will not wait that long, but I am glad I did. Nancy herself is a shinning star in my book. The positive attitude explodes through the whole restaurant. It's a rather small place, I think that might be the long wait time. I had a breakfast burrito and a half order of biscuits and gravy. My wife had San Francisco Joe omelet. HUGE portions, and I mean huge. I could not finish my burrito and my wife could not finish her omelet. Now for the same price as Denny's, IHOP, and other places like that, Nancy's give you just about double the food. And it's hot when you get your meals. First time trying this place after a morning hike and it was the perfect end to a great trail. Not only was the owner right there to guide you through any questions about the menu, but she genuinely wants to cook the best meal she possibly can just to your liking. This was the most pleasant surprise ever. We were roadtripping gome and our usual brunch place was closed so we tried this instead. Nondescript business front in a strip mall, but step inside! The food was home-cooked delicious, it was full of regulars, real flowers on the tables, local art on the walls....and Nancy herself was serving. She was amazing. So cheerful, knew everyone by name, engaging, clearly invested in her business with pride. I prefer real hot sauce over Tapatio and the like, and when she heard that she went straight to the back and came out with an armful of options, from garlic to ghost pepper. (!) Nancy's Cafe is our new favorite place to have breakfast! Katrina's or Edelweiss used to be our go-to breakfast restaurants, but no longer. My most recent review of Katrina's food and service is self-explanatory - the restaurant has been sold, though the previous owners are still somewhat involved, it's no longer the same. And I will not eat there again. It's not the new owners, it's the servers who stayed with the new owners. The older waitresses are completely apathetic and actually rude. I added a few things to my omelet and she rolled her eyes. I was done. We got up and left. I won't be treated as if a burden because she should have switched careers 30 years ago. My belief is: if you aren't happy going to work or doing your job. Quit. You make think no one at your place of employment pays attention - they do. The apathy leads to poor service, poor food and ultimately a poor experience. Katrina's is off my list - forever. But this review is about the amazing food and service at Nancy's - not Katrina's. Edelweiss is fantastic for omelets, but I love all the plethora of options at Nancy's. And Nancy is perfect. She chats with the customers - but never ignores other customers. She is very at ease and happy at work - my kind of lady! I have been to Nancy's a handful of times and brought my husband on his birthday. When we pulled into a very familiar parking lot (Save Mart), I was surprised I didn't realize it was even there. Locals rejoice! The "Cafe" sign was fantastic. It leaves no clue as to what it is. Only locals and those who read Yelp are going to have a clue where to find it. And Nancy seems to be doing just fine with business. We've never had to wait for a table, but it's usually a 75% occupancy, full house. And Nancy has a fantastic rapport with her customers and is an excellent businesswoman. She knows it's not just the food that keeps customers coming back - it's also the customer service. Honestly, if I go to review a restaurant and it has 5-star food, but a zero or 1-star customer service, I will not eat there, or review (unless asked by a new owner), it again. Customer service is key to keeping folks coming back. We ordered the Hillybilly benedict which had country fried bacon (seems like bacon is she staple - my kind of place!), biscuits, gravy, and a poached egg. It came out perfect! The country fried bacon was amazing. The biscuit was light and soft and the gravy wasn't overwhelmingly heavy, or thick, or greasy, and the egg was poached to perfection. As you can tell, I was pretty pleased. The proportions were generous and I had enough to have lunch later in the day. I had to try the homemade corned beef hash. Even though it's a very American dish - even though it's considered an Irish dish; It is, only in the US. In Ireland corned beef and cabbage or corned beef hash, doesn't exist. Americans created it, in homage to their relatives who immigrated from Ireland. But Nancy is the best-corned beef hash I've had in a restaurant. And I usually won't order corned beef hash from a restaurant because it usually comes out of a can - no thanks. The food was great. The atmosphere was cheerful and warm and welcoming.
