Nate'n Al's - Hot Pastrami sandwich, coleslaw, pickles, Arnold Palmer - Delis Near Me - Beverly Hills, California

Usually, I am pretty chill about small things but I had a long strand of hair in my pie. The pastrami sandwich was great as well as the potato salad. Then, I ordered pie ala mode with coffee. After the third bite I pulled a long strand of hair out of my mouth. GROSS! I showed the hair to the waiter who did ask "how he could make it better". I guess I naively thought he would just do the right thing and adjust off the pie or coffee. In spite of this, I left a 20% tip because I appreciate the importance of making a living wage. Nonetheless, the restaurant should take responsibility when the protocols aren't met for safe food handling. I would encourage the staff and owners to not put the customer in the position of making a decision when clearly they should know the right thing to do. Obviously, I left more than half the pie uneaten. read more

My toast was so burnt & rock hard. The food wasn't well. I didn't enjoy this place :(

Definitely love Nate'n Al's. The food is great, the customer service is great, the ambiance is great, and the feel overall is wonderful. By feel I mean the history of the cafe/deli/restaurant. You definitely feel like you're eating somewhere that has been around forever that values rich history, delicious warm food, and excellent customer service. It's nice to sit inside as it feels like a large living room of someone's home, and it's nice to sit outside to have the fresh air and excellent people watching as Beverly Hills bring folks from all around the world. Highly recommend. read more

I'd be willing to try this place again. But my experience for lunch was exceedingly... ordinary. The setting is adequate. Outdoor patio. Attentive servers. Good pickles. The pastrami sandwich I ordered was pricey. But pastrami sandwiches are often $20+ these days. It would have to be exceptional to be worth it. The sandwich was.... Good. Good ingredients, obviously fresh, well presented and even impressive with the mound of pastrami more than an inch thick. But the flavor was mild, not the exciting spicy I look for in a pastrami. Same with the cole slaw. Fine. Just low on flavor. Maybe I'll try a club sandwich next time. Or breakfast. The brisket sandwich sounded good. The people watching was fun. read more

Everyone deserves a second chance. So they say. Went back 2 weeks ago with a friend. Reluctantly but never the less. I ordered a Pastrami sandwich which came with some Cole Slaw on the side. That Pastrami as they call it to begin with was 100% processed meat and was 80% fat !!!!! The way it not only looked told you the meat was processed but eating it was the convincer. Absolutely unbelievable !!!!!! My friend also couldn't believe this sandwich from hell !!! People who eat in this crap house over and over must not have taste buds. This place is a "Must Miss" read more

The corned beef and pastrami were dry, and the brisket was shredded beef that I could find in my employee cafeteria. Brisket should be sliced and tender, and corned beef should be brined and juicy, especially if you're charging $22 for a sandwich with 6 ounces of beef. read more

I'm confused on what the hype is because the food was pretty gross. I don't even remember what sandwich we ordered but It was nasty. The matzo ball soup was disappointing. I thought it would be mind blowing but we spit it out..... I ordered pancakes as a safe order which they were decent. I'm just really really confused. Service was quick and friendly so that's a plus! Nate 'N Al hasn't changed much over the years, which is part of its charm. The large dining room is filled with comfortable booths, and the decor looks like it hasn't changed much in the last 50 years. The expansive menu is 10 pages, ranging from breakfast to lunch to dinner entrees - recently updated to include breakfast burritos and gluten-free bread (though they still don't have avocado toast, kale or quinoa). We split one of the Lox Fish Platters ($29.95). The platter came with 2 bagels, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers and olives. I was horrified to see that the one of the bagels looked like it had been squished, with a couple of large indentations where a thumb and another finger must have been. Lox is ungodly expensive (as are delis, in general) so the portion of salmon was decent for the price. I think I must be spoiled from having eaten some fantastic lox in my life - the lox here was fine. It lacked that luxuriousness of the really good stuff, though it was significantly better than the prepackaged stuff. The cucumbers and olives seemed more like a garnish, with only a couple of thing cucumber slices and three Greek olives. Nate 'N Al was known as a celebrity haunt back in the day (which might explain why the guy at the table next to us kept turning around to see what I was taking pictures of). These days not so much, but it's a good place to wax nostalgic, right down to the chipped, faded coffee mug from their 70th anniversary. The prices will have you longing for the good ol' days too. Free 2 hour parking available at the BH parking garage at 345 N. Beverly. read more

Iconic and traditional old school delicatessen. This place is as OG as they come. Matzoh Ball soup, brisket on a Kaiser Roll au jus and all the smoked white fish you want. It may be old school but prices are definitely current. Don't come for the value, food is good but the prices are high enough that you'd think you were at a casual fine dining restaurant. Come for the atmosphere, nostalgia and the good food. Parking and prices are part of being in the heart of Beverly Hills. You get exactly what you pay for here. Enjoy! read more

The service is nice but this ranks as one of the worst sandwiches I have ever eaten. Whitefish sandwich and the filling was a gummy, pasty glob shoved between two slim pieces of rye bread. The taste was generic, no smoky flavor, and no flavor I could hardly even discern. It felt like it was made a good while ago. The potato salad was okay but thats not why you go to a deli. Disappointed because there are fewer and fewer delis around, and the ones still left seem to be struggling to get things right. read more

I've dined her many times over the years. This time I ordered a pastrami on rye with mustard with a side of potato salad. I paid and the meal was given to me in a bag. The staff was not following covid protocols!! I left and opened the bag a short time later. The sandwich had a very small portion of pastrami and no mustard inside. The lack of mustard ruined the tiny sandwich. The potato salad I ordered was m, instead, coleslaw. There were no napkins or plastic utensils so I ended up eating the coleslaw with my fingers and then hunting for a place to wash my hands. Not a good experience!! read more

I used to love Nate 'n Al's but now the food is mediocre, the prices hugely overcharged and the errors are extremely frustrating. I ordered a Cobb salad which was supposed to have turkey, bacon, gorgonzola cheese but instead a Chopped salad was delivered with hard brocolli, cauliflower and radiches, none of which I like or expected. SO disappointing. I also ordered tuna fish sandwhich which are now almost 24$. They were half packed instead of mile high and they have now changed the recipe to add pickles which have changed the flavor to a very distinct after taste. it used to be beautifgul Albacore tuna with mayoa dn tasted liek classic deli tuna which made the pricw worth it. Now it tastes like a cheap diner. We also ordered chopped chicken liver, a favorite, which always came with light rye seeded bread. They chicken liver was runny with liquid in ita dn they forgot to deliver the bread with it, so nothing to eat it with other than a spoon. I called and they sent some bread, turned out it came with one side frsha dn the other side toasted and laoded with butter. Inedible! What happened to Nate 'n Al's??! Don't go. read more

In business since 1945 Nate 'n Al's is a Beverly Hills institution that has developed a loyal following over the years. Their Matzo Ball Soup and Corned Beef Reuben Sandwich have been ranked #1 in Los Angeles. I've never dined inside the restaurant, but my boss ordered take out for lunch the other day. I requested the Al's chopped salad. It came with lettuce, tomato, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, & cucumber. The salad was finely chopped. I loved the crunchiness and the texture. I ordered ranch dressing on the side and added just enough so that it wasn't soggy but had a good flavor. The packaging was nicely done. I'd definitely like to check out the restaurant and try other items on the menu. read more

Over a half century ago, I attended Los Angeles City College, with a cool, young man, with a beard, from The Pomeranz Family. When he invited me to stop by to visit him in the deli, he was hard at work, slicing meat, greeting customers, selling Black and White and other traditional Jewish pastries (Bostonian's called them Half and Halves), and packing Kosher delicacies to-go. The funniest thing is that this Treasure on Beverly Drive, in the exclusive downtown Beverly Hills, has only changed cosmetically...friendly, caring service from ALL employees, in an atmosphere where you could be sitting next to a celebrity, and not bugging them. We saw Kim Kardashian and Company, about 20 years ago, everyone was respectful of her right to enjoy the delicacies, without asking her to take selfies (it was hardly a thing back then)...THE WAY it SHOULD Be! Thank God, this incredible business survived The Covid Nightmare, relatively unscathed, and is up and running like clockwork! The wonderful hostess, by the name of Nomazwi, and our caring waitress helped to make our Deli Rendezvous a priceless experience! It's all come full circle for those of us who hung out there, back in the day! If you want to order from the deli, while you are dining there, the server with gladly take care of it, while you dine...no need to wait in line!!! read more

Nice comfort food, deli style. Not kosher but still good! Good matzah ball soup and matzah brei if you're up for that!

I am a huge fan of pastrami sandwiches. My all time favorite is from Katz's Deli in NYC, and I was very anxious to try Nate'n Al's since I heard great things about this place. I got the New Yorker with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was delicious! A good amount of meat on the sandwich and the bread was toasted perfectly. I really enjoyed eating out on their patio and I will definitely be returning next time I'm in the area. The cashiers could be a little friendlier however. He kept accusing us of standing too close even though there was no room for us to stand because of the party right behind us. read more

Nate'n Al's - New Yorker - Delis Near Me - Beverly Hills, California

Nate n Als is hands down, my favorite eatery for breakfast in Los Angeles. It's great for lunch too, but there's something about that early morning buzz when the regular locals drop by and eat and shmooze and enjoy delicious food. Depending on the time you go, you can either wait a while, or get a table right away. Weekends are definitely busier, but the wait is never too long that you begin to reconsider eating elsewhere. More often than not, I choose the cheese blintzes and a hash brown on the side. Their hash browns are simply THE BEST I've eaten anywhere ever. Cooked to perfection and always beautifully golden brown and crisp. You can pick anything off their extensive menu: you don't need to worry about ordering chicken soup for breakfast. If you want it, they'll bring it out. Everything I've ever eaten here is delicious, there's hardly one thing I can recommend over another. I do think there's times where the service can be a bit slow; even getting the bill can take some time. I also think the food is about a dollar or two more expensive than I'd like to pay considering what you get, but overall, it's usually worth it when you're hungry and then get your food and it's everything you imagined a good old fashioned kosher style deli would make. The atmosphere is good in here, and there's even a few celebrity sightings if you're lucky enough (over the years, I've seen quite a few in here). The interior is a bit dated, but it adds to the old school charm. I highly recommend Nate n Als!!! (PS. A few doors down there's a parking garage with two hours free parking. Especially in the morning it's easy to find a parking space without hassle.) read more

It's not what it used to be when the original owners owned it! The cook is different and it's not the same! They nickel and dime you to death on sandwiches. No more lettuce and tomato on it unless you pay for it! Being tourist and walking around we got a little hungry. My husband is a huge fan of deli sandwiches. Wowed by this place. It was delicious fresh and the service was great. So sad. I grew up in Beverly Hills and I would go twice a week with my parents as a child. My parents had a charge their back when Al and his Son was there. Very few people had house charge there. Every event we had turkey, corn beef, roast beef, coleslaw, potato salad, deli platters from Nate 'n Al's. Today I went and I picked up a quarter pound of turkey a quarter pound of corn beef had a quarter pound of roast beef. This is not the same at all. The turkey was horrible, in fact, Boars head tastes same. NOTHING like the fresh roast turkey i grew up with there. The roast beef was better. It was rare as I requested but it's still had that salty prepackaged taste. I saved the corn beef, but it does not look anything like what are used to get there 70's 80's 90's 2000's . Way overpriced for what it is today by the lb, i was there at 12:20 pm , only 3 tables occupied. I grew up 10 min from there . I walked in, and I placed a deli counter meat order with the host. It's the same name, but by no means, is that the same quality of food that I grew up with or the same recipes for meats. I spent $38 for 3/4 lb of meat. I'm glad I tried the new version, but I won't be going back read more

I really hate to give a classic old school L.A. Deli a bad review but I gave them a chance. Been eating here on and off for probably 30 years. Food has been typically reliable with a few standout items. Not the best deli in L.A. but now... Oy Vey! In particular we love their potato latkes/pancakes. And the stuffed cabbage is very good too. Pastrami is decent but there are better places for sure. But for this meal we went for stuffed cabbage dinners and potato latkes. Also got a 1/4 pound of Nova lox for sunday bagel brunch in the morning. The potato latkes tonight were atrocious! Nicely crisped on the outside but weird shape ( smaller than normal) and NO flavor . I mean "0". Normally they have a nice onion flavor, touch of pepper and salt. Normally they are made from fresh shredded potatoes. Thats how you should make them and how they have always been in the past. These were like mashed or scalloped potatoes with no seasoning. They were dry to the point of chocking on them and yuck. Couldn't eat them. The cabbage rolls were good but also not the norm. Underseasoned again. Sauce was solid and as it should be but luckily I asked for extra sauce on the side as they barely put any in the container with the cabbage rolls. Cmon guys, its all about the sauce... The Lox was also a problem. This was pre sliced/portioned in 1/4 pound amounts. And it seems they did not keep it wrapped well. So about 20% of the edges of the lox were dried out and off color. This is so NOT cool. I can hear my jewish mom scolding them from 3 miles away! Lox is super expensive and delicate. Spoils super fast. So I had to cut off all the dried out bad parts and got less than I paid for. The part that was kept wrapped was excellent though. So the same night I got the meal ( a week ago) I nicely emailed the restaurant twice to let them know I was unhappy with details and a photo. It's been a week with no response. Really. So now they get the 1 star yelp review. Bad food, bad customer service. Really a shame. Whoever is running this place is not paying attention so say bye bye to customers when you do that. I'll drive a bit further (and I suggest you do to) to go to Canters which is the top classic deli in LA for sure and has a great bakery to boot. Nate N Als is way past it's prime. read more

My friends and I were on a search for a Jewish Deli for lunch, but we were slightly disappointed after our experiences with Agoura's Famous Deli, Brent's Deli, and others. For a place on Beverly Drive, I will definitely say the food is reasonably priced. No one in out party seemed to have any complaints about our main entrees, but we did not care for the matzo balls in the matzo ball soup (small and somewhat dense) or the little pickle chips on the pickle plate. What really concerned me was the service because our server seemed like he did not want to be there (valid, but not appropriate for the Jewish deli "vibe"). We were expecting this restaurant to be extraordinary and perhaps expensive given its location, but we were met with the opposite. I'm not sure with the other selections in the area, so if this is the only feasible place for a bowl of hot matzo ball soup I don't want to be too harsh (as there are no places up where I live in the bay area). That being said, you may need to lower your expectations if you already have a favorite Jewish deli. read more
