It was okay! I went in one day for lunch while traveling and I got their Italian grinder and it was way too big for me to finish. I wish someone had told me the difference between the full and the half because I never would have ordered the full! I love Italian grinders and this sandwich was a bit much for me. It is served with olives, mayo, hot sauce amongst many other toppings which take away from the italian flavor. The meat in the sandwich was always really tough and not work the $10 I spent on the sandwich. I think I will be avoiding the Grinder Shoppe in the future and sticking to local non chain delis. read more

Ordered the Italian combo n was very pleased. Wife ordered the chicken cutlet w hot sauce etc n liked it. I had a bite n it was real tasty. Granted it's slightly different that I'm used to in NYC Italian delis but it satisfies my Italian combo craving up here. It's like Blimpie on steroid. Or blimpies meets Arthur Ave. lol. My coworkers were telling me how good the cold cuts were here, and eventually I gave in and gave it a try. Since that point I've been their daily, you can expect to be in and out within 3 minutes, the employees are kind and to the point, and I can't say enough about the Italian combo. I go to the edge neighboring the shop and I highly recommend stopping by if you have $12 to spend on 2 meals after hitting the gym. Being from New Jersey, we know our way around a grinder (or sub) and always look forward to stopping at Nardelli's in Danbury. Today, on our way to celebrate our nephew T's 20th birthday, we stopped in for a quick bite to eat. Tried the soup "Thanksgiving Everyday" a very tasty turkey soup, loved it! Ann Marie had a half chicken bacon mushroom grinder. Nice soft bread, tasty chicken, more than enough to fill a hungry tummy. The people who work here are always the friendliest, love to hear the bell - "Grazie". Already looking forward to our next visit. read more

GOD DAMN. Probably one of the best, biggest sandwiches ive ever had. Sandwich came out like 3 mins after I ordered. Place was clean and the sandwich was AMAZING. I've never had such a loaded sandwich like that before. I ate the first half of my steak and cheese, and was almost full. I looked at my other half like i already ate a full meal. Nardelli's has tanked. They used to be the best sandwich shop east of the Mississippi. Now they no longer use Milite's bread since the bakery went out of business in August. They also stopped offering baked ham - only boiled ham now, Blah! Of course their prices remain as high as ever. read more

Great grinders. Heading between NE and NC, I try to stop and enjoy a quick lunch at this shop.

Everything was exactly as ordered, and arrived extremely fast. The pulled pork grinder and chicken Caesar salad was perfect for 2 hungry people, and was delicious. We also tried the Cheesecake factory cheesecake and were extremely happy we did--it was fresh and decadent. They even called us shortly after we ordered to clarify something we added in the notes section of our online order. All in all this is a great place with fresh food that arrives fast, can't ask for much more! read more

The sandwich I had was fresh and good. The place was nice and clean. The service was good. While I was there 2 sweet old ladies over paid and went to their tables. The staff member went over to the table and apologized and gave them back the money they overpaid by. I think it was like $20. There are good people in the world. read more

Stopped by for a quick lunch yesterday with my wife. The shop was clean and the staff was quick and friendly. My wife got a roast beef grinder and I got the chicken special grinder they had advertised on the board. My wife really enjoyed her grinder but I wasn't equally happy with mine. Everything was great except the chicken itself. It was cooked properly but tasted like a big frozen chicken nugget. It obviously wasn't something handmade in the back. I was expecting a cutlet with the taste and texture of the ones you get from Gaetano's in Monroe or Rocco's in Bethel. I brought the sandwich home and my sons loved it but also said it tasted like it was a frozen Weaver Chicken Patty. Even though this wasn't a great experience I would still be willing to go back and try a non chicken grinder because of the cleanliness and staff. read more

Nardelli's supposedly a legendary grinder shop in CT; hailing from CT I've never even heard of it, so in a land of not a lot of Yelp, we decided to stop for a quick lunch on the way up to Hartford. ::Sigh:: I probably just ordered wrong, but I wasn't impressed. This venue was a bit outdated, it could use a facelift, was a tad bit dingy. The impressive deli counter showing off the goods is impressive, with items ranging from chicken cutlets to chicken salad to grilled chicken etc... I went with the eggplant with the works on a whole wheat roll. The eggplant was hot, the works were cold, the bread was super bready and soft, together this sandwich was mediocre. The man's salad (already prepared) was actually decent with a hefty amount of parmesean and was pretty big portion size, so ok on that, but nothing to rave about. Overall, not the worst spot to stop on the way, but not the most authentic of italian sandwiches and far from legendary. read more

I cannot visit this area of Connecticut without hitting the Nardelli's on Newtown road. Everything is consistently delicious, freshly made, and really appealing. I have a really tough time making a decision. My favorite however is the pastrami loaf thingy. I will always stop on my last day and grab one to go, nobody else does pastrami like this. There is always plenty of parking and the dining area is large enough for even the busiest lunch days. The counter people are excellent and never miss a trick. Great selection of other items like chips, drinks, and sweets. Lets not forget the fantastic sides and salads. Nardelli's is a slam dunk for area visitors as well as the lucky locals. It was good! I enjoyed the seafood salad, and there are a variety of sandwich options to choose from. However, nothing really struck me as amazing or would make me think twice about this place. Love, love, love this place! I always go for a Grinder, usually the Italian. I am a big guy and I can still only eat the half. I made the mistake of ordering the full on my first visit and ended up taking most of it home. The sandwich comes layered with tons of meat and cheese. The Veggies are fresh and whatever that dressing is, is magic. They ask you if you want hot sauce and I recommend getting it. It's not a fireball and it adds a perfect zing. The place is always clean and the foods taste extremely fresh. Don't be intimidated if there is a line out the door. It moves very quick. If you tip the staff, they ring a bell and the whole staff says "Gratzi"! Lots of deli choices in the case. Chicken cutlets and salads galore. I recommend you go during the slow time for your first visit so you have time to look through all of the choices. read more

Wasn't bad just wasn't what I was expecting. I'm thinking it was the bread. Had a chance to stop at the Danbury shoppe and same thing. Just a so so sandwich. Jersey Mike's was our second choice and unfortunately for Nardelli's it's now going to be our first choice. Sad because we really enjoyed Nardelli's. I got a salad, a grinder, and a cannoli. I could not finish the awesome salad in one sitting. The grinder was huge. That became lunch the following day and was still leaps and bounds better than getting a subway sandwich. I just started working in the area, and I have been looking for a consistent lunch spot. With the large variety of tasty sandwiches and wraps they offer, there were easily a winner! I've tried many of their options, and they only seem to get better and better. It has been very difficult to find a favorite haha. Not only is the food amazing, but the staff here are very friendly and welcoming. That's hugeeee for me, considering they will eventually see my face 3 to 4 days a week. Definitely a really good sandwich for a small chain. Everything super fresh. Everything quality. Hidden gem. They put a touch of hot sauce in their Italian combo and it's something different. I like it. I also felt like the staff was really attentive and friendly. The gentleman working behind the counter, Jimmy, was running around the place making sure everyone was comfortable and that things were running smoothly. Nice to see Jimmy and the rest of the staff here taking pride in preparing food for people and being kind to other guests. I visit Danbury from time to time and there's no question I would come back. It's the baseline for a good sub, which isn't saying much. If you remember pre-global Subway here in CT, the portions are close and meats are decent. They have to cover the place in signs saying world famous and all sorts of travel channel junk, mainly because the locals know better and stick to places like Gaetano's Market (in Monroe), which truly does have world famous subs and looks at you funny if you order an 'italian combo.' I would not recommend anything behind the counter, merely the subs for their size and relatively decent pricing. I can't comment on the freshness of the goods, but I've been told things by people that I'd rather not pass on. All I can say for sure is things aren't ordered enough and they often have quite a bit of it behind glass, sitting there. read more
