Oh NCH Bakery- how I love you! If you like icing (which I do!)- this bakery is the BEST! My husband got me addicted to the tea cookies. The cookies themselves are small and soft... yet the icing is also soft and the ratio of cookie:icing is perfect! The normal sized cookies are always very cute- well decorated. Again- the icing is soft and delicious! I'm not a fan of royal icing, which is what most places around here use to decorate their pretty cookies. I LOVE the fact that NCH uses buttercream. Without a doubt, I believe their cookies are far superior to any other bakery in Cincinnati. The cakes are so tasty, of course including the cupcakes. I love the variety of flavors they always have in their cupcakes. And then... there's the pastries! I'll just say- I've never had a bad one! This place is amazing! The only bad part is how crazy it can get in the small space, but it's for the love of the sweets. So I can't fault that.... I love walking into bakeries and trying the goods. I've tried all the chains around Cincy (Servatii, Buskens, graeter's). I've tried the non-chain bakeries (BonBonerie, Bonomini, etc). I've gone to Sugar Rush multiple times- so I feel familiar with the competition. NCH bakery is my favorite- because it has never let me down. read more

This place is as cute as a button, the staff here is very warm and friendly and they have great pastries. Every time we are in the area, I always want to stop by to get something. My favorite of theirs are the elephant ears. They have great deals on breads and do specialty cake for events. Great prices. read more

I ordered a malt, without whipped cream, and a piece of pumpkin cake. After what seemed like 10 min, I got my malt, with whipped cream. I would call it a small or medium sized malt with large sized price. Waited another 10 min; never got the pumpkin cake; left. Don't think I'll ever go back. Advice: don't wear a maga hat. read more

Love this bakery. We use it for all birthdays, events, etc. Just a cool little neighborhood bakery with delicious goods. A real dying breed of small local businesses. It would be an easy 5 star if it weren't for one particular lady whose customer service is atrocious. She has the nastiest demeanor and tone. If you're that jaded from working in a bakery, please move on or retire. I'll continue to support this great place despite Old Cranky Pants. The bakery deserves the support. read more

I love this bakery. It's only a few minutes walk from my house. There donuts are delish. My daughter will stop by on her way to school from time to time for a donut or a cookie. They are always so polite and patient with a 10 years old who can never make up her mind. read more

We used NCH bakery for our wedding cake and we are so glad we did. We got a small 2 tier cake for us and sheet cakes for the rest. They have chocolate, white, marble, carrot, and red velvet for the sheet cake flavors and we got one of each. Multiple people told us how delicious the cake was and went back for multiple slices. The sheet cakes are iced in a way that the people cutting the cake know exactly how big to make each slice, which are generous portions, and each piece has an individual decoration, such as a flower. The cake was less expensive than any other area bakery and more delicious, in my opinion. Our 2 tier cake was beautifully decorated and also delicious. I would send any bride or anyone looking for a cake for an event here. read more

I go into this bakery a couple times a month and have never had a bad experience. It is one of the only places left in the city that is a true downhome mom and pop spot! The culture in the store is wonderful, its a place where you feel like you are in a community. The homeade breads are soft delectable and a chunk of americana. The donuts are always moist and sugary. There is always a new treat waiting whenever I have came in. This little place is worth a good 40 minute drive where ever you are in the city. Prices are about the same as a kroger's bakery but the sweets are so much better! read more

It is not a fluke that this little place scores higher than bonbonnerie. Everything is excellent: the coffee cakes, dinner rolls, and hamburger buns are especially good. Lots of Cincinnatians in the know make a trip here once or twice a month to stock up on the good stuff that's been lost since Kroger, Meier, et al have started "bakeries" in store. The place doesn't put on airs; the cakes aren't artistically rendered, but everything is fresh and delicious. read more

Every year for the last 25 years we have enjoyed your Christmas tree coffee cake. This year we were very disappointed when it was covered with chopped pecans. In the past my son could eat it because a few pecan halves could be removed. I would rather have no pecans than cut cost by using pieces. Otherwise everything was delicious. read more

Stopped in for some doughnuts. They didn't have my favorite, chocolate frosted cream-filled so I selected one with vanilla frosting instead. It was small and disappointing, and certainly not fresh. The bakery itself is crowded and hard to navigate if there are other customers as there is literally no room to manuever. read more

My wife (4+ months pregnant) and I were flying back to Cincy to visit my family. On the day before we were scheduled to leave, we found out we were having a girl. Wanting to be creative in breaking this news to my family, we decided to order a couple dozen cupcakes with pink filling (so that they would actually have to cut into the cakes to reveal the gender...and, yes, we likely watch too many baking shows on TV). I wish we had called these guys first because our request was turned away by a few other places (frustrating!). When we contacted NCH, not only were they able to take our order on one day's notice, they were also genuinely excited to do so. Vickie at the bakery was great to work with. She even asked to meet my wife and congratulated us when we picked up our order. The cupcakes were great, but it almost didn't matter. The way they happily took care of our request and the personal service we received from Vickie (and others) is what made our experience great. I used to go to the bakery back in the 60's for lunch when I went to NCH High School. The cakes and pastries taste exactly the same today as they did then. I have lived in Houston, TX, Ft Lauderdale, FL, Atlanta, GA and Baltimore, MD and have not found a bakery even close to the quality of the NCH Bakery. I always stop whenever I am near Cincy and always get both a cinnamon cake and an apple cinnamon cake. I cannot recommend it more. read more

North College Hill bakery has been known as a great and reputable bakery, I have been referred a couple of years ago and I had purchased a birthday cake for my youngest daughter and the cake was great, so I decided to use their service again for my oldest daughter's birthday last week. This was not any birthday, this was her Sweet 16. I purchased a 2 tier cake, the top was chocolate and the bottom was marbled and also purchased 30 cupcakes to go around it. When I picked up my cake I noticed my cupcakes, the icing was white and chocolate. That was supposed to differentiate between the yellow and chocolate cupcakes but I noticed the in consistency; some of the yellow had chocolate and white icing when and the same for the chocolate when it should have been white on yellow and chocolate on chocolate. I decided not to mention or complain about that I felt it could've been an honest mistake; however when I served my daughter's cake I was disappointed and embarrassed because I kept hearing that the cake was not good, or done; that it was spoiled. I tasted the marble cake and I had to spit it out because it tasted like mush, I could taste the spoil from the eggs/milk. Someone dropped the ball on this one! I picked my cake up at 1:30pm and I didn't serve it until 9:30pm. There shouldn't have been a problem but there was and I had to stop serving it. Since the bakery was closed Sun/Mon. I couldn't take in till Tues and the lady I had to speak with told me wouldn't give me my money back. I was only asking for the value of the cake when it was a slap in my face to say I will give you a credit for a 9 inch decorated cake which was not the value of the 7 inch and 10 inch 2 tier cake I purchased. I have referred others to use their bakery but I will no longer after this experience! I would have considered purchasing from them again if they truly valued me as a customer and show they appreciated my business but the truth is they don't appreciate your business when something goes wrong! read more
