The dumplings had an unique savory taste but it had the texture of grounded meat instead which was interesting. However the taste was delicious. I loved how the tomato bacon gravy brought it all together. The complimentary bread went better with the crab dip than the French baguette toast that it came with. I feel like the name and the atmosphere are mismatched, cafe doesn't seem big enough for what they offer. Fresh baked focaccia bread, room temp butter (as it should be!), gorgeous specials and a fun drink menu. My friend and I went for: Caesar salad - good, but I can't fathom why they aren't using their focaccia as the croutons Sea bass - delicious and melts in the mouth with forbidden rice Crab cakes - mostly lump crab (again, as it should), perfectly cooked. An unexpected gem in East Memphis. I've heard of Napa Cafe but had no clue that it would exceed my expectations. Tucked in a corner of a shopping center is the epitome of fine dining. Upon entry I was greeted with a smile and escorted to my table. Our server made sure we were well taken care of. It was literally someone standing in our section at all times just to ensure we didn't need anything. Now to the food. We started with an appetizer and drinks. If you follow me you know I'm a French 75 girl. It was good. I had the filet and my beautiful date had the short ribs. Both meals were delicious. And the creme brûlée is a must. We were seated on the left side, where half the seating was like a booth and the other side having chairs. The menu, physically, is large but short and simple. They also had a wine and cocktail list. The only thing that did bother me a little was that our table was already small, and we had 4 menus (two main, wine list, cocktail menu) across a small table. It was a little chewy, but it had a nice flavor. My babe got some soup, and then I got a wedge salad. The soup was fine and the salad was really good. We browsed the menu and we both decided on the Halibut. It was delicious! The top had a nice crust, the Halibut was tender, the asparagus cooked perfectly, and the beurre blanc was a great touch. I like that Napa Café seems to have a great team dynamic. They did well helping each other rotate and tend to tables. There was never a moment where you were left waiting or wondering about anything you needed. We also got dessert. Babe got the Belgian chocolate paté, and I got the sweet buttermilk pie. The pie was...ok. The texture reminded me more of cheesecake than pie. I liked his dessert better. Napa Café is pricey, but I consider pricing to portion size decent. The only one I had a hangup with was the Thai steak. Although it was tasty, I was disappointed at how small the portion was. Prepare to spend about $20-35+, but a lot depends on what your want. For a wonderfully unique dinner, book a table at Napa Cafe. Although they are known for their crab cakes, you would be hard pressed to find better salmon than the delicious entrée served at Napa. Presented on a bed of forbidden black rice and covered by a delicate blanket of garlic-scented spinach, the salmon is the entrée you didn't know you needed. All at once, it is sublimely savory and kissed with a sweet nutty note that leaves you craving the next bite. If you find there is room left for dessert, I humbly suggest the crème brûlée or the homemade coconut cake. With both, there is a sumptuous surprise that will make the desserts extra indulgent. Super excited about Napa cafe!! First impression as I was through the door, oh this is nice!!! After we were seated is when it went down hill. Our server was incompetent about the menu/beer list. She didn't sound like she knew much. She had to go ask other people to get the answers. Which isn't entirely the problem. She was prob new. Whatever. We ordered: Thai steak appetizer, not too bad. Meat super tender. Crab cake dip- my gosh the bread was hard as rock. The crab cake dip it's self was so fishy. Never have I ever had such a fishy crab cake dip ever. So that was a disappointment Our entrees came out, Short ribs was super dry. Not worth the calories. Shrimps and grits. felt super heavy. Which grits shouldn't be. It tasted like they put a whole stick of butter in it. Another disappointment Filet mignon was meh. Had better else where. Lastly, my pork chop that was served to me still red on the inside. Which is unacceptable. Their excuse was oh the chef messed up a pork chop before so he was super cautious about yours. Umm hello, do we not have a meat thermometer??? Shouldn't all chef know what the temperature in all meats? Especially on the menu?? Anyways, I lost my appetite after that. They took my pork chop back and I guess cook it a bit more. Yet it still came out pink as well. At this point I have given up on this restaurant. I absolutely do not recommend. Will not return . I don't understand where all these 5 stars come from? Wow wow wow! We are staying at the hotel across the street and looking for a place for dinner. I called up and was able to get a table for 12 for dinner. Napa Cafe was my very first Yelp review and so it only makes sense for me to make it my first review of 2022 after a fantastic visit on New Years Eve! I booked the NYE pre-selected menu on Open Table. It was quick and easy just as it should be. It was a flat fee menu with all taxes and gratuities included. I was able to book the exact time that I wanted. I was completely happy with the whole process. We arrived and were seated immediately at a nice table in the dining room. Our server, Jan was an absolute joy to be around. My wife ordered a Greyhound to drink and they were out of grapefruit juice. Jan came out and recommended a French 75. Neither my wife or myself had any idea what it was but Charity agreed to it because Jan was so convincing in her sell of it. She assured my wife she would love it, and she did! She even had a second one! I had a boring beer.... Ha For the appetizers we had Tomato Basil soup and the Baked Crab Dip. The crab dip was good, not overly decadent but really tasty. I liked the crostini that it was served with but not as much as I liked that bad ass foccocia bread that Jan served us. The soup was completely off the chain good! I'm not even that big of a fan of tomato soup and hate dill most of the time but this was something very special. LOVED IT!!! For our entrees I had the Scallops and the wifey got the Filet. The scallops came with a little onion salad and something called "black forbidden rice". I'm not sure what that rice is, never seen it before, but it was so tasty. The scallops were cooked perfectly and the sauce was rich and full of flavor. It said it was a curry but I'm still not sure I didn't taste peanut butter. Filet was fantastic! Lobster Mac & Cheese was unreal. Who even knew that was a thing??? LOBSTER MAC?!?!? It was all so very good! Dessert time and we are really about to burst inside. We managed to get most of the banana foster thinger down but the pie was just too much. You could feel the decadence rolling on your tongue. It sounds gross in hindsight but you can totally taste all of the fat that's in it when you take a bite. The buttermilk in the pie was cooked down perfectly and so damn rich y'all. I just can't.... Ugh. So good. All in all, this was an absolute fantastic way to end the shit show of a year that 2021 was. Bring on 2022 if this is how it will be! I made a reservation to celebrate my birthday with the girls. I put "birthday" in the occasion section of the reservation I get a call asking whose birthday it was. I tell the young lady MINE. So we came here without a reservation and boy was that a mistake. There was a bit of a wait, but the host/owner did do her best in trying to get us seated quicker. There were 3 bar spaces that would've been perfect but apparently those were reserved as well. Once we finally got seated the food was great. Thai steak a little bit salty with the sauce but it was really good, the chicken, crab dip, salad.. all were perfect. I wasn't a fan of the pomegranate margarita but my earlier lemon drop was fine. We make a trip over to Memphis about once a year for live music and food. We always try to find a place for one really nice meal, between the barbecue lol. I have considered Napa Cafe many times, but since we stay downtown, it always felt too far away. Well this time we finally pulled the trigger. I don't know what has happened. Is it Memphis? Is it the move? It took us less than 45 min for our night out from First order to done eating. I know it's not the same as Napa Cafe, but it's still not an inexpensive place to eat. As we started dinner. A family came in and their kids were playing some shoot'em up game and watching a kids show on their devices. Since they didn't have head phones, it got progressively louder. Then the Dad got took a phone call and was talking over the kids devices. We had 16 kids at a table next to us for a before dinner prom. When these young kids got a phone call, they got up and walked away. At least they had respect for the other patrons in the restaurant. The fact that our three courses of food came out in about 30 minutes, and the disturbance of the table next to us, we just packed up what we had left and paid. Why the server didn't say anything, is beyond me. As a manger was putting out leftovers into the containers, she asked the kids to turn down their devices. They did, but once she left, they were back up. And even after that( the parents didn't say anything to the kids about turning them back down. If this how they allow patrons to be, they just lost a family from going back. I will say, the food isn't as good as it was in the old location, we really liked it there. But from now on, we're just going next door to Napa. At least all the patrons there respect the folks around them. We planned and dessert and a dessert drink, but we just couldn't stay where it was hard to talk because of games and kids TV shows and parents on the phone talking loud. read more

I've been to Napa a few times over the years and have never been disappointed. Last night a friend and I were looking for a happy hour glass of wine and decided to take a seat at the bar at Napa. He has lived in Memphis over 10 years and never even heard of Napa Cafe. Well, I decided it was past time that he had been there. We sat at the bar and Craig was absolutely wonderful. He advised us on available wines, asked our preferences, and gave us a taste of a couple recommendations. We settled on a bottle of Cab and some seafood dip. The dip was excellent. I wasn't very hungry so my friend and I split a meal. The filter was fabulous. The portion was split and plated separately with asparagus and mashed potatoes. This is a very nice and classy restaurant that is beautifully designed for and a relaxing and classy dining experience. Love the ambiance of the enter place. The food was amazing. Loved the balsamic accent to the wedge salad and highly recommend it to start your meal. The Sea Bass was perfectly cooked and complimented nicely by the black rice and spinach. To end things off the Sweet Buttermilk Pie was mind blowing good. Make sure to save room for this at the end of your meal. If you're having a date night, it's a great portion to share. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the crab cakes - They have a great cocktail selection - They offer FREE private dining rooms - all you need to do is book it. One of the rooms is named after the longest standing employee-"Jan's room " and another room (my favorite) is a private wine cellar! - They offer live music on Fridays - They have a spacious bar - Patio / Porch dining is available and beautiful aesthetic - They have a party room for large bookings - The biggest plus - is the owner Glenda!
