    Walked here from our airbnb--arrived at 6:56A and there was one person already there waiting for them to open at 7A. The cashier that took our order was very friendly and accommodating. We opted to have our order there. Everything was plated nicely for us and my Americano came in a disposable cup. The French toasts were soooo delicious the creme brûlée is must have!! My husband really enjoyed the cookie and his chocolate croissant as well. Limited seating but it was nice to be able to sit for a bit and eat before continuing to walk around. Definitely a place you'll want to stop in and try!

    I've stopped by Ocean Side Bakery at the Kaka'ako Farmers Market and the storefront on Smith Street. I enjoy the fresh baked sweet and savory pastries. OSB also offers sandwiches and so much more. My most recent trip was at the Smith Street location. I purchased a crème brûlée cinnamon roll, a Lilikoi mini tart and a chocolate mini tart. Unfortunately, when I arrived home, the chocolate mini tart was not included in my pastry box. I called the bakery and the owner said to come by and that I would be given the pastry. I haven't made it back yet. The crème brûlée roll was understandably on the sweet side. The dough was a bit dry. 3/5 stars. The Lilikoi mini tart is delicious and flavorful. A light flaky crust with just the right amount of meringue, filling and flavor. I favor this tart. 4.5/5 stars. In my past visits, I liked the flaky croissants and lemon meringue tart. There are many options here. A cute outdoor sitting area is nice, however it's located in the street area. It's cordoned off for seating, however, it is near moving traffic. See photos.     Such a cute place! The owner used to do farmer's markets but now has a Smith Street store front. There are quite a few delectable pastries to choose from. My $8 yesterday's pastry bag contained a cinnamon roll, chocolate croissant, and soft pretzel croissant. The refreshing Swiss ice tea contains chamomile among other wonderful flavors. There was a steady line of customers while I was there. The owner is delightful! Please visit this bakery next time your in Chinatown or make a special trip - it's worth it!

    During our bike ride around town we came across this bakery. Can I just say why haven't I seen this place earlier!!!!! Like it was off the charts yummy!!!!!! Great customer service! Cutest little outdoor seating! The croissant was as good as the ones I had overseas! This place is the real deal!!!

    Did I order the wrong things? Perhaps sticking to French classics at a French bakery would have been a better idea. For example, the basic croissant, buttery, flaky, well developed flavor. The inside is "breadier" making it perfect for a sandwich. Unfortunately non French items are less successful. The apple turnover has a nice flaky crust but the filling is so sweet and has so much cinnamon in it, it's almost spicy hot. The banana bread did not rise properly during baking. The bottom is dense and dry (see pic). The bread pudding was not soaked enough before baking. There are a lot of dry pieces of bread (see pic). On positive note, prices are very affordable compared to other specialty bakeries and the service is extremely friendly.

    I remember seeing Ocean Side at one of the farmer's market and was really happy they now have a storefront. This little, unassuming spot is a cute gem that even has some tables out in front. There's a lot to choose from but I wanted to try them out and got an chocolate almond croissant. This was delicious! Crispy on the outside, warm, buttery, and chocolatey in the middle! It was a perfect introduction to the bakery. My only issue was that the worker was not very friendly...kinda early morning grumpy...but then again, some of the French are like that so maybe feeling more like Paris...LOL!     Why have I not heard of this Bakery before! I was walking around Downtown and saw this Bakery I have never seen before. Oceanside Bakery offers a variety of sweet and savory pastries. The bakery showcases its goods in the window, making it easy to see what's available before purchasing. While there are a couple of small tables outside, the area isn't ideal for dining due to its surroundings, making takeout the best option. I couldn't resist the unique Cube Croissant ($4.50). The cube tasted good, but the shape takes away the flakiness that croissants usually have. Overall, I thought this was a great hidden gem and plan to come back to try other pastries.

    Cute little bakery on the outskirts of Chinatown. There's a parklet right outside of the bakery with ample seating. Service was quick and no nonsense -- great for grab and go. I got a pretzel croissant out of curiosity. Solid mix of the salty, slightly more dense/chew of a pretzel, and the buttery-ness of a croissant. Would recommend! Would be great paired with a soup of some sort, but great as a stand alone snack. Also got some croissant bread pudding. Could I tell it was made with croissants? Maybe only because I knew it was. It was a very generous portion and well worth the value regardless. Street parking and a paid lot are nearby. Depending on the time you go, you're bound to find a space. Looking forward to trying something different when I visit again!

    Went on a weekday after I finished some work in town. Thought, today would be the best time to try this place. Went at opening and there were already 2 parties ahead of me. They just opened! I knew I made a good decision. All the goods are displayed on the window which is awesome so you know what to order once you get to the register. I went for a variety. I got a cheese pretzel, 2 ube fudge brownies, a creme brulee cinnamon roll, 2 almond croissants, and a pan au chocolat. I almost didn't get cinnamon roll, but why not? The line went fast, the person before me had a sandwich warmed up so she was waiting but I was able to order in the mean time. There are two tables right up front plus the curb also has seats as well. I'm so glad I got to try this place. I want to go back so I hope I have work in town again!

    Love the new seating area to dine. It's been awhile since I stopped by and I love how there a little area to enjoy their pasties. Met some girlfriends here for breakfast and we enjoyed the soufflé French toast with freshly made strawberry jam and the traditional butter croissant. So delicious! The salmon breakfast sandwich, tomato sandwich, and the coque monsieur with an egg was so delicious too. One cannot go wrong stopping by and get enjoying a little coffee and a pastry. The service was great and enjoyed watching a line form and seeing everyone enjoying their Sunday morning.

    First time coming here and it's good to see Chinatown abundant with small businesses. Especially when there are bakeries like this one. An amazing selections of baked goods like croissants, cheesecakes, and even fresh baguettes. We got these selections and my wife loves the pan au chocolat. It was soft, flakes, and the inside felt that a whole chocolate bar was put inside it. It was huge. The German Cheesecake was real filling and it almost took me out. The staff was nice, and the little seating area was pleasant too. We would come back here again for morning breakfast.

Every morning, without fail, people gathered outside waiting patiently for pastries. No flashy signs. No gimmicks. Just quiet consistency. That alone intrigued me. By the second day, my mind was made up. I'm an early riser, so the plan was simple: go on my usual morning run and arrive before the rush. Japanese culture and craftsmanship have long fascinated me. Through close friends with family roots tracing back to Japan, I've developed a deep appreciation for the culture -- the discipline, the rituals, the precision, and the respect for process. There's a beauty in the intentional pace at which things are done. Nothing rushed. Nothing careless. This bakery embodied that philosophy perfectly. The space itself was small, modest, and aromatic. No overdesigned interiors. No influencer bait. Just the comforting smell of fresh bread and butter hanging in the air. Some bakeries hide behind elaborate architecture and presentation, but this place understood something more important: when the product is exceptional, the product becomes the attraction. The pastries ranged from playful and charming to elegant and refined. The Salt & Butter bread was an instant staple -- savory, warm, and impossibly light. The dough practically dissolved like air. Thankfully, nothing felt overly heavy, because I completely lost control of my ordering strategy. The Kobo Kuma -- a soft bear-shaped bun filled with homemade vanilla bean custard -- was perfection. Equal parts cute and comforting. The Cinnamon Roll was solid, but the Haupia pastry completely stole the show. For those unfamiliar, Haupia is a traditional Hawaiian coconut pudding found throughout Polynesia. The flavor here was subtle yet lingering, delicate without disappearing. The kind of flavor that quietly stays with you long after the last bite. Then came the Blueberry Danish -- beautiful, buttery, and perfectly sweet. I didn't even make it to the savory options this time, which honestly just gives me another reason to return. And I absolutely will -- whether back here in Hawaii or perhaps at one of their mainland locations in Los Angeles. Some places become popular because of hype. Others because of quality. This bakery earned its line.

I also visited the bakery and tried the guava, macadamia nut, cinnamon, the special of the month (blueberry) and I wanted to try the custard but they accidentally gave me one with no filling . Even though they mixed up the custard one, the other flavors were great. The service was faster at the main bakery. I learned that they also serve coffee so next time I'll head there and try the coffee too. Totally recommend going and trying all the flavors if you can. Heads up that there is no seating so prepare to pick up and go. Also, the parking lot is pretty small so I recommend parking in the Safeway parking lot across the street. It's a mini shopping center so should be okay to park at for a quick stop.

I ended up getting a latte, black sesame kouign amann, and pandan coconut tapioca pudding. My favorite was the pandan coconut tapioca pudding which was delightfully light and not too sweet dessert. Black sesame kouign amann: A twist on the classic kouign amann. A beautiful blend of crunchy and soft. The black sesame filling adds a nice flavor. Pandan coconut tapioca pudding: Pandan pudding, coconut tapioca, topped with coconut macaroon. This seems to be a seasonal/limited item. Their desserts are from b patisserie, and they all looked soo enticing and pretty! It was a nice place to sit and leisurely enjoy coffee and pastries. I would say this place is not worth it right when they open, only because the line is soo long and it's very hectic with people fighting for seating and getting their orders in. I would recommend going later in the morning or in the afternoon to avoid the morning craze.

However, there are many alternative malasada purveyors throughout Honolulu, so I depended on local vloggers to find the best ones. This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). I'm happy to see a local business thriving but I hope they can improve their customer flow. The baked goods looked as inviting as always but they seemed a day-old or something. The butter horn was hard and not flaky as I've come to expect and the chocolate of the Boston Creme donut wasn't creamy. They may wish to consider: 1, Clearly delineating the line for the restaurant from the bakery. It was super busy for both so there was a lot of confusion. 2. Perhaps placing the number machine for the bakery closer to the door? Tourists aren't familiar with the system so it leads to some unnecessary dissatisfaction. 3. The staff had to leave the counter to get coffee - hot or iced. The condiments for the coffee were on the showcase so people had to be in everyone's way to get their sugar and cream. In fact, if you were standing near the door you had to go through people waiting in line back into the establishment to get those items. But, with all this, the two ladies at the counter were remarkably composed and helpful.
