Recently came here with a group of friends around the time of sunset. There were great views of the water and Skyway bridge on the second level of the hut. You truly come here for the views and experience of being near the water. There was only one server at the bar, which often caused a delay in service. She was perfectly good, but it was getting busier on a Saturday and she had little help. The drink prices are slightly above average and there isn't a great selection (think mostly domestics, basic liquor drinks, and a couple craft beers). All in all, it's a nice stop for a beer and beach/water views on a good Florida day. However, it's not a place I'd recommend for having dinner and staying a long time. read more

Felt like we were in a treehouse that provides spectacular views of the waterfront that just seemed to go on as far as the eye can see. Kind of a nice cross between a toes-in-the-sand beach bar and a rooftop bar. The Nepa Hut is located within the grounds of a two-story motel that has two swimming pools and shuffleboard on the grounds. So it is a little bit of a stroll from the parking lot to wind your way through the nicely paved patio and then make your way up a flight of steps. There is a wraparound porch with seats outside, bar-side seating inside and some hightop and chairs within the interior. The entire site is roofed and on a nice day it has a nice open air feel to it. Nothing fancy but just a terrific place to kick back, have a drink, enjoy the views and celebrate the lifestyle we get to enjoy in Florida. Stopped in for a few drinks with my boyfriend while on vacation to see him in St. Pete. Really enjoyed the view of the bay and the Skyway! Ordered a couple piña coladas, and sat back and enjoyed the beautiful weather and great atmosphere out on the deck! Much bigger than your usual beach tiki hut, so there was plenty of seating and it didn't feel too crowded. Will definitely be back when I come down for vacation next month, great place to stop in for some drinks and food if you need a bite to eat. Best kept secret of St. Pete as far as quaint beach bars go! This is of course just my opinion, based on my experience of being there for just about an hour. The bartender was really friendly and she made our visit fun and enjoyable. Can't wait to come back! read more

The Nepa Hut Beach Bar in Southern Saint Petersburg is the last bar before the bridge. Go past the lobby and through the Periscope Restaurant, continue outside around the outdoor pools and to the man-made​ beach sitting next to the Tampa Bay. With nearly panoramic views of the bay and the Sunshine Skyway Bridge connecting the peninsula to the rest of the state you have a choice to sit on a patio that circles the hut, or inside and away from the sun on stools around the bar. I'm so torn between giving this place a 2 star or a 3 star rating. I guess 2 star rating because the view is 5 stars all day yet it doesn't make up for the 0 star service and other factors. The worst part is that it has been that way for the past 5 years. Nothing changes there. Drink prices are too high and they have a VERY limited amount of taps - 5? Not a lot of seating and it does get busy in the summertime. Also, there can be a very interesting crowd since it's attached to the motel - think overweight Europeans in really small/tight swimsuits. Do yourself a favor and eat before you go - the food is terrible and comes all the way from the motel kitchen. This place could easily be a 4-5 star bar if they would improve the service, decrease their prices, offer decent food, increase the seating area (near the beach), etc, etc.... Tip: Try not to go during low tide or you're going to be unpleasantly surprised by the stench of drying sargassum weeds along the shore. read more

I really like the Nepa Hut! It is literally a little hut high atop stilts by the water with beautiful views of the Skyway Bridge and coast line. It's not fancy by any means. The crowd ranges from locals to vacationers (mostly European) to beach bums. It is definitely unique. They have a small food menu. Food is prepared at the hotel restaurant (not at the hut) and brought up in Styrofoam boxes. But don't let that fool you, their food is pretty good and the portions are huge. I like the veggie quesadilla! They also have drink specials at happy hour, I know it's $3 wells and wines, and I think $2 drafts (I don't' drink beer, sorry!) They also have Live music some nights. I know Thursday for sure, not sure about the other nights. The service is always pretty good. It does get busy sometimes and there is usually only 1 bartender taking care of the entire place, including the tables inside and out as well as the bar. There are also water sports like Jet skis to enjoy. I believe you have to call the office to book. I am also told they do the Sea Ponies here too, which I really want to try! No boat slips so it would be difficult to bring in a boat, but possibly jet skis or a small boat. Definitely a place to check out! Especially if you enjoy the beachy atmosphere, the Nepa Hut will take you there. read more

This is a nice low key spot to grab a drink or two or three! It's not loud and crowded. My husband and I typically stop in for a nightcap after dinner or going out. Brian is one of the best bartenders! He gets my drink right every time. They also have a restaurant downstairs that you order food from and have it sent up to the bar area. Having moved here 5 months ago I was lucky to find this hidden gem via Yelp a half mile from my front door. And I would have never known it was tucked in behind the Magnussen Hotel without Yelp guidance. It's a tiki style outdoor bar with spectacular views of Tampa Bay, cold beers, a routine foo foo drink selection, fair bar food and did I mention spectacular views? The crowd is a mix of hotel guests (an interesting group) and locals ( an interesting group - myself included). With local sports on the 4 corners TV's and cold beers and fantastic views it's a great escape, especially if you're nearby or just off a day of fishing. High maintenance - stay home. I would call this a dive, but an awesome dive. It's a quiet bar off the bay, behind a small "resort". The drinks are strong, the locals are friendly, and the view calming. Went with my dad and we spent a couple of hours there chatting and laughing, it was great. Love this place except when a certain bartender is working on Fridays. He ignores anyone that is not a regular or friend and always insinuates that you won't pay your bill if you start a tab. I never would have found this place, had my friend not invited me. This is a quaint spot tucked away on the back side of a hotel. The bar area has seating inside and outside with views of the water. Off the beaten path and hidden behind the Magnuson Hotel. You walk though the hotel lobby to get to it. As a tourist, I'd have never found it, but it was recommended by a resident.
