Hmmmm.....I would say "don't believe the hype" but I'm no Debbie Downer. I would want you to at least try and experience for yourself. Now as for me and mine....I wasn't super impressed by these "original world famous hot dogs". I thought they were decent. Nothing extra special that will make me say, "Hey, there's Nathans...we must stop." I just feel like my hotdogs taste better! So that's my take on the Nathan's dogs. The Coney Island experience....I went on a day when there was not a lot of people. The line was definitely long, but not as long as I'm sure it would've been on a normal summer day. There was a man standing near the lines selling coupons. Yep he was selling coupons! So he has several Nathans coupons and he's willing to give you one if you get to the counter...use it...realize it saved you some money....and take that savings or some of it to pay him for his service of giving you the coupon to save money then give to him. :) Got that? Well that is how it works. So.... I'm a friendly gal and appreciated his willingness to help others in the process of raising a little money...so I took him up on the offer. All my years and I had never eaten an actual Nathan's dog. And now I can say I've eaten about half? Looking through their expansive menu, I could help but get their seafood sampler plate, which for $10, was a STEAL. 6-8 fried shrimp, a slab of fried fish, and an actual pile of clam fritters, all nestled down upon a bed of thick cut French fries. It was way too much food for me to eat, but I gave it the old American try! My husband got the Lobster roll sandwich, which was delicious! Everything was super tasty, and to finish it off, we split a chilidog and I wish we'd gotten a second one. My only complaint was my own fault! On my trip to NY I wanted to check out Coney Island and grab a Nathan's dog. Took the Subway ride to Coney and got to check out the area and stopped by the stand to try a dog. My wife and I grabbed a dog with some chili and raw onions and put some mustard on. I found it weird that they only had deli mustard or dijon....where was the classic yellow?? Either way with the dog and cold beer went well together. The dog was good and the beach was great. Of course your are going to pay a higher price being on the boardwalk which is ok. I have had a Nathan's before and its a great dog but not anything that is going to change you life. Its kind of a right of passage to come here enjoy the view, walk the board walk and have a dog. There's not much to say about Nathan's that you probably don't already know and certainly that you wouldn't be able to find online. Nathans is famous, and being around 100 years at Coney Island is a good enough reason to give them a try. And that's what we did. The hot dogs were fine, but nothing to write home about. We were out visiting NYC and were driving down to Virginia Beach so found it necessary to stop off at Coney Island even though it was 2 weeks before everything opened for the summer season just to eat a hot dog at Nathans. We arrived and it was cold and sprinkling so was shocked to see Nathan's even opened. I thought the hot dog casing was tough. Almost like it was overcooked but maybe that's just the way they are made? The deli style mustard is awesome! It has more flavor than regular mustard and really set off the hot dog flavor well. Other than the hot dog casing being crunchy I thought the flavor of the hot dog itself was good. We also ordered the crinkle fries and they serve them in a big bag with two red little pitch forks. Somehow eating a hot dog with fries and sipping lemonade from the original Nathan's place makes the food even more delicious. But upon analyzing the hot dog itself, I think the Nathan hot dog from Penn Station was juicer and not as shriveled. This Nathan's place is the only location serving fried frogs legs. My husband and his sister yearns for this dish when he comes to this Nathan's location. It was tasty but wouldn't be my first choice - I prefer the fried clams but too bad the fried clams are just strips not the belly kind found at Legal Seafoods. They have a bathroom nearby but don't expect the cleanest . You can sit at the tables. Some have umbrellas but doesn't cover everybody at the table. Let me start by saying that I am the hotdogs number one fan, and Nathan's hotdogs are my all time favorite. The food is good. The service is god awful. The workers are mean, extremely slow and have major attitude problems. Even the manager gave a woman an attitude when she complained about a cheeseburger she ordered. It shouldn't take 10 minutes to get a hotdog, put it in a bun and fill up a cup of diet coke, but it did. I watched the woman get my food, and she stopped multiple times to dance with a friend and rap some Lil' Wayne song. Also, over 3 dollars for a hotdog is a rip off. But if you've never had one and want to be a touristy coney island visitor, you should spend the 3 dollars. read more

Me and my boyfriend went here thinking it was the original nathan's-- it's not. it's connected to an aunty anne's so i decided to try a pretzel dog since they didn't have any corn dogs. I also got the cheese fries and my boyfriend got two hot dogs with sauerkraut and fries. Firstly the way this place is run is just awful. You wait in line to order and they ask you for your name. Then they call out your name in no particular order to get your food. For example our food was done in 5 minutes but a few people around us said they've been waiting for 20 minutes so it's just luck of the draw I guess. However they forgot our soda and we had to ask about 5 different people before someone finally remembered and brought it to us. Truthfully we should have just left it because it was flat. Anyway my pretzel dog was very greasy and gross, my boyfriend said his sauerkraut wasn't good. and the cheese fries were average at best. Very average. I think that it's something you just have to try while in Coney Island but I wouldn't go out of my way for this hot dog. At the end of the day, it's nothing special but if you're in Coney Island for the rides it's a good place to stop by. One by one, it seems like every piece of good ol' New York is being replaced by suburbia. But thankfully Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs are still here.. and they're as good as ever. I recommend the plain hot dog (it's gluten-free). The goodness is not just in the hot dog; it's in the crowd, in the servers (esp. Shannon) and in the manager (Anthony). Anthony went totally out of his way to make sure that the guests in line were getting what they wanted with the utmost satisfaction. A couple of friends and myself got into town for an event at the Barclays center a little early and our hotel room wasn't ready yet, so we figured to go to Coney Island Boardwalk and chill for a little bit. After a 2 hour drive into town, and another 35 minute uber drove, we were all hungry. We decided to go the tourist route and swing by Nathan's for a few dogs. Just like a typical tourist food joint, the lines were crowded, long, and unorganized. There were 7 different lines so the 3 of us split up and took a line until someone got to the front. Once we got there, we kept it simple, 3 cheese dogs, 2 beers, and an orangeade. The bun wasn't all that great, tasted a little on the stale side. Being from Philly, I love cheez wiz, and I'm almost certain that was the cheese they used. If it wasn't, it was pretty close and I have no complaints about it. The dog itself was okay. It wasn't grilled enough for my taste buds. It was also on the thin side. I prefer a jumbo size dog, something with some girth (insert jokes). However, it did have a nice snap to it with the natural casing. And it was very juicy. Overall, it was an okay experience. It's a typical tourist joint with typical tourist food. I've had better hot dogs in Manhattan and I'm sure Brooklyn has better places to offer that are off radar. She proceeded to hand me a tiny paper bag that could only hold my fries so I asked her for a large plastic bag that was directly behind her within arms reach. I'm in love with Nathan's hot dogs, I've probably consumed way more than respectable woman should last summer. Throw some mustard, onions, and ketchup on it, and I'm a happy gal. Plain crinkle fries and the cheese fries are THE BEST and I can't get enough of them, you also get a really decent portion of fries whenever you come here. Deliciously fried, salty, and filling. After eating here, be prepared to look and feel about 7 months pregnant. Despite the guaranteed discomfort I get eating here, nothing beats eating a Nathan's hot dog, fries, and soda on the boardwalk during the summer days and nights. As much as I love it here, I'm not sure why it takes 45 minutes to take an order and cook the food here. Oh wait, let me paint a picture for a possible reason for the 45 minutes wait. As fate would have it, out of the 7 lines I could have joined, I hopped onto the America's Got Talent's potential performer line. Rather than getting the orders complete in a quick and efficient manner, our cashier would disappear for minutes upon minutes upon minutes. As I got closer, I saw that every time he would disappear, it was to dance around behind the counter and sing to the rest of the staff into his giant paper cup. Are you kidding me, bro? This was literally infuriating. Not one manager had anything to say to the staff members who were spending their customers' time and trying their patience, to chit-chat and dance around. For people who are around the food all the time, I'm not sure why the cashiers act confused every time they are given an order. For example, I said "...and one water bottle." The cashier looked at me and after a long pause said, "...So you mean a bottle of water?" &%$#@!!!!! Many of the staff needs to work quicker and more efficiently and learn how to interact with customers better. Also, considering you have people swarm your establishment by the dozens, maybe getting more tables wouldn't be a bad idea. Nothing beats stalking around families uncomfortably until they feel forced to get up and leave out of discomfort, thus, allowing you to sit and enjoy some of your meal before someone does the same to you.
