Navy Beach is exactly what you expect from a restaurant/bar situated in an amazing location with impeccable views that doesn't have to try hard, or at all. People will continue to come back here time and again because the beach is lovely and offers a view of a perfect sunset. The first main issue at Navy Beach is the fact that they only have ONE dedicated ladies bathroom, with another being co-ed. This is completely insufficient for the crowds that gather. I spent most of my time here waiting for the restroom, with the lines being at least 20 women deep. I would have gladly used portapotties on the beach rather than spending 40 minutes just to use a toilet. There's no excuse! The other issue is the staff couldn't care less about their service. You want a drink, eh - maybe you'll get one. You want to order dinner? Maybe your server will come check on you to see if you're ready to order. There were no shits being given by any of the service staff here. The food was just okay, not worth the price tag. The drinks were okay, I stuck with beer. It was really underwhelming but let's be honest here. You don't come to Navy Beach for the food or the drinks - you come for the view. You come because there are tons of people here and if you're looking to hook up or something (that's what kids do these days, right?) then this is a good a spot as any in the area. Went here for this first time with a large party to celebrate my friend's birthday. Overall the food and drinks were good but I think the place is a bit overhyped and pricey. Two points that left a bad taste in my mouth were the following. The truffle mac and cheese advertised on the menu, to which we placed three orders did not contain even a whisper of truffle flavor. Additionally, the bucatini dish we received was clearly spaghetti. When asking the waiter about it, he seemed to brush off my comment, offering no explanation/solution. My two-star review should be read by anyone who plans to go to Navy Beach and actually wants to enjoy the experience, because I believe that is possible if you know the protocol. It's annoying that there even has to be a protocol, so if you don't like that sort of thing, I would eat elsewhere. If you want to overspend on food in Montauk and see the sunset eating mediocre food, then maybe East By Northeast is for you. Anywho, I will describe my experience and how you can avoid making the same error: *Booking: Obviously if you are going to Navy Beach, you want to eat on the beach. Why else would you go there? I made an Open Table reservation about 2 weeks prior to my visit (as early as a rez can be made) and I indicated in the notes that I wanted to sit outside. This doesn't mean sh*t to the hostess, she could care less if you had a long standing rez and if you said you wanted to sit outside because as she so rudely told me, "well, EVERYBODY wants to sit outside". So, to avoid being told that you have to wait 1.5 hours for an outside table, I recommended calling after you have booked and speaking to a human being so you can actually sit outside as soon as you get there. *Arriving: If your rez is at 6:30, you apparently need to arrive at 6:20. If you drive a BMW with a Sequential Manual Gearbox, you need to arrive at 6:15 because you will need to explain to the valet how to drive that type of transmission. We arrived at 6:30, taught the valet, then waited on a 15 minute line out the door to speak to the hostess (this was on a Tuesday, by the way). When we arrived at the hostess table at 6:45 and gave our name, the first thing she said verbatim was "Oh. I just no-showed you." I then had to explain to her that I arrived on time, but apparently she must be near-sighted and couldn't see the huge line of people standing behind me. We were then informed about the 1.5 hour wait for a table outside (as explained above). We decided to grab a cocktail at the bar and wait the 1.5 hours, and the hostess said they would "let us know when the table was ready." *Being shown to your table: By saying "let us know when the table was ready" what they really meant, but did not say, was "call your cellphone when the table is ready". Now, I know most everybody nowadays is attached to their phones like an appendage, but that's just not me. I'm the type of person who wants to enjoy my time with my fiance when out to eat. So when I sit on a bed on a beach in Montauk with a cocktail, it's not comfortable to have my phone in my pocket so I place it on the bed next to me. And since it's rude to have your ringer on, it's on vibrate. So naturally, if I'm not TOLD that I need to pay attention to my phone because the restaurant I'm at is going to *call* me, not *find* me, I'm not going to pay attention to the phone and I'm going to miss the call. But this is how it actually went - at 7:25 PM, while waiting on the beach with our cocktails, my fiance decides to go check on our status. She is told at the hostess stand that we still have another 30-45 minutes to wait. In the meantime, I took my phone out and notice the 2 missed calls from Navy Beach (at 7:23 and 7:24 PM). I call my fiance to let her know as she is in the middle of talking to the hostess. My fiance asks why they called me (and didn't leave a message) and the hostess THEN tells her that they had a table ready but gave it away when we didn't answer. My fiance flipped out, asked for the manager, who finally offered to make things right for us and give us the next free table outside. She also comped a round of drinks and some edamame for while we waited at the bar (since I had come to join my fiance during the melee, I gave up my seat outside). So we kind of missed the sunset, we had to take turns walking out to the deck to view it at 7:59 PM. We were finally seated after sunset at 8:10 PM (just shy of 2 hours after our original reservation). Here's the food review: Everything was actually pretty good...we weren't blown away by anything, so at those prices I don't think we would go back on subsequent visits to Montauk. The edamame is served in a sea-salt lime butter sauce, which is unique and very tasty. The crispy calamari was quite good, standard calamari. Cooked properly and with a good dipping sauce. The burger was extremely good, uniquely flavored with a nice marmalade, cheddar and tasty fries. The side of truffled mac and cheese was excellent but tiny. As is clear from my saga, the overall experience here was far from relaxing or enjoyable, but the manager did her best to make it right and did address the issues appropriately. Would I go back to Navy Beach again? For food, definitely not, especially at those prices. There are many other high end places in Montauk I'd go first. For a cocktail at sunset either before or after dinner somewhere else? I'd possibly return. read more

This is a restaurant solely for the view. The view is spectacular. It feels a bit like Nice with tables on a large pebbly beach. The servers are beyond mediocre. They are truly doing you a favor by serving you. The food is fair at best and expensive. We ordered the clam bake which had a 1/2 of a lobster, 2 shrimp, 4 mussels and 2 clams for $34 at lunch. At Bobby Vans, I ordered the Harry's Salad (which is spectacular) which was filled with shrimp for $17. The broth was too spicy with no real flavor. The crowd is very "Jersey Shore". In my opinion, The Surf Lodge may not be on the beach but the view is just as spectacular with better food and service. Come for a drink and then leave. read more

Probably would give only 2 stars if the view weren't so incredible. The food was average, but you're obviously not going there for the food, and service was slow but we expected that based on previous reviews. The biggest reason for 3 stars is that many of the waiters/waitresses were not properly wearing their masks. They also said that you must wear a mask when not at your table, yet I saw multiple people up and around, talking to staff or using the restroom without wearing a mask, and no one from the restaurant stopped them or told them to put one on. I am giving Navy Beach 2 stars for the spectacular sunset. The rest of our experience at Navy Beach was terrible. First off, let me say I am a Johnson and Wales graduate, so I tend to be fussy at restaurants. I may be fussy, but I always try to be fair. I was very disappointed in my dining experience here. The drinks were watered down... disappointing ... We ordered a wide variety of food to be shared by our 6 person party. The Crispy Calamari Salad, Bikram Grain Salad, Rigatoni Alle Melanzane, Parm Fries, Truffled Mac, and Salmon Crudo. Honestly, there was not one dish I would order again. The food was ... disappointing ... The service was terrible. They would pick up the plates before everyone was finished at the table and there was still food left in the bowls, so you got the feeling you were being rushed. I was served coffee, it was cold, and was not offered a refill. The service was ... very ... disappointing... Last but not least, we were seated at one of the premium tables outside. There were children nearby (apparently belonging to guests of the restaurant) throwing rocks on the beach. They were not being watched closely and one of the rocks almost hit my friend in the head. Clearly these children needed to be looked after ... this behavior is inappropriate when in a restaurant where the price of a steak entree is $54.00 Not impressed Navy Beach, I will not be back. read more

First time in Montauk and heard so much about this place. Too bad it's more of a scenic view during lunch rather than a dinner meal.. We came late at night right before 10, not knowing that he kitchen was closing (our bad), and they were nice enough to seat us. We ordered the grilled artichoke as an app. Not really worth it. It wasn't interesting enough to make it worth the trouble it takes to eat an artichoke. We also ordered the broccolini as a side dish. It was too tough for our liking and had too much oil on it. For the main, we ordered the steak medium well and the Catalan Suqut (decent). The $54 steak came out burnt! We sent it back and seeing as it really didn't seem worth the time or trouble to wait for another one, we denied a new one. They offered us salad since the kitchen was basically closed at that point. The butter lettuce salad was good and the manager took the steak off the bill, but he didn't offer anything else to make us want to come back. Moral of the story: go there to see the sunset and have drinks. The food isn't anything to brag about. read more

Terrible- Its one of the only ways to describe this place! Terrible service, terrible food, and terrible staff. I cannot actually remember having a worse experience at this restaurant. If you are like me and read reviews before attending a restaurant then definitely take note - DO NOT DO IT! I have visited Navy Beach before for a sunset drink and I did actually quite enjoy this at the time, so decided to book a table the next time I visited Montauk. We booked our table well in advance and specifically requested an outside table. We were told this was locked in and was all but 100% certain except in the case of rain where we could be moved inside. When we arrived at Navy Beach on a busy Saturday night they sat us in the back inside, and when we asked if we could speak to a manager about this mix up - the manager gracefully told us "we could sit inside or leave" - what a way to speak to paying customers! As it was a 2 hour wait for a table by this time and we saw many other angry customers whose reservation had been lost completely we begrudgingly sat down. We ordered and told our waitress that we wanted to run outside for a sunset photo (since we were not outside as planned). Upon returning, she scorned us and spoke to us like children and told us we were "not allowed" to move anywhere during service in case our food came and got cold .That eas ironic as after this, our food took an hour to come and when it did arrive it was cold! While we were waiting we had to get up and literally search for a waiter to get us another bottle of wine (which also took at least half hour to arrive). When the food did arrive it was cold and bland - small mussels that seemed like they had been sitting in the freezer for months and easily the most tasteless salmon tartare I have ever eaten. The crab cake was dry and bland and our fish was overcooked. We didn't bother sending the food back - namely because there was no waiter or waitress in sight and we did not want the effort of spending our dinner searching for them like we did for drinks. Another noteable turn-off is the toilet line- 2 bathrooms for over a hundred people means every time you need to go there it is a MINIMUM half hour wait! What a waste of your night, by the time you finish you almost need to head to the back of the line again! In the end we could not wait to leave - the whole experience was actually upsetting, especially the way the manager and staff treated us. During the night we only saw other upset patrons, and the manager really being nasty to all of them. Needless to say, I left the smallest tip I have ever given and felt they were lucky to get that. I will not be back, not even for drinks - and I will continue to encourage others not too either. I have been a regular at Navy Beach since the year after they opened, and it pains me to write how poor the service and food is this summer. It has always been a pleasure to visit this establishment, but I have never been treated so poorly by rude staff as last week. My friends and I who are all professional adults felt like we were in the twilight zone from beginning to end on a recent afternoon visit. The hostesses at the podium and bartenders were completely unprofessional and unfriendly. The angry bi-polar female bartender needs to go. She is scary and mentally disturbed. When serving customers (mainly from NYC) over priced food and drink, it should at least come with a smile otherwise why would they come back?! From someone who worked in the service industry for 2 decades, I was disgusted by how we were spoken to, and to top it off their food has become terrible. 3 people in my party did not like any of our appetizers or entrees, and barely ate a thing. The server did not even ask if there was an issue when clearing the full plates. We will maybe return later this summer, but just to enjoy the beautiful sunset view and possibly a glass of wine. The lobster roll was unusual with several small pieces of lobster served dry on a stale hot dog bun with a small side of cole slaw and french fries. My wife wanted to substitute the fries for a baked potato, salad or something that wasn't so "greasy" but they said absolutely no. Please tell me what restaurant doesn't allow substitutions for a side dish such as french fries? Even McDonalds or Wendy's allows for side salad---I guess a $31 lobster roll doesn't qualify. I gave two stars solemnly for the atmosphere! Absolutely the best day drinking view - yachts and water, and tables and comfortable seating! Our waitress was so rude to us out-of-towners. I was so turned off from the place from our waitresses attitude. We had had a late brunch, then left the house and went directly for acai bowls as a pit stop, on the way to Navy Beach, so not many of us were too hungry. A couple of us had made a comment we were only thinking of ordering French fries, and our waitress so rudely said we couldn't just order snacks, we had to order full meals. Which I understand if that's a rule. But she could have handled it in a much nicer manner than she did. This place is all about the location. It's on the bay side of the north fork of MTK, so it's tucked away on a residential road that most folks would not venture down, otherwise. It is literally right on the water, which is great, particularly at sunset. Otherwise, I wasn't too thrilled about the staff or the other patrons. The prices are a lot higher than most other places in town and it seems to cater to the fabulous set who really should be in the Hamptons and not MTK, anyway. Just my opinion, of course. This is a great place for having a cocktail and enjoying a beautiful view, but not a place for a meal. It was during lunch time and only outside seating are kind of filling (not full). There are only two waiters, and it took almost 20 minutes to take an order. I ordered whole fish dish, hubby got fried chicken, and friend couple got skate dish. As the waiter described the whole fish dish, he mentioned it is crispy, but never said "Deep Fried". I guess most of people in this country prefer to eat a whole fish in deep fried. Not only I but also my hubby and friends thought that the whole fish is grilled and its skin is crispy. So, we are totally misinformed, and no apology from the restaurant. The whole fish was $43 or $45, and I had to peel off the skin to eat the fish!!! The fried chicken was dry, and my hubby didn't satisfied.... I'm going to have to agree with everyone that the sunset is GORGEOUS!!!! Love the location because it's definitely tucked at the end of a residential area away from the other restaurants with the big crowds. I wonder how people knew about this place....I only knew because an ex of mine use to work there. Now, there's mandatory valet. I was talking to one of the valet people (he was so friendly) and I was told that you don't even have to tip them. There's only madatory valet since it gets very crowded. To be honest, I happen to like valet. Obviously the men are qualified for the job and it beats having to look for a parking spot. The restaurant itself is huge! There's indoor dining and outside dining in which there's picnic tables with umbrellas right on the beach. That means that you would be eating on the sand. So yes....keep that in mind if you want to eat outside. As you eat dinner, you could actually watch the sunset. It's beautiful....very romantic. One thing I noticed about the restaurant, the staff is just so pretty. LOL I love their uniforms that say ,"pick your poison." But anyways, I really thought the staff was super nice and very accommodating. The only thing is, they're a little too quick to clear the table which annoys me. Food wise, well....it was good. It's almost like one of those restaurants in which you leave feeling hungry. Drinks were expensive. Mojitos are $10, but they're in old- fashioned glasses which are pretty damn small. Food portions are small as well, except for the entrees. They were a decent size. To be honest, the the whole menu is pretty expensive. The quality of the food does not falter, but the prices are upsetting. If you're paying for a $40 steak special, you want to be woahed, and I unfortunately I wasn't. We asked the hostess if we could be seated outside but were told that we could only sit there for an hour because of reservations (even though they told me by phone that they don't take outdoor reservations). We were taken to a small table next to the bar with absolutely no view of the beach - we asked if we could be seated in the dining room with glass walls and wonderful views. We were told that the manager would not allow her to seat anyone in the dining room until 5 PM (even though there was a party of 4 enjoying a meal there). The setting is beautiful, which is just about the only reason to come here. I'm really not sure what makes the waitstaff at some dining establishment in montauk so miserable. My best guess is that they're outlandishly rude and Unaccommodating simply because they can be - there is no shortage of clientele in Montauk given the train and carloads of people carted out there every weekend. Booking a reservation for 14 people at navy beach was unpleasant from the get go. The woman I spoke on the phone with was impatient and ill tempered. I had to follow up 3 times to confirm that shed received the paperwork required to complete the reservation before finally hearing back. I have a full time job- Would be great if other people could do their jobs too. I have been to montauk enough to expect some difficulty with large parties--but once my party of 14 arrived, they tried seating us all at a table that could comfortably fit 8 people. When we asked to be moved to a larger table so that we could all sit and eat a meal, we were led to a lounge area (not at all conducive to eating dinner) where we were told we had a $1500 minimum. There was no flexibility at all here despite the fact that we had booked a table for 14 with agreed upon pricing. We ended up stuffing all 14 people around one picnic table and we were only somewhat comfortable when two people from our party decided to bail. Definitely a shame we had to watch two friends leave in order for the rest of us to have dinner. From there, we waited a good 15 minutes before a server came to bring Menus and take drink orders. This seemed deliberate to me. It can be your birthday, anniversary, any special occasion-- and these people have no problem screwing your party over and ruining your evening. The worst part is that the person we dealt with was so entirely unapologetic. Would love to know how the woman managing the floor that night has a job. read more

My boyfriend and I thought this was the best meal we had in Montauk. Firstly, the restaurant is located right on the beach, very peaceful and relaxing view of the sunset. You have a choice to eat outside or in...the room is decorated with 50's bathing suits, Naval flags and nautical decor that was very pleasing. Fish tacos were amazing...fish was very fresh and portions were substantial. Coffee rubbed filet mignon was nothing special. Again, the mood was laid back yet sophisticated....families and singles were having a great time taking in the sunset and enjoying their dinner. WE went there for Father's Day dinner this weekend, The sunset was beautiful but that and the the family were almost the only nice things about the Navy Beach experience. We were seated immediately and the service was quick but very clumsy. The waiter would bring clam chowder soup (which was good) without bread or saltines (holding the soup dish with his fingers in the dish..). Later the cake desert was served without any forks. The food was so-so but since the potions were small we did not suffer so much... My Seafood and Chips dish was more fried oil and less seafood... As for the "entertainment" ....it was awful, a real torture to hear a so called reggae band with a singer who appeared to be tone deaf. For all this, the cost was fairly high. Pass this place if you go to Montank. Average food horrible service. Waited over an hour for a burger. When I complained they stated that the kitchen couldn't handle the crowd. There were empty tables! Told them yo keep the burgers and walked out. read more

I visited Navy Beach in late August 2020 to celebrate my cousins birthday, and I was delayed due to traffic; I spoke to "Frank" on the phone who accommodated our party and moved our reservation without any hiccup. 1 star for that. The location of this restaurant, on the water, with beautiful lighting, 1 star for that. Polite staff, decent classic American food, clean bathrooms and an overall nice picturesque spot, 1 star for that. I'm bummed that we didn't get a table outside after many requests when there was a spot available - (Minute 1 star for that) and when we got to the venue the hostess told us that there is no one by the name of Frank and that staff gives out different names (Minus 1 star for that). Id hate to do this , but after last WEEKS incident we will never come back. Every year we as a family come to montauk and navy beach has been our always dinner spot to enjoy a beautiful sunset and have a great dinner. Due to covid they are only taking reservations no walkins this year, no problem. I had called when they first opened to get a reservation for 7 and my options were 5 or 815, we chose 815. At around 715ish a fast strong thunderstorm had come through so it was great that we had an indoor reservation. My husband had gotten a text notifying him that our table would be ready in 30 mins. We had showed up at 810 and my motherinlaw gave our name to the hostess only to be told our reservation had been canceled due to the storm and we had recieved an email saying it was read??? 1 they dont have his email address and 2 why would our reservation be canceled on the fact our reservation was inside. Not for nothing that was a bogus lie being, my family owns a restaurant and when your reservation is canceled out of the computer system you automatically GET A TEXT TO FOLLOW THROUGH with the cancelation. Then her story changed again to "your reservation had been canceled due to it being a large party and we cant accomidate it" even though it clearly states on the website it they can take parties of 10 max. She then said your reservation got changed to a day bed?? Ok pick a believable story and stick to it, like we overbooked shame on us?? My MIL had gotten so fed up the hostess, the hostess who clearly didnt want to be bothered anymore said "if you dont like it go somewhere else"? I can go on so much more about lastnight, but bottom line shame on their hostess and management for even allowing a person like that to work there. All I can say is that so sorry you lost out on an easy $700.00 + check, I guess the pandemic didnt hurt you that bad. read more
