Ok experience. This is for a wedding gown alteration so maybe her work on pants or more "everyday" wear is a bit better. I was recommended by a friend that gets most of her alterations done here, so I figured since she was a long time customer (for pant hems and a bridesmaid dress) this place must be relatively decent. Turn around time was quick, overall alterations were worked out fine, but when I looked at one of the seams it wasn't done all the way and started falling apart. Luckily it wasn't too bad, and one of my bridesmaids was able to do an on the spot fix the day of my wedding. Maybe I should've checked before I left the store, but I figured that having secure seams should be a pretty basic skill. read more

I will never return to Nancy and I would suggest that no one go to her. I needed one dress hemmed for a wedding, a bridemaids dress. Just a hem and she charged $140.00. No complaints, even though that is expensive, because she was fast and convenient for me and it was what I needed. I have another dress I needed altered since I am in another wedding however I am 6 months pregnant. I understand she had to alter each side of the dress and use the hemmed portion of the dress to add additional fabric to the dress however when we measured she said i needed an additional 3 inches on each side and I immediately said, "i think that's too much", she insisted so I said okay. One week later I went to pick up the dress and she you had green ink on it when you dropped it off so I had it dry cleaned - I insisted the dress was new and never worn and there was nothing on dress. The green ink was apparently located right on the back of the dress slightly above the area she measured for the hemming so she would have pointed that out when I dropped it off originally. Regardless she said she had to have it dry cleaned so it was at another dry cleaning location. I had to be able to try it on in case of any issues so I had to go pick up my own dress from another dry cleaning location then bring it back to her shop. When I tried it on it was like a parachute, she added far too much fabric - as I originally predicted, so she re-measured and said she would fix it. The only positive experience with Nancy was the entire time she was being very accommodating knowing I needed the dress within a couple of days. She called the next day stating it was ready, i tried it on and although i don't love the fit of it or the way the alteration because you can clearly see the alteration panels, it would work for the wedding day. She then charged me $275... $275.00?! For one alteration of a dress?! That's robbery!! I disputed the charge because I felt overcharged, again i understand paying for a service but $275 does not add up to the service I received. I am extremely upset, I feel like she took advantage of the fact that I was pregnant and needed this type of alteration. I paid less for the alteration of my own wedding dress that fit like a glove. i took a jacket in to have the sleeve linings shortened since i'd machine washed it and everything shrank except for the lining. when i went into the shop, i told the woman what i needed done and she checked and pinned one sleeve. that's a mistake i should've saw coming. when i went to pick it up, they only altered one sleeve. even though i told them i wanted both sleeves done and it said alter sleeves on the slip, i should've known better and had them pin both. for the price i paid, the inconvenience, and the fact that i think a good tailor would check the article of clothing overall, i never came back even though it'd be really convenient. ******* update ******** nancy, or whoever the owner is messaged me to ask about my review and offered to fix the problem if i still had the receipt and jacket. i haven't been back but i'll update my review and rating if so. at least she seems to want to rectify any problems. read more

Nancy is still absolutely tops in my books, and I continue to use her regularly for my hemming and other tailoring projects. I just brought in three pairs of designer jeans, and they came back perfectly hemmed, pressed, and looking fabulous. I wanted to see what others had to say, I'm a Yelper after all :) But, honestly, I'm quite surprised by a few of the other reviews, because my experience and that of many others have been so different. Then again, I find it shocking that people don't ask for a quote before going forward with a service. (That's really basic as a consumer...and with, you know, Yelp and the whole internet at our fingertips, it's just ridiculously easy to obtain and compare quotes nowadays. So for those who get sticker shock when they never asked for the price, well, I kind of think that's the consumer's own fault, isn't it?) Nancy is efficient, professional, and I'm never surprised by the price, and in fact, having gone to plenty of other tailors before finding Nancy, her prices are very reasonable for this market. read more

I have gone to Nancy's for years now. I have probably had over 50 items altered one way or another by her. She is extremely professional, and she listens to what you want and need. Her tailoring skills are excellent and her turn around time...the quickest I've ever experienced. She gets you in and out ...as fast as you need. She is gracious and if for some reason for example....a hem comes out a little longer than you thought....she fixes it right away to your complete satisfaction. What more could one ask for??? Wonderful work, fast, and a very clean and lovely location. Hemmed some wool pants in 24 hours (!) and only charged $10. About 10 years ago, she made some raw silk dresses and shirts for my singing group to tour in Europe, and her prices were very, very fair. We beat the heck out of those clothes, and they looked as new on the last day as the first. I can't recommend her more highly. I honestly think her prices are lower than others in the area that I've called. And the quality is tops. So happy to have found her. read more

I've had formal dresses, designer jeans and workout attire altered by her. I drive from Mountain View just because I trust her quality. I also use her dry cleaning service, also great! This is my very first time writing a review on yelp. Nancy is very fast and she does a good job but she is not really consistent with her price. Nancy altered a couple of dresses for me before I took these 2 dresses to her the other day and she asked for $300 and told me to come back after 4 days. First dress needed to be hemmed and the 2nd needed to be hemmed with both length and sleeves and also be taken in very little on the waist. I was able to bargain it down to $250 and I changed my mind and went back the next day and try to get my dresses back. She said that she's already finished most of it. How's that even possible? She told me to come back after 4 days!! Such a dishonest person! I didn't want to argue with her I just decided its a lesson and I will nvr nvr go back again. I could have bought another dress for $250 !!!! I don't mind paying $150 for 2 dresses but $300 ? read more

The best I've found for tailoring... Been a happy client for years! I've had Nancy's Tailor alter everything from silk Ralph Lauren evening gowns to full length suede riding chaps (tricky to alter!) - and every time I've been pleased with the workmanship and care they take with my clothes. Just the other day, I had three pairs of jeans tailored (I'm short!) - and they did an excellent job. They carefully chose thread colors to match each pair of jeans (orange, beige, etc...) without being asked to - and the work was done in less than 24 hours. (I wasn't in a rush - but could have had them the same day, if desired...) When I went to pick them up - I realized I had forgotten my pick up slip and I was worried that I might have to go back home to get it... But, lo and behold, as soon as walked in the shop, Nancy had pulled my items for me and had already had them waiting by the counter! Nancy had seen me walking up the sidewalk, recognized me - and knew exactly which items I was coming for. Where can you get such stellar service these days? (And, I'm NOT that regular a customer, I go, maybe two or three times a YEAR) I think their prices may be a tiny bit higher than other dry cleaning "alterations" shops - but for the quality of work and the professionalism, I'm afraid to go anywhere else. (I have in the distant past, and been sorry every time...) Yeah, I could probably save a few bucks by going elsewhere - but why risk expensive clothes on cheap tailoring? Recently, I have taken a number of items to Nancy; jeans, skirts, a suede jacket for repair and alteration. I lost 35 pounds and decided that it would be worth saving some of my clothing that I liked. I think it's true to say that if Nancy can't fix it, it probably can't be fixed. She does an excellent job and is quick, usually ready the next day. Prices seem reasonable, I didn't compare because she was recommended and you probably don't want to just go with the cheapest. In one case I said I didn't think it was worth paying $45 to take in a pair of jeans vs buying a new pair and she reduced it to $35. This is not to say that one should bargain. I just didn't want to invest that much. I would recommend Nancy and will use her again in the future. read more

Finding a good tailor/seamstress can be a challenge. I used to go to a tailor in Boston who is spectacular, but having moved to CA, needed to find a more convenient one. After reading reviews on all the tailors near me, I decided to give her a try. I brought in a new sportcoat, which needed the sleeves adjusted and the waist taken in. She quoted me $150, which seemed expensive by Boston standards but I've come to expect the higher pricing here in CA. The work was done on time, but when I came back the following week it wasn't quite perfect (upper back developed lumps after the adjustments) so had to leave it and pick it up another day. (My Boston tailor sensitized me to this and always got it right on the first try.) Sleeves and waist were perfect, though. She fixed the problem on the next visit (no extra charge of course, just inconvenience), but unfortunately my confidence in her skills were shaken. Maybe this is unfair, but never in six years of going to my tailor in Boston did she need to readjust. And if I'm paying what feels like a premium price, my expectations are justifiably going to be high. She's certainly friendly enough, and the work turned out fine, so I'll probably give her a second chance the next time I have something important to be done. read more

Nancy does an amazing job!!! I used to be a nanny and would pick up clothing from Nancy all the time. So the first time I got something tailored I went to Nancy. I don't remember how much it was for the dress, but I do remember being a little shocked at the price. It was worth it though!! I put a picture of me wearing the dress on FB and everyone LOVED it. Nancy did an amazing job and I would highly recommend her. She currently has my wedding dress. Which was a price shock as well, but I was only given advice on where NOT to bring my wedding dress. I knew I would be bringing it to Nancy, I would not trust anyone else. Will update if anything goes wrong, but I doubt that will happen, I highly recommend her. If you're looking for an excellent tailor - one who gets it right the very first time, is honest, fair, fast and friendly - this is as good as it gets. If I could give her more than 5 stars, I would... I've been a client of Nancy's for 10+ years. She has tailored everything for me - from leather jackets and jeans - to chiffon blouses and silk ball gowns. Every piece has been finished meticulously - promptly - and with excellent customer service. I love her work - and she is just an amazing personality. Months may go by - but every time I stop in her shop, she remembers me - and, I never have to tell her my name. When I drop clothes off (for major alterations, hemming or even just cleaning) I know that, when I pick them up in just a few days - they will be perfect. Nancy will see me walking up to her shop and, almost before I can open the door, she has my clothes ready for me. She's that good. No, she's not the cheapest. But, I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. Nancy's Tailor is the best I've found on the Peninsula for the price. read more

I'm very torn about this review. Nancy's work is excellent - and she does work quickly. My clothes are always ready when she promises. But she is just getting too expensive. I just picked up two suits - one a jacket and pants, the other a jacket, pants and skirt. The skirt and pants only needed hemming. The jackets needed shortened sleeves and a bit of taking in along the sides. The total bill - $510!! And unless I push, she won't give me a copy of the itemized invoice - but I did see that each of the hems was $65. The work is top quality, but I will not be returning and will be looking through Yelp for someone less expensive. read more

I gave 2 stars only because I partly take responsibility for this incident... I had a cocktail dress altered by Nancy a while back. I didn't ask her for the price, but since it was a minor hem fix on a $100 dress, I assumed I would be charged something reasonable. Under $50 for sure, right?? Wrong. $165. Are you kidding me, I could have bought a new dress for that price. When I asked her why it was so much she gave me a look of disbelief and a rude answer of "Because that's the price." Nancy did a beautiful job inserting a lining in my skirt, even obtaining the lining fabric for me. She was also quite prompt (1 week, as promised). This was after 4 other alteration places refused to even attempt the job (one of them after having kept the skirt for 2 weeks). I will definitely call on Nancy's help again in the future. read more

Don't bother going any other place, nancy is the perfect tailor! I am a college student whohas scored some great designer jeans at thrift stores, though they usually are too long, wide etc. Thus, for me the name of the game is tailoring that is quick, quality and cheap! Nancy offeres all of that. I brought her pair of free people jeans and juicy cords, both of which needed to be hemmed. She measured me up and told me to come back the next day and I was done in under ten minutes! Both paints were hemmed perfectly and fit amazingly! The only reason I didn't give her five stars was because we had a bit of a misunderstanding. The cords had a ridiculous flair and she offered to take them in slightly. I agreed, having had many of my previous tailors taken pants in for free with the hemming. When I picked up my pants, she had charged me for the taking in as well as the hemming, putting me into a moment of sheer panic. Once i explained to her that I had only intended to have the hem done, she told me not to worry and that she would charge me only for the hemming. What an angel! Nancy is so professional, quick and kind. It was a great experience and I will be bringing many more pants back to her! :) read more
