We both got a mix of the rice and salad and that was good. Good and friendly service. Comfortable sit down restaurant. Good selection of entrees, especially for fresh fish. Started reminiscing about being able to travel, and I remembered one of my first poke experiences. It was at Catalina Island! Avalon's NDMK Fish House made it a very positive and memorable one. The food is as local as you can get, because the stars of the dishes literally come from the island's bays and harbors and whatnot. Poke Bowl was expensive for the little bowl I got, but it had fresh chunks of fish, delicious flavors, and fun textures. Also bummed that the sushi roll/burrito was pretty skinny, but at least the components inside were yummy and refreshing. It's more of a fast-casual spot where you order up front and then find a table. Overall: small portions, but they have quality ingredients that were not super rich or heavy, and they tasted good. This place was absolutely incredible!! Me and my friends had just arrived on the island and gotten settled and were starving for some seafood so we stopped by NDMK down the street. This was easily the best restaurant on the island for us, so much so that we came here twice! I ordered the fish and chips with white seabass, and my friends ordered various sushi rolls and the deep drop burrito. Heavenly. The fish and chips had a really nice crispy even breading, which wasn't too thick and kept the fish nice and moist inside. The tartar sauce was a perfect pairing and the lemon wedge was a nice touch for some acidity. But probably the fan favorite item was the deep drop burrito. Filled with rice, shrimp, pico de gallo, and more this burrito was perfectly executed and tasted delicious. Besides the food our service was phenomenal both times we went. They were super packed and the server was on top of everything and extremely helpful with our orders. Overall it set a great tone for our catalina island trip. read more

Went around 1 in the afternoon and we waited a couple minutes to sit as they cleaned the table real quick. Once we sat, the place was pretty crowded with a mixed crowd of people of all ages. The music playing was 90s alternative rock's best hits, which was amazing! I got a beer (the hazy ipa, not sure what it was) which was light and delicious. For food we got the East End and Got Crabs rolls. Both were so good and the East End roll had a nice spicy kick to it. We also got the Deep Drop Burrito which was also really good. A hint of spice with rice that made it pretty filling. If we weren't leaving tomorrow we would be back. read more

My family and I visited Catalina island during spring break. We didn't expect much when searching for a place have lunch. However, we were pleasantly surprised by NDMK Fish House. We arrived and the staff was quickly seating guests. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was fresh and delicious. The price was reasonable given the location. The ambiance reminded me of Hawaii with the large screens displaying surfing competitions and the relaxed vibe. When we return to Catalina Island, I will be sure to stop by again. read more

So there's a right way to prepare fish for sushi and a wrong way. If it's not the one right way of clearing the spine asap as to remove bacteria then it's just gutted and filleted (wrong way) You can taste the difference... by a lot Plus the fish pieces were not the best cut. Yes they use sharp knives now they are not sushi cut. Oh never complain with more unless it makes whatever is it worse. When you have a piece of sushi you can't even chew because it's too thick and cut improperly that's the wrong way. This place has fresh fish and amazing service But the overall quality... I'm super surprised about! Gross tartar sauce (this one was also surprising!) Plus my salmon salad was over cooked with the salmon crunchy but the worst was the thin over cooked calamari (more like tiny sea French fries but the thin burnt ones on the bottom) I won't be returning unless for drunken beer food but there's a lot of other choices for that read more

Wait Time There looked like there was a line outside of the restaurant at peak lunchtime, 1 PM on a Saturday but the line was people waiting for takeout orders. Don't be swayed! I did not have to wait for a table. Food/Water I got the Poke Bowl ($16) and the fish tasted fresh and was filling. The sushi roll (Garibaldi- $16) was also great, tasted fresh. I also felt it was not clear that when I asked for water, I was going to be charged $2 for a bottle of Arrowhead. This is not a problem but I would have declined if I knew this was the case. Came here for dinner hoping for some fresh seafood, and while it was decently fresh, it did not amaze in my opinion. The fish ceviche was ok, not the best I've had, nor the biggest. The sashimi platter was not bad, I liked the tuna the most and the salmon is solid. Finally, we got a Rattlesnake, Rainbow, and Got crabs roll. The slices of fish and shrimp were really really thin on the rainbow roll, with too much rice and imitation crab on the inside. The eel was juicy and the soft shell crab was fried crisply but stayed soft and nicely seasoned which I liked, never had a roll like this one before. My girlfriend had the grilled mahimahi (they were out of the yellowtail) which again came out a bit small for the price, and was just ok as well, but not the freshest I've had. Finally as a heads up, water is being conserved right now so no tap water for drinks, there's only bottled Aquafina water and that costs $1.25 per bottle, not $1 for 2 bottles. read more

11.30.2020 lunch time, ordered the Lobster Plate + 2 sides. The Spiny Lobster was absolutely fresh, sweet & cooked to perfection. About 20+ minutes wait, not bad for fresh Spiny Lobster, stuffed w/ Shrimp Stuffing, drawn butter & lemon. We chose the Seaweed Salad & Fries as the sides which totalled $55. All was devoured & excellent. No indoor/outdoor seating due to Covid & unfortunately, this island is still considered LA County so everything shut down the day after we got here. No worry. We bought a 6-pack of beer from the liquor store, grabbed our bikes & food & had a picnic in the grass of a closed beach club. Everything worked so perfectly & peaceful that a herd of deer joined us after we finished eating. Totally made the best of Covid & it all worked out in trying times. My only complaint is that the to-go box the Lobster was served in was soggy, the food was still hot & delish! My friend ordered the fish and chips, which allowed her to choose a fresh fish of the day. She enjoyed her meal, and I thought the fries were cooked perfectly. I thought the seared scallops were a little too salty, and overpriced. And the roll had way too much rice. Food came out decently quick also. Poké bowl: I got the poké bowl with tuna and the fish seemed fresh. It was definitely a big portion and I especially liked that they didn't skimp on the seaweed salad :) The sauce was also very good on the fish! Got crabs roll: We thought the roll itself tasted good but it was definitely a disappointing portion as there were only six thin-ish pieces for $17. I'd go for a different roll or menu item especially if you're feeling hungry because I doubt this could fill anyone up on its own. Fish tacos: My parents tried the yellowtail tacos and they enjoyed it and mentioned that the sauce was a bit spicy which they didn't expect. My mom did regret not getting the mahi mahi instead of the yellowtail though and the yellowtail seemed a bit overcooked. You get one choice of side (default fries) but my mom went for garlic bread Clam chowder: Pretty standard, we got the bowl and I personally liked it, although it wasn't the best I've ever had or anything like that. Only thing we didn't like was that the soup was quite lukewarm, seemed like it might have been sitting out for a bit before the other dishes were prepared.
