The setting is beautiful, which is just about the only reason to come here. I'm really not sure what makes the waitstaff at some dining establishment in montauk so miserable. My best guess is that they're outlandishly rude and Unaccommodating simply because they can be - there is no shortage of clientele in Montauk given the train and carloads of people carted out there every weekend. Booking a reservation for 14 people at navy beach was unpleasant from the get go. The woman I spoke on the phone with was impatient and ill tempered. I had to follow up 3 times to confirm that shed received the paperwork required to complete the reservation before finally hearing back. I have a full time job- Would be great if other people could do their jobs too. I have been to montauk enough to expect some difficulty with large parties--but once my party of 14 arrived, they tried seating us all at a table that could comfortably fit 8 people. When we asked to be moved to a larger table so that we could all sit and eat a meal, we were led to a lounge area (not at all conducive to eating dinner) where we were told we had a $1500 minimum. There was no flexibility at all here despite the fact that we had booked a table for 14 with agreed upon pricing. We ended up stuffing all 14 people around one picnic table and we were only somewhat comfortable when two people from our party decided to bail. Definitely a shame we had to watch two friends leave in order for the rest of us to have dinner. From there, we waited a good 15 minutes before a server came to bring Menus and take drink orders. This seemed deliberate to me. It can be your birthday, anniversary, any special occasion-- and these people have no problem screwing your party over and ruining your evening. The worst part is that the person we dealt with was so entirely unapologetic. Would love to know how the woman managing the floor that night has a job. read more

WE went there for Father's Day dinner this weekend, The sunset was beautiful but that and the the family were almost the only nice things about the Navy Beach experience. We were seated immediately and the service was quick but very clumsy. The waiter would bring clam chowder soup (which was good) without bread or saltines (holding the soup dish with his fingers in the dish..). Later the cake desert was served without any forks. The food was so-so but since the potions were small we did not suffer so much... My Seafood and Chips dish was more fried oil and less seafood... As for the "entertainment" ....it was awful, a real torture to hear a so called reggae band with a singer who appeared to be tone deaf. For all this, the cost was fairly high. Beautiful location on the beach with a fiery sunset as a backdrop. We shared starters: calamari, edamame and pan fried peppers. All was overly salty and while good, nothing marked them out as unique in flavour/taste. Mains we mainly opted for the tile fish in red curry, Dad had seared scallops and mum the lobster bake of course! The red curry wasn't authentic Thai curry, bud didn't pretend to be. The curry sauce portion was a drizzle and we had to order more. Ideal for someone who fancies an exotic flavour without the chilli. The sushi rice though was almost crunchy. Not sure what happened but wasn't good at all! This could have been an amazing dish but didn't quite make it. Lobster bake was a good portion with a whole lobster, and a mix of clams and prawns. Seared scallops was almost like a paella and was gobbled up fast! These 2 dishes were successes! The parmigiana fries were morish (I want more!) so forget the calories when you dive in! The chocolate mousse dessert was excellent, not too rich with white chocolate in the middle. Great setting, great wine choices and an easy choice for dining. read more

You go here for ambiance. The backyard is lovely... and if you can eat in the back outside, even better. We had to wait 45 minutes for a table inside, so we sat in the backyard on the adirondack chairs and got to witness a pink Montauk sunset. The food was pretty good. We ordered various appetizers and such, nothing was too memorable and the only thing that was not good was the crab cake. I wouldn't return for the food, but I would return. Does that make sense? There are few spots that have the ambiance, feel, that Navy Beach has in Montauk. There were a lot of families and it was not a "scene" like other spots where bottle service is required, etc... Beautiful location on the beach, fantastic decor, service issues. I was so impressed by the outdoor dining area, with comfy lounge chairs, stylish decor, and the cushions on the beach. My fish was not fully cooked, however, it was quite raw (raw, not rare) in some sections. The portion was a very thick cut of fish, which is tricky to cook. I ate around it rather than sending it back - simply because service was so slow, and I didn't have to time to wait; but that was my choice. I came on a foggy weeknight evening, and the place was empty. There were three cars in the parking lot, and yet I was forced to do valet parking. Why can't I park my own car? I can see the need for valet on busy weekend nights, but this was not a busy weekend night. I walked up to the hostess (why is the hostess all the way in the back by the bathrooms, past the bar?) and asked for a specific window seat in the bar area, overlooking the patio. She gave me a hard time. The place was practically empty, and she was giving me a hard time about my selection of dining tables. She finally agreed it actually made the most sense, and seated me. My waiter did not appear for quite some time after that. After my meal, I waited 20 minutes for the bill. Finally, I was fed up, and walked over to the hostess and paid my bill at the hostess stand. Despite my problems with the place (raw fish, slow service, rude hostess), do you know annoyed me most about Navy Beach? The speed bumps on the street in front of the condos right before the restaurant! I know there is nothing the restaurant can do about that. The speed bumps are entirely too high, and too many of them; bottoming out your car going very, very slowly over them. I suppose the condos installed these to get back at the loud bar with its loud drunks screeching past their once peaceful waterfont heaven. I really don't need to be bumping over these things with my Audi, and truthfully, as petty as this sounds, I would seriously consider not returning for this reason! My meal came to $53 with wine, tax, and tip. If the service and cooking issues could be resolved, this could be a spectacular dining place. read more

Really nice sunset but most of the dishes we ordered tasted awful. The fish stew was really bland and the jumbo shrimp did not taste fresh. The tile fish was okay. The curry paste in the sause was to thick. The papedelle pasta was bland and tasteless. The kale salad lacked seSoning too. The tuna appetizer sauce was just off the mark too. The highlights were the French fries and the rock shrimp. Two stars for ambience and drinks. Also there are 5-6 hostesses at the front that play games with everyone's reservation. I saw them on several occasions tell people that there was a 2.5 hour wait outside for the reservation they made just so they would sit inside. Regardless about what people feel towards the food, staff, crowds etc. one thing that cannot be denied is the amazing sunsets here (you should come here for this alone). The sunsets here are absolutely breathtaking. You can order drinks at the bar and have seats outside on the benches or if you are lucky can snag one of the bed / couches. If you do decide to catch the sunset here, be sure to get here early for a seat or good spot on the beach (this place fills up fast, especially during warm summer days). As for the service/food, I recommend going elsewhere unless you can manage to get a seat along the windows. The food is good (not great) but priced a bit high for what you get. read more

To start, Navy Beach is a beautiful setting on the Long Island sound. As a long time resident, I was thrilled to see an upscale place serving cocktails and delicious seeming food. Unfortunately, our dreams of a bar with gustatory excitement fell flat. A hippie friend of mine once postulated that calamari was made of pigs anus, and until I had the calamari at Navy Beach, I had poo poo'ed this idea. The calamari was the blandest excuse for a seafood dish I have ever experienced. The fish was lukewarm at best and accompanied by a large frisée salad dressed exclusively with jarred sweet chili sauce. When our cocktails arrived I hoped for respite. They were mixer heavy but tasty and who can complain about that on a warm July day? Our second dish was the Tuna poke-like dish. While the tuna seemed fresh, it was basically shredded flesh. It was topped with a yummy cucumber salad and ripe avocado but the compliments ended with the stale crispy rice atop. Unfortunately the starters were too dismal to encourage an entree, but maybe next time we're in for a fruity drink and pig parts we will find our way back. read more

I visited Navy Beach in late August 2020 to celebrate my cousins birthday, and I was delayed due to traffic; I spoke to "Frank" on the phone who accommodated our party and moved our reservation without any hiccup. 1 star for that. The location of this restaurant, on the water, with beautiful lighting, 1 star for that. Polite staff, decent classic American food, clean bathrooms and an overall nice picturesque spot, 1 star for that. I'm bummed that we didn't get a table outside after many requests when there was a spot available - (Minute 1 star for that) and when we got to the venue the hostess told us that there is no one by the name of Frank and that staff gives out different names (Minus 1 star for that). Id hate to do this , but after last WEEKS incident we will never come back. Every year we as a family come to montauk and navy beach has been our always dinner spot to enjoy a beautiful sunset and have a great dinner. Due to covid they are only taking reservations no walkins this year, no problem. I had called when they first opened to get a reservation for 7 and my options were 5 or 815, we chose 815. At around 715ish a fast strong thunderstorm had come through so it was great that we had an indoor reservation. My husband had gotten a text notifying him that our table would be ready in 30 mins. We had showed up at 810 and my motherinlaw gave our name to the hostess only to be told our reservation had been canceled due to the storm and we had recieved an email saying it was read??? 1 they dont have his email address and 2 why would our reservation be canceled on the fact our reservation was inside. Not for nothing that was a bogus lie being, my family owns a restaurant and when your reservation is canceled out of the computer system you automatically GET A TEXT TO FOLLOW THROUGH with the cancelation. Then her story changed again to "your reservation had been canceled due to it being a large party and we cant accomidate it" even though it clearly states on the website it they can take parties of 10 max. She then said your reservation got changed to a day bed?? Ok pick a believable story and stick to it, like we overbooked shame on us?? My MIL had gotten so fed up the hostess, the hostess who clearly didnt want to be bothered anymore said "if you dont like it go somewhere else"? I can go on so much more about lastnight, but bottom line shame on their hostess and management for even allowing a person like that to work there. What makes this place great is the beach setting, laid back decor, views and...that's where it ends. We arrived at 11:55 for our 12:00 lunch reservation. The hostess said they weren't ready but meanwhile took larger parties that arrived after us. 10-15 min later she seated us! We were the only ones to sit inside. We ordered and shared 2 small dishes-- the fish tacos and the ribs and 2 iced coffees. The big feature on the dessert menu-- the peanut butter bomb-- they were out of apparently since last night. Our bill with tip came to $50. The food was just ok but the setting was delightful. I can see how it would be fun for drinks and large crowds on a weekend night but it is not worth it for an out of the way lunch. read more

Truffle Mac, and Mary's Papadelle rounded out the night. After dinner a beautiful sunset posed for pictures as we lounged on the bean bags tossed along the shoreline - hard to get up and leave. This place had an overload of awesome restaurant potential but unfortunately failed to deliver it all. Let me expand - the Navy Beach restaurant is situated in the middle of nowhere, basically, down a small road that is truly off the beaten path of Montauk. When you get there, you struggle to find a parking spot and, in the process of doing so, nearly run over about three people. Extremely cramped parking situation they've got going on here. Once we got into the restaurant, I was significantly impressed by the ambiance they had going on. The bar area is gorgeous, a lounge-y feel with big mirrors and bottle-themed stained glass. The sound system pumps out progressive house music and for a moment I felt I was back home in some trendy LES bar in Manhattan. We had a few minutes to spare in there, and were then seated as per our reservation (which I'll touch on later). Menu is small but extremely diverse. Lobster ceviche for appetizer and fried chicken for dinner? Hell yeah, sign me up. On that note, the ceviches are freakin' awesome. Truly an expensive indulgence but one worth it nevertheless. After realizing they were out of the fried chicken (aww) I ordered standard Montauk linguini and red clam sauce, spiced up with some chorizo and large chunks of juicy tomatoes. It was delicious but nothing special, as I totally thought it would be. The menu really looks like everything is going to modern and "new" spins on everything, but in reality, it didn't really feel that way. By this time, it was after 8:00, the sunset came out. OMFG. I have never seen a sunset like that, ever. If you have a window table, you are in for the one of the craziest experiences of your beachgoing life. People immediately gravitate towards the outdoor patio (which is just a hang-out spot, no tables) to take photos. Desserts were nothing special, I had a key-lime tart (my absolute favorite) and was largely unimpressed. Overall, this was an interesting dining experience and the sunset is awesome, but you can experience pretty much the same thing on another location on the beach without eating at the restaurant. It is a very expensive restaurant and I didn't feel I really got my money's worth, I could've easily ate just as delicious food somewhere else in Montauk. I wouldn't come out of my way to eat here again. Note on reservations - this is an insanely popular place now, and they do not take reservations more than a week in advance. That being said, if you want to go, call exactly 7 days before your desired date or you will probably find yourself out of luck. read more

Sun and being stress-free definitely puts me in a good (reviewing) mood. So my opinion about this place might be rather biased since I was able to lounge around at this chic eatery cleverly disguised as a beach, and tucked away in a little corner of Montauk and that's light years away from all the clamor and bustle of the city. The bar has fabulously priced drinks all around ~$5 for a draft and ~$8 for a cocktail. Try the strawberry mojito, great of quenching thirst out in the hot sun. Outdoor seating is a must for all you sun-lovers and you can take a quick dip in the ocean while you wait for your food. Be cautious that this beach is rather rocky and not a place for you to run amok without your flip-flops on. Service is pretty slow, not sure if our blonde waitress was giving us the eye-roll underneath her Ray-Bans but our order took about 45 minutes to be released from the kitchen and water refills were scarce. Blondie was nowhere to be seen when we wanted an extra fork or bottle of Heinz. The food however was surprisingly delicious and the menu included a variety of seafood: from tuna tartare salad (tiny portion) to scallops on a bed of greens, to a rather expensive $37 lobster roll. There was limited non-seafood and veggie options: only their signature burger for those that eschew fish and the truffle mac-n-cheese for our cow-friendly friends. I definitely recommend the truffle mac-n-cheese, mexican corn, calamari and tuna tartare. Stay away from the fihs-n-chips, it's a fried, artery-clogging mess. All the menu items are a tad on the expensive side but by the time our $600+ bill came (we had a party of 10), we were all so imbibed with rum that we happily forked the money over. After commenting on a missing appetizer she told us it would be right out... it never came and wasn't even on the check. I asked for my drink not once not twice but three times... each time after asking our drunken waitress replied with a smile and "right away". One time she even came back with drinks we never even mentioned. We also asked for our check three times. The last time our waitress approached the table and said "can i get you anything else"... she had already said this twice. We showed up here Friday night for a late dinner. We got there a little after 10 and the kitchen was closing at 10:30, so we made our food and drink decisions pretty quick. We didn't have the option to sit outside, since it was so late, but it was also crazy foggy so I'm sure we would not of had a good view anyway. We got a bottle of Rose, and went with something from Long Island's Northfork. I forget the name of it, but it was good and decently priced. Then we split a couple small plates and got 3 entrees to share between the four of us. We got the mussels and crispy rock shrimp to begin with. Both were good! The sauce with the shrimp had a good kick, and the shrimp were good, not too greasy for being fried. The sauce with the mussels was really good, and they gave us a bunch of bread to dip in it. For our mains we got the pasta dish, scallops and the burger. All of it was great, and plenty of food, we couldn't even eat all of it! The pasta was pretty light actually and served with veggies. The scallops were cooked perfectly! The burger was also really good. It had a bacon-onion marmalade on top, soo good! The fries were nice and crispy, but it was too much food and a lot of them got left behind unfortunately. We skipped dessert, since we were so stuffed, but decided to stick around for one more bottle of wine before heading out. I felt a tiny bit bad a one point when I realized we were the only people there and probably holding them up from leaving, but they didn't say anything or make us feel awkward about it. We finished up the wine and left with the rest of the staff. Overall food was really good! I think it's supposed to have a really nice view, so it would have been nice if we were there on a better night and could actually see.
