Truly I paid half of what I was paying at competitors in the area, and it's locally owned! It feels good knowing my dollars are going into the community instead of an overpriced corporation. Adam was great - super attentive and knowledgeable. My car is close to 100k miles so I knew I was going to be due for some work, but I never felt pressured into getting any of it done. I have been in the auto industry for over 24 years and I have been in many service centers. St. Paul Automotive at 910 Randolph Street is one of the very best. The front desk staff is very helpful, honest and friendly. The reception area and the shop is super clean. The techs are thorough and do not push unnecessary repairs. I love and trust Lloyd's Repair Shop wholeheartedly, but they couldn't accommodate the heavy-duty extended-cab high-top van in need of urgent attention. Lloyd's gave two recommendations of shops that could accommodate the van's weight: Boyer and St. Paul Automotive. May I ask what the cost of inspection for repair would be? Likely between $80-$160, depending on how long it takes. Far better than the flat $200 at Boyer, and I'd held off to finally touch base with St. Paul Automotive* in my stubbornness of wanting to support little shops over commercial enterprises, so this worked out great. We dropped the van off after hours on Thursday for inspection and estimate once the shop opened, leaving the keys in the convenient drop box. Friday morning, the shop contacted. The part required for the van's coolant hose repair had been discontinued - the repair would need to be cobbled together. Estimate: $500-$600 including labor, with the note that repairs might not be done until Tuesday or after due to the weekend and Monday holiday. Clearly, this is going to take some time. The shop didn't stop there. They had gone through a comprehensive examination of the van and come back with a full list of areas that could use attention, complete with photos on an itemized list accessible via online link - love it. I approved only the urgent repair for time being. Half a day later, a text: Your van is ready for pickup. Wait, what? I was still occupied for the next half hour anyhow, so I requested to add one of those additional areas requiring attention to our approved list of work items. Just over another hour later, another text: Your van will be ready in 10 minutes. My group is about to head out to meet with more individuals to discuss project collaborations, and I don't want to pull away if I can help it. I text back: Could I pay online and just have the keys left in the van for pickup after hours? Another 10 minutes later, payment was processed, and the van was parked outside of the fenced lot for pickup per my request. Lloyd's remains my go-to spot, but if ever I have need of or cross paths with anyone in the Twin Cities requiring a heavy-duty vehicle lift to accommodate a hefty vehicle, I know exactly where I'm sending them. * If by chance you try giving them a call and it doesn't go through or you leave a message and they don't get back to you, either try again or email them. There's something wonky about the phone system at the moment. I'm glad I was persistent and chose to keep trying to reach them instead of simply going with Boyer as the easy alternative at that point. read more

Took my car in for a simple oil change, got a good coupon deal on it. The next day it was making some weird sounds, so brought it back on the next business day. They saw me immediately, and resolved the weird sound I was hearing.... which ended up being a giant seed from a tree wedged into the hubcap on my front tire making a grinding sound when I turned it. I stumbled on this place by receiving a mail notice for a special they were running for oil changes. I did not expect to get the experience I did. Upon arrival I was greeted by James. First let me say the customer service is awesome. Greeted upon entry and having pregnancy brain I forgot my coupon at home. James worked with me and still worked with me for a discount. I offered to drive the few minutes back home and he said it was ok. They are one of the companies that actually give you access to seeing the details of the work thru videos and photos and then giving you very detailed information about the additional work that needs to be done. James was very honest and told me that my work needs to be handled but that I had a little bit of wiggle room for time. Some places will rush you into it making it appear urgent to get more from you but he was forthcoming and told me the little available time. That was reassuring. I asked him for clarification on some things and he was patient and thorough with the information. When I have gone to get oil changes I always have to tell the people to recalibrate my notifications and I did not have to do that at all with them so that was appreciated for real. Definitely aspiring to return. It has a small business but customer focused feel. It gives very much "you are valued here" and I think when it comes to people paying for car maintenance that is extremely important. Do not know how much more or less they are in comparison to other businesses so if seeking those kinds of details would have to do research individually. read more

Came here with my 2014 Subaru Forester for the first time for an oil change. A team member said both my front and rear brake pads needed to be urgently replaced, and everything else on my car looked good as they did a free inspection. The next day I brought my car to Tuan Auto Repair, and he said my brake pads still have 50% life left, but I need a new ball joint and wheel bearing and hub assembly. Why did Saint Paul Automotive say my brake pads needed to be replaced within a few weeks, and they didn't notice I needed a new ball joint, wheel bearing, and hub assembly? I'm visiting from Chicago and noticed I had a tire with very low tire pressure. I assumed (correctly) that there was a screw or nail in the tire, which happens all the time where I'm from. I'm driving all the way home today with my children and clearly needed to get the tire fixed. A woman in my mom's condo building recommended St Paul Automotive. Not only was I in and out in 15 minutes, they didn't charge me for the repair! I can't promise you'll get the same speed (it's s quiet Thursday in the middle of the day) it cost, but Wendy was kind and compassionate and I'm good to go home! read more

The price was fair and the quality of work , communication, and customer service was excellent, especially compared to some of the other shops out there.
