Popped into Factor's for Sunday breakfast, and realized I'd been away too long. Why? Well, it's always been a welcoming, well-managed place with good service and even better food -- and my living a little bit of a ways away shouldn't have kept me from enjoying as much as we did. At about 10:45am, it was busy but not crazy crowded, so we were seated immediately by a happy, friendly teen who may have been a family member or just someone they've taken under their wing. Either way, the youthful greeting helps establish that family feeling that's always relaxing. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese and sliced sturgeon, which is a serious treat here in Los Angeles, where hardly any place carries sturgeon. The portion was ample, the fish was fresh, moist and tasty, and it made for a very satisfying (and filling) breakfast. It should also be stated that this hard-to-find dish is always somewhat pricey, but at $25, Factor's is practically a bargain, and a full $9 CHEAPER than Art's in Studio City. My wife opted for eggs with baked salmon on the side -- again, fresh and generous, and very tasty. And again, $10 cheaper than at Art's. I mention the prices simply because eating a good deli breakfast has become more of a luxury these days, and finding a place that delivers top-notch food and service with less of a slam to the wallet makes a difference. If you haven't been to Factor's, or haven't been in a while, it's time to discover (or rediscover) a great deli serving great food. Ordered a pastrami sandwich. Assuming it would be a proper pastrami sandwich. Mayo. Mustard. Kraut. Toasted. It was NONE of those things. Just a mound of pastrami on untoasted rye. Nothing else. $26. Will not be going back. read more

Not worth the price. Went to Factor Deli for a hot brisket sandwich. It was good. Really good. Not dry, which is the problem a lot of place run into with their brisket. That said, it was not the brisket equivalent of the pastrami sandwich at Langer's. I also got fries, and they were steak fries, which I prefer. And they were good steak fries. Crisp and potato-y. All of which I washed down with an iced latte. Which was flavorful and not too milky. And then the bill came. With tip? Just shy of $50. Yeah. Which wouldn't have been an issue except the portions were small. While the sandwich and fries were filling, at other places they would've been big enough that I could've taken half of the sandwich and half the fries homes, and had them for dinner. As for the place itself, it's nice and clean, and there were a lot of seats. The staff were also friendly, and my meal arrived in a timely manner. Parking, however, is another issue. I lucked out by finding a metered spot, but there weren't a lot of them. The place does have valet parking...but it's $13. Yeah. Not sure if I'll ever go back, but it won't be for a while. At which point it'll probably cost even more. Ugh. read more

The deli wars in LA are infamous - which one is the best??? To be determined with so many good ones. However, my favorite deli is Factor's on Pico. The 161st running of the Preakness Stakes so a perfect morning to do some handicapping at breakfast. Breakfast today - the World Famous hand-cut Pastrami Sandwich. Add deli mustard, Swiss on fresh Rye Bread. Yea you can order lunch during breakfast hours! Potato salad and pickles to die for! Enjoy! Also odd place for sports memorabilia but they have some amazing items here on display. read more

When ordering, opt for the hand-cut pastrami - it's the way to go, especially if you like it thick! I ordered the Pastrami Reuben, and it was served on nicely toasted rye bread with a satisfying chew. The sauerkraut was decent but nothing special, and the thick-cut pastrami came with thousand island dressing on the side. They offer an upgrade to handmade chips for $2 more, which I took. The homemade chips were a bit bland and could use some salt, but they would have been great if properly seasoned. I really enjoyed the hand-cut pastrami, though it was a bit salty. I wasn't a fan of their thousand island dressing; it was too tangy for me. Factor's is definitely worth a visit on the Westside. You'll see lots of regulars who have preferred seats and don't even need a menu because they know what they want. I overheard one ordering a burger; I might have to try that next time. The service is attentive and courteous. There's lots of sports memorabilia and celebrity photos on the walls. There are TVs playing sports, and they have very comfortable black booths. I believe Factor's deserves a rating between 3.5 and 4 stars. The value and quality, especially for a Westside location, set it apart from other Jewish delis in the area. This is a 8/26 update. Factors is great again. We get mish mosh or matzo all soup at least once a week. It's very good. I've had their brisket dinner, and it was the best I've had in ages. The beef is fork tender. Portion is good. Recently we have the wings appetizer and it ranks up there with any of the good wings ii L.A. The Reuben's are my favorite as is Debbie's chopped salad. We live nearby and are lucky. Factors is a gem. Delis are closing so happy to have this slice of LAHistory nearby. read more

Okay, I know this place is famous. Whatever, it could still be better. The prices are not commensurate with what you get. $24 for a tuna sandwich which was the "bigger of two sizes" but really just the size of a regular darn sandwich anywhere. Ridiculous. Service was okay until the server decided we didn't need anything else. Mind you, we didn't make that decision for ourselves. My friend is from New York and really wanted to try an everything bagel. He also wasn't all that impressed. So, save your money, go elsewhere. I mean, if you feel you need to come here once, bring money for the valet because there is no where to park and you can say you came. Other than that, meh. Five stars? Factors deserves at least double that amount. I don't live in Los Angeles, but in recent visits, I've found this perfect deli. In fact, on this recent trip, I went there twice. The first time I had the requisite corned beef. To end my trip today, I ordered a chocolate phosphate to go along with a bowl of mushroom barley. Heaven!! Was at UCLA for an all day event and was starting to feel a little under the weather. So you know what that means... matzo ball soup to the rescue! Ordered through Postmates, which delivery took a bit to get to me. Didn't mind the wait though. Let me just say, this soup was worth the wait. It was perfect and just what I needed to power me through the day. The broth was amazing and not greasy. The noodles reminded me of the Lipton noodle soup, which were terrific! Chicken was cooked perfectly and the carrots were soft and easy to cut into. I really enjoyed the matzo ball. Now what took this soup over the top was the bagel chips! OMGeeee... a variety of various bagels was really a delightful surprise. So how good is the matzo ball soup? Definitely in my top two favorite places. Highly recommend it! I am so happy Postmates recommend this spot for me to try! I definitely will be back and can't wait to try more menu items. For now, I will be dreaming of those delicious bagel chips. Haven't been for a while and my gorgeous companion was craving a Cobb salad so we ordered for delivery. I had my usual... The sky, high corned beef. They aren't affiliated with any of the delivery apps so they do their own and it took much longer than I would've expected. The sandwich was soggy, the corned beef just didn't taste quite right, and the coleslaw didn't taste the way that I remembered. The fries were overdone and cold. The Cobb salad was OK though! All of this for $68. I love delis and I know they are endangered, but you can't operate this way. I was really disappointed. So, for now it's Langers and Brent's. read more

The main Factor that cause me to dine here tonight was that I was not feeling well and needed some chicken soup ASAP! Ordered the chicken soup pot ($20) and it came with shredded chicken, rice, noodles, matzoh ball, and something else I can't spell. It was very good, not outstanding--but did the trick. Also had the Chinese Chicken Salad--excellent. I have had that before. Sour pickles also very good. Got some Tuna Fish to go for lunch the next day. They are known for tuna which I have had before. Next time you are sick and need some chicken soup--this is the place you should Factor in your decision. Parking is every expensive Valet or meters on the street (free after 6 PM). I Factored in the cost of parking vs using that money for food and walked a block. Chatting with one of the guys that worked here--he said some of the people that cook here have been working here between 35 and 40 years! That's incredible! They make most of their own pasties too if you can handle the sugar? It's expensive to dine here but you will probably walk away with a good meal. Service is friendly and attentive. read more

Oh my gosh, i use to love coming here. But not after this last time. The pastrami was super fatty, not steamed and it was over cooked. Service was iffy. We sent the appetizer back because it was cold, chicken tenders and said we didnt want it. But it was forwarded back to us while we had our sandwiches, still cold, even though we didnt want it, and was charged for it. Food has gone downhill, but the bakery is still oh so good. As a native Nu Yawker, I've enjoyed the best pastrami in NYC at Katz's. So now that becomes the standard for pastrami to which all other pastrami offerings get measured. Factor's was a good try but came up short. Most noticeable was quantity.Very disappointed at Kosher style deli prices. As far as taste it was passable but not fantastic. Again, take my judging with a grain of salt. Had I never had Katz's I might have given a better review. My dinner partner had the extra lean corned beef and indicated it was pretty good. We finished off my sharing a just ok black and white cookie. Service I felt was very attentive and exceptional. The waitress gave us plenty of time to decide what we wanted without any pressure The restaurant did reflect an old time deli with a very nice display case of appetizing including smoked fishes from Acme and Hebrew National cold cuts and hotdogs. A nice touch was all the famous framed sport jerseys from some of the most renowned players in their respective sports. As far as volume, we were able to hold a conversation without difficulty. I am so pissed off so here we go. Surgical procedure this am so craving some good old chicken noodle soup. Order a quart and pay for extra chicken. Second time attempting the 'extra chick n' as they failed last time and now they've failed even worse this time. Last time clearly no extra chicken but at least some noodles etc. But today, give me a break! Look at this photo of an $18 quart of chicken noodle soup w extra chicken and tell me if you can spot the noodles OR the extra chicken??? I've been going to this restaurant for over 40 years. It still tastes as delicious as when I first started going. The chicken rice soup is a must, and it pairs greatly with a half chopped liver sandwich. Make sure to ask for a side of straight horseradish, not the horseradish cream, to go with it. Extremely friendly counter service. Their Yelp menu is outdated with regard to prices. Their soups went up from $10-$12 for a pint and their pastrami sandwich went up from $17-$24. I stopped in for a few favorites since I was visiting a doctor across the street. I did take-out service. My advice if you're having a pastrami sandwich is to sit down and eat it hot Off the press. Only good thing about the meal was the onion rings. The rest was very bland. Lox and bagel was marginal and had little bits of lox where the old Juniors or another deli I can't remember near Cedar's made a very memorable, generous sandwich. Today we set out for an epic Pastrami taste off. We started at Factor Famous Deli in S. Beverly Hills. First off it's a nice location, great decor of sports & movie memorabilia adorned the walls throughout. It was late afternoon on Saturday and it was rather empty. We were seated right away and greeted warmly by the server and the table bus. The menu had something for everyone. However, we narrowed in on the Hot Thick Sliced Pastrami. It was delicious! Tangy peppery and juicy. The rye bread and Russian dressing made a perfect union. My Brisket dip was excellent as well and the onion rings. They were the perfect blend of crispy and light. As we exited we scored from bakery. We took home a variety of cookies which were fantastic. Next stop Langer's in DTLA! Then Johnny's in West Adams. read more

I came in with a dream and knew what I wanted: Tuna melt well done with grilled onions, mozzarella, and on sourdough! I expected and they surpassed! My client and I were driving around Beverly Hills and we got so unlucky with parking. We were not able to find one. So my client decided to go to this Delicatessen. There is only valet parking which costs $10 and my client declined. We circled the block twice and we were able to find a parking on the street, which is just a short walk to the Deli. Upon entering, I can tell that the place is busy - lunch hour. Most of the tables are occupied but some customers are leaving too. So we were able to sit down without a wait. Our server came right away, gave out menus then gave us a few minutes to decide. My client decided to split a Cobb Salad with blue cheese dressing on the side. It comes with a complimentary bagel or rye bread. The portion is generous. It can be shared between 2 -3 people. The lettuce is fresh, crunchy with every bite. The bacon bits balanced out the flavor. I will definitely be back and will try their sandwiches. Better come before or after the lunch hour to have a relaxed atmosphere. Less traffic and more time to enjoy your meal.
