I really don't get people's complaints here, we come here about every other week, the food is always great, the brunch is phenomenal. They have a great beer selection and the best live music in the area. The Nanola wings are really good! We would be there 2-3 times a week if they were just a bit closer to downtown saratoga. People are going to find a reason to hate it but just go enjoy the music, good and beer and you will be happy. I can dig it. read more

Went for the first time last night & was pleasantly surprised they had a restaurant week deal. We had the crawfish hush puppies, macaroni & cheese, & dessert for $20. The menu was intriguing, the service enjoyable.Everything was brought timely and exactly as we asked. We had never been here, but we were passing through and would definitely return. Nanola has gone from 4-5 to 1 in 2 years for me. Not sure if it is due to staffing changes or what, but the quality of this place has tanked. Happy hour changed from 2 for 1 to buy one get one half off. Happy hour used to apply to bar and high tops, now it's just the 15 seats at the bar that fill up by 3:30 and they won't give you it if you walk up from a high top. The taco Tuesday beef tacos consisted of a soggy tortilla, grease, unmelted cheese, and maybe some meat. The wings used to be phenomenal. They are now so small, sauces are extra, and I have also been overcharged twice on $0.25 wing night. To top it off, there is a $50 min. for delivery, compared to $10-$30 for better establishments in the area. Please step it up Nanola, you have a great spot. read more

I have to say - I almost didn't bother going to eat here with all the negative remarks. However, a fantastic local band was playing so I decided to go. I'm glad I did! I found the beer selection to be broad and the bartender very knowledgable. The service was friendly and upbeat, and we never felt rushed even though the show was about to start. I had ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and my friends had the blackened chicken sandwich, and a chicken salad. Everything was delicious and flavorful. The atmosphere is a pleasant respite from the Saratoga crowd and the up and coming Troy hipster crowd. We will definitely be back! read more

We had an excellent experience here! The food was delicious and the service was great. Out waiter's name was Connor and he made sure that we were taken care of the whole time. When deciding on a beer (they had an excellent selection), he gave us samples so we could decide what we liked. Our entrees were delicious, we had the flank steak salad and the stuffed catfish special. As we were eating a band was playing and they were so much fun! We would reccomend both. I will tell all my friends and family to come and give Nanola a try! We will be back next weekend to see the band with friends! read more

Don't let the previous reviews deter you from giving Nanola a try. I was surprised to hear such bad feedback. I can understand a business just starting out would have plenty of room to improve. I've never had a bad time at Nanola, I've never had bad food, and I've ALWAYS been happy with their service. If you've had bad service and don't give them a second try, you'll be missing out. I love the food, and I was completely prepared for spices since it is new orleans style food. I love the live music! You can actually sit, enjoy a meal, and talk while listening to the band. Some inconsistencies, but I really enjoyed the food for the price. McKenzie was our waitress really happy and smiley she was very helpful on her reccomendations, pace of the meal was just about right. The Gumbo was great!! Salad was nice, Cajun pasta has both shrimp and blackened chicken, chicken is spicey. Jambalaya was decent, red sauce and white rice were seperate, but I am used to the rice absorbing the flavors while cooking. Came here with some friends from work on 2 occasions 1st time we came for the wings they were ok cooked hard and was not heat hot when I got my plate. I like my food hot when it comes from a kitchen. 2nd time we visited for the $1 Tacos they had no flavor!! For them to be representing a New Orleans type restaurant/bar regardless what you order the food should have some type of kick to it. The service is horrible even though they are nice but they are slow as hell!! Won't hardly no one in the place and they were acting like they were full! And the worst happy hour ever who ever heard of buy a drink regular price get the 2nd one 1/2 off what kind of mess is that!!! In New Orleans a happy hour drinks are usually 1/2 off from the start and some places u can drink bottom shelf for $1-$2!!!! We decided to try this place bc of their New Orleans theme. We went on a night where music was live. Not completely bad we didn't sit where we could see or participate. We actually sat at the back the very last booth by the door. We sat forever, I'm talking 30 mins before anyone asked for our order. There was a table that arrived after us that was on their second round of drinks but not us. We were finally able to order and of course the food took at least 20 mins. My wife got the Savoy Burger (vegan option). She had to eat it with a fork everything was falling apart everywhere. I ordered fried catfish French fries, green beans and Mac n cheese. The catfish was heavily breaded with no taste. The tarter sauce was amazing tho which saved the day. The piece of catfish was huge! The French fries were the best thing. The green beans weren't bad either after adding salt and pepper. Now the Mac n cheese definitely wasn't what I expected it to be. I'm still uncertain either way. Been there twice now. Has a nice beer list and the service is very good. Justin was awesome. However, the food is just not that good. Its cheaply made and not a good value for the price. The bands are terrible and my ears are ringing from the microphone going off. Better off not having the bands. This is in a great location and could be a much better venue. Service was slow and he forgot items that we ordered. Food was cold and not very good

Had a $25 coupon that I purchased for a mere pittance. Given the reviews, wouldn't have been there otherwise. Seated ourselves at ~6:30PM on Sunday, 7/6/14. Drink order arrived at ~6:45 & ordered dinner at same time. Slow start but ok. We weren't in any hurry, just don't like feeling forgotten, is all. My "Gumbo du jour" (w/beef)/$6 starter was actually very good. I'd order it for dinner if it was offered. My "New Orleans Pasta Dish" (Cajun Scampi)/$12 entree was also good but the included sliced chicken was WAY over spiced. I like some "burn" but not pain. This was on the extreme high end of anybody's medium range, at least. Despite what many seem to think, "Cajun" doesn't require a tremendous amount of heat. In my opinion, too much cayenne destroys anything. My wife said her Roast Beef PoBoy/$11 was very good and the chips that came with it were outstanding. I know because I swiped several. Asked & was told that they're home made. We shared an order of Beignets (w/raspberry sauce)/$6. They were more dense than what we recalled in New Orleans but, nevertheless, they were outstanding. I'll cut "Gab", our waitress, some slack because she was very nice and I think she was new to the job, but she just wasn't quite ready for prime time. Our drinks, including a very good cup of coffee with our dessert for me, brought the total tab to $46.95 after tax. Not bad, I'd say, but Gab forgot to deduct the $25 coupon. It took another 10 to 15 minutes and the involvement of at least 2 other employees, including one very stern looking woman who appeared to be the boss. She was clearly unhappy. They were only a few feet from our table and when I asked if there was a problem with our bill, the boss just gave me a quick glance. Gab quickly assured me that there was no problem but that "she", pointing at the one who seemed to be the boss, had to straighten it out. Shortly after all that, I finally got my correctly amended tab. As I said, we weren't in any hurry anyway but we were finally able to leave at exactly 8PM ............ sensing that they thought that we had put something over on them. Won't be back ............ unless we've got another $25 coupon. BUT: Y'know what? I'd LOVE to see this place do well! It ain't "typical" and that's a damned good thing, is all. So, please, Nanola, stop trying to be everybody's favorite watering hole and just start being what your billing claims that you are. You want to be Cajun/N'Orleans? Just do it, damn it, but just do it right and we'll all be back, again & again. read more

We (3 of us) visited Nanola's on a Friday evening, around 6:30. Walking up to the restaurant the first thing I noticed was a fire pit outside. It was a small area, just big enough for a group of 5 people, but it was a cool thing to have. Upon entering we were hit immediately by LOUD, *LOUD* music. We were seated at a table, with my husband and I seated side-by-side. The music was so loud that he and I had to lean in slightly to hear each other. That's just obnoxious-loud in my opinion. We ordered Fried Pickles as an appetizer, then for entrees: Red Beans & Rice, Cajun Pasta and a Steak Po' Boy. The pickles were good. They had a beer batter on them and were accompanied with a horseradish ranch-type of sauce. We all enjoyed this dish. We also had salads before our meal. They were fantastic, especially for a regular side salad. There were lots of veggies and a super nice mix of greens. It was something you'd expect at a fancier type of restaurant. What I didn't like was that they don't put their dressing on the side. Our waitress was heavy handed and smothered all our salads with tons of dressing. The bottom of our bowls were pooled with vinaigrette and the bottom lettuce made you cough a little from too much dressing. No one finished it completely. It ruined a great salad. What as waste. The Steak Po' Boy came with peppers, onion, swiss and the steak. He ordered it without the onions or peppers. When the sandwich arrived it seemed paltry and sparse. The roll was large and the steak was just one layer deep, as if they didn't have enough and laid it out in attempt to make it look better. I didn't expect it to be inches high, but a little pile of meat would have been nice. He removed the top bun and ate it like an open face sandwich - with just the bottom bun - because the bread would have overwhelmed it. In spite of this our friend said he really enjoyed the flavors. Maybe it doesn't look so sad when there are peppers and onions piled on. My pasta was flat out awful. I had expected a possible cream sauce or something of substance. It was plain spaghetti tossed with oil and Cajun dried spices. It was such a weird mix because the plate was so plain looking - just like a pile of shiny, naked spaghetti. Yet when you ate it there was definitely a kick, a hotness to it. But oddly there wasn't a really "spice" flavor, just a sensation of heat. No salt, butter, cumin, pepper etc. There was a smattering of spice that was visible to the eye but it was so little. I could have been ok with the lack of flavor as salt and pepper can liven most things up. It was the copious amounts of plain oil - not even good oil either!! A fine oil would have been some consolation! The plate was just swimming in it.. Yuck. When I picked up the pasta with my fork, the spaghetti would sway a little, as spaghetti does, - and the oil was so thick it flicked off the spaghetti strands and stained my shirt. It was that dripping. When I ate I had to take small amounts and and then hold my hand under the pasta so the oil wouldn't drip onto my chin or clothing. I'm not a barbarian so this was not user error. It was just that oily. Why no sauce Nanola's? Or even butter? That would have made it better since butter would have added a texture and richness to it. I ate about 1/3 of the dish and then started to feel a bit sick - choked up a little; as one should, when they drink canola oil straight up. I used to have a friend that couldn't cook to save her life. She knew what she wanted but didn't know how to get there - like she knew she wanted an alfredo sauce but instead of making a white sauce base she just poured milk, cheese and oil over her pasta, hoping a few stirs would make it all work. Her Asian soup broth? Straight soy sauce in a pot of plain water - nothing else. I still choke a bit when I recall eating that nightmare. And that's what this spaghetti plate seemed like. That someone was trying to toss together a dish but didn't know how to pull it off. Chef, go online and get some inspiration. Pioneer Woman makes a killer Cajun pasta. Wow, that all sounded mean....but it's my truth. In the end this really sub-standard entree, along with the WAY too loud music sealed the deal for me. To be accurate and honest: My two male dinner companions agreed about the music and salad. They both tasted my pasta and hated it. Steak Man agreed the sandwich skimped on meat but said he loved the flavors. He wasn't sure if he'd give Nanola's another try, but was open to it. Red Beans & Rice guy loved his dish and he was positive he'd go back. Me? The pasta, in combination with the WAY to loud music at 6:30 pm, was a deal breaker. I really want to like this place. I really do. But when I have to wait over 45 minutes for mediocre food, no matter the time of day or day of the week, I can't keep giving it chances. I was there for brunch, sat down at 11. Didn't get food until 1215. If you go on a busy night, forget it. Trivia night? You better order 4 beers at a time, or you'll be empty handed more often than not. Friday or Saturday? There's a million places with both better food and better service. Ehh. This place is odd. The food is very underwhelming and the wait staff is very very disorganized. Do not order any sort of mixed drink at least not on a Thursday. I ordered a mojito and it tasted like water and mint- nothing else. It was awful. I have eaten there twice. Once I had the veggie gumbo w/shrimp - so boring and overpriced - it had 4 shrimp in it that had been cooked w/o any spices and the portion was small and tasteless. Their rice is gross too, which stinks because they serve it with a lot of their dishes. I have also had their blackened catfish ... it was decent. I listen to EQX a lot so I've been wanting to try this place for awhile. I convinced my friends to come here because they have a cool menu and I figured they had to be good if EQX hosted trivia here. Nope. Not even remotely close. The first issue was how long it took the waiter to take our drink order. We figured it was a hiccup and let it slide. The next issue was when my friend tried to order FOUR different beers and they were all out. She finally just settled on a Sam Adams. They miraculously could stock that beer. The next issue was with the food. My other friend and I asked the waiter if we could take the cheese out of the burritos. He assured us that would be no problem. Both burritos came with a giant side of sour cream which made us a bit nervous but we figured that was just a plating error. We both start eating our burritos and there's cheese all through them. Ugh. Seriously? Why even bother telling us it was no issue to take the cheese out if it obviously was that difficult?? We didn't even get new burritos since it took so long to get our drinks, have our orders taken and then to get the food that we were late (we left plenty of time because we wanted to have time to talk and relax). My friend and I were so glad we got to spend the evening hungry because this place sucks. This is even more annoying since the place was pretty much empty. To top it all off, the people who did eat did not like their food. The bread on the grilled cheese was so overdone that people couldn't even eat it because it was hurting their mouths. How do you mess up grilled cheese???? Honestly, I am extremely embarrassed I convinced everyone to try this place out. Unfortunately, looking at the reviews most of our issues are common things and the owner knows about them. I've heard great things about this restaurant, but was so let down. We went there for lunch and it took 30 minutes before we were asked for our order. We then had to order it to go since we would now have to eat it at work due to the time frame. It took an extra 20 minutes to get our food. They gave us 15% off of our meal since it took so long, but the only excuse was "we didn't think we would be this busy." There were only 5 tables filled in the entire restaurant. The service was terrible and the food was subpar. I definitely wouldn't eat there again. read more

Went here part of a party of six for breakfast. We had a reservation for 10:00AM. because of good reviews about it. That was unnecessary, when we arrived there were four cars in the lot on a Sunday morning in the middle of summer. We were seated quickly which was the only thing quick for the next hour. The waitress took our order and then the wait began. Forty five minutes later the food started arriving. The cook must have done things in stages. All the plates with home fries had cold home fries. Pancakes were also cold. Eggs were the only food that was warm. Toast was ordered 45 min. reordered when my eggs were brought out then it took 5 more min for it to come to the table. The only positive was bacon ordered well done was cooked to order. Also if you go bring a fly swatter to kill all the flies flying around and you will have something to do during the long wait. read more

If I could give no stars I would and I actually thought the Ceaser salad I ordered was pretty tasty. But the service sucks. After sitting for about an hour with no visit from any waiter I got up to look for one. Found a girl who said she'd find a waiter to come over. About 20 minutes later a waitress and I use the word loosely came to take our order. I ordered my salad by yelling at the waitress as the band in the background was playing was too loud and pointing to my choice on the menu. My friend ordered rice and beans which looked surprisingly like jambalaya when it arrived and a glass of orange juice which came as orange vodka. My remaining friend ordered buffalo chicken salad. About 45 minutes later our food arrived, first strike the rice and beans came to me in spite of the fact that my friend is s blonde and I am a brunette. 10 minutes passed and she brought my salad to my other blonde friend once again I'm a brunette. The salad was delicious but then it was time for the check or in other words another practice in futility. We had to find another waitress to get us our check another 10 or 15 minutes passed the check was wrong, wrong , wrong. Waited some more for a corrected check. My friend payed with a credit card which sat waiting on our table while our waitress flirted with s patron at the bar. Twenty minutes later she arrived with check in hand. We gave her a tip which she clearly did not deserve and I guess the burning question of the evening is how does this place stAy in business? I probably will never go there again and by the looks of the crowd or lack of one I'd say a lot of people feel that way. read more

I went to Nanola with the family the other night and it was a wonderful experience all around. We had quick and attentive service. I ordered the jambayla and couldn't get enough. The beignets for dessert were addicting, I definitely recommend trying them! I don't drink beer but family was really excited about all of the beer choices. This place drives me nuts. I want to give it a better rating, given so many chances, and love a locally owned businesses. But, I'm just resigned to 2 stars, and done, because NaNola can simply not seem to get it together. Wildly inconsistent, whether the service or the food. If you are coming here strictly to drink, the beer rotation is fantastic (maybe a dollar or two too high for Malta, withstanding). The music is usually great. But the food and the service has me crazy. From visit to visit either the service is on point and the food is "meh" or the service is slow and inattentive and the food is pretty darn good! Two out of the last three times I've been here an extra drink that I never ordered has showed up on my tab... suspicious. Had to request it be taken off the bill... Recovery Sports Grill, which I hate to say is a chain, just down the street is a much better choice when it comes to quality and consistency. I hope this can change at some point, because the potential of this place is so high, but will not be back for a while. read more

Let me start with I have never had high expectations with this place after the first visit here. We only continued to come for trivia on Tuesday nights, however I will not be going back after this last, most recent experience. Not only are they frequently out of things listed on the menu, but the service is the worst. After being asked for a larger party before starting our drink orders if we would have separate checks (to which our answer was yes, and she seemed to make sections of the orders) it took over an hour to get our checks. Some people were cashed out before other people at our same table received their check, when trying to cash out at the bar, as we had waited 20 minutes to even get a check after everyone else in the party we were told we needed to wait for our waitress as they were very busy (at which point most people had already left), after all of this two people were left at our table when another waitress asked what they were still doing here, when our friend replied "you still have my credit card..", she rudely stated that there were 30 cards to be cashed out before him, although they had his card for 25-30 minutes and less than 30 people remained in the restaurant. I've been here for both dinner and brunch now and can easily say that this is a fantastic place for both! Not only are the drinks great but any meal I have had there has been delicious, hot, and with quick service. We plan on coming back often and are happy that we have Nanola as an option rather than the usual malta pubs. read more

I have been to Nanolas a number of times and truly enjoy the atmosphere. The only food I have ordered was a shrimp flatbread pizza which was very good, I have had their gator bites, and they were delicious, and have also had their Saratoga chips which were tasty. This is not the type of restaurant I would recommend for a sit down dinner (for the only reason they have a small menu) but more of bar food and a fun, family atmosphere. Each night they have scheduled fun activities whether it be trivia, bar bingo or live bands which is enticing for a crowd. Overall the staff, food and atmosphere are enjoyable and for only being open 6 months, I believe this is a place to definitely check out. read more

Nanola has a best in class beer list with a diverse mix of regional and national beers on tap. Its large and open bar area with three tv setup makes for a comfortable place to hang out.
