Lovely breakfast to start the weekend. Game and cheese Omlette with hash browns and an English muffin. Filling brunch. Also cooked and served quickly and with care every time. I moved about 25 minutes away and still drive in for this breakfast. The burgers are also tasty. The fries are thicker size and so good. Located conveniently on main street so easy to get to. Private parking lot with store on the end corner of the building. Seating inside is plentiful with a few tables outside as we often have great weather. Been going to this chain for many years in the Bay Area. Thankfully we have one around here. Note to owners: we need more locations in Sacramento area. We were the only 2 people in the restaurant this morning.We had to wait 25 minutes for our breakfast.I don't think I've ever experienced anything so disgusting.I got the cheese omelet and it was like eating plastic rubber.The hash Browns were cold and were like they'd been fried in old grease, and they threw them on the plate to heat it up.The only thing that was redeeming sort of was the warm sour dough toast because I got to spread some smuckers jelly on it. Biggest waste of 30 dollars ever! Discovered a childhood fave is now in Elk Grove! Nations Burgers and Pies is right off the Sheldon exit at Hwy 99. Got a patty melt and crispy fries...aaaand of course had to have pie! Got a slice of chocolate cream pie. Enjoyed the patty melt on it's super toasty grilled bread with cheese, 1000 Island sauce and grilled onions. Paired perfectly witb the crispy fries. Should rename to: Nations "Mid" Burgers. We visit this location often for shakes and pie, and for the most part the quality is pretty consistent. The employees are never friendly, the atmosphere is a (get your food and get out) kind of vibe, yet we get our sugar fix. Tonight, on Christmas, we saw they were open so decided to try the food at this location. It was a mistake. The burgers were just bad, the buns were burnt to the point of being inedible. I dont get the hype anymore. The employees were not welcoming whatsoever. Normally people would be annoyed to be working on Christmas, but the employees all seemed to be Muslim (speaking Arabic and in Hijabs), so it should have been just a normal day for them, and yet none of them wanted to be there. Zero interaction, just get your food and get out of my face. The fries were soggy, hardly cooked. The burgers thrown together like it was a food competition and the buns were burnt nearly to ash. Nations was once a gem, the place you went for a consistently good burger and good customer service. Do not expect any of that here. I don't know what happened to this place?? The last time we came here was about ten years ago and we loved the few times we've come here. It has that American diner vibe and we've always enjoyed coming here. We came for lunch since we were in the area. We were the only customers. The manager ran the register, there was one cook and an employee having her break. Hubs got the cheeseburger w/fries and a soda. I just had my usual the chilli dog with onions and cheese. The price has gone up, over $35 including tip. The manager was nice and friendly but this was the only positive thing about Nation's We waited a long time for our food, and when it came out, the cheeseburger and fries were very greasy! There was grease on the fry bag and grease all over the lettuce. My chilli dog was underwhelming. The chilli was salty and lacked spices. We both didn't finish our food, and that's rare when it comes to fast food. So disappointed that our visit was terrible and food has gone way down in quality. read more

This place is criminally underrated here. I'm not if they just don't serve enough ostrich meat or goat cheese on their burgers for some people but if you want A GREAT, OLD FASHIONED BURGER, this a great place to eat. First time trying nations and I knew right off the bat it was going to be a franchisee because of the Toast branded registers and food quality was going to vary. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience. Prices are up there for food that is almost considered fast food. 13+ cheeseburger and fries and no drink. Still edible though. No seasoning either. Now here's the problem I had: The BLT. I have never seen a blt with only two pieces of bacon only making it in the center. I was truly baffled and compelled to write this review. The blt cost close to 10 dollars and I know bacon can be quite costly but two pieces of bacon? No way. Straight robbery. Horrible! We have been Nations fan for 20 years in the bay area and for the last 7 here in Citrus Heights. We noticed about a month ago quality went down quite a bit and I said I'd never come back.....well we came back today forgetting that I said I'd never come back again. Service was really bad, hardly spoke English, the burger was tasteless and hard as a brick. The bun was burned on the outer edges and the bun itself was crunchy lake hard toast, also a black hair in my over cooked fries. I asked some other customers what they thought and they just said their meal was nasty and would never come again. I agree, waste of $38.00. The ladies working were very friendly and professional and they prepared and served the food quickly and efficiently! The dining room has lots of nostalgic pictures and photos, it's clean and everything is well stocked. Here are the reasons why I will only give one star or there was an option I'll would say zero stars. So my partner and me moved from bay area to Sacramento. And we know that nations alway serves food burgers, fries etc. So going to another location wouldn't be that different. Nope we were wrong. I came from school, and drove to this location. There were only two people working and one person eating in the establishment. I ordered, paid then waiting for the order to be cooked and finished. Tell me why the person that made the food, prepared everything then went on their phone while they were waiting for burger to cooked. Remind you this guy was wearing a mask and coughing sporadically, and didn't his mouth and touched his face and his gloves were off. And when he was about to flip the burger to cook on the other side. He put on a "new gloves and didn't washed his hands. So I told him, that he needs to washed his again if you're going to cook the food. It's cross termination. You touched your face and coughed without covering his face. And I don't care if you're going to wear "new gloves " your hands are still dirty. The other coworker didn't seem like he care the person was cooking with dirty hands because his phone went off while cleaning garage and didn't washed his hands either. The person who cooked the order didn't apologize. His only response was "thank you come again." And I believe the person they cooked the order was Sarfi I'm not 100% but please do better. Lastly in this location stops serving any type of food including serving pie after 10:20pm, I know this because we tried to order from this location at 10:20pm. So at first glance the place looks nice and its clean. Has a nice lil modern diner feel and a pie case. The service was iffy kinda like couldn't care less if we were there lol. I thought it was weird that the food was a la carte but vibed it out anyway. We got a patty melt, a western burger bought onion rings and fries separately and a bowl of chili. Came out to be like forty buck for two people. Kinda tracks with inflation. I did like the burger and the onion rings. The fries were acceptable . The bowl of chili however was disappointing and misleading. The chili came in a small cup which hardly looked 8oz(definitely not a bowl)and didn't come with cheese for 5$. Honestly a can from the store would have tasted better. I dont think ill be back. If i do ill probably stick to the burgers and rings. Overall the place caught my attention and has potential. If they would tinker with the recipe a bit and revamp their customer service i think it could turn around. Shoot, maybe get a liquor license and sell pitchers. We went to return it and they refused to take it back or refund our money or give us another pie. It smelled terrible. We brought the whole pie back minus as the bite that we took out of the piece. Let's see where do I start . My wife asked if a drink comes with a meal and he says yes then when we look at the receipt he charged for a drink to addition to the meal price. I ordered a burrito and it was changed to something else that was $3.00 more the manager/owner of this place decided to change my order . Then when I said I had ordered the burrito he says I make it a burrito for you but didn't want to change the price . My daughter ordered pancakes and the pancakes where so hard you need a knife to cut them. My other daughter order the slider meal and after eating one of them she felt sick all the way home . With regards to the cleanliness of this place I don't know where to start. The was no clean tables the creamer container for coffee had no lid on it and wasn't cold . I love Nation's pies! I usually get a whole chocolate cream pie. Years ago my husband and I tried the burgers. I thought they were to big. Very full after eating burgers and fries. We would take a slice of pie home. After awhile, we just came for the pie. I have gotten the lemon Meringue pie for my Dad's birthdays over the years. This past week I was craving a Hamburger. My husband had a different idea, but still wanted to stop by and get a pie. I told him I wanted a Hamburger. He said then let's just go and have both burgers and pies. I usually do not like produce on my burgers or sandwiches. Since its been awhile I wanted to try the burger as they make it. I still asked for no pickles. I can't stand pickles! Then we noticed menu said pickles on request. I lucked out. Our food was ready..tons of luttce (not the shredded type, that was a plus). Three huge slices of tomatoes and a slice of onions. The tomatoes looked beautiful! I couldn't eat that many I left one in my burger to try. Tasted so yummy I had to remove some of the luttce since there was a lot. The cheese was a thick piece I could taste it as I was eating the burger. Next time I will try with the grilled onions. I wanted to try regular this time since I haven't had it that why in awhile. Nation's... it's a NorCal thing (mostly Bay Area) Hamburgers, breakfast, pies, shakes... they offer an eclectic menu. I had the cheeseburger and I forgot how huge these burgers were. I didn't know where to start. No skimping on anything... thick juicy 1/3-lb beef with 2 thick American cheese slices (melted) and all the toppings: 3 thick slices of onions, 3 thick slices of tomatoes, lots of lettuce folded over 3x and Mayo slathered on the buns. It was messy eating it but so yummy. I also got a slice of custard pie. It was okay... I've had custard pies which were more flavorful especially the kind found in Filipino and Chinese bakeries. Their Banana Crème Pie is delicious. I bought a whole pie to bring to work and my co-workers enjoyed it. We bus our own tables so empty trash in the receptacles and leave trays on the tray shelf just above. Just a few noticeable minor takeaways: The napkin dispensers on the condiment table need refilling. There were 3 empty napkin dispensers and no team member was checking them to refill. Lastly, the restaurant could do better on the cleaning part, the sides of the table I was seated were displaying residual food that wasn't wiped down. Order took about 15 minutes to get. Place not busy at all. French fries were not cooked. Still pale color and barely warm. Onion rings were really over -coated but I liked them. My husband didn't. On leaving my husband refilled my regular coke cup. In the car I discovered that it wasn't coke at all. It was the one near the lids and salt etc. Hamburger was delicious. I think here must be new owners. My husband ordered a chocolate milkshake and said it tasted just like vanilla. This never happens to us here. Will give it another try soon. read more

First visit to this place. Had been meaning to go for years, but the bad reviews stopped us. The food was better than I thought it was going to be. We ordered two hamburgers, which were $7.75 each. They were made fresh. The burgers are bigger than most fast food restaurants and bigger (but more expensive too) than In N Out or The Habit. The burgers reminded me of an old time restaurant. I'd say the quality is comparable to In N out, which is good. At the time of our visit, we were the only new customers in the store (there were a couple of customers sitting there, but they had been eating already). Several customers came in, but the place wasn't very crowded. This was about 1:15 or 1:30pm. Since they weren't crowded when we came in, they made our order right away. I think, had they been more crowded, they would have been understaffed. There were two ladies and a man working. But in our case, the order came quickly. It was hot. Maybe a little too much lettuce. I had to take the lettuce off of my burger to fit it into my mouth. I wouldn't say the place was dirty. I'm not sure how fastidious they are in cleaning.
