This is a unique, historic spot in a beautiful area. Unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience here: We came here as a graduation meal for a family member. My husband has dietary restrictions that make eating at diners difficult for him, but we were outvoted. Luckily there was one dish he could eat--the steak and eggs. The steak usually comes with teriyaki, but he asked for it without as he cannot have added sugars in his food. After a while, the servers/staff brought out half our food. The other half apparently wasn't in the system, so they had to retake half the table's orders. Meanwhile, my husband's steak was covered in teriyaki, so we had to ask for it to be remade. The rest of the food eventually came out, along with my husband's steak, which was once again covered in teriyaki sauce. They finally got it right on the third try, at which point everyone else was almost done eating. I got a turkey sandwich with pasta salad. The pasta salad was incredible, but the turkey sandwich was sadly bland. I couldn't even taste the mayonnaise. Overall, I don't see any reason we would ever come back.
Brunch in a trolly car - a unique experience with a delicious menu. Every dish comes with a Mile High biscuit which is heavenly. So fluffy and perfectly dense. Your taste buds get a treat right off the bat! I love the Pulled Pork Benedict. I am a big Eggs Benedict fan and was intriuqed by how unique this dish was. The corn bread mixed with the BBQ pulled pork and eggs + hollandaise sauce was the perfect combo. If I find myself back in SLC, I'll be sure to come back just for this dish. Servers were so friendly and prompt, taking great care of us. Don't miss this spot - just a short drive outside SLC!
My friends and I went here as a last meal to end our trip and it couldn't have been more of a cherry on top! I wish I could remember our waitresses name she was SUCH a sweetheart. In fact, all of the staff were warm and welcoming. The restaurant itself is in a scenic area. It has a cozy cabin feel. I got the eggs Benedict and we shared an order of the orange cream cheese cinnamon french toast. Both were amazing. The eggs were especially poached well. The hash browns were crispy and plentiful. The French toast was tangy and filling. Be wanted the portions are HUGE. We didn't do as much damage as we hoped. If I ever make it back to SLC, I will for sure make another visit.
Up Emigration Canyon a little ways, Ruth's Diner is simply iconic - operating since 1930. The history itself is reason to go and your table may well be in the old SLC Trolley car. The service was super friendly and fast: a nice casual spot. The food covers diner standards with *very* generous portions. It's only a few turns up the canyon from Sugar House, but seems to be almost set in another time. Head on up :)
Ambiance is wild!! Nestled between mountains, I could only imagine how beautiful outside seating for dinners around sunset must be!. Waitress was absolutely lovely and the food did not disappoint. Did not taste like franchised food. Everything had a very authentic taste and the biscuits were even better I imagined!!
My bf and I went for a fun brunch on a fall Saturday morning and, as expected, it was super busy. We were able to get seated immediately as long as we chose indoor seating, so we did. Honestly I think it would've been worth it to wait for the outdoor seating since it was relatively warm outside and the live music really set some vibes! As for food, we both got the eggs Benedict, but my bf got a regular and I got a pulled pork. He liked his, I really liked mine. Their pulled pork is delicious! I'm not sure I would say it's the best eggs Benedict I've had in this area, but it was definitely good. The hash browns were a little soggy, we wish they would've been crispier. I will say, we almost got full on just the biscuits with the raspberry jam on the table. Super good!
We were lucky to beat the lunch rush by arriving at 11:30am on a weekday and were seated immediately. With both breakfast and lunch, the menu is long. Because I wanted to eat one of the enormous flaky biscuits dropped off at our table (ZOMG), I opted for breakfast with the quiche of day (mushroom and artichoke). It comes with a generous fruit salad. Hubby went with the meatloaf burger for lunch. It was okay. The hot apple cider is sweet. Service was pretty fast, although we never felt rushed. Gender-segregated restrooms. Free parking lot. The main entrance is not wheelchair accessible, but the patio and rear entrance are.
Sausage & two scrambled eggs w a side of hash browns & smoked salmon omelette! Both were delicious. I love coming to this diner. The food is always great and service is excellent. We had Adam as our waiter and he is so KIND and helpful! He is exactly why people love coming to this diner, the staff is incredible.
Food quality: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Value: 5/5 The drive up the canyon is such a vibe especially during the fall with the colors changing. Today did not disappoint! We quickly got in and the hostess did give us a heads up that the outside tables have been getting bees/wasps and if we wanted to move inside, it would only be possible if tables were available and if it was before our food. We made the decision to stay inside and I'm glad we did. Our server was great! She was attentive and also could tell our group of 4 wanted to chat so she gave us a bit more time after our meal to finish our conversations which I appreciated. I forgot how delicious the free biscuits are with the raspberry jam that they give you upon sitting down. They're so good, fluffy and very filling. I got the 3 egg omelette (substitute egg whites) with spinach, mushroom, cheese and add hashbrowns. My husband got the chile verde omelette. Both omelettes were great!
What a great diner/cafe. You can take the measure of a food joint's menu by how well and different they do the staples you've been getting for decades. Like I've had hashbrowns all my life, but the hashbrowns here were fantastic. Loose and fresh, without the hard exterior crust that other restaurants like to do. The same too with their fish sandwich. I was kind of bummed that Red Trout is not a lunch option like it is for breakfast and dinner. But this sandwich was a nice substitute with its crispy but not too crispy batter and flaky interior. This was a good second choice. I like the aesthetics here too. It's got a good rustic and homey environment. And the service was pretty cool, even substituting fries for my beloved hash browns and checking up on us regularly. The best compliment I can give to this place is that this kind of place that I wish I had close to me. I'm always looking for solid diners near me and now I have the template for exactly what kind.
I love that this restaurant sits in the mountains and have a great outdoor patio seating so you can enjoy the fresh air surrounding you. It definitely gets busy for brunch if you want to sit outside, on a nice sunny warm day. Came to brunch with my family and we waited about 20 minutes which isn't bad. I got the burger, great size! I feel like it should have a special sauce and it would be a hit. Fries were perfect and crispy! I tried my nephews cinnamon French toast I believe and it was unbelievably delicious. I would definitely be back!
Great spot, got a table for 4 right away after walking in on a Sunday, ordered the pancakes scrambled eggs and hashbrowns. Loved the pancakes, the eggs tasted a little like powdered eggs but perhaps they added milk and I don't really mind that texture. Hashbrowns were also some of the best I've had at a diner. Would return!

I absolutely love Ruth's Diner. If you're looking to escape the city for a bit, this is the perfect spot. Nestled in beautiful Emigration Canyon, it offers a peaceful setting where you can sit by the creek, enjoy the fresh air, and savor a delicious meal. The ambiance is hard to beat.. relaxed, scenic, and full of charm. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it feels like a little getaway without having to travel far. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. Great food, beautiful surroundings, and a cozy atmosphere keep me coming back. This is one of my favorite places in the Salt Lake area. read more
Ruth's Diner offers one of the best outdoor dining areas I've come across in my 25 years of living in the SLC area. There's a back patio that's surrounded by trees offering ample shade and a quiet, pleasant dining experience (some nights during the summer there is live music). The menu boasts a variety of primarily American comfort foods (soups, steak, salmon, meatloaf, etc.), but salads and tacos are also options. And don't skimp on the dessert -- the chocolate malt pudding is famous and is quite tasty. The service was also terrific -- very friendly and attentive throughout! While it's a little out of the way to come regularly, I can definitely see myself putting this in the rotation of places to frequent, especially because of the ambiance. read more

Lived in Utah all my life and I've never been here before, until a few weeks ago. What a fun and charming place to eat. The breakfast was awesome. We were out on the patio and it was perfect. Even had a cute squirrel roaming around. Definitely will be back. read more
The food here isn't anything special. It's slightly better than IHOP. The only thing that this restaurant has going for it is the outdoor seating scenery. The servers are pretty good, but my water was empty for the majority of my meal. read more

Great spot! The food was really good and definitely bang for the buck. Service was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The ambiance and decor are exactly what you want in a classic diner--nostalgic and welcoming. Felt like stepping back in time in the best way. Would definitely come back! I got the flank steak and I should have read it better. But to be fair the item doesn't make sense. It just wasn't good. So the steak is really covered in teriyaki. And it's not like the no bettahs, it's super runny watery sauce and it didn't taste well. If it was a light drizzle it might have been better. Beside the dish the place is a great place to eat at with a good scenery. read more

Delicious mac 'n cheese plus a complimentary biscuit. This is one of my favorite comfort food diners in Salt Lake City. Plus, the staff are all so friendly. There's a reason this place is always busy. They must be doing something right since they've been around since 1930! read more
Always classic, Ruth's hits the spot. All of our entrees were spot on. Two challenges were 1- the biscuits were served with cold butter, couldn't spread it at all. 2- the waiters didn't really speak English. Definitely not the same top notch service but the food made up for it. read more

Charming diner that is beautiful both inside and outside. We sat indoors, which was very hot. We could see that the hostesses were on their phones 80% of the time that we dined in (not a good look). Our server seemed friendly but we noticed he didn't check in on us as often as other tables. So unfortunately, we didn't receive and couldn't ask for the raspberry jam (to pair with our biscuits) that was brought out to other tables right next to ours. It looked delicious and would've been nice to try as I'm reading now in other reviews that it's super delicious. Our portion sizes were large, but the food tasted bland and unseasoned. I think this diner brings a lot of nostalgia for folks, but the quality of food and service were lacking for us. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! With that said it has the best biscuits I ever had they are so fresh .. and I love the strawberry jam.. Service is always good .. I love that they have a patio (we all agree on that) their eggs Benedict are so good so far I have fried the pull pork and the CFS one.. both delicious., read more

I've decided my favorite things about Ruth's Diner is their patio and their breakfast. We visited for dinner and it was too windy for the patio and the dinner was so-so. The Roasted Red Pepper Hummus appetizer was the highlight. The turkey and avocado sandwich was bland and the fries weren't warm. The low-light was the Baked Macaroni and Cheese - it was tasteless and I would not order again. Next time I come back - I will make sure it's for breakfast and that the patio is available! read more

I've been going to Ruth's Diner since I was a child, and I have never left that restaurant hungry or disappointed. My boyfriend and I went for breakfast recently, and it was surprisingly not too busy. We were seated right away, and our server was friendly and cheerful. He got our coffee right away, which is always appreciated. The signature biscuits are fluffy and delicious, and even my boyfriend (who isn't a huge biscuit fan) enjoyed them. He ordered the breakfast combo with bacon and french toast, and I ordered the asparagus omelet. Everything was delicious and fresh. read more
We stopped by for breakfast at Ruth's Diner and had a hearty meal with friendly service. They gave us some complimentary biscuits which were really buttery, soft, and delicious. I devoured them in minutes! We got the Cinnamon Roll French Toast and the Sunrise Spuds. The cinnamon roll french toast was just as it sounds - it was a cinnamon roll in french toast form, served with little dollops of orange cream cheese. The sunrise spuds were hashbrowns with mushrooms, cheese, pico de gallo, and guacamole. Everything was tasty, served in large portions, and well-priced. read more
