For the last 4 times I have been there bringing in many guests for dinner, the greeting was unfriendly, the service was subpar and with an attitude. Each time all the people in the party noted that if the hostess was a personal friend of the guests, the greeting was very nice. Not so much if you didn't know the young hostess. We were told to stand over by the bathroom Bc we were early. (2mins early). We weren't offered anything to drink. Just please stand over there. We were seated late on a reservation and when we went to order, they were out of each item we chose both food and wine. We weren't told this upon arrival. The food was just fair. Undercooked and bland. With the unfriendliness combined with the food issues, i am sad to say I would not recommend the restaurant anymore. Once my go to and recommended it regularly. Probably one of the best restaurants in Moscow. I was walking by checking the menu and the chef/owner actually came out to talk to me, telling me the specials, handing me a business card, seasonal menu flyer, etc. Now that's cool! Still had a few hoops to jump: 1) convincing my ultra picky eater brother to come here and 2) making reservations (!!!) so he wouldn't get upset if there was a wait. Check and check. I had a glass of the local Idaho Three Horse Ranch Viognier ($8) which was quite tart and tangy. The arugula salad ($8) with roasted beets, walnuts and goat cheese was pretty unoriginal, but the ingredients were high quality. The vegetables all seem to taste different in Idaho, in a good way. Maybe it's the soil? The arugula especially, seemed super vibrant - more peppery than its Cali cousin. For mains we got the mac and cheese ($9), highlighted with cougar gold cheese (local cheese), aged gruyere and parmesean and the halibut ($24) with local heirloom tomatoes and local fennel. The mac and cheese was super creamy and the cougar gold has a nice cheddar flavor. The halibut was perfectly cooked, just a too salty and the fennel saute was a nice touch! The desert was something special: huckleberry cobbler with huckleberry chantilly ($6). I heard chantilly and my ears perked up - this is a desert item in Greece similar to whipped cream. Nectar's version was thick and tangy, almost like yogurt, with big chunks of huckleberries. The actual cobbler's only downfall was its microscopic portion size. Wow. We ate here on Saturday (at 5pm), and had one of the best meals we've had in quite a while. The atmosphere was fun. The chairs are obviously old, and all mismatched, but the ones we sat in were quite comfortable. The tables look out on the sidewalk and the traffic, so that is fun. The wait staff seemed to be working as a team. Other staff, as they were walking by, would refill our glasses, or make eye contact. If we actually needed anything (we didn't), it's obvious they would have been happy to help us. Our waitress was quite personable and competent. Our water glasses were full consistently, which is our measure for success. (On a side note, I like that the water comes without ice. Neither of us like ice. It felt like we were back in Europe.) I had the $11 flight of reds from Eagle Idaho. It was 3 glasses with 2 oz pours. It went well with the halibut skewers with lemon sauce that we started with. My partner chose poorly on his riesling, but that's not the restaurant's fault. The appetizer was great. Then, on to the main dish, oh, but wait. The chef surprised us with a little bread concoction he made. Apparently he had some dough left over, and he he was trying something on us and another table. It was two heavenly puffy pieces of herbed bread with a carrot and something else pureee. Delightful, and it made us feel special. Now the main course was delightfully presented. I had the Filet Mignon, rare. It melted in my mouth, and my partner had salmon. He too thought it was amazing. Then, time for desserts. We both decided on the peach cobbler, after getting told that the shortcake had just been made an hour ago. I wish I had the recipe for that shortcake! And the waitress made sure to emphasize that the peaches were grown locally. Overall, a very good experience. All of that came to less than $100, including the tip (we tipped at 20%). I was so surprised to find this little gem in Moscow. It was very sophisticated. I did not have a reservation, but they were able to get us in right away (there were only two in my party, but it was handled very nicely.) The waitress was warm and full of information. She made recommendations for us and was willing to talk about the food and ingredients. The menu was varied and covered all aspects that I could hope for. There were great starters, salads, and mains. We started with a well balanced and refined cheese plate. There was a beautiful piece of fresh honeycomb on the plate which was a perfect accompaniment to the blue. My dining companion had the chicken and I had a Caesar salad. I enjoyed my salad, but my companion won this meal. He had the chicken and it was out of this world. The description on the menu did not look like anything special. However, the dish that was delivered to the table was well balanced and an absolute pleasure to eat. After our dinner we were going to have some coffee and desert, but unfortunately, they do not have an espresso machine...but no worries they sent us to their sister restaurant...where... We swung in for happy hour and left as huge fans of Nectar. We had a meat and cheese platter that was absolutely wonderful!! I love goat cheese and prosciutto so they won me over right away. We also got a side of mac and cheese made from the WSU Cougar gold cheese that was divine. I love that they use mostly local fresh ingrediants. My husband was ecstatic to see they had Bellingham's Boundary Bay IPA on Nitro. This is fantastic and not something you can find anywhere else on the Palouse. They have a fantastic local wine selection that I will going back to try. I can't wait to go back for a full dinner! It's a very intimate atmospher and a nice change of pace for this college town. I haven't sat outside on the sidewalk patio but I look forward too doing so this summer. read more

Really 4.5 stars...what I really like is that they use local ingredients and their food is fantastic, seasonal, and incredibly affordable! Their mac and cheese is heavenly, I get it every time, as a trip to nectar is now a weekly occurance for me. Their meatloaf...well lets say they'll make you a meatloaf believer if you weren't already! Its wrapped in pancetta with a wonderful BBQ sauce....amazing. Salads are good also. Their skewers are great and their deserts - all AMAZING!! A wonderfu local wine list. I'd recommend the tasting menu, its a very nice compliment to a meal. I go and sit at the bar, the staff is super friendly, along with the owners, and they all make you feel welcome! read more

I. Love. Nectar. It is hands down one of the best restaurants in the Palouse. All the food is local, which makes it really easy to support Nectar, even though it's a teeny bit pricey (for a college student, in this area, I mean). The mac and cheese is to die for, and the cheese plate appetizer is divine; it's served with honeycomb! I'm a lover of cow, so I find the burger enjoyable, but the filet mignon is really where it's at. Nectar uses the freshest, most tender, most buttery, most delicious meat I've EVER tasted. And the creme brulee, with caramelized honey (!) on top, is the most perfect creme brulee I've ever had. And I've eaten a lot of creme brulee. Lastly, the staff at Nectar is superb. Everyone is so nice and fun and accommodating. In short, Nectar is one of my favorite restaurants in Moscow! read more

This was pretty rough, not going to lie. It is getting 2 stars because some of the food was good, and one of the drinks were good. A lot went on here so I'm going to list things in a more bullet point fashion. -First bartender was nice, I knew the guy from back in high school in a different state so he said first drink for me was on him. Super nice -First drinks come out, mine and my sisters are good, if small. Whatever its a cocktail. My moms drink comes out half (not an exaggeration) filled in the glass, he said he spilled it, and instead of making her a new one he served it anyways and said he would only charge her 2/3 price. Weird -She tries it, and says there is no alcohol in it, so she orders a shot to go in it. It was a tequila based drink. He doesnt ask what kind of tequila, just pours her a shot of mezcal (in a cute lil glass) and asks us about food. -We are interested in the special - theyre out. We ask about the fried garbanzo bean appy - theyre out. We ask about the crab cakes (fish special) - theyre out. We ask about another thing that I cant remember and you guessed it - theyre out. Frustrating, especially since we were not let known that till we asked about each special one AND the special was still on the board in chalk (plz just erase if its gone) -We decide to get the chacutterie board and some clams while we decide on our entrees (they have it Yay!), and I ask for gluten free bread for the clams if they have it "Sure, no problem". They come back 15 min later and say theyre out of GF bread. K -Food comes out, everything is tasty. Awesome! -First guy leaves, we get a new bartender. -I remember I'm low on data and ask about the wifi - theyre out. (She said it wasnt working rn) alright. -New bartender takes our entree orders. 1 burger, 1 risotto, 1 grilled carrots thing, and 1 meat skewers. -We finish the appys and she asks us about new drinks. My mom tastes some wine, and orders it. They bring her the wrong wine, that was not the one she tasted. She says something, and they bring the right one & take the other one away. -I ask what drink would she recommend. She says this new green tea enfused drink that should be on the menu, but they had a typo on the menu so its not entirely on there. I say okay great! Sounds refreshing. -This drink is horrendous. It tastes like a gritty, dirty leaf, and is terrible. She sees me not excited and says she can make a new one. I say okay thank you that would be great! She asks which one, I say huckleberry lemon G&T on the menu. okay great. -Next drink comes out, its weak, its got blueberrys instead of huckleberries, and its 2/3 ice. Its not my fav, but it doesnt taste like a dirt leaf and I've already gotten a new one made so whatever. -Food comes at all different times. Carrots first - not many but tasty. Skewers next (halfway done with carrots) - tasty but not a lot of meat. good sauce. Burger next - good, but not worth the price. Side kale salad is delish. (Skewers & carrots are gone). Risotto comes 10 min after burger - scalding hot, very bland, and not a lot of the vegetables that were a big part on the menu. (Burger is 2/3 done, everything else is gone) -They ask about dessert, the two that looked good (one of which still on the chalk board) were - out. -We ask for check. -Check comes and has ALL drinks including the first comped drink, 2/3 no alc drink, wrong glass of wine, the terrible dirt leaf drink. -We're so frustrated we just pay because the woman would not come back when we tried to wave her down (We are literally sitting at the bar), and leave. Very frustrating. Will not be back, but the kale salad was tasty. read more

This is the best restaurant I have been to in the Moscow/Pullman area. The atmosphere is amazing, with a small dining area and twinkle lights. I would label this as a wine bar and they have a pretty good selection of different wines. I believe I had a Riesling on my visit. I am a vegetarian which makes it rather hard at times to order off a small menu like the one at Nectar, but they are quite veggie friendly. I eat fish in restaurants so I ordered a crab cake and their house salad. Both of which were outstanding. My boyfriend ordered a steak that was cooked to perfection and the sides were wonderful as well. I would love if they had a banquet room or a larger area to accommodate larger groups, but the coziness does add the romantic charm. I would recommend Nectar to anyone! read more

This place is expensive for moscow, its kind of the "fine dining place". We started with the cheese plate which was great. The main courses were not good. I ordered the burger (I'm a sucker for gourmet ground beef), my boyfriend ordered the meatloaf. Both were way overdone. The burger was burnt around the edges, and so was the meatloaf. Meh. The restaurant was candle lit which I absolutely loved. The waitress was attentive and very nice! When I first saw the Mac and Cheese bowl, I thought it was small and was completely WRONG! They give me so much creamy, delicious pasta that I couldn't even eat it all in one sitting. There is a reason why this bowl is such a hype, it's one of the best things on their menu. Unfortunately, it took at least 30-40 minutes to get our food (two Mac and Cheese bowls). Maybe that's a good indicator that everything was freshly prepared, but I was starving and it wasn't that busy. So, I just didn't think it would take THAT long. As a local, the menu is starting to feel a little stale, but you probably won't complain about the selection or the food if you are just passing through. This quaint little restaurant is a MUST if you stop in Moscow. Great place for a date, or a get together with a small group of friends - warm atmosphere, great ambiance and service! For appetizers, we got.. -Lil Mac: cougar-gold mac was just cheesy goodness with the right amount of texture from the baked cheesy breadcrumbs! -Artisan cheeses: Brie, goat cheese, (& one more, I forgot) with honeycomb served with as much bread as you want. YUM cheeses!! However, we didn't expect such a large amount of cheese for 2 people; coupled with the slow pacing of the entrees coming out, I was almost satiated from the apps alone! For entrees we got the honey wrapped meatloaf and grilled lamb chops with couscous, both were excellent! And we couldn't go home w/o dessert:creme brulee (ohhh sooo delicious!) and the flourless chocolate cake with salted caramel drizzle (a small slice but packs a punch)! We had ordered a smorgasbord of sorts which included the following: lil' mac (comforting classic mac & cheese), grilled flat bread pizza (rustic made pizza with butternut squash, caramelized onions, goat cheese), spinach salad (strawberries, caramelized pecans, local spinach), black bean burger (caramelized onions, arugula, sweet pickle aioli). For dessert we tried the local honey creme brulee (favorite) and strawberry rhubarb (both were heavenly) Recommend trying the redbridge beer (gluten-free)! Easily a favorite! Best Meatloaf IN THE WORLD!!! Of course my husband ordered it, not me. I hate meatloaf, so I thought I would do it safe and order fish, which was great!!! The meatloaf takes the cake though, or should I say, loaf!! Haha, sorry. Their meatloaf became one of the BEST dinners I have ever had. The crust on it is just to die for!!! Staying in town for a couple days so decided to have dinner there. Cute place. We were seated on the patio, given menus and water and there were 2 other tables with patrons. The waitress came out, checked with the 2 tables, did not look our way. She went back inside. Another table was seated and she came out took their drink order, again did not look our way. Came back out with their drinks, took their food order and left. Again-did not look our way! We got up and left but not without letting the gentleman who seated us to begin with why we were leaving. Welcome to my TED talk..... To start off, the food and atmosphere is AMAZING! However, the service is awful. I went for my first time for a friends birthday in September. There was hardly anyone dining that night, considering it was a Tuesday afternoon, but we were seated at 5:30 and didn't even order our meals until at least 6:30. By then, we all needed refills on our drinks and no one would come by to take our drink orders or offer refills. We ended up finishing our meals around 8 and when we got our bill, nothing added up. We had items on our ticket that we didn't even order, along with the wrong count of everything we really did order. I gave them a second chance this last weekend because I had family in town and wanted to treat them to a nice meal. I was let down once again. They sat us at the most awkward table outside where we could hardly have a conversation with the person across from us, because the table was so odd. Also, they only have one restroom so my mom was in a line that went through the entire restaurant for about 30 minutes. She missed our whole dinner waiting in line to use the bathroom. Poor service and they take on far too many customers that they can't accommodate half of them. They should really rethink some things. read more

The night we were in Moscow Nectar's special was a meatloaf sandwich. It was a great deal, came with a drink (I had a beer, the wife a glass of wine) a salad and the meatloaf sandwich. The service was attentive and the food was delicious. Cozy atmosphere with a great wine selection. Three of the four of us ordered the daily specials. Unfortunately they had just ran out so reluctantly, we ordered other meals. However, it was a win, win situation. The other special offered was beyond amazing. Nectar was refreshing place to dine in Moscow. Prices probably keep the college kids away, unless they come with their parents. Another reviewer wrote something about there finally being a grown ups restaurant in Moscow, and I believe they were correct. Small menu, but great choices. I had the Salmon which was cooked perfectly, the sides excellent as well. The restaurant was busy so service was a little slow. Being there by myself probably made this more noticeable, however if I was with friends I wouldn't have minded much. For dessert I had a English toffee bread budding. All I can say is amazing. I spent years going to this place during my University career. I never left disappointed, The two biggest favorite I had were the meatloaf, which brought a gourmet twist to an otherwise traditional meal, as well as the baked macaroni and cheese, which had some wonderful local cougar gold cheese in it. I was highly impressed with their wine list, and over time was able to try at least 10 wines, and loved every one of them. I was fortunate to get to know one of the owners, Brett, who before I moved to live in France for a year, had me try their Crème Brûlée, to see if any I had in France could top it, non could. Another wonderful gem located in Moscow Idaho, with great people serving great food. Cannot share enough praise for this place and the people behind scenes. Cheers. read more

I really love this place. I recommend getting a "flight" of wine. They usually have 2-3 to choose from and you get to sample 2 oz of three different wines in the same family. They usually have a red and a white and sometimes a sampling from a specific winery. A flight is usually around 18 bucks. It is great for people new to wine or that wish to branch out. We have gone and ordered the meat and cheese plate and have a fun little wine tasting several times. It is nice to start a night in Moscow off that way. The service has always been super pleasant for me. Very attentive but not pushy every time I have gone, even when we don't order an entree. I am a student and they have never, ever hassled me. Their cocktails are out of this world! They're inventive and intriguing, making new cocktails regularly and pulling classics that have been lost. It's going to be difficult to express how much I love this place! I have tried many of the menu items and will agree with other reviewers that the burger is amazing; Cougar Gold Mac & Cheese is the best version I've tried; and even tho I'm not a huge meatloaf fan, you have to try Nectar's meatloaf! I have tried many other items and have always been thrilled with the food so don't feel limited to the above mentioned items! If you want small-portioned, pricey food with a pretentious attitude, this is your place. My wife and I ate here this evening for the first time, and were disappointed. Our bruschetta appetizer was tiny and pricey -- three small pieces of bread. Our cheese appetizer was tiny and pricey -- and no explanation from our waiter as to which cheese was which. (He also had only mentioned today's specials after we asked about it, and he seemed much more interested in helping people at other tables than us.) Our bacon-wrapped meatloaf was well-portioned and not too pricey -- a solid dish. But our food took a long time to arrive. Like, a LONG time. Long enough that we considered just leaving $10 behind for the first appetizer, walking out the door, and grabbing food on the way home to get our toddler from the babysitter. Long enough that we actually considered going to the BBQ place across the street. Was the food good? Yes. Will we return? Probably not. If I want overpriced, pretentious food that's delivered to me painfully slowly, I'll just wait until the next time I'm in San Francisco. read more

Stopped by for drinks and some appetizers. The drinks were fantastic, I highly recommend the "What happens in Vegas" cocktail. White cranberry white a cucumber purée. Sounds strange but it was so refreshing! I'd recommend skipping the bread and fries if you are hungry. We have loved this place. Often in Moscow for work and it has been our "go to." Sadly, they are losing ground. Items coming off the menu not being replaced. Same "special" for a week...how many ways can you use cod? Special offerings are much more limited. Looks like financial issue. I feel for their staff - which is always amazing...the best. No one likes to be the messenger for this type of thing. Also have watced staff run to the hotel numerous times on a busy night for ice. Saw a staff person drinking out of a pitcher of water in the kitchen tonight. Hope that is just his. Food that they present is still lovely and delicious. Drinks are great. Not impressed. The menu is tiny and, I'm told, neither changes nor grows. The portions are ridiculously small while the price tag is large. The cocktail menu was bigger than the food menu (and quite pretentious). Coffee was nasty and had to beg for milk to put in it. Had no silverware. Chairs were uncomfortable. Will not be back. And, apparently, these owners also own another restaurant in town (I'm new here). I'll have to figure out which one that is and avoid it, also. What a shame. Pre-COVID, we didn't like eating inside because of the noise; too many people in a small space, brick walls, and sometimes loud music--result was you couldn't carry on a conversation. But outside was fine. However, we got take-out yesterday (August 2020) and were very disappointed: meat loaf not good (anymore?) and Caesar salad, tiny and boring. $15 each. Food was good. Cozy atmosphere. I went with my boyfriend around dinner time it was mildly busy. It took close to and hour for our food to come. I watched a family come and sit down and get their food and leave and then 20 minutes later our food arrived. The waitress didn't mention it or check in with us really until a couple minutes before our food was ready. Took forever for the check to come. This is a decent recent but we probably won't come back due to this experience. Try and go when no one is in there. read more
