My family has been vacationing on Martha's Vineyard for 2 weeks every year since the 1970s. I'm usually very excited to eat at Nancy's. It's been high on our list of favorite restaurants here. After yesterday's dinner I'm sorry to say I won't be eating there again. I placed a large order and an item (whole fried clam plate) was missing. I had to wait to eat while the rest of my party ate. When I finally received my order the clams were overcooked and rubbery. I suffered through the meal as I was very hungry. Worst fried clams I've ever eaten. Tasted as if they were using the same oil over and over. "Nancy's, what happened?" So disappointing. read more

Wow - what a terrific meal at Nancy's Restaurant in Oak Bluffs. Terrific location on the water, amazing service & the food was some of the best I have had in years - amazing flavor & taste!! I had the caesar salad & clam chowder - the salad was large, fresh and the dressing was excellent. Now the clam chowder - creamy, great texture, super flavorful - not brothy or filled with potatoes -- full of clams!! My sister also loved the clam chowder! She had a broiled seafood dish -- the seafood was fresh, cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavor. I cannot say enough about this place - the food, service & dessert all A++ --- I actually spoke to the managers to tell them what a fabulous place - best on the entire vineyard & beyond!! read more

The location of this spot is perfect since it overlooks Oak Bluffs harbor and you can see where the gingerbread houses start. Nothing ground breaking with the menu but had your standard list of fried clams, fish and lobster rolls. We had the lobster rolls and shared some fried clams and fries. The lobster roll was on the smaller side with probably 3 ounces of meat but it did have great flavor and the meat was very tender. It was also priced really well so that probably explains the small portion. The clams and fries were a bit cold but were fine. The highlight of the experience was we were sitting next to Malia Obama. Apparently the President was on the Island this past week so they were out and about. The people who sat next to us pointed her out and then pointed out the secret service sitting all around us. She was sitting with 6 of her friends and didn't stand out too much. The couple next to us said this is their favorite place to eat when they come to the island. Have to post my Obama sighting here. He, Michelle and the kids were just finishing up their meal. I was heading to the pier for lunch with my family. There were TV crews, crowds, police tape all along the street surrounding the outdoor seating area. Diners on the 2nd floor were all standing at the window and snapping pictures of the street level outdoor seating area so we knew he was sitting there. There were secret service people both standing around, in the crowds, and some going around with beeping sticks to make sure nobody had guns or whatever. Obama was wearing a black B (for Boston Red Sox) baseball cap and a black shirt and was holding Malia, who was wearing a tourquoise shell, in his lap. Everyone was trying to act cool while they anxiously tried to snap a good photo of Obama. When they finally finished and stood up, the crowd broke out into cheers and applause. It was very exciting, even for someone who sees celebrities all the time in NYC. Wish I could say the food was just as good. The lobster roll was the worst we've had all week on the island (too much mayonaise) and the most expensive at $15 (go to #1 Menemsha Galley or #2 Net Result). But it was worth it to sit where the president just had lunch. One of the kitchen staff said he had the falafel platter. read more

I could not be more disappointed with the food and service on June 26th, 7pm (indoor dining room). I ordered their top dish "baked cod" and after 35 mins, was served spoiled fish that smelled of ammonia. After telling the waitress, she took it to the kitchen and tried to tell me that the odor was cleaning product on plate. I then ordered some sushi in order to be able to get something quickly eaten....no comped meal nor desserts...no apology....beware of bad fish! read more

came here with a large group of 10, didnt have wait to long for seating. waitress was very pleasant, and kept our beverages filled. food was pretty good, nothing too out or the ordinary though. really enjoyed the atmosphere, and after the kitchen closes we went outside to the deck area where it over looked the harbor and continued to drink more : ) would definitely go back! read more

Ate on the roof deck and it was wonderful. The food is typical seafood, but it was still good. This is just a fun place to chill out, have some beers and eat some reasonably priced seafood. You can't beat that. read more

Stopped here with the family on a beautiful spring day. We could have happily stayed all day. The local beers went down easy and they had a lot of vegetarian options which is hard to find on a small island. Will be back to try the famous Dirty Banana. Best place to sit to take in the beautiful views and watch the world go by. read more

Sorry to say the lobster roll was awful, I felt since I asked for the 'truffle' fries they could give me old lobster. I should have complained but was with a wonderful group and didn't want to spoil the time. Do better, Nancy's. read more

Definitely the go-to-spot during a hot summer afternoon to dine with a nice view of the active docks in Oak Bluffs. Food is a bit on the higher end in comparison to the rest in town,but the quality is there. The drinks are decent and made strong. The calamari was drizzled with honey and black sesame (asian fusion style?), and the shrimp cocktail was an order of 6 large shrimps enough to be a meal on it's own. The fried cod fish sandwich is pretty much the same size as the kids menu fried fish ($17), but the kid's menu items are not that cheap either (running about $11 or so). The Nancy's fries for an extra $2 with your main entree just comes with cajun spice (old bay seasoning?). The mussels order was a decent portion size and was not adulterated in anyway with excess butter or cream, and the kids definitely enjoyed the mac & cheese. Space is most comfortable when seated indoors on the second floor. The outdoor space is another story. In all, a party of 4 adults and 3 kids will run you around $200 for a full meal with two appetizers and 2 alcoholic drinks. read more

Steak was phenomenal! I have been to this restaurant multiple times during the summer. There is usually a wait, but it goes by fast. Water views from most tables and an outside upper deck. Other foods I have had wings, scallops, lobster mac and cheese, shrimp etc have been good and I'll still be going back again. Good for people of all ages and families! read more

The outdoor deck is a good spot for a quick, inexpensive, quality lunch. There are healthy options among the fried fare. The salad is fresh and tasty. I didn't try the Mediterranean options but they looked great. read more

We actually ate at Nancy's restaurant which is upstairs from the shack. It was an amazing location and view and fun to people watch all the people along the water and eating at the shack. We had the lobster salad and it was one of the best salads ever. I had the salmon and it was also very good. The service was very good. Great experience!! read more

A great place for a good meal with family and friends. After walking around all day it is a great to sit and relax, either on the outdoor deck, or enjoy the refreshing air conditioning inside. Either way it is a great place. The food is good, with fast service. Although they do not have a printed kids menu, it is indeed a very kid friendly environment. i went here with a friend who knows the island well, and it was one of the most enjoyable dinner experiences i've had in a while. we sat on the patio overlooking oak bluffs harbor, just watching people go by and listening to the latest OB gossip. the waitstaff was pleasant and knowledgable about their food, their drinks, and how to please clientele. they also have the world-record mako shark hanging on their wall, which was caught by the owner. fun tidbits like that make any dinner fun. read more

The upstairs bar has the best drinks on the Island. And because it is on the second story, the view over the harbor is by far the best in town. Food is also excellent, staff is friendly and efficient. The vibe outside is as fun as one would expect on a resort island! read more

I went to visit my best friend for the weekend as she lives in Oak Bluffs...We decided to go to Nancy's as she had never been there...I ordered a cheeseburger as did my best friend...I simply told the waitress that I wanted just Ketchup, Mayo and cheese and nothing else...Up at the top of the menu it states to please tell your waiter/waitress if you have any food allergies... However I thought it was quite clear that I wanted nothing on my burger except Ketchup, Mayo and cheese...She continued to tell me that they already put Ketchup and Mayo on the burger...So I proceeded to tell her that was fine if you put it on instead of me...Well Halfway through eating the burger I kept tasting this odd taste but figured it was a taste of some kind of seafood as everything is cooked on the grill...Finally I got a better taste of what it was and I asked the waitress what it was compiled of...She told me that it was a blend of Ketchup, Mayo, Relish, Horseradish and White Vinegar...I told her that I can not have a lot of those ingredients as I have Crohn's disease and that I can suffer a bowel blockage if I consume certain foods and ingredients...She told me there was nothing they could do for me because at the top of the menu it's states if you have an allergy you have to let the waitress know...Crohn's disease is not in anyway an allergy and is a very serious disease...They would not give me a new burger or they would not refund me my money...The manager was a pompous arrogant jerk who did not care about the well-being of another person...As far as I'm concerned he does not belong being the manager of anything... He could've cared less if I was rushed to the hospital with a blockage of the bowel...You can clearly see all they care about is money and that is it read more

This place is so rude! We walked up to the upper deck because at 5pm the sun was hitting the restaurant really strong and the out side setting was too sunny. We arrive at the hostess stand and I was holding my mother-laws hand up the stairs because after a long day of site seeing she needed to sit. We didn't know if we were going to be 3 or 7 and I understand the rules of not letting people sit until all the party is here but they have no place to wait until then. The host station is right at the top of the stairs. I told the hostess we would just be 3 then, would be easy to just tell the other we wouldn't meet up until after. We sit, order drinks, and the manager comes over. He asked if he can do anything for us. I'm thinking no we already told the other people we would meet them after. I decided to pull the manager aside not to upset my mother-in law after all she doesn't want to hear me tell him about her handicap she is just trying to sit have a drink and some appetizer. The Manager was not better. I could go on and on about what happened after, even the people behind us had an issue with the hostess. Bottom line you see and old woman who needs to sit and your policy keeps you from being human I recommend you stay away. Go next door to Sand Bar and Grill good food nice, and more areas of shade. read more

I recommend checking out Nancy's Snack Bar if you're looking for a good meal with good atmosphere right by the harbor, and don't want to spend a lot or time and/or money. The seating area is comprised of picnic benches with umbrellas, but the view of the harbor is worth the sore back you will have if you sit here for too long. I wasn't really expecting the food to be that great, but was pleasantly surprised. I wanted something relatively healthy after all the junk food I had been eating, so I ordered the Chicken Kabob platter, which came with seasoned grilled Chicken, rice, taboule, hummus and pita bread....a lot of food for around $12 (definitely enough to split with someone for a light lunch). I like that they didn't skimp on the chicken; there was a decent amount of it and it was seasoned/grilled to perfection. Would definitely go here again and try other things when I'm more in the mood for a less healthy meal - many of their menu choices seemed high in fat - fried fish, burgers, etc. Then again, if you're on vacation, it's okay to splurge a little more than usual....at least that's what I tell myself. We were on vacation and this restaurant was recommended by the tour bus driver. We had met some people from Texas on the bus and we all decided to try it. To our surprise this was a bad mistake. My wife ordered chicken and told the waiter to not place any spices on the chicken. I ordered the crab sandwich. The chicken was spicy and she was not able to eat most of it, the waiter did nothing. We had to ask for additional water and the waiter was not sensitive to our needs. The couple we met were just as discussed with the service as we were. The worst experience was the waiter followed me out of the restaurant and was complaining about his tip. I was so embarrassed that any waiter would even challenge his poor service, let alone follow me out of the restaurant complaining about his tip. Although I left him 18% for poor service, I cannot imagine what he expected. I complained to the management by phone after we arrived home with only an apology. I cannot suggest what you should do about visiting this restaurant, your choice just be aware of the tip you leave it could be an embarrassment. read more

We came with a party of 10 and most ordered seafood platter which was greasy and clams rubbery. Also ordered a scallop and cod dinner which was baked and completely dry, it tasted like it was previously cooked, then added bread crumbs, then reheated. So it was super dry & we tried to save it by requesting a sauce for it which took 30 minutes to come out. By then everyone else was done with their dinner and ready to leave. The manager came over and gave us attitude but took these 2 dinners off of our check, which was great. But then he told us that he reached into the scallop dinner and ate one and it was delicious????? Really? Why would anyone eat a strangers food ? Finally someone else got a buffalo chicken wrap and only ate half - he said it tasted like vinegar. Too bad because our waitress was awesome and so weren't the bartenders as well. Okay I know it's Martha's Vineyard. For starters I had the Hummus it was good but one of the cheapest items. My husband had a burger he could literally down with one swallow. Way Small/Big Price. Here's where the attitude comes in. They show three sizes (paper bowl/dish) Size Large I order for fried clams. Family of 3 we are going to share. Cost about 20 dollars. I get a realy small dish. I ordered large? They tell me this is a PINT. Ah yeah right, they tell me they don't go by those sizes they have on the back wall. Ah why are they there then? very misleading. I speak with the Manager he tells me that the clams are very expensive in the market right now, ahhh, nope I had just bought some earlier in the week and the price was not high. Which one is it? They are price gouging scammers. Poor customer service. We went home and a few days later just to make sure I was clear on a Pint I got a huge box full that filled the plate. Nancy's charged me 20 dollars for 10 counted them (wasn't hard to do!) clams. I reported them and I emailed the manager again and no response. Atmosphere might have been nice when I got out of my we screwed you big time shock. read more
