My wife and I visited for our 35th anniversary while we were visiting the island it was really a disappointment for such a special evening. #1 problem is their employees are way over worked. Waiters were having to bus tables and try to help their customers. # 2 steaks had no seasoning on them whatsoever and were fairly tough. Stuffed shrimp was good fish was good. #3 lack of organization led to a lot of people being seated out of turn and upsetting some that had waited for over an hour. Will not go back. Summarized: Charged an ILLEGAL "non-cash fee", had horrible service, and ridiculous wait times - given a 30 minute wait for a table, but took almost 1.5 hours to be seated - took an HOUR for food to start coming out after ordering, final dish was not served until 20 minutes later If I could, I would give Nate's zero stars after the experience my group just had there. My family has been going to Nate's for years, and I have seen it slowly devolve. The last time I was in town, I brought my friends to Nate's and we had to wait about 2 hours for a table when told it would be 45 minutes maximum and the food took forever to come out, even though the restaurant was pretty much cleared out by the time they sat us. This visit managed to make the previous one look like a dream. We called ahead to ask if we could reserve a table and the person was rude in the way they told me no. So we showed up at 5:30 hoping to not have too long of a wait for a 7 person party, and were told it would be 30 minutes. After 50 minutes passed I went back in to ask how much longer they thought it would be and they said 30-40 MORE minutes. We were STARVING so we waited. We were sat about 30 minutes later. Once we saw the menus we noticed that many options had been removed and the prices were jacked up from the menu shown on the restaurant's website. For example, the custom pasta with added chicken was $17.99 on the Nate's website's menu, but the CURRENT menu was charging $24 for the same thing. Then the waitress came to the table and did not even introduce herself, she immediately said "food will have a 30 minute wait". So we ordered immediately. 2 appetizers (both mozzarella sticks) were ordered and they came out 10-15 minutes apart from each other. It took me like 7 minutes to get ketchup, and I had to ask TWO servers that WEREN'T even our servers to get the ketchup because no one would bring it out to me my mozzarella sticks were cold by the time I got the ketchup I wanted. We set a timer to see how long all the food took to come, it was over an HOUR for the food to START coming out. The final plate didn't hit the table until 20 minutes after the first one did. Almost every single part of what I ordered for dinner came out wrong. I ordered chicken fried steak with steak fries and a side salad with raspberry dressing. My chicken fried steak came out and was actually just the largest piece of fried chicken I have ever encountered, I got 2 gravies when I only asked for 1, my side salad didn't come with my food and I had to remind her to get it after she had finished serving the entire table AND replaced my messed up entree because she still hadn't brought it, and even then the salad came with ranch instead of the raspberry dressing, so I had to wait AGAIN for the right dressing. Several other people's food was completely or at least partially wrong as well. We ate and the waitress was then no where to be seen for a good 15 minutes as we desperately tried to get her over there because we wanted our checks so we could leave. She finally brings them and they were outrageous. The website had mentioned an 18% automatic gratuity for parties of 7 or more, so we expected that. The checks included a 20% auto gratuity AND an ILLEGAL "non-cash fee" which was placed without them even asking how we would be paying. We googled this non cash fee and immediately saw that this type of fee is illegal in the state of Texas, and in many other states. One person's check was $50 for literally just a fish dish and a sweet tea. In all, we were there for about 3 hours from the time we got on the waitlist to the time we finally could leave. We were incredibly angry and dissatisfied with the expensive and extremely negative experience we had at Nate's tonight. We have no intention of ever returning to the restaurant and I will be telling my family about this to warn them to stop bringing their business to a place that treats their customers like this. It truly takes a HORRIBLE experience to make a table with three fellow restaurant servers not WANT to leave any tip at all. read more

I recently came here with my family and waited 20 mins just for our server crystal to come and serve us. She caught an attitude when I ask her what sodas they have.... After waiting 1 hour and 40 mins for OUR FOOD, that crystal never put it I asked for a new server and we got Dion. Words will never be able to describe how much I LOVE HER! She was so kind and helpful and took over our table and made sure we were okay and got our food in as quickly as possible. She was the best server out of all the 3 people working. This place is a mess. Crystal should be fired for her HORRIBLE customer service I'm surprised she even got the job in the first place. If you guys have crystal as a server RUN! Ask for Dion she will make sure you guys are taken care of. read more

Arrived just before 6:30pm. Maybe 10-12 people inside on a Tuesday night. Waited 25 minutes before even getting any drinks, then waited another 40 minutes on top of that for a Caesar salad. Salad comes out with 0 dressing. Turns out the kitchen ran out "right before my order came in". So, I had waited over an hour for a Caesar salad with now ranch dressing and cold chicken. The restaurant we were supposed to eat at was closed so my family ended up at Nates. As soon as we walked in, my wife commented that it smelled 'funny' - but we were hungry and decided to give it a shot - HUGE mistake. We ordered a couple of appetizers and decided to split a fried seafood platter. I thought the crab cake app was mediocre but my wife thought it was bad and didn't eat it. Our main course is where things really got terrible. I tried the fried soft shell crab first. It was clearly overcooked and tasted gross. Fried shrimp was next -and even worse. I've never had fried shrimp this bad. Tough and fishy tasting. Stuffed shrimp was the same, with a slightly rotten taste. Fried fish was bad, but seemed ok after eating the horrible shrimp. I ended up only eating one bite of each thing on the plate except the hush puppies. I'm 52 years old and this was the 2nd worst meal I've ever had in my entire life - and it cost a fortune. read more

Some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced! My husband very clearly ordered a bottle of Dos Equis dressed. The waitress came back after 15 minutes with a glass of beer dressed. My husband told her that wasn't what he ordered. She took it back and came back with it again and said, the bartender won't fix this you have to drink it. He stated he wasn't going to drink it because that wasn't what it ordered. She reluctantly took it back. Fifteen minutes later she brought him what he ordered. If I could give a place negative stars, it would be Nate's. This place is an absolute joke and the fact that they're still in business, I don't understand. It took 40 minutes for our waitress to acknowledge us after seating at our table. It took another 40 minutes to get 3 waters and two Margaritas (which were abhorrent, by the way), it then took another 40 minutes for our food to come out. We didn't even have silverware to eat it with and the waiter who we asked for condiments never came back. As I'm cutting the chicken tenders I was feeding my 11 month old baby and 7 year old, I notice the chicken is completely RAW in the middle - pink & slimy. We ordered to go and one item in a large order wasn't included so check your to go orders before leaving. Also, due to short staffing be prepared to wait much longer than typical. This seafood was the most disgusting food I've ever had in Galveston. The salad was brown on the edges. The potatoes were barely warm. The shrimp and the crab cake stuffing tasted "off". I could not finish my meal. My husband and our friends who went with us had chicken fried steak and a beef sandwich. The beef sandwich had huge chunks of onion rather than finely sliced onion.
