Dear Management, I am sorry to inform you that I had the most appalling dining experience at your restaurant over the weekend. I have eaten at Navy Beach many times over the last 4 years and have referred many people to your restaurant - needless to say, it is one of my favorites. I would also like to mention that I hardly write reviews but feel compelled to do so because it was the worst restaurant experience of my entire life. My boyfriend is in the restaurant industry and manages several upscale restaurants in the city, so I certainly sympathize with those working in this industry and give people the benefit of the doubt. I hope this email will help you to improve, so that this does not happen to guests in the future and you keep your positive reputation. Below are specific details on my experience. My friend made a reservation for 4 people at 7:45p this past Saturday, July 11th. She called twice to confirm the reservation after the initial call - first to change the number of guests and second to confirm (again) that we could reserve a table for outside. The hostess she spoke to guaranteed a table outside (for the second time), weather permitting, but did not at all mention that seating was first come, first serve. Obviously Navy Beach is known for the outside seating option, so we wanted to ensure this was possible, otherwise we would have 1) arrived early, 2) gone somewhere else or 3) expected the possibility of sitting inside. Regardless, a very rude hostess and manager told this was not an option, nor did they ever reserve tables for outside and that the wait for an outside table was over 2 hours. We assured him that we were told on the phone this was guaranteed and he said that is simply not possible because the restaurant never reserves tables for outside. We were escorted to our table inside and sat. Shortly after, we noticed a table half full outside and I asked the guests if they had room to share, but they ensured me that this table was reserved for a reservation, but they were being allowed to sit until they came in a half an hour. So, come to find out, you do take reservations for outside, but apparently we were not privileged enough. My friend who made the reservation brought this to the manager's attention and he yelled at her saying, "EITHER STAY OR LEAVE... DO YOU WANT TO STAY OR LEAVE?!" She was obviously shaken and horrified to be spoken to this way, but unfortunately we decided to stay because it was after 8pm on a busy weekend in the summer. We received our wine and ordered a few starters with our waitress, then stepped outside to enjoy the view and for a quick photo (which is the entire reason we came to the restaurant in the first place). We were outside for 10 minutes max and came back inside to be reprimanded by our waitress, who demanded that we do not get up from our table for the rest of service. I would not normally get up from a table during service, but I explained to her that we were supposed to sit outside and she could not have cared less. We were reviewing the menu and she asked us several times if we could place our orders and that the kitchen needs the entire order at once. I understood, but explained that we really did not want all of our dishes coming at once because we were planning on eating family style and ordered many items for the table. Only 10 minutes passed after placing our order and every single dish we ordered showed up to the table at once - we could not even fit everything on the table. After taking our order/receiving the food, the waitress literally disappeared and we had to track her down to order another bottle of wine, get clean glasses (some of us were switching wine) and to re-explain that we asked for the food to be coursed out, but she simply did not want to be bothered. Half way through our dinner, one of our friends left the table to use the rest room and was away for over 30 minutes because the bathroom line was wrapped around the outside of the restaurant. We were saving food for her on the table and one dish that was only 1/4 eaten was taken off the table before we could say anything. I could continue to go on with more terrible details, but I think you understand how bad it was. On our way out (and after waiting in the bathroom line for 45 minutes), a friend and I went outside to take a walk and have a private conversation, we were walking toward the parked cars behind the restaurant and were stopped by one of the parking lot attendants, Harris. He blocked our way and said that we could not walk back there, then proceeded to suggest that he be "taken care of" for this mishap. I asked him if he was asking for money and he said, no and that he was thinking of something else, which insinuated something incredibly inappropriate. As a woman, I was very uncomfortable, and to be honest I nearly reported him to the police for harassment. Food acceptable but we were treated rudely. Told by waiter our table was needed so we'd have to finish soon. We, a table of 4, were only there 1 hour before we started being rushed. One person in our party was still eating from his plate and a waiter swished the plate away. Our friend said, "Wait!" And the server apologized. Not sure what vibe they're going for (formal, casual, family-friendly), so that may throw some people off. Kind of a downer, so hope that tip helps! *If you want to sit on the sand, by the water, make a special request for it. **Outside seating for meals gets you all drinks in plastic cups I actually came here with my wife for our two year wedding anniversary dinner. Decided to try a new spot, since we're out in Montauk for most of the summer. We went to the bar for some drinks first: -"Old Montauk Highway" - spot on -"Fort Pond" - AWFUL; multiple people order this drink due to how it looks on paper, but something doesn't mix well. It's rosè, Grey Goose l'Orange, Cucumber -- my wife hated it. They were gracious enough to give us another drink instead. The bartender also said no one likes it (so why keep it on the list?) +Wine selection: Nice list, definitely on the pricier and marked up side. +Appetizer: Fried calamari - a classic; a BIT over crunchy, but the spicy-sweet sauce the calamari were in made up for it. Very tasty +Entree: Pappardelle pasta with greens; tasty, a BIT on the cooler side and definitely dry; the veggies added some good texture. read more

Rude service by teenage waitresses that should probably learn their manners before dealing with clients. Was very disappointed by the entire experience. Made a reservation and was told only indoor seating was available for 5 pm or 9 pm. We took the early reservation for inside and when we arrived we were told by the very dismissive hostess that we can eat outside if we finish in an hour. However, throughout our dinner we saw empty tables. After deciding to sit inside, the entire staff was sitting at a near by table cleaning utensils, eating, and laughing. While ordering drinks, our waiter questioned our age before even asking for our id's. We brushed it off, but it made the experience very uncomfortable right off the bat. We were told we had to put in all of our orders right away as they received "many tickets", which is unacceptable for any establishment to do that. Throughout our dinner the wait staff kept eyeing us and did not seem to care. Was also then told we can sit outside on the couches to watch the beautiful view and relax, then we were kicked out immediately. One employee kept following us to make sure we did not wander off to another property which is acceptable, but was done very unprofessionally without any consideration. While trying to leave and waiting for our uber another employee told us we should wait where we are for our ride, in the middle of the parking lot. If you are there for the food and the food only then go to this place. The service is awful. First, when we sat down all the staff was sitting on their phones eating and judging at the table next to us. Then, our waiter rudely questioned us for being 21 before asking for ids. They rushed us for our food while almost all of the staff was looking at us and talking (probably about us). In addition, our group was given the option to sit outside (an hour limit) after the inside reservation was made. We chose to sit inside, and continued to see the outside tables being empty for two hours even though they said we would only be able to sit outside for one hour. Additionally, we asked to sit outside and take pictures on the outer couches and were kicked out by the management even though the waiter told us we were able to sit outside after our dinner because they were empty. As we were leaving, we saw our waiter outside again eying us and talking to another member (probably about us again). to conclude although we had great food and drinks the service and uncomfortable experience ruined the evening for us. read more

I was surprised to see that Navy Beach did not receive that many great reviews. I had dinner there last night with a few friends and we had a great experience. Started off with the hamachi ceviche (delicious), beets, ribs, watermelon salad, shishito peppers, (all small plates, and yes we're fatasses). The hamachi and ribs were my favorite. The rib meat fell right off the bone. As for entrees, a bunch of us ordered the Salmon which had a miso broth in it that was amazing, Tilefish that had a coconut curry sauce and the fried chicken. All entrees were very good and our server was great. I would definitely recommend Navy Beach and I plan to go back next time I'm in Montauk. read more

After the strangely uniform reviews, this goes down as the biggest disappointment of the season to date (but it's still early!) The location is great.....one of those hidden spots only Montauk offers on the East End. But the service is sketchy, drinks "on the rocks" under-iced, and the menu somewhat disjointed. The fried calamari, while good, is a vastly undersized portion that's barely shareable. Didn't have the ceviches but they looked good. Fish 'n chips was good and bountiful, but salmon with garlic noodles not so much. The salmon was not up to par for the area. Could practically count the garlic noodles on the fingers of two hands.....but no matter because they had no taste. Probably a better bet for a nice fried fish/lobster roll lunch than for dinner. read more

Great start - valet parking well organized, courteous and prompt and the location is nicely situated on the beach. From there on in, everything went downhill. Taking into account any Covid-related challenges...service was very disorganized and slow. Almost 20 minutes after being seated we asked for our server, who arrived after a few more minutes. The server was rushed (understandable these days) and uninterested (disappointing but forgiven). Manhattan prices for bucatini with no flair, delicious truffle fries, ordinary fried chicken and one entrée arriving after an unexplained delay of almost 10 minutes after the others. Water had a bug in it - again, not really the server's fault but eventually you just wonder if anyone is paying attention? Not asking for perfection, willing to make allowances for Covid challenges around staffing but in summary the wait time after being seated, multiple servers bringing someone else's food and one of our dishes arriving long after the others made the entire experience feel like money not well spent. read more

As many have started off in their reviews, the one thing that is amazing about this place is the view. The sunsets are beautiful and the location is what made us go. My Fiancé and I visit Montauk a lot and we decided to try something new. We heard many mixed reviews but still wanted to give the place a shot. The food, was average. Many dishes have fancy names but are rather quite simple. We have a family friend who owns some of Long Island's top restaurants so I know good food when I taste it, and this was just okay. We also waited a very long time, and hardly saw out waitress. We also did not get a bread basket or water. We didn't get our water until we asked for our check and asked for water as well. I was disappointed because our waitress seemed a lot more down to earth than some of the others, they are all gorgeous girls but should also know how to wait on customers, not dress like Hooters girls to get bigger tips. It is defiantly for a certain type of crowd. The scenery, ambiance and overall feeling in Montauk has been dramatically changing. This restaurant is an example of that changing scenery. I really wish our experience would have been better. I think they need to improve on their wait service and make each guest feel as important as any other, whether your a "vip" or not. The food was good, but not amazing considering the prices. We got to see a beautiful sunset which was worth the trip. Went there on a busy Saturday night and our reservation got us seated immediately. The wait staff seemed busy but attentive. Our portions were large and we were extremely pleased with the food. The crab cake was one of the best I've ever had, and puts anything in Baltimore to shame. No filler, just finely seared and seasoned crab. I went with the NY strip afterwards and again was very pleased with it. However, my wife wins with her lobster saffron. 1.5 lb lobster served on a risotto cake with cherizo in a saffron broth with edamame and cherry tomatoes. The worst place ever. Took us 20 minutes to even place our order as no one showed up. We were a party of 8 with kids and were told to place our food order all at once. We tried our best but without knowing portion sizes and with a big party we decided to order some more food at the end. All this while we did order drinks. The server told us "you people are disingenuous", when we attempted to order more food! Why - because we couldn't accurately anticipate the amount of food we ordered. A completely racist experience. We were only giving them more business and we had only been there an hour. When we spoke to the manager, Liz, she said that we don't get any apology for being called disingenuous and the server didn't do anything wrong. So we are definitely not coming back here - there are plenty of establishments in the Hamptons that want our business and know how to treat people with basic courtesy. Not sure why this place has so many negative reviews. Food was delicious, portions were decent and fairly priced for the area. Everything we ordered was great - scallops, the corn, lobster roll, fish and chips, calamari, truffle mac. I highly recommend the truffle mac - although it is listed as a side dish it was substantial enough to fill me up for lunch. And you can't beat the $10 price! My wife and I arrived around 6:00pm on a Sunday in late June. Half the inside of the restaurant was empty, the bar was 80% empty, there were available seats for two at bar tables, and there were three empty tables outside. We were told that if we didn't have a reservation, we couldn't sit outside. OK, fair enough. My wife spotted an empty, humble outdoor table next to a long log. We asked if we could sit there and eat dinner. The hostess advised us that we could, but only if we ordered from the outdoor lounge area. All the lounge tables were taken so I perched on the edge of a bench and asked for menus, which I received. So far, so good. But when I flagged a waiter for the order, he said we couldn't order from the lounge -- we'd have to order from the bar. I went into the bar to order but the bar advised us that if we ordered at the bar, we'd have to eat at the bar -- they would not deliver dinner to the log table. More rules, more contradictions. OK, whatever. We accepted this in good humour and moved into the bar, where there were three empty tables for two. But then we were told that we couldn't sit and eat dinner at these tables. But then the hostess advised us that we could sit inside the restaurant, where literally half the tables were empty, but we'd have to wait 20 minutes. Would we mind having a drink and waiting? OK, sounds fine. We put our name on the list. Then the hostess asked for my cell phone. Apparently this is how they notify patrons that tables are ready. But the live music was really loud, so there was no way we would hear my cell phone ringing. Would the hostess just come get us when the table was ready? No, she wouldn't. Did we really want to spend 20 minutes staring at my cell phone instead of relaxing while waiting for our table? No, we didn't. No reservation? Not a Montauk Insider? Not a Navy Admiral? Not a Mick Jagger-level celebrity? Forget Navy Beach. It's just a hassle. read more

They used mayonnaise rather than butter, which I like, but the chef has way too heavy a touch salt and seasoning. Even those of us who prefer salty food were put off by the amount. As one person of our group was pregnant she wanted to make some small adjustments to one of the dishes and substitute things you are not supposed to eat during pregnancy. I brought my girlfriend, who has never been to Montauk, to Navy Beach. What a big mistake. We walked in at 5:00 dressed very nice and ask for a table for two, the very RUDE hostess said we only have this and sat us at small table with bar stools across from the bar. I got up to look around and when I looked to my left there was a beautiful dining room with only two tables of people. My girlfriend went and ask if we can sit in there and with attitude the hostess said " I guess". We moved our table and went about enjoying our dinner. The minute I finished my burger they took the plates and brought us the bill. My girlfriend wasn't even finished with her wine and was planning on having another glass. I was looking forward to dessert but they didn't even ask. She explained to the waiter she wanted another glass of wine. He then brought her the wine with the new check. She took a sip and we paid the bill, thinking she would finish her drink and we would go but before we had a chance he came back and said "sorry but my boss wants you up because he needs the table!" I was mortified. People were staring at us as we walked out. They treated us awful! I left there feeling extremely bad. P.S. He didn't need the table because the dining room was empty. read more

Was at Navy Beach this past weekend and I am not sure what the hype is other than an amazing sunset. The restaurant is packed with a bunch of 20 something's half naked so if you are a guy on the prowl this is a good place to pickup. The reason I give it only 2 stars is the food was so mediocre, service was poor and the line for the ladies restroom was always so long. I have yet to find a place in the hamptons where the food is superior - it's all so mediocre especially when you are spoiled by so many options in NYC. Came here this past Saturday for dinner. Originally I booked the reservation a week in advance for 6 people. The day of, the hostess were very nice and were able to accommodate 7 people with no additional wait time. The location is very nice and spacious. The causal beachy lounges and tables on the beach are lovely. The menu was diverse. I was worried that this would be a restaurant that would have high entrée prices and small portions. My entrée was so large that it took 2 additional people to help me finish. I would suggest investing in plastic tumbler glassware for outside. The little plastic cups hold nothing and they take away from how nice the place is. Also, the tables on the beach need more lighting at night. Had a wonderful Sunday afternoon at Navy Beach. There were 10 of us total and of course we wanted to eat outside. There is a wait, there will always be a wait, it is summer in Montauk after all! We sipped on cocktails on one of the large blue loungers while we waited for our table to come up. We had a fantastic waitress, Kat. Food was great, we had a wide array at the table but I think the winners were the parm fries, mussels, scallops and of course the honey buttermilk fried chicken. I couldn't stop eating the parm fries. I would come back just for those. I thought the food was a little over priced but not too far out there. The view was the best part, it was a little cloudy but it was beautiful out there. Right on the water, what more can you ask for? Oh bocce to play while you are waiting. Awesome. My one complaint is that I ordered a soda, beer and bloody mary at the bar and it came to $22. I handed the bartender $25 and was not given any change, the 3 $1 bills went right into her tip jar. Was I always planning on giving her the money? Yes. But I enjoy the whole they give it back and you leave it on the bar for them anyways game. Let me have my fun! Arrived on time and was offered seating either inside or outside in the sun "because all seats in the shade were reserved." Upon further examination, lots of tables "in the shade" were available. Left the place. You may try your luck and reserve the table "in the shade" but my advice would be to stay away from this outfit unless your are a part of local mafia/ regulars who get to seat in the shade. We have been enjoying this restaurant for years. The food and service get better and better. Early July Monday night was the perfect family night for dinner on the beach until the valet brought our car up with a giant gash in the driver door which I noticed immediately! The restaurant manager was very nice so I didnt call police. He assured me that they would take care of it/insurance for there things, etc. but now 2 weeks later, the valet owner is claiming it did not happen there (HA!). Im very saddened that such a great restaurant would allow their vendors to drive so recklessly in the lot and not assume responsibility for incidents (particularly as they have insurance!) This will cost a fortune unless they accept responsibility...I still hope they do - Beware! read more

We signed up for the prefix a week in advance and called 2 days later to change our number from 10 to 8. We had the call for proof - date, time and length of the call to prove it. When we got there Dan K accused us of lying and stood over our table while the first course came out for 15 minutes. Absolutely killed the ambiance with his evil, unfriendly attitude. We had never even been asked what we wanted to drink before the food came out? We were treated as if we were lying and then Dan refused to give us options on ways to stay and pay. We said we were about to spend the same amount on alcohol. Also, we didn't understand what the difference would be if the majority of the courses were changed from 10-8 food wise and also they were the ones who didn't document the change ($75/person & $60/bottle? - are they stupid) Honestly we felt that we were treated that way because we were all young women who they could take advantage of.
