I'm seldom compelled to leave bad reviews for a place but this is completely ridiculous. This is $6.15 worth of hash browns that I ordered through Grub Hub since I am sick with the flu. Even at their price of $4.95 on their menu this is a ridiculously small portion. It's 1/4th of a potato and was literally $1 per bite. I almost thought the box was empty because it felt so light. They also tasted old and had a staleness to them. I ordered these at night time so they should be fresh, did I get leftovers from breakfast? I used to really like Nations but this is enough to make me stop going if they're going to price gouge and rip off their customers and serve mediocre garbage like this. read more

Mannnn it's been a while since I've been here but it hasn't changed much. Breakfast was always good to me or a decent grab to get. However the burgers have went down a bit and don't taste the way they used to or maybe it was and off day and I'll have to go try again not sure. Shakes are still good and the pies are always great to get a slice, half or whole pie that's on you! Staff here is always friendly and don't mind making accommodations with changes to something unless it's already made. called in an order for pick up came in 10 minutes before my order was supposed to be ready and waited patiently. Received my order and they gave me a cold burger and reheated/refried hard fries. Initially only realized the fries were cold so asked for a fresh set of fries and went to try and eat my burger as I waited for my fresh fries and realized the burger itself was soggy and cold so as for a brand new burger as well. Nation's pies are the best! My favorite of all time is their lemon meringue. The meringue is so fluffy and delicious! It's so fluffy that it doesn't quite fit in the box without the top getting smushed a bit, but that's okay because fluffy is best for meringue. My husband likes the banana cream so we usually get both when we are in town. The food is good too, fries are always hot and my kids like the grilled cheese. They are usually busy so the service is fine, you order at the counter and pick up your food when they call you. We mostly come for the pies, try the lemon meringue if you like lemon! It's the best! PS if you're here during strawberry tart season, definitely get one (or more). They are also amazing. (I believe it's around May-June.) read more

This location has been open for as long as I can remember . Always good for a regular classic burger especially on a late night . I love burgers, and Nation's is my favorite burger out of any place. Their burger is always consistent. if you haven't been to Nation's, they pack burgers with lots of veggies. When you get your burger, you will have 5+ layers of iceberg lettuce, a few slices of tomatoes, and a whole slice of onion. So I always ask for light tomato and sub the onion for grilled onions. Also, they don't put any condiments on your burger except Miracle Whip. If you don't like Miracle Whip, try their burger because it might change your opinion. If you're vegetarian, try their Harvester burger. I'm not a vegetarian and I think it's excellent. I believe the patty the use is from Dr Praegers. Their fries is not bad either and I like to order them extra crispy. If you like pies, their banana cream pie is a must-try! read more

I have not been to this Nations location since they renovated. Sadly, I will not go back. I've been here many times over the years with zero issues. Today was a different story though. I know food costs are high, but a double burger with fries and a drink and a 3 egg breakfast was over $50 with tip. The burger was absolutely TASTELESS. My hash browns were insanely crunchy, and I didn't think it was possible for scrambled eggs to be as dry as these were, but they were inedible. The only thing that was ok was the sourdough toast and linguisa. On the upside the interior looks nicer than it did before, but that's the only positive I can say. We were not sure if the tariffs had them switching to new companies or not, but I would suggest going a few doors down to McDonalds...they are still pricey, but at least they are consistent. read more

Can I just say that Nation's has my favorite version of grilled cheese as of yet! It nice and cheesy, full of veggies and the breads perfectly toasted. They do put tons of mayo on it though so be sure to ask for lite mayo if you don't like a bunch. I also got a Vanilla shake but it was kind of watery. I put it in the freezer and then after a few hrs it was pretty good. I did have it delivered though so that may have contributed to that factor. read more

It's 2022, and Nation's is celebrating it's 70th birthday. This restaurant chain is based in the SF Bay Area, and now has locations all over Northern California. It's a diner style, "cook to order" restaurant. It's menu features: hamburgers, fries, drinks, onion rings, breakfast and pies. The other day, I was at San Leandro Plaza around 9pm and decided to stop by the Nation's there. It was a little crowded, so I waited for some of the customers to clear out. Right now, the Covid-19 policy posted on the door said.....un-vaccinated persons must wear masks inside. When I went in, the worker behind the counter was wearing a mask. So, I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger (lite onions), Fries, and a slice of Apple pie. Total price: $20. Bacon Cheeseburger is $10.35. Hmmm, maybe I should go back to regular Cheeseburgers. Anyway, the guy cooking my burger was pretty friendly and talkative. As more people came in, he had to concentrate on keeping track of filling orders. More staff came out to help out. I guess I waited about 15 minutes for my order. That's about right. It looks like Nation's uses a simple flat grill with no clamshell press. That means it takes longer to properly cook a 1/3-lb meat patty. Then you need to drop fries and watch the timers. Service, Grade (4/5) How was the food? Grade(4/5): Bacon Cheeseburger was cooked medium. I asked for light onions, and I got chopped onions. Bacon was a little chewy, but there's a lot of bacon. Good amount of lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Fries were hot and fresh as expected, right from the kitchen. And I got a big piece of Apple pie. BTW, Doordash adds extra $$$ to the menu prices. If you want hot and fresh food, at in-store prices, you have to go to the restaurant and order it in person. French fries have a 7-10 min holding time. There was four of us that wanted to have ourselves a lazy, let's binge watch some marvel kind of day. And it just so happened we were all in a mood for a burger. We decided on having some nations delivered. We ordered bacon cheeseburgers and fries. We were bummed that onion rings was not on the menu so we had ourselves old, stale fries. There was a few fresh fries, but the rest weren't. All our burger orders were at least correct. It's just that my burger was not looking too enticing and was overwhelmed with condiments. It didn't want to stay together. The bun was just falling apart. I enjoyed what I could. We also ordered a pie, but for some reason it didn't taste as fresh nor as good as it usually did. Still the same ol nations. What's not to like, there's breakfast & burgers. This location is larger than the one in jack london and less busy depending on the time of day. I'll usually get a burger and a milkshake, or some chili cheese fries, or breakfast I like the cheeseburger omelette (it's a burger patty chopped up with cheese in the omelette). Husband and I are at the San Leandro Cherry Festival. We forget to bring bottled water from home. The weather is warm and beautiful, but we need liquid hydration. On my way to Safeway to get the blueberry and strawberry/lemonade Bai drinks, I see Nations along the way. Get the Bai and then a pit stop at Nations before walking back to the festival. I have to order something for the both of us. The patties at this Nations are thicker than the ones in Alameda. That is a plus. Service is okay; nothing extraordinary to warrant a four star rating. I do love some of their pies - coconut cream, lemon meringue, banana cream. My all-time favorite is the seasonal peaches 'n cream pie, which they sell from May to about mid-July. Thought I was going for the Mix 'n Match $5 deal at Mickey D's again. However I remembered a review from my friend, Karen L. She described the Cheeseburger perfectly and the kind service. I decided to go full on at Nation's! I've had carry out from here, but never stepped inside. A super clean store and I mean clean!l The pies looked delicious and fresh. I did all that I could to look the other way. The booths and tables are spotless. Yes, a charming young woman took my order. A bit surprised and very grateful for my $2 tip too.
