We ordered Eggs Benedict yesterday. The dish came on one english muffin, 2 inches of cold shaved ham, two poached eggs and thickly drizzled mustard on top of the eggs. Someone needs to go to cooking school--last time I checked Eggs Benedict is made with cooked Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce, made with whole egg yolks, butter and lemon juice. We promptly returned the dishes as inedible after verifying it was indeed mustard and not hollandaise. What an insult. We will not return to this establishment. I loved our visit to Nectar Farm Kitchen. We had six-year-old twins with us who loved the color on menu. The waitress was very gracious, and hung the pictures they colored and proudly gave to her. In a word: too sweet. We started with 2 special cocktails. Both were too sweet. I sent mine back for a glass of sauvignon blanc. The wine wasn't chilled. I think they opened a bottle from stock that hadn't been chilled. I had catch of the day swordfish prepared with peach BbQ sauce, served with mashed potatoes and veggies. The highlight was those potatoes. Delicious. I think my individual serving contained a full stick of butter. Just decadent. The peach BBQ sauce was sweet with no complexity. I expected a bit of sweet and some hot. It was just all sweet with no finish. We also got the hanger steak with mashed potatoes and veggies. The steak was good, cooked a perfect medium, but it was covered with a sweet butter. What's up with all the sweet? I wanted this place to be great. It wasn't. I'll try again in case I just got an off night, but next time I'll request all sauces/butter toppings on the side. One other quick note. We went on a Sunday night. They were out of several mains. Take a step back into time to find a beautiful small town with old school charm they call Bluffton South Carolina. While you're there you MUST try Nectar, it's inviting and beautiful landscaping with beautiful decor outside set the tone for a wonderful experience. The inside is just as beautiful with a great bee-vibe but tastefully done. The best part of it all was the luck we got by having Paige as our waitress, very friendly and gave a little special attention to everyone at the table (we had 6 of us) She answered our questions and without asking made some suggestions for the group. Have honest opinions on food and drinks and was an overall pleasure. The table is set for a wonderful meal from the walk in, the inside decor with a wonderful waitress AND booooom the food topped all expectations, absolutely delicious. All 6 meals got a 5 star!!!! It's a must visit on your way into HH island or if you're in the area. It was such a pleasant surprise and we will be back again. We had breakfast but the lunch and dinner menu looked fabulous also. They have a HUGE outside patio and bar area that make it look like a great evening spot for dinner outside. They also had a bar inside with every cocktail you could imagine PLUS an expresso bar for all your favorite coffee drinks. We had, our sea island stew, nectar salad, root beer braised short rib and a kids pancake. If you order any of those, I promise you won't be disappointed. They would not seat us without a reservation - said we could wait at the bar and they would give us a table as soon as one was available. I remarked that half the tables in the restaurant were empty and they told me those were all for reservations. We sat at the bar - empty table directly across from us. Ordered drinks and appetizers. After a half hour, they came and offered to seat us at the empty table we'd been staring at since we got there. Super weird and seemingly unnecessary. Perhaps the staff up front need some extra training in managing the dining room. BUT then we asked our waitress for recommendations and she said "I can't really give you any because I don't like seafood." OMG. My wife asked for her food to be made without butter - this was completely ignored and it was drenched in butter. Maybe this place could be great but definitely some room for improvement. So, we had two visits to Nectar today. First was hands down 4 plus stars! However, we came back based on our first experience to the opposite. Perhaps, because it was a pick up order this time but the order was wrong and the food was super salty and not what we expected. 1. Soup we ordered was the seafood oppose to Ministroni which was very salty and could not eat. 2. The main courses were also salty as well. I'm not sure what happened here but it was like visiting two different restaurants. It was bit busy the second time around but not enough to where it could or should effect the food quality. We really wanted this restaurant to be our go to while we're staying here for the week. So disappointed not to mention the online pick up order of 50 bucks and 18% tip to hand me a bag of food that wasn't eatable. I'm bummed and regret going there the second time in one day? read more

Just 3 stars. The food was quite tasty, but overpriced, and the service was slow. We ordered donuts and our server came back with plates for them 5 minutes later after we had devoured them. Our server said she would bring jam for our cornbread, but I had to ask for both butter and jam which came about ten minutes later. We had to wait another 10 minutes for a box and our check even though our server passed us multiple times. The food was good, but not up to the level that was being charged. We went for lunch with our out of town guests on a Wednesday. We had a party of five so we had about a 40 minute wait after an estimated 25. Not wanting to venture somewhere else, we stayed put and sat outside on the Adirondack chairs. It was a bit chilly but the sun was shining and our family members who just arrived from the North where it was below zero, enjoyed basking in the SC sun. When we were finally seated, our server Kegan quickly arrived with a warm smile and an enthusiastic welcome. We appreciated the hospitality. The atmosphere was lively, piped in music quite loud, but it was well decorated and attractive. Nectar farm's breakfast/lunch menu offered a myriad of options, many with a creative twist, so it took some time for us to to finally decide on our meals. Our drink orders arrived promptly which included some local beer on tap, a Bloody Mary, sangria and a Diet Coke. Everyone was pleased with their beverages so we moved on to the food. One diner decided on a traditional breakfast of two fried eggs, hash brown potatoes, city ham, and a buttermilk biscuit. Other orders included a biscuit eggs Benedict with the usual ingredients, country fried steak with sides, an upstate pasture omelette with sausage, ham, bacon, onion and cheddar, and finally a shrimp salad sandwich with avocado. Most everyone was delighted with their meals but there were some set backs. There was no doubt that the oil they used to fry the hash browns needed to be changed. I took one bite and never had another as it was too greasy and did not taste fresh. The buttermilk biscuit which was square, gave me the impression that they baked them in a pan whole and then sliced them to order. It was as hard as a brick and I couldn't even manage to tear or cut it it apart. I've never had country fried steak, but it was the shining star of my plate. The crispy exterior paired with the mild gravy and tender meat was well executed. But it was the only component of my meal that I enjoyed and actually finished with the help of my husband. Regardless, we would return as we think Nectar has promise, and its menu is diverse enough that it deserves a second helping. read more

Supposed to be duck pastrami with cabbage cooked in duck fat and a duck just to dip it in. Duck was supposed to be pastrami but was more like leftover duck boiled and shredded. No flavor at all. The duck jus tasted like dishwater. Not even a hint of duck. The roll was good. Everything went rapidly downhill from there. The sweet potatoes never came just the regular fries. I would have complained to the waiter but we didn't see hide nor hair of him until well after the meal was over. I will be happy to give this place a wide berth. read more
