Ruth's Diner offers one of the best outdoor dining areas I've come across in my 25 years of living in the SLC area. There's a back patio that's surrounded by trees offering ample shade and a quiet, pleasant dining experience (some nights during the summer there is live music). The menu boasts a variety of primarily American comfort foods (soups, steak, salmon, meatloaf, etc.), but salads and tacos are also options. And don't skimp on the dessert -- the chocolate malt pudding is famous and is quite tasty. The service was also terrific -- very friendly and attentive throughout! While it's a little out of the way to come regularly, I can definitely see myself putting this in the rotation of places to frequent, especially because of the ambiance.

    The patio is beautifully relaxing!

Beautiful ambiance. The patio is relaxing and well shaded. At 72 degrees, breakfast on the patio was a gift. The service was wonderful, friendly, and prompt. The food is okay, not great, excluding thier "mile-high" biscuits. I don't know what magic they do to make baking powder biscuits so moist. But they are heavenly! This coming from a person who doesn't really like breads. We'll be back, we've been going there for decades.

Everything you could ever want from a diner. An absolutely massive menu makes it easy to find something you're in the mood for. Portion sizes were great, as was the quality of the food we got and the customer service of the employees. We were sat directly in front of a massive picture of Ruth herself, and I must say, it really added to the vibe of the experience.

Haven't been here in years, but his place has such a great vibe especially in the summer months. Great drive up the canyon is also a vibe. I prefer the brunch menu but the lunch is also real good. It's a must!!

This is a unique, historic spot in a beautiful area. Unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience here: We came here as a graduation meal for a family member. My husband has dietary restrictions that make eating at diners difficult for him, but we were outvoted. Luckily there was one dish he could eat--the steak and eggs. The steak usually comes with teriyaki, but he asked for it without as he cannot have added sugars in his food. After a while, the servers/staff brought out half our food. The other half apparently wasn't in the system, so they had to retake half the table's orders. Meanwhile, my husband's steak was covered in teriyaki, so we had to ask for it to be remade. The rest of the food eventually came out, along with my husband's steak, which was once again covered in teriyaki sauce. They finally got it right on the third try, at which point everyone else was almost done eating. I got a turkey sandwich with pasta salad. The pasta salad was incredible, but the turkey sandwich was sadly bland. I couldn't even taste the mayonnaise. Overall, I don't see any reason we would ever come back.

Brunch in a trolly car - a unique experience with a delicious menu. Every dish comes with a Mile High biscuit which is heavenly. So fluffy and perfectly dense. Your taste buds get a treat right off the bat! I love the Pulled Pork Benedict. I am a big Eggs Benedict fan and was intriuqed by how unique this dish was. The corn bread mixed with the BBQ pulled pork and eggs + hollandaise sauce was the perfect combo. If I find myself back in SLC, I'll be sure to come back just for this dish. Servers were so friendly and prompt, taking great care of us. Don't miss this spot - just a short drive outside SLC!

The food here isn't anything special. It's slightly better than IHOP. The only thing that this restaurant has going for it is the outdoor seating scenery. The servers are pretty good, but my water was empty for the majority of my meal.

Lived in Utah all my life and I've never been here before, until a few weeks ago. What a fun and charming place to eat. The breakfast was awesome. We were out on the patio and it was perfect. Even had a cute squirrel roaming around. Definitely will be back.

My friends and I went here as a last meal to end our trip and it couldn't have been more of a cherry on top! I wish I could remember our waitresses name she was SUCH a sweetheart. In fact, all of the staff were warm and welcoming. The restaurant itself is in a scenic area. It has a cozy cabin feel. I got the eggs Benedict and we shared an order of the orange cream cheese cinnamon french toast. Both were amazing. The eggs were especially poached well. The hash browns were crispy and plentiful. The French toast was tangy and filling. Be wanted the portions are HUGE. We didn't do as much damage as we hoped. If I ever make it back to SLC, I will for sure make another visit.

Up Emigration Canyon a little ways, Ruth's Diner is simply iconic - operating since 1930. The history itself is reason to go and your table may well be in the old SLC Trolley car. The service was super friendly and fast: a nice casual spot. The food covers diner standards with *very* generous portions. It's only a few turns up the canyon from Sugar House, but seems to be almost set in another time. Head on up :)

My bf and I went for a fun brunch on a fall Saturday morning and, as expected, it was super busy. We were able to get seated immediately as long as we chose indoor seating, so we did. Honestly I think it would've been worth it to wait for the outdoor seating since it was relatively warm outside and the live music really set some vibes! As for food, we both got the eggs Benedict, but my bf got a regular and I got a pulled pork. He liked his, I really liked mine. Their pulled pork is delicious! I'm not sure I would say it's the best eggs Benedict I've had in this area, but it was definitely good. The hash browns were a little soggy, we wish they would've been crispier. I will say, we almost got full on just the biscuits with the raspberry jam on the table. Super good!

Ambiance is wild!! Nestled between mountains, I could only imagine how beautiful outside seating for dinners around sunset must be!. Waitress was absolutely lovely and the food did not disappoint. Did not taste like franchised food. Everything had a very authentic taste and the biscuits were even better I imagined!!

We were lucky to beat the lunch rush by arriving at 11:30am on a weekday and were seated immediately. With both breakfast and lunch, the menu is long. Because I wanted to eat one of the enormous flaky biscuits dropped off at our table (ZOMG), I opted for breakfast with the quiche of day (mushroom and artichoke). It comes with a generous fruit salad. Hubby went with the meatloaf burger for lunch. It was okay. The hot apple cider is sweet. Service was pretty fast, although we never felt rushed. Gender-segregated restrooms. Free parking lot. The main entrance is not wheelchair accessible, but the patio and rear entrance are.

I ordered two pancakes in a stack and was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to finish them because they were quite large! Needless to say... I finished with ease and was quite proud of myself! The pancakes were fresh, fluffy, and spongy. The perfect combination... Exactly what a pancake should be! My only regret is that I didn't try multiple flavors of cake cakes. Next time when I go back, I will try to diversify!

Endless refill on coffee that was unexpectedly excellent quality. No need to rely heavily on creamer to mask that burned taste from a communal, industrial pot. She advised us portions were large so we opted to split the pot of gold breakfast with half gravy and half chile verde. They plated it, as well as our split heavenly hot cakes, separately. We upgraded our pancakes to have bananas, caramel, and whipped cream, and they generously portioned said toppings on *both of our plates*. And holy god was that whipped cream delicious. I only wish their space was bigger and tables were less cramped, what with the plates, coffee cups, and sauces.

A Place That Fails on Every Level, Safety, Integrity, and Basic Care…read more I've eaten here multiple times and every visit left me, my friends and family feeling physically ill. Why? Because they use cheap low quality canola oil and it shows both on the palate and in the body. But the deeper issue isn't just what's in the food. It's what's rotting beneath the surface. A close friend of mine Brittney (17 and under age in this experience) reached out to the owner to explore a collaborative business opportunity. Instead of professionalism she was met with a shocking invitation to hot tub together. Completely inappropriate and wildly unprofessional. Even more disturbing are the longstanding sexual allegations against kitchen staff he's kept on for years. Employees are routinely fired often for things they didn't do while the owner claims surveillance cameras prove it. Yet those cameras never seem to catch actual wrongdoing. Convenient isn't it. Meanwhile he creates a culture of fear instability and dismissal. People are disposable. Boundaries are not respected whether in the kitchen or in conversation. This isn't just a bad dining experience. This is a pattern of neglect abuse of power and willful ignorance. I urge you support businesses that respect people, employees, customers and community. This is not one of them.

However, additional details create a loving connection - it's off-Broadway central location, the copper-paneled ceiling that mimics warm conversations in varied spaces (cocktail, chef's counter, expandable tables for groups, and outdoor), fresh, locally-sourced ingredients with service to match. It's the place where I had my first glass of Turley Zinfandel (education alongside), and the place I will always return for my favorite Wagyu Beef Stroganoff (a comfort from home, but upscale). This one delivered with large, firm, expertly seasoned portobello & forest mushrooms over wide, freshly handmade pappardelle pasta that soaks up rich beef stock (a touch of black pepper) blended with crème fraîche. A generous portion of wagyu is tender and rich. PRO TIP: Mix then let it sit & marinade a minute - flavor pays in dividends. For dessert, a Valhrona Chocolate Pudding topped with whip cream and Maldon flake salt - exquisite, but expensive. The texture is comforting and delicious - olive oil adds a lingering finish with slight fruit.

I informed her that we had a reservation under my name, John, but she simply looked at her list, seemed annoyed, and told us to wait anyway. While we were waiting, we watched several parties of two arrive after us with reservations at 8:10, 8:15, and even 8:20, and they were seated before us. After waiting about 20 minutes, I went back to ask how much longer it would be. I was told it would be another 20 minutes. I reminded Carleigh that we had a reservation, and her response was, "Oh, you did?" She then asked for my full name and phone number, looked up the reservation, apologized, and immediately escorted us to a table that appeared to have been ready the entire time. This was extremely frustrating and disappointing. Reservations are made so guests don't have to wait behind people who arrive later. It felt like our reservation had been completely ignored until I spoke up a second time. Whether this was poor organization or a lack of attention, the level of service at the front desk was unacceptable. We came looking forward to a nice family dinner, but the experience started with unnecessary frustration and left a very poor first impression. I sincerely hope additional training is provided so this doesn't happen to other guests.
