Went here a second time after trying it out during a Yelp event in December. And once again, I absolutely loved it! I took my husband so he could try it. I got the chicken thighs with rice and he got the chicken breast with rice. He got it plain because he's not a spice lover (lol), but he felt it was a tad dry. Then he tasted my thighs and wished he would have gotten those. He wasn't aware they were boneless so that's probably why he went with the breast. Both chickens were cooked well, and we tried a variety of sauces. I had the lemonade which was so delicious. I will definitely come back to have a dessert. They had great service and we got our food very quick. Our main concern was if any of the items had dairy in it because one of us were lactose intolerant. Do yourself a favor and get to Nando's as soon as humanly possible! I've wanted to try a Nando's for years and finally got my chance at this new Oak Brook mall location. It completely exceeded expectations! I ordered a quarter chicken breast (mango lime) with peri chips and macho peas. Tremendous! Everything was delicious, but I have to give an especially huge thumbs up for the peas. They were not some bland, dull green mush - they were mostly whole and seasoned beautifully with parsley, mint, and chili. In other words, just what peas should taste like! I thought the amount of food was just right for a moderately sized dinner - and while before I ordered it seemed a little pricey, the quality of the food is so good that I think the cost is totally fair and worth it. I've had Nando's at the restaurant and to-go. To-go orders are always right, but occasionally, the chicken would be too burnt. Other than that, I've been to this Nando's twice and was satisfied both times. Aside from the great staff, the chicken is always goof juicy and the meat just falls off the bones. I took my boyfriend once and a close friend another time and they both loved it as well. I usually order the half chicken or the full platter if it's for the family. Their fries are very crispy and delicious. A host usually gives you a table number and you order at the counter before you sit down. They have bottles of their peri peri sauce near the drink fountain as well. For sides, I like their fries and corn. I wasn't a big fan of their coleslaw or their mashed potatoes. Overall experience? While taking a stroll through Oakbrook, we realized we hadn't eaten all day. Since we enjoy trying things we haven't tried before, we settled on trying Nando's Peri Peri. Located upstairs, near the hipster food court, Nando's is its own separate restaurant. Upon walking in, we were given a table and menu. While the interior has the look of a nice restaurant - finely decorated & warm - you go to the register and place your order sort of like a fast food place. Collect your utensils, condiments, and drinks from a station in the middle of the restaurant. Once your food is ready, the wait staff will bring it to the table. We ordered a whole chicken (hey, we hadn't eaten all day) with the mild mango-lime seasoning ($28). It came with 2 sides so we chose seasonal roasted vegetables and Peri chips (fries). It was tasty. Though the customizable seasoning was only on the outer part of the chicken, it must've been brined or something to keep the rest of the meat moist and flavored. The fries were meh. Roasted vegs were pretty good but I generally enjoy roasted veg of all kinds. Overall, the food was good but a bit pricey. I'd be willing to pay if it was extraordinary. The ambiance and table service were nice. It did feel nice to have a sense of agency when getting the self-serve drinks, sauces, etc. The location is convenient if you're wandering the mall in which the restaurant is located. It's definitely worth a try! 5/5 "Macho Peas" tasted interesting...2/5. it's a mix of sweet and minty. I didn't really enjoy the flavor so I added in their own sauce called "Lemon & Herb." Minus one star - AFTER we ordered and paid, a server came out and told us that they were out of rice, said it would take him half an hr to cook another batch. He asked us to choose a different side, poor planning and prep on THEIR end for a busy night. They should've comped us for the replacement, but they didn't. I got top notch service here! I'm a strong believer that you can dine in somewhere and have the best food, but if the service is not there(mediocre or rude) it takes away from how your food tastes and your feeling about a place. But this place made my night even better! Came in after being at the VR place across the way so we knew it was a little late to be walking in. They treated us so nice as if they just opened for the day. Staff was smiley and attentive and just made us feel very welcomed and cared for. I swear if I was having a bad day, this place woulda turned that around for me really quick. We ordered at the counter (because I like human interaction) and they delivered with quality customer service. Spoke with John, who I think is the supervisor, and he was really personable and sweet! interacted with about 3 other staff for other things (I asked for a cup for water, helped me by the sauces, and help getting a to-go container) and EVERYONE was SUPER nice! The food here is so crazy good and is exactly the same as the ones in the cityl!! I always get the half chicken with chips (seasoned fries). The chicken can be made to order at any degree of spiciness. I always get medium hot because anything above that is sort of unbearable. The best part is they have tons of sauces and you can even buy them to take home. Love all of their sauces. Love that they have a freestyle soda machine.Plus Nando's allows infinite free refills and you can even get a cup to go and bring some more soda with you after you leave! One week, I was in Oakbrook for a business trip and I had very limited food options since I was in the suburbs and I didn't want to Uber outside of the city for food. That left me with Oakbrook Mall since that was the only location within walking distance of where I was staying where there were varied food options. I wandered around the mall before deciding to try out Nando's PERi-PERi, since I haven't really had Southern marinaded chicken. As an aside, this is on the top floor of the mall, with an AMC theater a couple steps away from it. When I walked in, the restaurant was nearly empty, which was perfect since I needed some peace after work. There was some music playing in the background. I went up to the counter and ordered the 1/2 Chicken (extra spicy) with a side of roasted vegetables and Portuguese rice. I wanted to get the Brussels sprouts as one of my sides instead of the roasted vegetables but was told it was only seasonal. After they took my order, I took a seat by the window and waited for my meal to arrive. After a while, my 1/2 chicken with two sides arrived, as shown in the picture below. The 1/2 chicken consisted of a chicken breast, wing, leg, and thigh, plated along with a small bowl of roasted vegetables and a bountiful of Portuguese rice. I dug into the chicken and to my slight disappointment, the chicken wasn't as spicy as I thought it could have been. However, the marinaded chicken still tasted great and I got a good kick out of it. I tried the roasted vegetables next, and I must say, they are really good. I don't know what spices were used, but it was a delight eating them. I moved onto the rice at last, and aside from it having a nice flavor, I don't really have anything else to say about it. Overall, I was very satisfied with the dish, and it's quite a bargain too. My grievance about the spiciness level is just me being nitpicky, and shouldn't really be taken seriously in this review. I highly recommend this place (actually a chain that has a presence in Illinois and Maryland) to anyone who needs something filling and tasty from Oakbrook Mall and don't want to drive outside of the city. read more

Um, yum. It's so nice to see the additional food choices at Oakbrook now, and Nando's is definitely a signature restaurant. I can see why this is popular. It's a familiar food (chicken, the staple of every Midwestern household) but with some spice that might be unfamiliar and exotic. So yes, it's a tiny bit convoluted, the sitting first and then ordering, but I guess it makes sure you've got a table. We went with two sandwiches, both medium heat, and fries plus two lemonades. It's not super pricey but yeah, it can add up if you want fancy drinks or extra sides or appetizers. For us the amount of food was just right. First off, the lemonades are delicious. Refreshing and not too sweet. Our food took maybe ten minutes, not bad. It was fresh and hot. But not too spicy, I thought medium was a nice little kick and we could probably handle the hot. On the side the lemon herb and garlic sauces were really good, the garlic has a kick. Note to vegetarians and vegans, there are some options for you here, though you may need to make a meal of sides. Came in on a Saturday afternoon, probably around peak lunch time and was able to get a table immediately. It was my second and my sister's first time at Nando's. I got the 1/2 chicken with the Portuguese rice and fries as my sides. The fries were great but the rice was pretty bland and I didn't care too much for it, my sister thought it tasted like it was from a box. My sister got the 1/4 breast with a caesar salad as her side. The salad tasted like the lettuce hadn't been washed properly. Both of our chicken tasted great though. Silverware was spotty and didn't look washed well enough, but the service was awesome. I'd give service 5 stars if that's all we were rating on, the servers were super attentive and we were checked on multiple times during our dining experience. You go up to the counter and order your food, sit down - no jockeying for tables necessary - then in a few minutes your food is delivered to your table. No fuss, no muss! Peri peri is this chain's spelling of piri piri which is an Southeast African and Portuguese spice blend containing bird's eye chilis and is liberally used on everything here. They are justifiably known for their flame roasted chicken which is incredibly juicy and flavorful. The peri peri spice level can be customized to your taste. There are multiple peri peri - mayonnaise based condiments that you can use to add punch to the chicken though it's pretty good by itself. The have various spice levels for the meat I have tried a few but my favorite is the hottest. The spice pairs nicely with the seasoned fries and the sauce. It's an open area with adequate lighting, they have booths and tables for seating. Once you have decided on your meal you go up to the register and pay for your meal. They have a condiments table with different sauces to add to your dish as well. I've taken many out of state friends here and they've all enjoyed their meals and the environment overall. *The service at the Old Orchard location is phenomenal. The manager really cares about your experience and customer satisfaction. Two separate customers ahead of me got into a shouting match as one perceived the other "cut" given the cashiers were not very vocal about directing customers to their registers. We were also told by the host the only table available for five was a long community high top, which was not good for my older parents. It was 8pm on a Sunday and there were many other more comfortable and intimate choices. When we asked we were told those "sections" were closed. However, he did ultimately concede and we sat at a banquette. It's an "open" concept restaurant with counter service, why close a quadrant? I've been waiting to try Nando's since I first heard about it. And even tho I knew it was going into Oak Brook Center, I didn't know it was just one part of this big upper-level development. We had to go to the mall yesterday and it was the perfect opportunity to try them out. First of all, the location is great. They are really an anchor of this new food & entertainment area, so kudos to that. The ordering process is a little on the convoluted side. We walked in, were given a table number and a menu and told to sit down until we knew what we wanted. But rather than have someone come take our order, we then walk up to the counter to order. This seems strange. Usually when you order at a counter, the menu is on display and you can make your choices and get on with it. So the pre-ordering sit doesn't make sense. But whatever. It took about fifteen minutes from the time we ordered to the time we got our food. I think I was expecting faster, but wasn't bummed or anything by having to wait. This was a new experience. I guess I expected more of a Chipotle-type fast-casual thing. The food was delicious. I ordered the two-thigh meal with medium spice. I enjoyed every bite. The fries (chips) I chose as my side were also tasty and nicely seasoned. I will say this, getting the thighs by themselves and not being in a sandwich was not very filling. The pictures on the website and that Nando's posted on yelp show thighs about twice the size of the ones I got. I'd say each one would have yielded about 4-5 bites. But lesson-learned. When I come back I will definitely get a sandwich or wrap instead. My wife did that and left feeling satisfied. We also each ordered a pineapple lemonade, which was very good. Also, if they assign you Table 25, do yourself a favor and request a different one. That table is situated against a support beam, and there is really not enough room to accommodate two full-sized people. Toddlers maybe. Raccoons, perhaps. Mice, yes. But people? Not so much. But then again, if I eat their small portions long enough maybe I'll be able to fit at Table 25. We'll see. Great food, great drinks, fun location. I will absolutely return. But the prices left me feeling a little like it was on the high side for what you get as far as serving sizes. I don't think that will deter me from returning. I met two of my friends here for lunch (they both work in the Oakbrook area). Restaurant is located inside of a parking garage. Don't be like me and park in the garage, them aimlessly wander around for 15 minutes only to find out that you parked right next to the restaurant, but just wasted a bunch of time/energy. Anyways, the restaurant gives you a menu to look at, you decide what you want, approach the counter, and order. This is a chicken restaurant, so I ended up getting a steak... GOTCHA! I went with the 1/2 chicken with two sides. For my sides, I ordered the small side salad, and the brussels sprouts, whicch were braised in butter, shallots, and had a hint of chili. My friends ordered different items... one got a chicken pita with cheese fries, while the other order a 1/4 chicken with rice. You have to option to have your chicken 'flavored' with a hot sauce if you like. I'm a plain guy, so I ordered my plain-ish (their words). We were seated at our table, and our food came out in ten minutes. My total was around 17 dollars; I'm not used to paying for lunch (I usually brown bag it), so it was a bit pricey. Overall, the chicken was definitely the best part. Very moist (hate that word, but it really is the best way to describe it). Salad was meh... same goes for the Brussels. They weren't messed up or anything, just very bland and boring. I'd much rather go here than a fast food joint. There's good options, but most of the menu is chicken based. Their proverbial chicken with the aromatic Portuguese rice are surefire orders for me. Those are what I like most from here time and again, or from any of their branches (Lakeview/Clybourn/Old Orchard) where I commonly go to. I always choose the chicken to be pepped up on a hot scale, but I still drizzle the Extra Extra Hot sauce all over it which I mix either with the Lemon & Herb sauce or the combination of the Garlic/Wild Herb sauces. Their chicken livers are also impossibly appetizing. I often cap it off with a glass of blood orange and mango lemonade. Don't forget the frozen yogurt (Dole Whip)! The location is very favourable, and they have friendly staffs. But the restaurant is oftentimes jam-packed resulting to a somewhat slow service. read more

I was thrilled to hear a Nandos Peri Peri's open in the Oakbrook Mall. Its location is perfect. Right outside the new AMC Theatre on the second level. This one is just as good as the others. The food is outstanding. Their chicken I swear is the best in dining out now. I love the way they prepare their chicken in the different flavors or how you can add the different flavor sauces to your chicken. The seating is plentiful and the service is good. Now what did kill a star was at this location a drink does not come with the kids food selection like at the others. They charge you an additional $1.50 for a kids drink, which I think is silly, especially if other locations include this. What's with the inconsistency. Also the bathrooms are not in the restaurant. You have to travel outside in this public common area, but I'm sure that's not their fault. That's possibly just the construction layout of this area. All in all still a favorite of mine. read more
