Turns out they just have no idea how to work on older cars or anything besides a rack and pinion steering. They tried to center the steering wheel by taking all the adjustment from the tie rods. It's not complicated at all. Very concerning for a alignment and tire shop. I wish they would have admitted that rather than charging me.
