Love this place for the location however food is not good. Stick to drinks and the ambiance and go for lunch/dinner elsewhere.

Not sure exactly how to give a star rating to this place since we never actually made it to the table we reserved. My friend, who has very fair skin called one day in advance to make the reservation and requested a table with an umbrella. She was told, "All of the tables have umbrellas." When we arrived, the host attempted to seat us at an outdoor high top counter area with no umbrella. It was the only place in the restaurant without an umbrella. (There were actually 4 seats at this counter and the two lucky guests at the other end of the counter had an umbrella.) When we asked if we could be please be seated at a table with an umbrella, they refused even though there were several empty tables. They offered to seat us behind the server water station, separate from the rest of the beach. When the manager arrived, she was extremely combative from the start. She approached us in this aggressive kind of huff and before we could even speak, she blurted out, "You have two choices, THIS (no umbrella) or THAT (sitting behind service station) or you can leave!" That's 3 choices but I digress. It was bonkers. We left. I would like to add that while this was happening, I observed 3 employees huddled and talking in the inside portion of the restaurant, each pulling down his mask temporarily when he spoke and then putting it up again as the next guy pulled his mask down to reply. Guys, the most important time to keep the mask over your mouth is when you are talking. It was like a comedy routine but we are in a pandemic so it wasn't so funny. We ended up having a great lunch down the road at Sweet AZ - friendly staff, yummy food, and great outdoor seating with a view of the pond. read more

We had such a bad experience at this restaurant and will never go back! I am not one to write a review but this one is necessary. They sat us on the ledge of a deck that wasn't even really a table. We were there for dinner, I had a reservation and saw they had other tables open. Then the workers were standing over us, I guess that was the spot the staff would stay when they were free. It was uncomfortable having a conversation with my husband because that's how close they were to us. The food was not good at all and at the end the waiter goes to hand us the check but didn't even ask us if we wanted dessert. I asked for an espresso he must have given me the end of the pot because it was the smallest amount that was bitter and espresso grinds. It felt as if they just wanted us gone and were not attentive at all. I didn't even make it back to our hotel before righting a review, that's how mad I am! People visiting Montauk, there are much better restaurants to go to than this one. I would give this 0 stars if that was possible! read more

Service here was truly nuts. We were moved to a different table halfway through our meal and approx. 7 separate waiters came to check on us and asked by 1 if and why we moved. Location, location, location is the key to everything but quite frankly, it is about the only thing this restaurant has going for it. Yes the view is great, right on the beach and sunset couldn't be seen from a better point. BUT after the sun goes down and you get to the reason you came there, good food, service and environment, it seems to have disappeared like the setting sun. The service was slow, the server we had really didn't seem that interested in us as customers, just another table see had to deal with. The service was slow and inconsistent. When our Entrees came, the one who was the most hungry was my 12 year old son and of course they don't have his order. We had to wait for them to now place the order and get it delivered which by then not only had us but our guests, out of sorts. I will say they did the right thing and adjusted his meal off the check. I ordered the short ribs and would honestly give them 2.5 stars out of 5. the portion was small and the short ribs were basically tasteless. By the time we finished, I was pretty convinced I would never go there again. All in all save your money, there are much better restaurants in Montauk then this one. read more

Why everyone raves about the location is beyond me. This restaurant is on the LI Sound side of Montauk, not the ocean side. The beach is not an ocean beach, but on the sound. Not exactly first rate. It's located down a road that's an eyesore and the neighborhood is extremely downscale. We arrived early for 7:30 reservation on a Thursday nite, late August. Intended to have a drink at the bar before dinner but changed our minds when the small bar had 5 children sitting on the stools while mommy and daddy got their loads on. There should be a law against clueless parenting and the dumb restaurant owners who let this go on. Bars are for adults, take your kids elsewhere. A real turnoff. Once seated, our waitress was the next turnoff. Very pushy demeanor..rambling on about her favorite mixed drinks and what to order, wasting her breath since we only drink wine or beer. I ordered a glass of the house chardonnay and she said she thought they "just ran out" but would check. Came back saying that there was "one glass left" and would I want it? Are you kidding me? Next she pulled a cute move.."Would you want me to bring you edamame to start?" as if it was comlimentary, which it isn't. We wound up ordering iceberg wedge with blue cheese and the lobster pasta dish. Both were adequate, but the salad was overpriced. Overall, wouldn't go back. read more

Navy beach survives due to perfect location... However the food is mediocre at best and the reservation policy is less than satisfactory. I am on vacation in a casual beach resort and they want me to print and scan them back my signature so that they can can charge me 25 per head if I am unable to keep my reservation. I have been coming here for 20 years and I am disgusted by their obnoxious policy. Technology should enable them to recognize they're repeat customers for a customer service experience I would never recommend to friends or family. Pull it together navy beach!!!! First of all you might feel like you are being led down a street in horror film to get to the place, but trust me you'll be ok and it is worth it. The food is good but consistency isn't in their favor and accompanied with a high coast. The burger is to die for and the parmesan fries are awesome if the aren't soggy. It's a great place to hang out on the beach and day drink. In the evenings you will have a great view of the sunset, if you don't mind having a few boats anchored in the bay. read more

Salmon was dry and lobster with saffron sounded good but was small and flavorless. Tuna tartare app was pretty good. Based off of the reviews, I wasn't expecting much for the food. However, I actually ended up liking it quite a bit. Parm fries and charred shishito peppers were both addictive. The fried chicken seemed to be a hit and the portion size was huge. I got the scallops and thought it was okay--didn't love the scallop and date combo. Views of the ocean are gorgeous. We got to catch the tail end of a sunset and take some nice pictures. It was too cold to sit outside but I'm guessing the place is really nice for a drink on the beach when the weather is warm. read more

I had the delicious crab cake, the better lobster that I ever had and a wonderful lemon tart with a champagne!!!!

This was the perfect combination of beach and restaurant/bar. We stumbled upon it and had some friends bringing their kid to hang with "our" kid. What a treat! Within minutes we were seated at a table of beanbags overlooking the water. It was gorgeous. The wait staff could have been a little more attentive, however at the end of the day, they did a great job taking care of us. We just ate some appetizers, but let me tell you, the ceviche is very very good. The atmosphere is what this place is all about. The patrons were very friendly as after the day here I left making several new friends. There was also a live DJ but the music was not overpowering. What a delightful little corner in Montauk - I came here for lunch with a few friends and lounged in a cabana under the sun, drinking rose and snacking on food. We lucked out on 4th of July weekend and didn't have to wait at all to be seated. The view was gorgeous and was an overall relaxing beach spot on the water. read more

Absolutely terrible service. We got to the place and had drinks outside on a day bed, 4 people, waiting to have food. No one came to serve us. As we went to get the third round of drinks at the bar inside, the waitress waits for us to pay for the drinks to then come over and tell us we have to leave the table for a reservation. She pointed the chairs which were all occupied as the next option and when I told them they are taken, she rolled her eyes and told me to find another unoccupied table then. We found another to finish our fresh round of drinks and after 5 min of sitting the waitress asked us to leave because another reservation is coming. At this point we are standing with our untouched drinks in our hands. I went to the front desk to talk to someone about it and asked for the manager to which lady starts responding to me while two more waitresses gather around to listen in and roll their eyes as if it's outrageous to think I could expect to be seated after you served us drinks. I didn't walk in demanding a table without a reservation, I was sat down by your staff and was well into a tap for more than an hour at which point you kicked us out after conveniently letting us order one last round of drinks without a place to actually have those drinks. To put the cherry on top of the whole experience as the manager finishes our conversation within ear shot she tells the bouncer to "kick her out if she says anything else". This to an existing customer which you already did poor service to. Please save yourselves the horrible experience and stay away from this place. read more

After we ordered drinks , they hurried us to order the appetizer and then rushed us for the entree . Go for the sunsets! Navy Beach opened in 2010, and the sunsets are as beautiful as ever. The service is stronger, but the food has hit its sophomore slump (a year late.) 2010 and 2011 brought the following to Navy Beach: A mention on The Real Housewives of New York City. Ethereal lobster tagliatelle. Sunsets over Fort Pond with great live music and cocktails to match the setting. Cancelled reservations because our friends didn't answer the phone when they didn't recognize the number on their caller ID, with the explanation, "WE don't leave a message." You don't have to read all the Yelp reviews to know that Navy Beach polarizes. The good news is that the service we had tonight suggests that Navy Beach has invested in staff and training to ensure a professional experience. Our waitress, Amy, was friendly and attentive. There were plenty of runners and bussers so that we didn't need to worry about our water glasses staying full. Our meal started quickly (nothing worse than waiting ten minutes to get your drink order taken, which did NOT happen) and was paced well. They do still play entree bingo ("who had the chicken?") and clear each diner's plates as they are finished, however. But, who doesn't nowadays? The bad news is that the food has regressed towards the mean. The lobster tagliatelle is still a very enjoyable dish, but it is no longer the unique dish it once was. Gone is the fiery spice - that part I understand, but regret. But also gone is the thickened, rich sauce, and in its place is a bland, thinner broth. The buttermilk fried chicken is still juicy pieces of sweetly breaded chicken. Wonderful. Ceviche in Montauk should be a no-brainer, and the fish was certainly fresh. Not terribly interesting, however. The drink menu has been refreshed for 2012, with a strong skew toward St. Germain cocktails. If you like elderflower liqueur, as I do, you will be in drink heaven. And in a completely coincidental development, the outdoor seating has been outfitted with brand new St. Germain umbrellas. I had a Captain Jack to start my evening - Rye, St. Germain and ginger ale. I heartily recommend it. Navy Beach has one of the most beautiful locations in Montauk. It has good food at prices that don't shock, as can happen in the Hamptons. If our experience tonight is a predictor of the rest of the year, it offers friendly, professional service. Go. Enjoy a drink and enjoy yourself. It can be a great place to be. read more

Has been 10 years since I last visited restaurant. Was intrigued with the changes in the outdoor seating, particularly the couches. The hostesses were not the friendliest. The selection for entrees was limited. Outdoor seating was fun since I had my 7yr old daughter and 13yr old son. I found it unusual how they allowed people to occupy the couches for over 3 hours without eating. One couch was occupied by a couple that thought they were on a singles beach and had no regard for all the children around them - we arrived at 5:30 on a Monday and they were already there. I wonder if one could go directly to outdoor area without eating and just watch the sunset since no one is really in charge. read more

What a perfect place to relax during the day. We went for a late lunch and ordered the tuna nikkei, salmon tartare, and the ceviche to split. All were fresh and delicious. I also had a spicy tequila cocktail which was the right touch to sip under the sun. This place becomes quite the scene at night and on the weekends (Which I can understand why with the view and comfortable lounges) but I will stick to my midweek chill vibe. The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is the beautiful view. Otherwise, eat at home and come for drinks. The food is inedible. Tuna crudo was not fresh and basically tasteless. Ordered the grilled avocado and I was disgusted. It was an old avocado that was probably cut 2 days earlier and grilled ( had a grill mark on it, wow) and now it has browned and topped with some shrimp thing. So gross. So - I have been to Navy Beach many times - after all who can beat lunch on the beach - but this past saturday July 22, 2017 was a sad expereince and I write to warn fellow yelpers. I had a reservation - no problem - they had the table outside ( they don't guarantee an outside table) - but while this table was not in their main beach area, but next to the parking lot, which while not preferable, has usually not been a probem as I have gotten seated in that area before -but on this hot muggy saturday, instead of getting relief on the beach we got a snout full of fumes from the generator powering a vendor's jewelry bus in the lot. It was stinky and unpleasant - and we did move away, but your really couldn't get far enough away if you were stuck in that general area. Is this any better than a table full of smokers???!!! - well even they can't smoke out there, but we get to get poisoned because the owners of the restaurant apparently don't make enough money so they have to lease out a spot to a vendor who has to keep their trailer nice and comfy for browing customers while polluting and poisoning their guests who are paying good money to dine there. I say YEECH - so if you are shown a table on the beach by the lot, and that trailer and its generator are there - ask to sit inside - is it even legal to do what they are doing???? BTW - the food as always was okay - it's never great, but usually the atmosphere is and that makes up for a lot of sins. read more

Would be 5 star except the service was really, really slow and the waitress forgot our drinks twice. The location is gorgeous - and you can't beat the view. Had the tilefish and it was awesome. Pretty disappointing that Navy Beach somehow didn't enter in the reservation I called to make exactly 2 weeks to the date to the minute. I was booking for a large party (11 people) so it was quite stressful that I seemed to get lost in their shuffle despite multiple phone calls. They were kind enough to give me a much later reservation on the same night and the weather cooperated and we saw a beautiful sunset. Drinks are interesting / food is good. read more

This place has gone downhill. The view is still breathtaking but that's the best part about it. Food is mediocre. They claim to have some acclaimed chef but honestly you can get the same level of food in most Greek diners. The service is awful! They have a very strict policy on reservations and even when you adhere to them, you are not guaranteed a table at that time. Management can't and won't answer any of your questions or concerns- their answer is "I don't know!" Many many nicer establishments in montauk with much better food. i had high hopes for this restaurant though it is off the beaten path. When we arrived, on a weekday for lunch, the parking lot and restaurant were empty. Nevertheless, we were required to valet park. I went into the restaurant to enlist the manager to override this ridiculous policy, since we're not big on valet parking and our luggage was in the car. After a long wait for the manager, she said we "were required" to valet so we left. With such inflexibility, I would skip this one. read more

Great food with outdoor seating on the beach. We enjoyed the tuna tataki with quinoa salad, a lobster roll with fries, salmon tartar, a beet salad, and mojitos. All fantastic. Very attentive and friendly service. We had lunch here even though yelp said it was closed. Yelp was wrong. read more

Have been here a few times over the last couple of years. Has turned into a "hipster" location especially on a cloudy Sunday afternoon. One thing that hasn't changed is the service - poor to average at best. Waitress rarely came over and every time she did I had to ask of anyone needed a drink - she never did after the initial greeting We had the Calamari - sauce was very good (spicy and sweet). The fish "fritters" were okay- nice and spicy. Salmon and burger also were 3-4 star worthy but the $43 steak was a complete rip-off. read more

Navy Beach is an anomaly. Generally a "happening" place with a beautiful sunset view will have abysmal food and watered down drinks. This place has the scene and best sunset view in Montauk along with good food. Wait a minute....this place has excellent food! The small plates are perfect for sharing; the ribs are fallin off the bone perfectly seasoned wonders, and the Rock shrimp, ceviches and tartares and salads are all great. If it's on the menu, their octopus is incredibly tender and done in a really nice med style. You also can not go wrong with a steak or salmon dish here as well. Unlike their competition, these guys generally get you seated and served quickly and do not overcharge. Sunday nights on the decks are also big fun with Winston IRie, a nice mix of people which will remind you of the "old Montauk" ie locals, hipsters and even families with kids runnin around in the sand and reasonably priced drinks with pleasant cocktail waitresses.
