My favorite soup is Loaded Potato, then their Cauliflower, then their Clam Chowder. Their sandwiches were delicious, but a few months ago when they reopened after the pandemic shutdown, their recipes changed. Their prices also went up. I work kitty corner from Nauvoo Cafe, and have been here for over nine months, and just barely tried Nauvoo Cafe for dinner a couple weeks ago. I got the turkey cranberry sandwich. It was warm, which I didn't expect. But I loved the bread, and the sandwich as a whole was really good. I loved my half nuts and berries salad as well, although I could use crumbles of cheese instead of square chunks. Maybe we're splitting hairs here. My man got the beef dip sandwich, which he really enjoyed. The next time I went with him, he got the grilled cheese, and oh my word. I had a bite of his, and it was so good. If only I could fit it into my calorie goals. My favorite thing about Nauvoo Cafe is that they have BYU Creamer chocolate milk, which is far superior to any other. Their service has been OK each time, and their prices are pretty good in my opinion. I'll definitely be coming back. It's delicious and a two minute walk, so why not? read more

The question remains is the Nauvoo Cafe ... poised in the lobby of the Joseph Smith Memorial Smith Building ... resting on its laurels because it's this only reasonably priced cafe dining in the joint? Their best selling point is their menu. They have one-of-a-kind choices they have like the Coca‐Cola Pork Loin and the Hawaiian Ham Zinger (with Pineapple Mango Chutney). They have the tried-and-true classics like hot dogs, grilled cheese, BLT (with an "A" for avocado added), and a PB&J sammy. They also make a perfect pot pie ... at least my memory from having it some 8 years ago tells me so. I only have one "meal" to base my Nauvoo review on ... today's Nauvoo's Original Turkey Cranberry: oven-roasted turkey, provolone, red onion, lettuce, tomato, and their signature "Cranberry Orange Relish." I love turkey cranberry sandwiches, so I have a high standard. That being said, it was a ho-hum sandwich. Everything's fresh, but all the ingredients together make for a muddled taste ... they've got excellent turkey, and IMHO simple is better. Have turkey, mayo, a cranberry sauce (sans the gigantic mandarin orange chunks). A good cranberry sandwich needs nothing else. And, as I may mention, a member of our group waited 20 minutes for a salad. My guess is their "buzzers" don't cover the distance from the prep area to their far tables. Serving sizes are for an individual - SANDWICHES are pretty good, served on white or wheat Ciabatta bread, though they feel a bit pricey at $8.50 ((as of May 2018) and definitely not large enough to feed more than one average eater. COCA COLA PORK LOIN and the TURKEY CRANBERRY are the best-sellers. Previously they had an Italian Roast Beef that was outstanding but it has been removed from the menu. Tragic. For breakfast, their egg sandwiches are a great deal and are made fresh while you watch. I also enjoy their muffin tops but recently they started packaging them. They still taste the same but I get a 'less fresh' feeling now. Lunch is primarily sandwiches. For the portion size, the price seems a little high. My go-to lunch place when I'm in Salt Lake City on business. Located in the lovely Joseph Smith Memorial Building with big, bright windows looking out onto Temple Square. It's just a very cheerful place to eat. I could rave all day about the pot pies - the buttery, flaky crust! The enormous chunks of turkey! The fact that they're so hot and fresh you will lose tastebuds! Truly, the best pot pie I've had in my life. The Coca-Cola pork loin sandwich deserves enthusiastic reviews, though, too. Very tender and flavorful. The place has kind of a weird cafeteria-y ambience and it can get pretty crowded at peak mealtimes, but the service is always very friendly. As for the prices, I see some complaints about it being too expensive. I actually had the opposite impression, particularly when you consider the other non-fast food options in the area. Although not physically in Temple Square, this cafe is owned and run by the church. A very small but tasty selection of lunch items. But for you non-Mormons, just know that there is no coffee or tea served in the cafe as it does not conform to the acceptable beverages of the church. There are sodas. I used to stop by on my way to work and it was the perfect combination of inexpensive/good/fast. The sandwiches are also good. But their tomato soup is legit disgusting. It has more sugar than some desserts. It would make a decent pizza sauce, but as a soup it was terrible. My lunch date was grossed out just watching me attempt to eat it (she is the one who came up with the pizza sauce idea because the texture is so thick). Not quite sure why this place doesn't have higher reviews, but its a really nice place to go to for breakfast. While I haven't had any of their lunch items, I enjoyed their breakfast items. After being in SLC for a week, I can say that this place was one of my favorites. I was kinda skeptical to come here, but the creme brule french toast really caught my eye. Im so surprised that no one has really mentioned this. Trust me when I say this but get the creme brule french toast will not disappoint your taste buds. After my first bite, I felt like I was in heaven!!! It was sooooo delicious that I wish I had gotten two orders. It comes with a thick slice of french toast that's covered in syrup but the texture is like no other french toast. Definitely get this to try and you will be amazed like I was. I also had their omelettes with potatoes and a few of their baked goods (my favorite is the blue berry muffin top). Not only was the food here good, it was so cheap! Give their French dip sandwich a try! This place was not bad, portioning was a little small, maybe it needed a side of chips and a drink. Decor was modern and clean, the price alright, skewing 1 or 2 dollars more than normal. I was able to try many of their sandwiches, like the French dip, tuna, chicken, and ham. I thought they were all pretty good.The flavors of their different components were strong and worked well together. Their bread was also pretty good, I'm not sure but tasted fresh baked. You order at a counter and pick up the food yourself. They have a nice and large outdoor area where you can eat as well. The nice cashier recommended the CSS over the ABLT (avocado BLT) and i can't agree more. The bread was toasted, the chicken salad had some great taste, fresh & sweet to my liking. The food came quickly, however I was informed upon getting my food that they ran out of soup and the lady at the pickup counter was useless in offering a solution to my problem. The grilled cheese was average but not very grilled. Kinda just melted cheese between warm bread. After a quick tour of the Mormon Temple, my dad and I stopped at the Nauvoo Cafe on a warm rainy day. I wasn't expecting much from my turkey sandwich but what I got, was a near religious experience. Maybe it was the 2000 miles or so it had taken for me to get there from Pittsburgh, PA while traveling cross country. Or maybe it was the freshly carved roasted turkey, freshly baked bread, crisp lettuce and the sweet yet spicy sauce that turned that mundane lunch into one of the highlights of my cross country trek. Our office did lunch from Nauvoo Cafe and I was instantly transported back in time to a place when Betty Crocker reigned supreme, jello molds were all the rage, and mayonnaise was used on everything. We went to the Nauvoo Cafe for a bite to eat after touring the Temple Square area the other night. It's in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, which has a beautifully decorated lobby and a chandelier like nothing I have ever seen before. When we first walked in, the manager came up to us and asked if we had any questions. She offered suggestions and was very friendly. We each decided to go with sandwiches--my friends got turkey with cranberry orange relish, and I ordered the Coca Cola pork with BBQ mayo. The meat was freshly sliced and very, very good. My friends LOVED the relish on their sandwiches, and I really enjoyed the bread. The cafe had other options in addition to the sandwiches--soups, salads, and pot pies. Although we didn't try them, they looked delicious as well. If you're in downtown Salt Lake City, the Nauvoo Cafe is a great place to grab a sandwich. I would definitely go back. read more
