This review is long overdue, as we have eaten here many times. Let me first say that this location has been owned by the same family for 36 years, and the success and longevity tells you that they are doing a lot of things right. The name might cause one to believe it's a pizza restaurant, which it is. The pizza here is very good and even the most discriminating pizza connoisseur will not be disappointed. But this restaurant is not just about pizza. They do have a full menu and the salads are very good and the portions are huge. Most people get full with just the *small" portion option on the menu. They also have a full service bar and cold beer on draft, as well as bottles. There are several TV's throughout the restaurant and they will usually accommodate you to find the game you want to watch if it is in their subscription package. The only "negatives" are the fact that there is no wifi, no jukebox, no NFL Sunday Ticket and they are closed on Monday. But none of those issues are enough to take away from a 5 star review, as they do deserve it. Stop in and say hi to Brian and Sheila, the owners. We have lived in Chandler since 2018 & drove past Nello's a few hundred times but never stopped. We have tried a few other pizza places in the area & none, I mean NONE, compare to Nello's. Well, we finally stopped in 5/31 & 6/4, and we could not even wait a week. It's that good. LoL Both times were EXCELLENT! The first time we ordered a pizza, a huge small salad & drinks, we took half of the food home! (Got full) The second time, we ordered just a pizza & drinks; we killed it! Nello's provided a great experience! We weren't required to wear masks and I LOVED that. Felt good to feel free again I forgot what we ordered but every item was delicious. The regular crust pizza was a bit thick but made the price well worth it. The service was great. The server made sure to check on us several times and made sure our waters and drinks were full. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, great food, decent beer selection, mostly typical domestic but a couple good local craft. Only gripe is that the don't know how to cut thin crust pizza tavern Chicago style, and they're a Chicago's based pizza joint. For cryin out loud cut the thin crust symmetrical. The small pizza should be a tic tac toe cut not 1/4 inch slivers of pizza, and same with larger thin crust sizes. read more

I loved this place! This was my first time here and I was pleasantly surprised! Nello's has a lot of great quality options for everyone. They have been around for a long time as well showing perseverance, customer loyalty and good management. Even during these times, as the servers were hustling around being short staffed, the team seemed happy. I got a light lunch today, with some garlic bread to start and a the Apple and Gorgonzola Salad. I loved every bit of it. I especially love how much of the toppings were in the salad, not drenched in dressing either. I was surrounded by people at the bar who had come to know the owner or had been coming here did years showing me that this place has been doing something right for a long time (I think since like 1987 or something like that?). New favorite pizza spot! We've had their Numero Uno, The Skinny, and their Enchilada pizzas. Highly recommend all of them. I love that they have the option to do deep dish (original) or their thin crust. I'm normally not a fan of deep dish pizza but Nello's has changed my option! This place is as good as I'd heard. We came here for a day-late birthday dinner for my middle daughter/Father's Day dinner for her husband. She and his six-year old daughter ordered a Hawaiian style with pineapple and ham, he and I got the Margherita Pizza with garlic, tomatoes, olive oil, fresh basil, mozzarella, and romano cheese. Both were so delicious! He also got some chicken wings which were tender and juicy and not spicy at all, dipped in either of two great sauces, ranch or marinara. The pizza's were about $13 each for the larges. I usually have no problem quitting after two slices but the flavor squishing around in my mouth was so good I couldn't resist taking a third piece at this place. The decor was pretty and the service was great--the server checked back several times to see if we were doing okay or needed anything. I would definitely be a regular if I lived near here. The pizza crust was difficult to chew. Couldn't differentiate between the half that had mushrooms and the half that had pepperoni. Outer edge was dry but middle was okay. Btw, I hardly ever deviate from that pie. The crust was thin, crispy and very tasty. Just enough crunch. They cut it in squares so they are two to three bite friendly. . I also tried the spinach salad on recommendation from a coworker! Yep hands down a great salad. Lots of fresh green spinach, bacon, egg and maybe onion but I can't remember. I also tried the house dressing from the same recommendation. Shazam! Their house dressing is sweet, savory and nothing like a traditional house dressing. Loved it. We've been eating Nello's Pizza for years although not very often. We've also been doing a lot of takeout during the pandemic and prefer to support local restaurants. Tonight was "kids' choice" and they chose Nello's. Cheese, Hawaiian, and BBQ pizzas were all tasty. That original crust is still great. My issue wasn't with the food. Upon arriving to pick up the pizzas, the floor markers that were once there to promote social distancing were gone. The bartender was wearing her mask UNDER HER CHIN. Really? Good food great service. I love their pizza sauce. My granddaughter is anted to try eggplant parmigiana so we shared. Not a fan. The sauce was too thick and gummy like it had been in the pan too long although it was 4:30. So yesterday's sauce maybe? The salad was not a disappointment! Huge and there were 6 of us who ate salad with a large salad. I really like their house dressing. It is very different and went well with our choice. The poor couple next to us got the same size for 2 people with pizza. They maybe still eating that salad 2 weeks later! Never leave without pizza from here. This place is amazing! My husband and I were you in PHX for a week for some appointments, so had to do a lot of takeout to eat in our hotel and Nello's did not disappoint. Favorite meal of the week, by far! We had the deluxe combo and BBQ chicken pizzas on the gluten free crust and both were amazing. The homemade sausage on the deluxe combo was BOMB. First off, the lunch staff is very friendly and great at customer service. The food, well it's been over 20 yrs since I'd been there and the portions huge, tasty & priced very reasonable. I had the penne pasta for lunch and it was ok, a little too runny as the pasta wasn't drained properly, but the sauce & texture/taste was good. My wife's Italian sub sandwich had very little meat on it. That was kinda disappointing. Overall I thought it was a good price point for a solid not spectacular Italian food lunch. So after 5 years of the above, we purchased two gluten free pizzas, one 14" thick pizza, lasagna and the anti-pasta salad to-go. The entire family to a person is underwhelmed. The food is bland/tasteless. The cheese and crust are unremarkable. The sauce has a sweetness to it, which means sugar content is probably high. The Gluten Free pizza is as good as GF gets. But celery in the lasagna when it's not in the menu description, really? We transport boxed pizza home frequently enough to know that Chicago styled pizza shouldn't be soggy & limp despite its toppings. Total damage was $69. Lesson learned... read more

I remember Nellos opening up in the mid 1980's in Tempe. Best pizza in town. The pizza is still outstanding but the service is terrible. They say they're open until 9:00 pm we went in at 7:50 and all the chairs were up and they were closing down. I asked the girl behind the bar if they were open and she said that they're "closing early because no one has been coming in. Sorry". Same thing happened last time we were in. This is a very casual spot with high end tasting cuisine and generous serving sizes. The small salad was enough to feed 4 adults a side of salad. The meatballs are BIG. Used to love this place, but my opinion began to change when they switched to a pizza tomato sauce that tastes like Ketchup.
