Not a fan of the food mid diner food. Definitely not the type of meal you want on your vacation. The service is not up to par and some of the workers are not kind. The ambience is decent...

We were warmly greeted by a very nice gentleman. I was even able to joke with him that I loved his "southern" accent...maybe South Bronx! We had a great laugh and were immediately seated. Our food was so delicious, our server was wonderful and the atmosphere was great! Highly recommend!

Soup of the Day, always served in a mug! Vegetable soup and chicken soups are both excellent

We love the Hilton Head Diner. We love the giant menu, retro vibes, and occasional sassy service. It gives me nostalgia from diners growing up. Even now that we live here part of the year, we always keep up our vacation tradition of putt putt golfing next door and then having lunch at the diner. The dessert selection is heavenly too!

I had the corn beef hash with eggs with a side of gruts and my partner had a big breakfast. For dinner one night we had the roast turkey platter, which had homemade mashed potatoes and cornbread stuffing. Lots of leftovers for the next day. The fish platter was huge and full of white flaky cod. Reasonably priced, and you won't break the bank here Clean. Friendly owners Plenty of parking and the service was great allowing times we've been here.

We loved the diner ambiance and decor. The bathrooms need some work - they weren't dirty but the toilets were problematic. Our server was friendly and helpful. The food was visually attractive, but had a skimpy element that caused it to not be as enjoyable as it could have been. My Veggie Omelette had maybe half a slice of cheese centered along the fold which made it dry overall. My husband's Pecan Waffle had an about 2 tablespoons of finely ground Pecans in it centered in the middle. My toast and hashbrowns were good.

Went for late lunch/early dinner. Hubs ordered a burger, fries and malt chocolate shake. He was very happy with what he got. I was less thrilled with my food. I was debating getting the Turkey dinner but ended up ordering a hot open face sandwich with roasted turkey. The description in the menu stated it was served with mashed potatoes and "fresh vegetables". I should have asked about what the veggie was, but just assumed it would be the "vegetable of the day". When I got my plate it was served with French fries! Had I known that, I would have ordered something different. The open face turkey sandwich was "meh". Not terrible, but not great either. There were no mashed potatoes, and the gravy was pretty bland. To their credit though the turkey was fine. I definitely would not order this dish again though because it was not as expected. I think the Thanksgiving dinner turkey would be better since it is supposed to be served with stuffing. Again, overall I was disappointed in my meal. Wish the server would have asked if I was ok with fries on the side when I placed my order. I would have ordered something different.

Cute retro/classic diner vibes with hundreds of options to choose from. Food came out quick and great service.

Our first experience at the Hilton head diner was wonderful so we went back the next day. It was anything but a wonderful experience. I guess the difference is lunch versus dinner. I feel like the A-Team was there for lunch, and I don't know who showed up for dinner. We just took our drink order and then disappeared so someone else came over and asked if we had been helped, and took our dinner order and then she disappeared. We didn't see either one of them for the rest of the night until we were checking out. The guy who was at the register probably is not the normal guy because he was having difficulties entering things in, and we had all ordered a piece of pie to go. He acted like he didn't want to box it up. While we were sitting there, looking out the window waiting for somebody to come back I took a picture of the salt shaker, which has probably never been cleaned in its lifetime, picture included. Also the amount of bugs on the window was of biblical proportions.

Starting with the burger, I like when a smash burger is ACTUALLY a smash burger. They include cheese and pickles on it and it was just the perfect burger. I think it's pretty high on my burger rankings. Might even beat Heavy's! I feel like it's rare to get waffle fries unless you're going to Chick Fil A, so it was nice to have them with our burger. We got a bag to share and there was plenty. They were salted and seasoned to perfection and perfectly crispy. We sat outside where they have a full bar, a TV for sports, and they had live music.

The Good: The Smashburgers are excellent -- cheese, pickles,…read moreand onions all on point. If you haven't been here, stop settling for chain burger joints. This is genuinely one of the best burgers around. The waffle fries deserve a special mention: fresh, nicely done, and you get a generous portion. Think Chick-fil-A fries, but the way they should be. The Truffle Fries are solid too -- just a bit rich for my taste, but that's purely personal preference. I also tried the Sweet & Spicy Chicken -- good and flavorful, though slightly heavy on the batter for me. Still worth a try. A Couple of Suggestions: A lower-carb side option would be a welcome addition -- I asked and it was a hard no. Hopefully Tin and Tallow considers adding some healthier alternatives down the road. Breakfast -- Proceed with Caution: The croissant with egg and cheese was, unfortunately, a miss for me. The egg and cheese were fine, but buttering an already butter-heavy croissant and griddling it turned it into a flat, gooey mess. I hear there's a biscuit option, which might be better -- but personally, I'd love to see an English muffin or bagel on the menu. Something with a little more structure would go a long way. Bottom Line: Come for the burgers and fries -- you won't be disappointed. Just maybe skip the croissant breakfast for now.

It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

Debbie and I stopped in about an hour before closing, not expecting much--just a quick bite. What we got instead was hands down one of the best seafood meals I've had in a long time. First off, we met the owner, Jim Scully--absolute legend. Friendly, genuine, and actually takes the time to sit and chat. You just don't see that anymore. Great conversation, great energy... set the tone right away. Now let's talk FOOD... * Fried oysters & shrimp - ridiculously good. Light, crispy, not greasy at all. You can tell everything is top quality. * Coleslaw - vinegar-based, shredded, and honestly reminded me of proper German kraut salad. Perfect balance with the seafood. * Soft shell crab... alright, this is where things got serious. "It was like a circus in my mouth... just an explosion of flavors." I'm not exaggerating. The texture was creamy, not oily, and the batter was just perfect. One of those bites where you just stop and look at each other like... yep, this is special. On top of that: * Everything is made with high-quality ingredients * Prices are very reasonable for what you're getting (honestly, some places charge double for worse) * BYOB (bring your own wine/beer = big win ) * Huge menu--seafood, ribs, BBQ, pulled pork, chicken, desserts... you name it Final verdict: (three thumbs up from Debbie & me) If you're in Hilton Head and even thinking about seafood--this is a hidden gem you don't want to miss.
