As I was waiting for my pizza, I noticed in the kitchen nobody was wearing gloves when preparing the pizzas! One lady touched her face then continued to make a pizza. A gentleman lifted his hat, scratched his head, then continued to prepare a pizza! If this was hand tossed pizza, it would make sense they wouldn't wear gloves. But when adding the toppings? Very nice pizza place. I'm a deep dish kindof girl but Nello'svdeep dish crust is a little bready for me (not chewy or very pizza-like at all). I think I prefer the regular thin crust. All the pizza we have tried is still very good. One of the things that keep us coming back are the salads. What happened? We have eaten here too many times to count over the years but we give up. This place used to bend over backwards to provide good service and food. I can no longer speak to the quality of the food as we sat in our booth for 15 minutes without an acknowledgment. No drink order, no "welcome in". Nothing. A total of 5 tables - 4 jerk off "bartenders" behind the bar - who knows how many waiters because we saw zero. This used to be a go to spot for many but they are awful. Nello's is a must go for ourstanding pizzas!!! Like I literally meant it for approxiamtely 158%!!! Yum!!! I ordered a to-go for a tiny size pizza with pinapple and pepperoni on it! (I know...but I've always only eaten Hawaiian style so bear with me LOL) And to my surprise their pizza came out so filling and thick with a well breaded bottom layer! I really don't get pizzas when they came out thin to be honest. And this type totally served me beyond expectations! Loved how cheesy it was as well and one bonus for a tiny guy like me to be able to finally finish a meal that's to my portion and not having to waste any food. Also more economical as well! In all these years, I've never stopped at Nello's. Shucks! Very sad that I didn't because, their pizza is delicious. One of my besties invited me to an impromptu lunch and picked this place. I order the mini BBQ Chicken Pizza and it was very tasty. The crust was everything! Light, flakey and buttery. The sauce was flavorful with just the right amount of cheese. Our waitress was very accommodating and pleasant. The inside was very clean, but we sat on the outside. It was very open with no other patrons. I will definitely be back with the family to have them give it a try. I can see this as our new pizza spot. read more

Really nice whole in wall place. Seemed family owned but not sure, only went in for pick up. Called in to order, they were pretty cool on the phone and the guy was very patient with me (I know he was probably frustrated) my phones been acting up so he kept having me repeat myself. Was greeted upon arrival to the Togo stand :) still had to wait a minute or two to be helped.. that's cool they. Atleast the girl packing the boxes acknowledged me which means a lot.. and summoned someone to come help me. Pizza is great! If I lived closer, I would def come back... but we were just running errands and it was the first pizza place that came up in Google that wasn't ya local chain like Pizza Hut, pappa johns, Barro's, or any of that crap. This is the best Chicago style pizza that I ever had! I ordered their thin crust which had cornmeal under the crust, and I ask for pepperoni, bacon, onions and garlic. When they brought out my pizza, it was a thing of beauty. They put thick full slices of bacon that was crispy, the cheese stretches when I took a bite, and the tomato sauce tasted fresh because they don't use any tomato paste. Oh Nello she betta don't...but she did and it's fire. All surfaces, windows, and bathroom are clean. We were seated on the patio and it's beautifully adorned with foliage and kept warm with heaters. Decor is typical local pizza restaurant and there's a long, welcoming bar. Clientele is families and middle aged adults, steady flow of customers. Parking lot is spacious and well kept. Staff is very friendly, attentive, dressed appropriately, has good hygiene, interact well with each other. One of the staff members today even took the time to install a new propane tank for our outdoor heater. We ordered the garlic bread with cheese and marinara and the large, deep dish barbecue pizza; both were very good. The pizza crust was so light and flavorful and all the ingredients were fresh. Prices are reasonable and the quality of the meal was overall fantastic. Oh my next visit I wanna try the Hawaiian pizza. Tip: if you're a person that has to have wings with their pizza, unfortunately they don't sell wings. Hopefully in the future. We ordered our favorite, the tortellini toss salad to start, which was still listed on the menu. We were told by the server that they no longer serve it. If it's written on the menu and the website, it should still be available. The only reason we went to Nello's was for that salad. Apparently printing a new menu is too much of an inconvenience for the owners. We also ordered the enchilada pizza. The server told us that they didn't have guacamole available to order on the side for the pizza even though that too, was still an option on the menu. According to the server, who shall remain nameless, the new owners are trying to cut corners and a lot of people (customers and employees alike) are not happy about it. My husband and I have been going here for years, it's changed so much. They no longer have the wings that we would drive all the way across town for. HUGE disappointment. We haven't been in over a year so we decided to hop in on a Friday. To our surprise it was pretty slow in there. I understood as soon as we got our food. The pizza was lukewarm, no sauce at all and the crust/dough wasn't cooked. We spent 80$ on food to walk out hungry. I miss the old Nellos. The ambiance is what we go for and the tap beers, that's about all that is the same. Overall really enjoyed our experience here! The staff was friendly and food was great. Service was a bit slow, but I expect this on a Friday night and didn't mind. This would have been a 5-star experience if not for the outdoor heaters being broken. There were three heaters, and only one was working. In our case, that one was already in use at the far side away from where we were seated. We did not find out that the others were broken until after being seated when we asked about them directly. At this point, we were told that if we wanted to move inside, we'd have to get back on the 40-minute waiting list. It would have been great to at least have been given this heads up initially so we could have made a decision prior to being seated. No complaints around the rest of our experience here. After being a loyal customer for more than 30 years, I gotta say this may have been my last visit! Though the food is good, the service leaves MUCH to be desired! I came at 11:30 Wednesday. It wasn't busy. 3 tables and 3 people at the bar. I waited 10 minutes to get seat. 3 parties came in after I did. I was seated and then proceeded to watch the server take orders at the other tables and ignoring mine. I watched as she input the orders and flirted with patrons at the bar. I attempted yo get her attention multiple times and though she looked at me, refused to come to my table. I finally had to flag down the food runner to take my order. The food took forever. There was no apology of any kind. No attempt to interact or check on my table and food. Never checked for refills or check to see how it was! This has been the WORST experience ever! Nello's is (was) one of my favorite restaurants. I've been going for 30+ years - the people, food and ambiance have always been fantastic. It is under new ownership (Lillian?). I dined there tonight with my family and we won't be dining there again. Here are the details. We went in on a Friday night at about 7:30 pm. We ordered a couple of drafts and were told they were out of most options - only had 2 of 8 available. No big deal - we picked two that were availables. But it is very unusual for a restaurant to be out of options going into a busy weekend (1st sign). We ordered an Apple Gorgonzola salad, a large sausage pie, and an Italian Beef with cheese. The salad was outstanding. Unfortunately, the pizza was terrible - the crust was stale (day old), it was dry (no sauce) and the sausage was sparse (some slices only had 1 piece). It was inedible. The beef was tough (sliced with the grain vs. across the grain) and the Au Jus was bland. (2nd sign). I figured it was just an off night. I asked to speak with the owner/general manager. I was rudely told, "she is too busy to talk to you and said we can give you a 20% discount." At this point, there were only 6 tables and most of the staff had started their closing duties. (3rd sign) I paid my tab, left a nice tip for the waiter and asked him to toss the the leftovers. Quality, consistency and amazing customer service have been the cornerstones of Nello's success for 4 decades. Sadly, all of those principles seemed to have been lost with the new owner. read more

I've been going to Nellos intermittently for 30 years. Every time I remember this gem, I am pleasantly pleased with everything from the service, the salads, the pizza and prices. Really, this is a great little family restaurant. What's more, it has three seating areas to give you options for the size and accommodation needed for your party. The first big surprise you will hit is the amazing garden salad with the house dressing. My recommendation is to ask for it with added turkey. Sounds crazy but it is excellent. The house dressing is the best I've found anywhere. The second wonderful surprise is the great original deep dish pizzas. Great flavor, filling and perfect fresh toppings. Third, the servers are genuinely kind people. I've never had a bad experience and always leave feeling like we had a server all to our table. Finally the cost always feels like I somehow got a big discount or something. The bill is consistently less than almost anywhere else I go for similar items. I think this may be partly due to the fact that the salads are enormous (4 people can share a small!) and the pizzas are so tasty and filling. I generally order a small pizza, drinks and small salad for my wife and I, and we leave having eaten only half of the food and the bill is under $30. Love this place. Try it out. Really. read more

This review is long overdue, as we have eaten here many times. Let me first say that this location has been owned by the same family for 36 years, and the success and longevity tells you that they are doing a lot of things right. The name might cause one to believe it's a pizza restaurant, which it is. The pizza here is very good and even the most discriminating pizza connoisseur will not be disappointed. But this restaurant is not just about pizza. They do have a full menu and the salads are very good and the portions are huge. Most people get full with just the *small" portion option on the menu. They also have a full service bar and cold beer on draft, as well as bottles. There are several TV's throughout the restaurant and they will usually accommodate you to find the game you want to watch if it is in their subscription package. The only "negatives" are the fact that there is no wifi, no jukebox, no NFL Sunday Ticket and they are closed on Monday. But none of those issues are enough to take away from a 5 star review, as they do deserve it. Stop in and say hi to Brian and Sheila, the owners.
