Arrived at the place to find an employee out front, emptying buckets of gray, sudsy water into the mud. Unfortunately nothing else in the remainder of my visit really did anything to disconfirm that first impression. The facilities are bizarrely dilapidated for a customer facing business. I worked in restaurants for years. Running any kind of restaurant is a constant war against entropy: cleaning, fixing, maintaining, replacing, cleaning, training, staying up to code, cleaning, upholding standards, maintaining quality, keeping bad apples from changing the culture, cleaning. Did I mention all the cleaning? It never ends. Somebody always has to be running the place. Really running it. I wonder who, if anybody, is running this place? They won't spring for some plaster and a bucket of paint for the walls. They won't get the floors resealed. They won't make sure the bathrooms are clean. Is something going on with the plumbing to cause the bucket situation? But, most importantly, if they're letting all that slide? Out in the open? Where you can see? What's the rest of it like? HANDS DOWN THE BEST BREAKFAST BURRITO IN OC!! When I first came here I was not expecting the burritos to be so big and flavorful. I got the 2 egg and 2 meats (bacon and sausage) which were so good!! The hash brown is super crispy and I never had a breakfast burrito with that type of texture and consistency. Ask for a side of salsa because it adds to the flavor, but just a heads up they charge extra for it. I also tried the onion rings, which were so yummy and crispy also! I paid for a side of ranch with it, but I would say skip out on the ranch next time because it was okay. Parking is a bit of a hassle here especially at peak breakfast hours! They're known for their burritos, which are more on the expensive end, but everything just tastes like something you can get for half the price at Dennys. Not sure why it's taken so long to try this place but my coworker was in the mood for a breakfast burrito and found this spot which is close to my home and on the way to our job in Irvine. She ordered over the phone and I picked it up on my way in to the office. We knew the burritos are huge so we decided to split one. We went with the chorizo and egg burrito. She also ordered 3 salsas which I was a bit surprised they don't give you any salsa and you have to pay for them. Upon arriving at work we cut the burrito in half. Right away I noticed neither one of us said much. This can be a good sign LOL...but I think I knew she felt the same way I did once we started talking. We both had the same feelings. We were bummed to notice the LACK of egg in the burrito and that it was mainly all very crispy "hash browns" like overly crispy...and lots and lots of oil dripping out from the chorizo. My half of the burrito was drenched and made a pool of oil on my plate and soaked through the tortilla. I was a bit grossed out. The salsa was pretty good but still not worth paying for. Overall, we were not impressed. We were actually pretty disappointed because we had high expectations of this restaurant. Maybe a different type of burrito might change my opinion at a later date. Top tier breakfast burrito - over easy egg, crispy hash browns, massive size, lots of different meat options, good salsa. It's pretty much perfect. If anything, it might be too big. There are lots of meat options: bacon, sausage, ham, pastrami, chicken, steak... I got sausage & bacon. I had a bite of the pastrami & I think i'd do that in the future. Very delicious. I remember a long time ago I tried the Nate's favorite (spicy) and didn't love it. I prefer just the classic breakfast burrito personally. Love Nate's. It's often crowded but they still crank out the food pretty quickly. Their hours are rough sometimes because I think they close relatively early. Burritos here are gigantic! This was my second time at Nate's. First time was a better experience. I happened to be on my way to the 405N entry via Sunflower and came across this place. Figured I would stop for lunch since my son was hungry and I needed a drink. I ordered the Nate's Favorite burrito. Menu indicated it was spicy, so I ordered sans Serrano peppers. My son ordered the three meat burrito. We got two drinks. Total cost: $46.36, which included tip. CASHLESS. Cool. Not even mad about that, but I don't like the whole tipping system attached to it. Options were No Tip or tipping starting at 18%. Puts the customer in an awkward position to put 'no tip' but what am I tipping for? Taking my order, which I walked to the counter to put in? No one delivered my burrito, served it to me at my table, or provided plastic ware. I served myself my drink and bagged my own leftover. NATE'S FAVORITE. I took a couple of bites by bringing my face to the table. The burrito was huge. I figured I could justify the expense by getting a totally loaded burrito. I was so excited when I opened my burrito until I had my first bite. Sadly, most of the burrito was potato hash. Over half of the burrito was potato. This experience wasn't great for me. Likely will not come back. I understand with the rising cost of living and inflation, prices go up. What did it for me were the two burritos loaded with hash and cashless/tipping system. First time here, ordered a bacon breakfast burrito. Here's what I got. One half of the burrito was hot from the egg, the other half of the burrito was cold, and the bacon was in between cold and frozen. The cheese was also on this side, so I had unmelted strings of cheese. Similar to other reviews, I was expecting string potatoes, and I got oily fried panko chips. Cherry on top: the burrito wasn't seasoned at all. So we not only have a variety of textures, and temperatures for what's supposed to be a straightforward *hot* burrito, the salt and seasoning was nowhere to be found. Not a hash brown burrito. lol The meat was just a small, minor character in this burrito. As for the eggs, they were also overshadowed by the greasy hash browns. If you love hash browns, this burrito will hit the spot. As for myself, I was hoping for more meat and eggs, and less hash browns. Now the really bad part was the fact they charge you $1.00 for a small cup of salsa. In my opinion, salsa should come standard with burritos. And restaurants want to charge for salsa, they should only charge a minimal fee if a customer wants extra.... But only if the salsa is exquisite. Unfortunately, this salsa was nothing to write home about. It was edible, but does not justify a $1.00 price tag. And one little oddity to point out. It does not affect my rating in any way, but I thought it was odd. They claim they are a cashless establishment. Yet at the same time, they have tip jars asking for cash tips. I just thought that was a bit odd, that's all. If I'm in the area again, I might stop by and try something else on the menu. We ordered the two egg/two meat combo with bacon and sausage, and the Nate's Favorite Burrito with no beans or serranos. Both were huge portions and definitely worth the price ($12.99 each). Man, so long to this place I used to enjoy.. today I was pleasantly surprised to see the line so short compared to how it used to be. I just kept thinking to myself I must've gotten lucky with timing, especially when it was a Saturday. I got the no meat burrito I've gotten the last few times, came home, and cut my burrito in half to dive in. I immediately noticed that the egg was not cooked and was literally still in its purest raw form, so much to the point that it looked like saliva. Yes, I'm totally OK with eggs done over easy. Was this that? No. It was salmonella. Immediately was off put so I cut the half into a quarter to see if the issue was widespread and sure enough, the egg wasn't cooked. It easily weighs two pounds. Really, the best part of the burrito are the crispy hash browns inside of it. It gives it great texture. Is this a hall of fame burrito? It is pretty darn good and well worth a visit. It's also not exactly a secret. The restaurant was swamped on a Sunday morning. We probably waited 10-15 minutes for our food but I didn't mind.
