This is one of those reviews where I think if they could get some help, they could quickly raise their rating. The food I had was quite tasty, but when the sushi chef is having to wait tables as well as make the food, it is too much to have high expectations. I decided to give this place (along the SR 267 corridor that crosses over I-70 as the first exit to Plainfield) a try. I pulled in for lunch in front of the restaurant and noticed a "help wanted" sign, which I've learned should immediately lower your expectations. Fortunately, most places seem to manage in the short run. When I entered the lobby, a sign directed me to the main dining area by the bar. I saw a couple of folks dining but they may have been employees since they ended up going back to the kitchen area and exiting a side door. Anyway, one of them let the waiter/chef know I was there. He was soft spoken and I wasn't sure if I heard much of what he said the entire meal. I grabbed a menu off a table since I had decided to sit at the sushi bar. He brought my water and I ordered a bowl of veggie Tom Yum soup to start. Later, I ordered a 2pc Nigiri Sake (salmon) and an Eel Avocado roll. The chef (before I knew he was the chef) began working on some "to go" order before bringing out my soup. When the soup, which was full of flavor, but not spicy hot like I've had elsewhere, arrived without a napkin for me. I mentioned it and I was given the chopsticks, napkin, and a dish for soy sauce. The soup was good and piping hot but the shape of the spoon made it hard to get the vegetables, especially the broccoli over the lip of the spoon. Before I finished the soup, the chef had finished the other order and brought out my entrees on a plate. Everything looked and tasted really good too! However, I had to ask for the soy sauce since he had forgotten to bring it as well. See the pattern? Again, I enjoyed the food and when I was finished, I was quickly able to check out. Note that I was the only dine in customer at the time. What must it be like if a large group or several tables of customers had arrived? I don't know that I can give this place any higher rating despite the good food until they get someone who can help fix the service issues so that the chef can simply cook. Review #3592

Very 2 1/2 stars. But closer to 2 than 3. The place was very dim lit. It was kinda dungeon or bar feel. It was certainly not a welcoming environment. You walk into and empty unmanned host podium. You have to figure out for yourself to walk into the back of the place. It seems to be built uninvitingly. It is backwards. You walk past the kitchen and bathrooms to the dining room. The atmosphere was so dreary that I didn't even feel like having an adult beverage with my meal. The food was adequite. Unimpressive. Not bad, not good really. It was just meh. The place was very slow. I can understand why. It was not a positive dining experience. I recommend avoiding the place unless you are in one of the immediately located hotels and have to have Japanese food.

One star is too high a rating. Dirty. Poor service. Food is inedible. Yelp wants me to say more, but there is nothing more to say.

Never coming here again. our first clue should have been the sticky floors. Terrible service, sushi was warm, pops were flat.

I had the filet hibachi and it was tender, tasty, and FILLING! even without the appetizer, easily 2 meals worth. Our waiter, Yancy, was absolutely amazing and the main reason I wanted to leave this review. (Hoping I spelled that correctly). He was full of character, amazing suggestions, and all around fun to be around. He made us some combinations of his favorite sauces to dip our sushi in and we ended up chatting about some of our fav kpop singers, like he was a friend we hadn't seen in years - chattin and catching up. What a pleasure he was and I hope management knows what a gift it is he is working for them!!

We never received our cocktails. The other party at our hibachi table also never received the sushi they had ordered. But we did get waters and soft drinks and watch the food being prepared. It was entertaining as hibachis tend to be. Soup and salad are included in the hibachi experience. The soup was not a plain miso soup, but it did have a delicious broth and onions floating in it and was really delicious. Also appreciated having a choice of salad dressing. Most folks simply serve it with ginger dressing, but here you have two additional choices, Ranch or Sesame. I opted for the sesame dressing and was pleasantly surprised. A new favorite. I had the shrimp & chicken combo with fried rice. The shrimp were nicely done, but the chicken was rather dry and the fried rice was quite bland. My friend had the salmon and really enjoyed her dish. All in all, I don't think it quite lived up to the price tag, but the staff was indeed trying.

The fish was so fresh, and you could genuinely taste the nori, which makes a huge difference. We branched out and tried the Kumamoto oysters too. Worth it. They're tinier than your typical oyster and came with a range of flavors from the seasonings and sauces. Honestly, we wish they'd been served more simply because we wanted to compare them to the ones we've had in Japan, and all the sauce made that tough. Still a fun order though. Skip the Seafood Pot, in our opinion. It tasted like Bird's Nest to us and just wasn't anything special compared to everything else. Bottom line: come for the sushi. It's the standout, and it's what'll bring us back. With ramen, hibachi, bubble tea, and a full bar also on the menu, there's plenty to explore on a return visit.

Unfortunately, my most recent experience was not as positive, and I found myself disappointed--though not due to any major issues. When I arrived at 11 a.m., right as the restaurant opened, there seemed to be adequate staff and they certainly weren't too busy to pay attention to the two tables dining at the time. I have no issue with staff taking a moment to chat, but I wish they had focused a little more on the guests who were dining. We ordered green tea, which is served in a metal teapot. The protocol is that if one person orders it, they receive the teapot, and if two people order it, they get one teapot to share. However, what surprised me was that despite finishing our tea, no one came by to offer us a refill. It would have been nice for someone to ask if we wanted more, especially given that we had finished the first pot. I also ordered the vegetable udon, hoping for a flavorful dish filled with fresh vegetables. Sadly, when it arrived, it lacked any vegetables and was quite bland. The overall taste was underwhelming, which was disappointing, as I had expected better. I pushed the plate to the side, indicating that I wouldn't be eating it. No one noticed. My plate was hardly touched, and not once did any staff member, including what I presumed to be the manager based on his demeanor, come over to inquire about my meal. He passed by my table at least three times without asking if everything was okay. I would have appreciated the opportunity to provide feedback. While I must say that everything else I tasted, aside from the udon, was delicious, the lack of attention to detail--such as not offering a refill for my tea and not inquiring about my dining experience--left me feeling neglected. It was truly disappointing to leave with an untouched plate and not a single word from the staff addressing my concerns even after we declined the offer container to take home the meal.
