I've been to Neighborhood Café, or Neighbor's as my wife and I call it, several times. All for breakfast, usually on a Sunday morning after a fun Saturday night. If you are looking for low-carb, healthy options, you will probably want to look elsewhere. The meal starts with complimentary cinnamon rolls, which are delicious! I usually get the chicken fried chicken with American fries (diced potatoes) and gravy. Hits the spot everytime! Always friendly and attentive service! Prices are reasonable. Very old school atmosphere with old newspaper clippings adorning the walls. I haven't tried lunch/dinner here, but after trying the chicken fried chicken, I'm sure they make a great sandwich, tenderloin, burger, etc. Get there early to avoid the rush! read more

This cute little gem of a cafe was sweet. The crowd was definitely more "mature" and all seemed like regulars the way they & waitstaff were interacting. Sat down and was greeted with water and CINNAMON ROLLS!!! They were warm, sweet, gooey & delicious. Coming from a sweet tooth, a cinnamon roll to start with... SOLD!!! Lol I ordered the hamburger steak for lunch, with a side of peas & carrots & a chicken vegetable soup. Soup was tasty, peas and carrots were typical (and my favorite mix of veggies, btw) Hamburger steak was a bit under seasoned, which was disappointing. It was smothered in brown gravy, grilled onions & mushrooms. I was hoping for some mouth watering flavor filled goodness, but the flavor was just meh. The person I was with ordered biscuits and gravy with hash browns and said it was very tasty. I first visited Neighborhood Cafe about two months after moving here. I had seen a recommendation on Nextdoor urging people to go try it. Once I walked in, I was a little hesitant on what I should expect since the carpet looked a little rundown and the setting looked like it hadn't been updated in years. Nevertheless, I was taken to my seat and given a menu. Before my order arrived I was pleasantly surprised to learn that they serve warm cinnamon buns with every order! The vibe here is totally old-school, mom and pop, small town diner. Upon being seated we were each brought a warm homemade cinnamon roll. It was delicious and reminded me of my own homemade cinnamon roll. The coffee was legit good as well. I ordered the basic eggs Benedict and my husband ordered an omelet with hash browns and asked for his to be extra crispy. The waitress kindly obliged, but when the food came out, the hash browns were cooked exactly like mine and I had barely any hollandaise sauce on my Benedict. I asked the server more more hollandaise and she kindly brought more. When we got the bill, I was charged .50 for the extra hollandaise sauce. The food was subpar in my opinion. OH MY GOODNESS.. My husband and I have been here a few times now-we would go so much more if we lived closer. Everything I have had here has been amazing, including the food I've tried from what my husband has ordered. I had their breaded tenderloin sandwich today, and it was HUGE(bigger than my head) and DELICIOUS!! I mean SO good- I still have half and would probably eat it if my stomach could bear it. This was my first time in Kansas City and I looked this place up and the ratings were good so I figured why not give it a try. I didn't have to wait long, I liked the fact that their was a cinnamon roll waiting at my table when I arrived. The server was a younger guy and he was a tad bit excited, I don't like to be rushed, I guess since it's not a big place they feel the need to be a bit pushy so that they can get people in in out. I asked for a cup of ice and a cup of orange juice like I do at any restaurant I go to that way I get a full cup of orange juice. My server brought the orange juice and the cup of ice and disappeared and I was wanting napkins and he was no where to be found so another server was passing by so I asked if she could give me some napkins so I could use them to clean up a small mess and she said sure and came back and poured water in my cup of ice and walked away. I sat there trying to figure out how she got water out of napkins, they are in no way similar in sound, I guess she was just trying to pacify me so I wouldn't ask her for anything else. Then when the male server finally did return with my food I asked for napkins and he brought some over. Someone next to me asked for a refill on their coffee and by the time he brought it back they had almost finished their food. I ordered French toast with fruit and it was very delicious, too bad the service didn't match the taste of the food because had it this would haven been a smash hit. I feel if you are serving at a restaurant and you are trying to be a decent server it isn't bad to ask for help, I think this young man was in over his head. I only had coffee and pie here. Coffee was good. I had cherry ala mode. The pie was average. It was served cold, not heated. I'll give them bonus points for rhubarb and gooseberry pie. The decor was typical diner. It appeared clean. I really enjoy diner food and neighborhood establishments like this but there has to be something very special about them for the restaurant to survive and it's most likely not the cherry pie. I think places like this should focus on a limited menu and make the food and service really special because we can get average at just about any chain. read more

I've got to say, Neighborhood Cafe definitely has the local feel and amiability of a local restaurant. I've gone there multiple times since my kids like it. To me the food doesn't look that appealing so I don't end up ordering anything, however, at times I return for it's great value and customer service. I was surprised to see a large burger and fries cost less than $10, and ontop of that my son and I tried it and it was pretty good. Only downside to the place is the run down and outdated scenery including the tables and carpet. However, the food and service is pretty good. read more

This is my fifth time here and each time, the service has been outstanding and the food has always been great each time. Now I must say that I have only had breakfast. We tried the café for the first time today. Interesting experience! We were greeted with a smile and told me we would have a table in less than 10 minutes. We were sat within five minutes. Our waitress was full of personality personality personality! She was smiling, energetic, positive and bubbly! The free cinnamon rolls were a nice touch. My spouse particularly love them... Said they tasted just like his mother's! The food came in a timely fashion. He ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs. The biscuits were fresh and moist. The gravy was nothing to write home about. We would both recommend always ordering the gravy on the side. It does tend to taste prepackaged. I ordered a breakfast platter number one. The eggs were actually made to order! Very impressed! However, they were certainly not local eggs. This is a place that would do very well with farm to table produce! The turkey sausage was on the dry side but edible. Toast was fine. Nice little restaurant located in downtown Lee's Summit Missouri. This place has good food and fast friendly service. You get a complimentary cinnamon roll to eat while waiting on your order. The cinnamon roll is delicious. It is soft and warm with lots of cinnamon and a glaze that doesn't overpower the rest of the flavors simply just melts in your mouth. On this particular day I had a special of 2 blueberry French toast, 2 eggs,and a slice of ham. The Blueberry French toast was quite flavorful with the blueberries baked right into the bread.
