Cute neighborhood coffee shop. I have never tried their food but will have to in the future. Their staff was very friendly. Drinks: Strawberry Matcha Latte: 9/10, seasonal drink that was not too sweet and the balance between the oat milk and matcha was perfect. Oat Milk Flat White: 9/10, perfect consistency with the milk that made the drink extra silky smooth. Discovered neat coffee through instagram and i am so glad we did. Walking in the interior was super cute. There are a few tables where you are able to study with a lot of natural lighting. The back area was very cute too with larger tables for groups. Service was great. We came on Halloween and the girl was super friendly. We got the shakerato and the strawberry matcha. The matcha was finished by the time we drove out of the parking lot. It was the perfect amount of sweetness for me and would definitely get it again. This place is a nice place to stop by for a coffee or matcha! They have nice seasonal drinks that are unique and well made. We ordered their strawberry matcha and peanut butter latte, both of which were made well and had an authentic taste! Peanut butter latte? Sign me up! I love peanut butter anything, so when I saw that this coffee shop offered a PB latte, I headed down there to check it out. I spend a lot of time in Costa Mesa, so I'm always looking for independent coffee shops to satisfy my 1-2 latte a day habit. And CM is certainly not short of them! Neat is a neighborhood coffee shop located right off of 19th Street & Pomona. They have their own small building, meaning that they're not in a shopping plaza, so they have dedicated parking spaces for their customers. Upon entering I noticed that there were a lot of students in there studying and hanging out. This truly is a neighborhood coffee shop. It's set up in an L shape, with quite a few tables available for customers. The barista was super friendly, took my order and whipped out my PB latte in no time! The latte was good but it didn't have as much PB taste as I expected it to have. They also have other creative coffee concoctions and a few pastry and food items as well. It's a coffeehouse tucked away at the back of a parking lot. If you blink, you might miss it. There are some parking spots in the lot and there is also street parking close by. The interior is very modern looking and lots of folks obviously use the space for studying. The interior design is nice. There was nothing wrong with my iced Americano except it was probably the smallest sized coffee I've ever received (outside of an espresso shot). At $4, I'd say the value of my drink was a little questionable. They offer food, too, including baked goods and avocado toast, etc. I didn't try anything but what I saw looked good. I came here explicitly because I thought they served Rocky's Matcha; which they in fact, do not. I saw it was a cute little cafe with cozy vibes so I decided to give it a try either way, and needless to say, this is the worst matcha I have ever tired, no exaggeration. 2/22/23 JUNIPER ROSE LATTE This was a special menu item. It was a very subtle flavor. At first sip, I tasted a bit of smokiness, then a little bit of the herbaceous juniper. Nothing was overwhelming. The coffee and the juniper rose flavor was well-balanced. Got whole milk, which made it creamy too. It was delicious and well-made! VEGAN, GLUTEN FREE CINNAMON ROLL A small dessert, a little bit bigger than the energy balls. There is variety of nuts and dates in it. The nuts and dates were ground up together and it created this creaminess to this vegan dessert. There was lots of cinnamon and sugar flavor that created this real cinnamon roll flavor. Then there was a vegan version of frosting for the cinnamon roll - it tasted so good! I was so busy eating it that I forgot to take a picture of what it looks like inside! I would get this vegan dessert again in a heartbeat! So delish! CUSTOMER SERVICE / AMBIANCE The barista was very chill and friendly. The coffee shop had a very relaxing vibe. Lots of bar seats and a few smaller tables for 2 or 4 people. It was quiet enough for people to come in for studying or working on their laptop. At first, maps sent me in the wrong way, and i couldn't find it. Glad i did. Parking lot is small but in the afternoon on a weekday it was fairly empty. There was only 1 person ahead of me in line and only 1 person working who was working cashier and making drinks. She was so sweet! I ordered the Neat One iced and she made it perfect! Absolutely no complaints. I also ordered one of their cinnamon rolls, happy to find out it is GF. It was phenomenal - reminds me of the raw cinammon roll from Erewhon. Dense, soft, sweet and cinnamony, and just delicious. I declare this the greatest cinammon roll ever. I would go back just for that, literally. There was a bit of seating inside and luckily it wasn't busy when I went so I was able to sit down. I noticed there was also a bit of seating outside. Very cute coffee trendy spot. There is indoor seating, no outdoor seating and limited parking. They had a great menu with a variety of options. I had to try the PB Cookie Espresso, and it didn't disappoint although I'd do less espresso just cause I love the taste of peanut butter. They also have homemade almond milk! I also had one of the butter dough balls, it was $3.50 for one small ball... I wouldn't get it again. That being said, they do have food and pastries! We stopped in shortly after they opened, and the barista was awesome! He had great energy, was really engaged with customers, and efficiently took orders and barred. Good vibes all around from the music to the aesthetic of the shop. We got the shakerato and an iced matcha with vanilla. The shakerato was such a balanced drink. Just the right amount of sweet-salty combined with the smooth espresso. The matcha was great as well, and the vanilla just helped make the drink that much better. I like going to great coffee shops that are slightly off the beaten path and embedded in neighborhoods. If not for Yelp and Google directions I doubt I'd ever have found NEAT tucked away and recessed like it is. Parking was almost a challenge, the small lot was full but luckily a street spot was available close by. Walking in we took in the quaint anesthetics and chill atmosphere, and also had to make a quick decision on where to sit and plug in a computer. I approve of the option to get wine by the glass here, a proper European style café! However, it was caffeine we desired and lattes are what we ordered. Special drinks and food options are printed on cardstock mounted on small clipboards. I noticed they make their own almond milk but selected oat milk for the Peanut Butter Cookie Latte and it was a perfect match. Foamy and compatible with the cookie flavor, a great concoction. Her Juniper-Rose Latte was equally brilliant and the strong flavors stood out without overwhelming the ensemble. How unlike so many other shops whose drinks barely taste like what's promised. Sitting at the low-bar area was fun, the perfect height to splay out the graphic novel I brought along and before we left I had a nice but brief conversation with my neighbor on the right. The music was another highlight and I liked the overall vibe of the patrons and employees alike. Too bad this isn't located closer to home but perhaps I'll hang here more often down the road? Next time I'll probably sample the food menu or get a snack. They roast coffee on premises so perhaps I'll buy a bag when my current supply at home dwindles. All-in-all, I love this place! read more

I stopped here on a rare chilly Southern California morning to find a line out the door. There was one friendly employee at the counter, simultaneously working the register and acting as barista. Another employee was in the back making breakfast food. It took about 10 minutes before I made it to the front of the line to give my order: a hot vanilla latte and a donut. I actually had my eye on their last remaining cinnamon roll but the customer in front of me snagged it so I opted for a vanilla frosted donut with sprinkles. The interior is minimalist but cute and welcoming with several tables and chairs at counters. I had to laugh because on this cold day with customers at tables wearing ski vests, flannel shirts, and stocking caps (an old-guy term for beanies) I felt like I'd entered a time machine to early 1990s Seattle. My vanilla latte tasted like a regular latte, no trace of vanilla or sweetness. In fact the coffee was so light it had little taste. I'm not joking when I say for a minute I thought maybe I had contracted covid and had lost my sense of taste. The donut was dense and moist and not overly sweet as the vanilla glaze was thin.
