Our first trip here did not disappoint! I had the seared ahi tuna with dirty rice and grilled squash as sides. Husband had his eyes on the fried shrimp but ended up with the Salisbury steak, mashed potatoes and cole slaw. We shared the hush puppies and they were so good, we got an order to go. The tuna was seared to perfection and the wasabi sauce was not diluted! Our friends also had the tuna and half grilled/half fried shrimp. Great service, reasonable prices, nice wine list though a bit high for $10 per glass of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc since a bottle is $17 - $20. But the pours were generous! This place looks more like a cafe than a place for supper when you walk in. Bright lights and cafe style tables and chairs. We ate outside and were told they were so busy (2 tables of two and one table of four) obviously not enough capable staff. They kept apologizing but still took half an hour to get drinks for six of us. The food was ok - not large portions but enough to eat. That was another hour wait. Rented a house nearby over Thanksgiving. Brought four adults and two kids here for Saturday night dinner. It was great. Western Burger had crispy bacon and was delicious. Took a long time to be acknowledged when we walked in. Sat at our table for around 10 whole minutes before being greeted. We were about to walk out when our waiter finally came. The mozzarella sticks were good. The chicken fried chicken was 'ok', the steak fries were soft and under seasoned. The fried shrimp was good, but the shrimp po boy my husband got was horrible. We had a great dinner here on our first night of vacation. We are staying at Jamaica Beach RV resort, so the closeness is what made us pick it. The food was delicious and service was good. The only reason I docked it a star is because the portions for the shrimp platter weren't as generous as we felt they should have been for the price. We used to come here all of the time because the food was so good and it was a nice family atmosphere. The atmosphere is still the same, but something else has changed and I don't know what it is. Haven't been here in a while and got some takeout. Took about 5-6 minutes of me standing at the register to be greeted even though employees kept walking by. Finally someone got my name and said it was almost ready. After 20 more minutes of standing there, the bartender went to check on the food, which had apparently been ready for a while and no one brought it out of the kitchen. We got shrimp kisses, mozzarella sticks, hush puppies, a shrimp dinner and wedge salad. The cheese sticks were crushed and all melted together, the fries were soggy and mealy. The salad was great, but I didn't get any dressing. The hush puppies had good flavor and were cooked perfectly. I can't say we won't be back, just probably not any time soon. read more

I've eaten here several times over the years. As always the quality of the food is excellent. Salads are fresh, mussels are delicious, the cheese sticks are huge. Bar tender is great. The fails however are huge. The service is abysmal. It's not the servers, there are four for 15 tops. The deficit seems to be the kitchen. We arrived at 6:15 and at 7:00 we still didn't have our apps. They finally came, but by 7:52 we still didn't have our entrees. We finally asked that the entrees be boxed to go. The restaurant we were supposed to eat at was closed so my family ended up at Nates. Stuffed shrimp was the same, with a slightly rotten taste. Fried fish was bad, but seemed ok after eating the horrible shrimp. I ended up only eating one bite of each thing on the plate except the hush puppies. Hamburgers may be the safest bet. Latest experience: - Cup of Gumbo was very pale in color, watery / completely tasteless and had zero signs of any chicken or shrimp as described in the menu.
