I had dinner here tonight and the experience was horrible. I should've looked at reviews before eating here. The food was so bad. I ordered hibachi steak and the steak tasted like boiled beef that was cold. It was so tough I couldn't even chew it up. The rice was okay but the vegetables were also boiled with 0 flavor. Not hibachi at all. This meal was $10 and I could've gotten better food at the mall food court. I ended up throwing away the food and eating dinner at home. Everytime I eat here the food, especially the seafood taste like bleach or cleaning supplies . I called back in . The owner have me my money back but didn't make a fuss meaning to me that they know that they are trying to stretch the freshness of seafood with cleaning products damping down the odor. Not a do again. I ordered the shrimp tempura and a California roll. It took them 18 minutes to get me the order - I was the only one in the restaurant. The shrimp tempura - was not in a tempura batter - it was thick breading and it was way over cooked. The California roll it was ok but it had very little wasabi. it had very little ingredients and very little flavor. If I didn't have a pop up meeting I would have never had gone there. read more

They do have a unique twist on crabrangoons which is something to check out but all appetizers seem to be singular. I've eaten at Neo Japan several times. For a fast-food sort of place, the hibachi is decent. You get a lot of food for the price, and on most of my visits, there was a good balance of meat to veggies (I've mostly gotten the steak/chicken/shrimp combo). After the most recent visit this weekend, I got the impression that they're trying to squeeze costs--lots of rice and veg, but not much protein. I love good egg/spring rolls, which seem to be rare, but I'm always willing to give a new place a shot, so Linda and I ordered spring rolls. The roll itself was good--light and not soggy, but the filling was mostly an unidentifiable shredded vegetable, and far too sweet. Not recommended. We also ordered some vegetable tempura, and while it was okay, there were two problems: first is that it's not tempura. At least it's not like any tempura I've ever had. More like onion rings or battered & fried mushrooms from a bar. The batter was bready and very heavy, at least for tempura. They also didn't have tempura dipping sauce, which I've gotten with tempura everywhere else I've ever ordered it. They suggested the hibachi ginger or white sauces... Also not recommended. I've previously had their teriyaki chicken, and it was okay, but the sauce was too sweet. The dining room is large and open, but has fluorescent lights and is very acoustically reflective, which makes the ice-maker's noise that much more annoying. They get + points with me for serving Coke products, and the self-serve fountain was in good order. Bathrooms were decent and clean with hot water, although it was only a single-holer. Disgusting. My friend and I ordered hibachi chicken and the chicken looked, smelled and tasted like fish. One piece legitimately appeared it had a tail. It was either fish, or it was spoiled chicken. Either way, we each felt sick immediately following the meal. Ate there at 8:50 when they closed at 10:00 and one woman was stacking chairs giving us the death glare prompting us to leave. Why, by consulting online reviews, of course. Things to get: Hibachi Chicken, vegetables, shrimp, scallops Things to avoid: mostly everything else Things you might like if you like: Teriyaki is pretty good, but VERY sweet. If this is your thing, all of the same rules of hibachi apply. The steak is actually quite tasty if you can overlook the fat. Yes they use the cheapest of the cheap steak. No they don't trim the fat and no again, they don't really care if you don't like it. Still it tastes great, what actual meat there is. I love this place, but I also only get 2 things on the menu and for good reason. The rest just plain sucks. They are fairly cheap too at 7ish bucks a plate. read more

good place for terriyaki or hibachi dinner. very fast and not sparing on the amount. i always go with the hibachi chicken (sometimes w/ shrimp). their white sauce is pretty good so mix that up, youre good to go. shrimp was kinda small, vegetables can sometimes taste very mushy. read more

I frequent Neo Japan a lot for their hibachi, especially their lunch special which is a great $6 deal for a pretty large chicken hibachi. I enjoy their updated menu, it's cleaner looking and offers some new items like ramen and sushi although I have no idea how those would taste. Their service could be just a little faster, I always order ahead of time on the phone for pick up and still will end up waiting 15-20 minutes for my food. One time, they completely forgot my order I had called in and after five minutes of aimlessly searching for it, they decided to go ahead and just make me a new one which was fine. Except for I had driven all the way back home to discover they had completely forgotten the proteins on my order. It was a box of rice and sad looking broccoli. I wasn't happy about this is particular either because the entire time I had to wait for them to remake my order, the manager was fooling around in the kitchen. I drove back to get a remake and he was nice about it though. Would have appreciated a refund or something like that for the inconvenience but customer service is certainly not at the forefront for a spot like this. read more

I want my money back! I tried this for the first time today and it pushed me to write my first review ever. I literally spit out the crab rangoon which was completely inedible. The fried rice tasted almost burned and was little more than steamed rice mixed with soy sauce. The chicken teriyaki was more like a salt based ooze over undesirable parts of untrimmed chicken scraps. Absolutely god-awful. My date and I were late for a movie so we decided to stop really quick--we were the first order, but it still took about 20 minutes for us to get our food. Also, the girl at the counter was talking on a blue tooth the entire time and didn't even address us, except to tell us the total. My date had to grab his own cup because she was non-responsive as well. We each ordered sushi and I got vegetable tempura and he got white rice. The sushi was the pre-packaged kind and mine actually made me have a gag reflex. It was that awful. The tempura was also not tempura (like the reviewer before me said). It was very heavily battered and not with tempura batter. I won't reiterate everything they said, but suffice it to say, it was terrible. I ate one piece of broccoli, one piece of sushi, and threw the rest away. And I spent over 8 dollars on the meal, only to feel like I might throw up for an hour afterward... My date also got a Dr. Pepper from the machine and it was very poorly mixed or almost out of mix, and the root beer came out selzter water. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. I have officially had it with this place. I have tried, now 4 times to go there for lunch i work exactly 5 minutes away from this location. Today knowing they are SLOW as heck making anything, I ordered, went and got gas and returned. I placed my order at 6:18, when I returned both people working there were behind the counter with at least 8 orders were ready but neither of them would even look at me standing there at the counter! Flavor was ok and the rice was good, but I got the steak, and it was not well trimmed, so I ended up not eating probably 1/4 of my meat. I have also had better white sauce - this one was so sweet I felt like I was eating karo syrup. I also would have liked fewer onions and more zucchini in my veggie mix. YUCK!! This was my first and last time eating there. I was the only customer (which means they weren't busy) and I wanted to dine in. All of the tables were filthy. My food was not hot. I am a huge fan of the "white sauce" when I go to hibachi places. Their white sauce comes out a pump and when it dispensed, it came out separated and bubbly. As I was sitting at my filthy table disgusted wondering if I chance the bubbly white sauce, I heard someone from behind the counter clear a large "luggie" from their throat. That did it for me....I tossed my food in the trash. It was a waste of my money but I won't end up at the health dept in a few days!! read more
