I used to come here a lot and really liked the breakfast sandwiches and coffee. The place looks nice and service is decent. But now they automatically add a tip to the check without asking (Chicago keeps importing this bad Miami habit). Last time I just ordered a black coffee to go, and they still added a tip with no way to change it--then had the nerve to ask for another tip. Man, you're just pouring coffee into a paper cup, not creating anything special, and I wasn't even using the place to sit down. Also, the coffee was burnt like the poor quality coffee they serve in Starbucks. Your prices are already high, so one would think staff are paid properly. Forcing hidden tips feels like extortion. Walked from my hotel to this hipster coffee shop with a colleague on Tuesday morning around 7:15 AM. There was no line whatsoever; it's a quiet cafe with lots of personality in its decorations. I asked the staff's recommendation on a sweet drink, and they recommended their vanilla bourbon. After waiting about 5 minutes, my drink was served with a beautiful latte art. first of all, the coffee here is AMAZING. i think it's the best coffee i've had in the city so far. i really liked the layout of the space inside; it's really open and feels really roomy even though there were a decent amount of people inside. there's some regular table seating and also a "staircase" along the side wall where you can sit as well. they also have different drinks like kombucha that you can purchase by the can and an array of merch. I saw that they took the Joe rewards app but unfortunately they told me that the app wasn't actually working and that they have to decline all of the online orders and you can't use the rewards program as of right now, which is a bummer. The people working the register weren't the friendliest, but there were no issues! there's a filipino-inspired bakery pop up there every monday, wednesday, and sunday and i tried a sample of the pan de ube and it was really yummy! the women running it were super sweet and i will definitely come back to try some of their pastries and the soup they mentioned. read more

I'm going to be a regular here. The space is really light and airy, but also warm and inviting - it's easy to spend hours working here. My favorites are the Springtime Crunch salad which has this amazing honey lime vinaigrette-YUM! And, the donuts, they're the best donuts I've ever had in my life and they're VEGAN! You can order items from the baristas, but Debbie, the chef, puts together a great selection of to-go items as well, which appears to be changing seasonly. Also, did you know it's woman owned? "Automatically added tips" are not tips, they are part of the purchase price. It feels inauthentic and rapacious to mandate a tip for a simple cup of coffee. The price of the coffee is already premium, which is fine, this is a nice place and drink quality is good. But, I am repulsed by the idea of being mandated to pay a "gratuity" for having a simple order being taken by a notably indifferent cashier. Please change your policy. read more

They do not wish to pay they workers so they put it on us the customers requiring a mandatory extra 15 % gratuity on their already overpriced products and in addition my drink was incredibly watered down. I used to enjoy this place but now it's like pulling teeth to have a decent experience. They are open until 5 but they stop serving coffee at 3. They also won't let you eat your food on plates after 3 because then they have to wash them, so they give you food for carry out and glare at you to encourage you to leave. Service is also mid, and on top of that, they add automatic gratuity to every bill even though you order at the front cashier and they do not bring you the food or drinks. You also have to put away your own dishes. That's all fine but then don't add gratuity! I don't go here anymore which is disappointing because I used to enjoy it. read more

I put the heat sleeve and lid on myself. Exactly what the hell service am I being forced to add 15% to tip for? I paid over $9 for a 12 oz Chai Tea Latte! That's ridiculous. Why aren't we told beforehand that there's a 15% surcharge to supplement your employees' wages? I live in Printer's Row, btw. I'm very pro local businesses but the cute ambiance and selection of drinks is not enough for me to want to return. To be fair, I have gone a few times before making this review. The drinks are expensive, and costs are not entirely upfront. A latte is anywhere from $9-11. $11 for a latte?! Trash. The coffee isn't great either. Espresso has tasted burnt and stale more than half the times I've gone, to the point where it's worse than S***bucks, and while I'm all for tipping, I don't believe in automated charges on top of my order for one especially to go. The attitudes of the baristas/workers have also been hit or miss. Either they're very nice or just like what do you want. They have pastries but many times they're out of stock. It's really sad because we have such few options in Printers Row but I'd skip this place and try one of the others for your coffee fix. read more

Pros: The cafe had a soothing ambiance and the barista was friendly and accommodating. Cons: The product quality was poor and the price of a drink is outrageous. I was expecting to pay $6.50 or $7.00 for a specialty coffee with a little oat milk. I was okay with it being a little pricey because the coffee shop is a small business that looked to be high quality. Instead I ended up spending $9.60 for a medium sized oat milk with a splash of coffee. In all honestly, I'm not even sure if coffee was in the drink, but I did see the barista walk towards an espresso machine so I'll trust that they did. To sum it up: You're better off taking your $10, going to the 7/11 a block or two away for coffee and spending the leftover money on a sandwich or snack at a place nearby. Placed a GrubHub pickup order and proceeded to wait 15+ minutes for them to figure out how to get power back to their tablet that died and make the order. The order than only consisted of one coffee and items that did not require an oven. Place seemed clean and quiet but staff is leaving a lot to be desired.
