Food, Service was outstanding. Ambience is good a bit crowded but the crowd was good!

Hey foodies ! I had the opportunity to visit Napa Cafe last weekend. It has been around for over 20 years and is one of Memphis best kept secrets. They advertise on Instagram, but they are mostly a "word of mouth " business -IYKYK! Reasons to go : - It's not a typical boring chain offering the same chicken, steak and seafood offerings - It's located in a safe and convenient location - The staff is professional and friendly - The food was delicious! I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the crab cakes - They have a great cocktail selection - They offer FREE private dining rooms - all you need to do is book it. One of the rooms is named after the longest standing employee-"Jan's room " and another room (my favorite) is a private wine cellar! - They offer live music on Fridays - They have a spacious bar - Patio / Porch dining is available and beautiful aesthetic - They have a party room for large bookings - The biggest plus - is the owner Glenda! Glenda personally went table to table and came to ask about our experience. I mentioned the other rooms and she gave us a tour ! Glenda went into detail behind every room . I witnessed how she interacted with her staff and customers . She remembered the occasion and/or name of each guest and shared the backstory of her business . There is absolutely NO reason you shouldn't try or frequent this Memphis gem! read more

Solid Shrimp and Grits - the sauce makes all the difference. Caesar salad was mostly dark green leaves over heart which is not ideal for me. We had take-out so I can't comment on ambience, etc But service was prompts and lots and lots of packing :) read more

We slid in right under the wire after a long drive from KS. The staff was kind enough to let us eat. It was our first meal in a restaurant since March 2020. And it did not disappoint. The bread, omg. Fresh and hot and redolent with rosemary. DH had salmon over forbidden rice and said they were both good, but he really liked the spinach in the rice. I had the salad special, with Japanese lettuce, avocado, and a sesame vinaigrette. DH is finishing my salad as we speak... it was a big salad. The kindness of the staff and our server coupled with the excellence of the food... thank you for breaking our restaurant fast in style. We could not be happier. read more

We hosted a party for 20 at Napa Cafe. We had the largest of the private rooms. The servers were so kind and accommodating. The hosts and bartender were so welcoming. For the event, the menu was expansive and diverse. There was something for every one. The food was well prepared and really good. Napa Cafe has a number of private rooms of varying sizes. We enjoyed Napa Cafe! To start off, the staff were very welcoming and made us feel extremely comfortable coming in. They called me early to make sure I was coming and asked for more information on the special occasion. While walking in, we were serenaded by the sounds of Alfonso and his saxophone. Our appetizer was the crab dip which was very hearty and they bread gave it the crunch that was needed. Our dinner was the crab cakes and the special which was the lamb tenderloin. The crab cakes were extremely fresh and fulfilling. The spinach and asparagus had a vinaigrette flavor which was a perfect blend either the crab. The lamb tenderloin bursted with flavor and was tender topped with the chimichurri. The cauliflower was grilled with a crunch and the rice had a very unique flavor to it as well. I met 6 of my oldest friends at Napa last night for a mid winter celebration. The restaurant is lovely and welcoming. Glenda Hastings and her team continue to create an atmosphere that beckons the diner to sit back and simply enjoy the experience. We 100% did! The server was kind, helpful and not overbearing. The food was simply fantastic. I had the special salad of the night which has perfect fresh lettuce, black sesame seeds and a fabulously flavorful vinaigrette. Then I had the sea bass which blew my mind. Beautifully plated and large portions. Fantastic! I only had one slice of the bread because I was concerned I would eat the whole basket. The food quantity was small and my scallops were over cooked. We were also a part of a large party. One person had an issue with their food and the general Manager treated her and the party with extreme disrespect. The owner- while present in the building- never came to rectify the issue. Over time things sometimes change but the quality of great food has not changed here! We moved further East about three years ago and had not been to Napa in a number since Covid. The place still looks fantastic. As you walk in there Ina neighborhood feel and everyone is friendly. The owner, Glenda is there to greet you like you area regular! The stuffed peppers are fantastic! The wine list has many great choices at a fair price! The lamb tenderloin special is Special! So if you are looking for a special evening out this is a great place! If you are looking for great food this is a great place! If you have a large group they have a private dinning in the back that our Company has used in the past! Great girls night out at Napa Cafe! We booked the wine cellar private room. Fits 4 comfortably... any more would be too tight. Food was excellent. It had been quite some time since my last visit. Cocktails, Appetizers, Salads, entrees and deserts all superb. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a pic of desert and a couple of the cocktails. There's no specific cocktail menu, but a full wine list. However, request the cocktail you want and they prepare it with ease. I like surf & turf and although there was no menu option, we were able to split the filet & crab cake order between two of us. We went for dinner tonight to celebrate our anniversary, we had the stuffed peppers as an appetizer and they were amazing! Next we shared the wedge salad that was also very tasty. We had the short ribs for our entrees and even got dessert to go . The buttermilk pie ! Excellent service , excellent food, excellent atmosphere! We work in the restaurant industry and unfortunately our only off days are when they are closed or else we would make it in more often !! Although this is not the first high end restaurant I have visited in a strip mall, such locations always surprise me a bit. We had a five person party and needed a last second reservation; Napa had space available and good reviews, so we thought to try it out. When we first walked in, I was terrified. The decor is... dated? We walked past the main dining room and were seated in the back, at what felt like a folding table you'd find in a church fellowship hall. The chairs felt like they'd match. The decorations were very plastic and over the top. I have kids in middle school, but I felt nearly certain I was the youngest adult patron that evening. There was a saxophone player, which really fit in with the old folks vibe. At some point, I began to wonder if everything was intentionally campy. It was somehow all endearing and quite entertaining. The menu included a good variety, what seemed like mostly French inspired dishes. Lots of butter sauces. Two of us ordered fish, two had steak. I can't recall the other dish, but the food was excellent. The wine list was a bit limited, but well priced and had enough choices to match all our entrees. Service was appropriately high brow. Our waiter explained the menu well and made great recommendations. All in all, I might make this a 4.5, just as the decor was such a surprise, but I wouldn't let it deter anyone. read more

Great like hole in the wall, classy, great service & excellent food! If your staying in the Doubletree hotel it is an easy walk across the parking lot. Absolutely the best food and friendliest wait staff. We went there for our 50th anniversary and they had a nice table for two set back in a separate room. The table was decorated with 2 long stem candles and silver pebbles. Beautiful!! The waitress went above and beyond, offering to take pictures of us. We were also given a personalized scroll wishing us a happy golden anniversary. Our go-to place for any occasion or just for a night out!!! Cannot say enough about the food and the staff!! read more

Food was mediocre. Issues with server insinuating soup/salad was included with entree. Owner/manager really tried to smooth over(she really did), but still left with the feeling it was "my error." Bill with 3 glasses of $12 wine was $135 (20% tip included), with no dessert. Yes, ordered a soup and salad, thinking I'd need to pay for one. Shrimp and grits as the entree, not a fancy steak. I've had MUCH better meals overall. Likely would not return, which is unfortunate, as I live around the corner. read more

Oldie but goodie! I haven't been to Napa café in so so long, and man I've been missing out. We went arrived right as they opened for salad and dessert. (I know!!) We were embarrassed when our server gave us an after-diner tour of the facilities but walked us in on a lovely couple of young Black Folk who were having a special night in the semi-private Wine Room. Very awkward to say the least for both couples. The tenured server was oblivious to the situation she created due to Her Insensitivity. Never crossed her mind that these other diners were co-equals in the restaurant with an entitlement to place and privacy. That was a real disappointment for us and I think I will never forget it. Fabulous food, caring owner, lovely ambiance. Stumbled upon this café when we mapped our way to Whole Foods. My family and I were visiting Memphis for the weekend from out-of-state. We came to Memphis to visit Graceland to celebrate our parents 50th wedding anniversary. My sister and I wanted to pick a nice restaurant for their celebration dinner and we liked the menu. We made reservations in person with the very helpful people at the front podium. They made it a point to get the spelling of our parents names. When we arrived the next evening for dinner, they had decorated the table with a special candle and nice decorations. They even printed "happy 50th anniversary" and our parents names on the customized menus! That was such a lovely and unexpected touch! The food was fabulous. We had the Stuffed Piquillo Peppers for an appetizer, seared scallops special, and pork chop for dinner along with wonderful salads to accompany the meal, and ended with the Belgian Chocolate Pâté. I loved my Bellini martini, too. A huge thank you to the owner Glenda and team at Napa Café! An all around wonderful experience, and we will be back the next time we visit Memphis. I think that if I was 45 or older, I would give it an extra star - this just isn't my type of place. That is certainly not to say that it isn't good - it's just stuffy (white table cloths, all business people, very conservative dress). The staff was friendly and attentive, particularly our waitress, but the clientele was all over 45. My girlfriend and I stood out like sore thumbs. The food was interesting but extremely heavy for a lunch menu. I definitely wouldn't go here for a light lunch or a "quick bite." I would recommend this place for my mother but definitely not for any of my friends. read more

We made our reservation for 6:00 so we would be done before our movie at the Paradiso, and had our pick or al fresco tables. Our bottle of house pinot grigio complemented our BBQ New Orleans shrimp and lobster bisque (thin, not too fatty), along with the fruity and light Napa salad. Great date night or girls night out. This was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The ambiance was romantic & inviting, including candles everywhere. For those celebrating something uniquely special, fresh rose petals adorned their table. If you are looking for exquisite wines, they have amazing selections with complete bottle service. Our server, Chris, was friendly knowledgeable, humorous and has that special gift of taking good care of people. We started with the Stuffed Piquillo Peppers, which were fresh and bursting with gooey goat cheese, garlic & fresh sprigs of basil. For our main, we each had Filet Mignon, which we requested Pittsburg rare, accompanied with grilled asparagus and braised short rib mashed potatoes. It was nothing short of perfection!! For dessert, we shared their Bailey's Irish Cream crême brûlée. It was luxuriously rich and the perfect end to round out the evening. We appreciated how the team worked so well together, including the hostesses who came around to refill water. Every single person working was friendly, warm and cordial. I've been dining at Napa Cafe about once a month with a group of friends for lunch and I've been so impressed with the food and service. The renovation looks beautiful too. I've had the meatloaf twice and it's SO good and mashed potatoes so creamy and savory. Crab cakes are delicious and the corn/pepper/bacon side dish is delicious and unique. Soups are awesome too! I'm in love with the Buttermilk Pie, so rich and creamy, and the chocolate pate is outstanding too. I like the Grilled Chicken & Avocado salad when I'm not in the mood for a heavier lunch. I need to try dinner at some point too. In March 2014, I attended a group luncheon with about 30 people in the back room. We had a guest speaker and round tables setup with a catered menu. It was a perfect meeting spot! After that, several us continued to meet for lunch and we've become regular customers. read more

I often stay at the Doubletree on Sanderlin when in Memphis due to the vast options for dining. While I tend to like upscale restaurants, while in Memphis I normally gravitate to good Ole BBQ for lunch. Today I didn't feel like wondering too far from the hotel so I set out to find a near by place with some good food, and boy did I! Napa Cafe was just what the doctor ordered. As the relaxing piano music played in the background, I browsed the menu and decided on the crab cakes, not wanting anything too heavy. Oh what a treat. They were some of the best I have ever had. As my German waitress kept coming by to check on me I had to quickly wipe the drool from my chin. They were divine! Having just eaten some of the best food I have had in some time, I had to check out their dessert menu. After much debate, I settled on the Praline Pecan Ice Cream with Coconut, walnut crust and caramel sauce over the Buttermilk pie which my waitress suggested. WOW!!!!! This was a nice portion of ice cream pie. The praline ice cream had a subtle taste and the coconut and caramel blended heavenly with it. It was topped with homemade whipped cream and a strawberry, that somehow made this seem like a light and airy dessert, even though it was far from it. I could not contain myself and did the Goldy Hawn "When Harry Met Sally" fake orgasm impersonation right there, but I wasn't faking. OK, maybe that's a stretch, but it was out of this world good and besides, men do not get the same kind of response as women get when they do that in public. This is officially the fanciest place I've ever been in my life. I came here a few times when I lived in Memphis and recently visited for my brother's wedding shower. The staff took such good care of us and our waitress kept the Riesling flowing for me. We had a limited menu because it was an event, but MAN did we get some of the best. We started with some BLT bites, which didn't actually have any lettuce but no one's mad about that. There were also some baby crab cakes which were so good and covered in some delicious sauce. I was a little confused by the corn and black bean salsa since there wasn't a delivery system provided. Give me chips! I have officially found my second favorite salad in Memphis with Napa's wedge salad (Memphis Pizza Cafe's Greek Salad holds my #1 slot). The balsamic and bleu cheese and tomatoes... come on! One of my friends couldn't resist it and picked it up to eat it with his hands! My husband and I usually pick two different things and share them, but we both couldn't pass up the Filet Mignon. It was cooked to perfection and had these creamy potatoes with a pearl onion and mushroom sauce. MAN. NOW lemme tell you about dessert. Oh my goodness. My husband got the chocolate pate (????) which is one of their signature desserts. It looks like a brown piece of SPAM but it's like the most decadent thing I've ever tasted. I got the Sweet Buttermilk Pie, another one of their specialties. Y'all. It's a giant, fluffy piece of cheesecake. It's next level. Go here. Bring ya girl or boy for a fancy dinner. We went there with a large party, and were able to use their large back room (note to people that need to plan large dinners- this is a great place for that). I had the Filet Mignon, and key lime pie for dessert, and both were great- the Key Lime "pie" thing wasn't really a pie- it was very creative and tasty. I'd recommend both. read more
