Too add to the disappoint that is Coney Island, Nathans Famous on the Boardwalk is simply overrated at best. You can find better hotdogs just about anywhere in NYC. And it's probably a lot cheaper too. I ended up getting the original hot dog w/ chili. $5.xx. It's not the first time I've had Nathan's. I've tried their hot dogs at Citifield and Yankee's Stadium but I thought maybe the hot dogs at the original stand would be better. Well, it isn't. Hot dogs are small, overpriced. Even the novelty of the annual 4th of July hot dog competition doesn't warrant a trek out to Coney Island and it sure as heck doesn't warrant eating at Nathans. If you want good hot dogs, go to Gray's Papaya or any Street Vendor. Cheaper and way better hotdogs. read more

Came here for the first time recently after many years of trying to make it out to Coney Island and it totally met my expectations! I wound up getting a chili hot dog with cheese and it was the best one I have ever had! I also had to go with getting the chili cheese fries as well and they were also excellent! They have seating for customers as well right out on the boardwalk with umbrellas. Service was also very quick. I also got to try their Coney Island craft Mermaid beer which was great and would highly suggest trying it to those who like hoppy beer. Thank god I don't live near here because I would gain and disgusting amount of weight from indulging in those hot dogs. Needless to say, I can't wait to return! read more

The only reason I'm giving this 1 star is because it's located at the iconic Coney Island Boardwalk and the views of the beach and ocean are amazing there. The girl that waited on us could have cared less about her job. Placed our order and immediately knew it was wrong we she told me that it was $26.00, one cheese dog, one chili dog, and two drink should not have been that much. Realized that she added a chili dog that should not have been on the order, ok the manager took it off. Now bill is $21.00, still not correct, there was also an additional drink on the order, it was removed and now the order is correct. We didn't wait long for the food to arrive. Found a seat in the art park to eat. These were the worst hot dogs that I think I have ever had. Can't believe all the good reviews, but if these are the only hot dogs that you have ever had then you have no idea what you are missing. Coming from an area where Hoffmans hot dogs rule, there is no comparison. Can at least say that I have been here but will never go back. read more

Don't go in with any pretenses - this is standard boardwalk fast food. The major pro here is that, in a boardwalk filled with overpriced cheese fries and lobster rolls, their prices have been subject to very minor increases since they went into business 100 years ago. It's one of the most affordable meals on Coney Island! Definitely beware of the chaotic line situation, but you get what you pay for! read more

This place is super busy with pretty long line but not worth the wait time. I had taken the shrimp platter. The quantity was good enough but not worth the price for the quality they offer. The taste isn't very great. They serve you with different sauces but it doesn't hype up the taste...atleast not for my taste buds:( Maybe some of you may like it. read more

Christ, the managers behind the counters really are not in sync with the customers. Very understandable requests we have here: fast service, good food and a smile. I just got good food :'( and I was jumping from line to line after I was on one line for 15 minutes only to be told that the manager will be dismissing the counting the till, so why did it take thirty minutes to get my food??? The hot dogs are famous for a reason, the skins snap back after biting into it mmmmMMm... the cheese backen fries left something to be desired, there are not crunchy, feels like they nuked them in the Micro wave. The lobster rolls are big but not the flavor, pretty bland. Like good tourists, we tried Nathan's when we went to Coney Island. Lines were not very long but the service was incredibly slow. My carnivore company was completely underwhelmed by the oh so famous hot dogs and had much better elsewhere for a lot less money. I made the mistake and tried the fries twice but no matter if with cheese (not sure how this sauce qualifies for the name cheese) or without, they were just bad and soggy. First off, let me say that we did not have hot dogs. Instead, we opted for seafood. I got the fried shrimp and my mom got the lobster salad sandwich. Both meals were awesome. The shrimp was freshly made and just rightly crisp, not burnt and not old with decent cocktail sauce. The lobster salad was good too with just enough mayonnaise. We also got some of the Auntie Anne's pretzels and they were delicious. Oh and the fresh lemonade. So, all that (4 pretzels total between 3 people), was about $30. Pretty great value for good fare. Seating could be an issue, but nearby benches accommodate 3-4 people just fine and the view and atmosphere are wonderful. read more

Tastes famous. the girl working was awesome! Super nice, fast, and friendly (even though it was super busy and chaotic). I got a chili cheese dog which was really good and my girlfriend got a hot dog with ketchup. Hers wasn't all that good to me. The bread was super stale and it was much more obvious on hers than it was with the chili on mine (I would know because she made me eat the second half of hers). We also got the large cheese fries to share. It was the perfect amount. Maybe even a little bigger than we needed. They were perfectly cooked and very good. The line was long, but we got there first so there wasn't a long wait. Keep in mind though there isn't a lot of seating. Knocked down two stars for stale bread and kind of expensive for the overall quality. Having fresh bread may have made a huge difference. I'll update if I go back. read more

Probably the worst service I've had in awhile. There was zero sense of urgency and meanwhile the line is getting ridiculously long. They moved so slow that it took way longer than it should have just to get 2 plain hot dogs! Furthermore, I asked for a cup of water (since I'd gotten rather dehydrated standing in the hot sun for over 40 minutes) and they forgot to give it to me. I didn't ask again because I was so fed up by that point I didn't feel like standing there a second longer. The hot dog wasn't even that good! I do not recommend this place. read more

Ventured out to the Coney Island boardwalk today to see the sights and experience Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs. Its perfectly picturesque and iconic location make it the ideal place to devour a hotdog.. If only you could get your hands on one! From the time we ordered to the time we received our food, 40 minutes had passed! Whilst waiting, we had food service workers question what our order was multiple times before seeing our food being made. Eventually the manager ensured we got our order but without so much as an apology. Given the small amount of customers on this Sunday afternoon and the 5 workers they had behind the counter, we would have expected better although the food itself was very good. We ordered a hotdog with onions & mustard and a corn dog. Despite the poor service we received on this cold, off-peak spring day, we hope to enjoy Nathan's hot dogs again in the future. read more

There's always a crowd here, but it is not a bad wait with many cashiers present. I like the various hotdogs and fries options. Ones with chili cheese or bacon are always a good pick. 3.5 Stars. Being so close to the "original" location and having never been to Coney Island, I figured, why not? Well, after parking nearby, I quickly found out that the original spot is under massive reconstruction. Dang. But I was still hungry. A-ha, to the boardwalk I go! The windy and cool conditions apparently had no affect on those determined to enjoy the sunny day and also get their Nathans fill, so there was a bit of a wait even with several lines formed up at the stand. Having eaten regular Nathan's dogs plenty of times at other various locations, I decided to venture out and try the chili cheese dog instead. A little pricey for a combo meal, but it was a delicious mess. Bottom line: A Nathan's hot dog is a Nathan's hot dog no matter where you eat it. It's just a little bit nicer eating it on the boardwalk by the beach, IF you can get a seat at one of their tables. Three stars for the dog, half a star for the location. read more

Yes, I made a special trip out to Coney Island in November just to visit Nathan's. And it was worth it! Service was absolutely terrible and SO SLOW. I sincerely hope they kick it up a notch in the summer. But even so, the hot dogs are so good. Add an order of cheese fries and I'm a happy camper. There's a huge patio over to the side with lots of tables. Any true hot dog fans should definitely make the trip. It's an icon. :) read more

I used to come here a lot as a kid so it always brings back the bright memories of childhood of running around in the sands during the summer days. There had to be at least a 8 year gap until I returned here again. I was waiting on to shoot last summer and I just happen to be around the area one Saturday so I stopped by this Nathan's. The lines were full but was not staggering full. I did not notice much tourists that day either. I waited in line for 5 minutes approximately before I got to order. I ordered the krinkle fries or wriggly fries as I call it. I still remember how much I loved Nathan fries as a kid but it just tasted bland when I ate it that specific time. I don't know if it was my change in taste or Nathan changed their recipe a bit. The fries just a bit dry for my tastes but ketchup always make things better. Why would anyone come here? Hot dogs!!! They are always cranking their hot dogs. And it's Coney Island! If you were born in the '90's or lived in it, then this is where a part of your childhood is spent. Been eating at Nathan's all my life. Had a hot dog today (they used to call the frankfurters at Nathan's) and an order of French Fries. I am bias because I grew up with them, but I think their fries are the best. Others can be about as good but have not found any better than theirs. Nathan's Hot Dogs are absolutely delicious, but nowadays you can find them anywhere. Thus, with how bad the service is here, I just can't justify to myself ever coming back. I had locked on Nathan's as a must see after googling things to do on July 4th from Australia, but sadly I think I wasted my time. After escaping the monstrous crowds and the annual eating comp, we joined another crowd at the boardwalk store for approximately 20 minutes to receive our grub. Finally the time arrived and our chili dog, buffalo wings and cheeseburger had landed. Visually I was expecting a little more then the taste.. It was very underwhelming with little taste as I was expecting bags of flavour and something that would easily take the mantle as number one hotdog in my life, but no. I can honestly say I have had far better hotdogs and my children's school carnivals that are generally cooked by the kids themselves, son that's an indication of their dogs quality and flavour. Now I have to say I really enjoyed the buffalo wings besides the tiny size if them, the vinegar in the sauce gave a wonderful kick and was the overall winner compared to the hot dog. The cheeseburger also gets a noteworthy mention as it had bags of flavour and really gave you a wake up call.
