I love brunch and Neptune's is definitely the place to get some great food in Alameda. Their coffee is fantastic (get two straws if you're a slow drinker like I am...the paper straw will get mushy!) The waffles are both perfectly crispy and fluffy every time. Love their Aubrey Benedict as well. At this point in my life, most brunches taste the same to me. Some eggs, some potatoes, and some morning alcohol. I've started thinking about how breakfast foods could be a little more interesting, and as someone who doesn't believe the first meal of the day should be confined to specific foods, I must say Neptune's was a relief. A solid 3.5/5 stars of relief. Their dishes are very beautiful and decorated with microgreens and edible flowers, and their selection seems more experimental than other brunch menus, mixing in lumpia and elotes alongside waffles and benedicts. I ordered the shrimp and grits (and bites of other people's meals), and I definitely enjoyed the different tastes and textures. It didn't blow me away, and it was a bit overpriced, and it's true the wait can get pretty long. Sometimes it's just nice to get together with friends, laugh about a dude chugging a 2L of Squirt across the street, and feel like you don't have a weekend to-do list. I think that's what brunch is all about. Neptune's does a great job at fulfilling that role, and I would definitely come back here on another special occasion (it was a friend's birthday!) I'm taking the plunge and discovering something new, thanks Alameda participating in Restaurant Week, and a deep desire to try new establishment was at the top of both myself and my friends list. Restaurant Week has become so ingrained in our eating habits when mid-January rolls around I start to immediately look around on various city's websites to see if they are participating and luckily the quaint island city of Alameda is participating in this year's event and one of those restaurants was Neptune's, an American-style diner with an international twist on some of their dishes that is open for breakfast and lunch. They took an old Foster's Freeze location and I cannot describe the interior remodel job they did, fresh and lively with a nautical meets maritime theme, which fits in perfectly with Alameda's history as a major naval base. We came right at 9 a.m. and although the place was buzzing, but it wasn't one hundred percent full, so we were lucky to get a table in their inside dining room which unfortunately looked directly in the rising suns rays and they apparently don't have any shades to combat that so I literally had to run to my car in their parking lot to get my sunglasses to wear indoors to fight the brightness. As I said, we were here to try out what they had to offer for Alameda Restaurant Week and although they had many enticing options on their regular menu, we were committed. We did have to ask our server for that extra special menu as it wasn't presented with the regular menus when they sat us down to eat. For 22 dollars we got the option to order from a three course pre-fix menu, two options for their starter, four from their entrees, and two from their dessert menu. From their starters, we had the option of three Lumpias filled with Longanisa Sausage and a vinaigrette dipping sauce or Avocado Toast. I went with the lumpias and was not disappointed, as they were almost scalding hot as they were clearly fresh from the deep fryer but I loved the sausage inside which was hearty and flavorful. As for my entree, we had options of scrambled eggs, waffles, greens and beans and my selection of Neptune's Smash Burger served with all the fixings including Umami Mayo and sides of fries and house pickles. I though the burger was small but still decent, warm and somewhat juicy, I really liked the unique flavor profile when all of the ingredients were put together. For our third course we had the option of an affogato or their Turon Lumpia which was a banana lumpia with caramel sauce. Of course I once again went with the lumpia and was pleasantly surprised how delicious yet not overly sweet my three rolls were. I had so much food I had to take my two of my three appetizer lumpias to dine on later that night! A solid experience was had at Neptune's, a hip new restaurant in an area of Alameda where quite frankly there aren't that many to go around. Their executive chef was born in Hawaii and wanted the flavors in her food reflect her favorites that she encountered in her youth while living in different parts of the country. Her team has succeeded in bringing an eclectic menu that everyone can enjoy where clean good food is presented in a way that reflects the diversity of the Bay Area. read more

I was sad to see Foster's Freeze close down because I would go there almost all the time during the summertime when I was a little girl. But I was happy to see something new. I went here for breakfast with my friend. The place is beautiful with how it was designed. It's a cute little place to have a little breakfast date. I was greeted and the waiter was friendly. We looked at the menu and she told me the lumpia was good. I was looking over and it was a small little menu. And it looked like it was southern inspired food considering there was shrimp and grits. I was debating between the waffles or french toast. I decided to get the french toast and my friend ordered the sweet waffles. Our food came out and it was too pretty to touch. My french toast looked good and her waffles did too. It was topped with powdered sugar, fresh fruit, and whipped cream. I also asked for syrup on the side. Andrea and I have been here a couple times in the past but this weekend we are not in Napa or Vegas so we hit this 2 days in a row. Yesterday we shared the Persian Style Fritata which was great. I am a huge fan of fritatas. I am usually a straight bacon and eggs kind of guy but lately have been branching out. For beverages Andrea had the Prickly Pearmosa and I worked through the equivalent of a bottle of champagne, glass by glass, but hey they have unlimited Momo's so it's like I would like the bottomless Momo's.... Hold the OJ. Next day we both went for bottomless Prickly Pear and Momo's ( hold the OJ). I reverted to bacon and eggs but my partner had the Shrimp & Grits with the added fried oyster. Ok when you go there order this. I had multiple bites and this dish has amazing flavors in every fork. This dish has grits, Argentinian red shrimp, egg, cheese, basil oil and brekkie sauce (not sure what that is). Seriously, you need to try this!!! The service is great. Everyone is attentive and accommodating. There is an outside patio so bring the dogs, weather permitting. I have a lot of mixed feelings about this place. We came here on a Sunday morning because we saw they had pretty good reviews on Yelp. I'm not sure if I'd completely agree. It took us about 20 mins to get seated because it was busy. The decor was super cute and the host was nice. We were seated outside which was no biggie because we said we wanted first available. However, it was super cold outside and I was shocked that there were no heaters. Anyways, about 5 minutes later our waiter greeted us and took our drink orders. The drinks came out fairly quick and then we ordered our food. Our food took what seemed like forever (maybe 30-45 min) to come out. At one point I asked our waiter if he knew when the food would be coming out and he rudely responded "ya were busy idk" with no apology. In addition to that, we hadn't even got drunk refills! The food comes out and it was so good! The menu is fairly small so between the five of us we tried a good variety of items and each was just as delicious as the next. The quantities are ok, but we were still hungry so we ordered two extra hash browns and one side of bacon after. We waited another 20 minutes and then the waiter came by and said it might take longer and asked if we just wanted to take them off the bill and leave. We decided to wait. The waiter brought us our bill. There was an already added 20% gratuity which kinda sucked, because the service we got really didn't deserve over 15%. We paid the bill which the waiter took very long to pick up and left. Another thing that kinda shocked me was that my tea was $4.50 but my friend got 4 strips of bacon for $2.50... I'm not sure how they do their pricing and in what world would a hot tea cost over $3. Anyways, as I left I heard another lady at a table outside say "i don't know why this is taking so long, i just want my coffee." While the food here is great, the wait times for our food was ridiculous and the service was sub par. It was cool to try but I doubt I'd come back. read more

I alternate between the chilaquiles, breakfast burrito and the carne asada fries (my favorite, the pickled veggie garnishes are so fucking good). Always with a matcha or the spaniard. SO GOOD! The pancakes were fluffy and fruit was fresh. My friend had the waffles as well, but with fried chicken instead. The chicken was light, crispy and not too oily, just how I like it! In addition, the decor is AWESOME. For me, it's not only the food that makes a great restaurant... The ambiance is always a HUGE factor. I love the clean, chic, but beachy vibe to this spot. I've grown up in Alameda my whole life (born and bred) so this location has always been Fosters Freeze for me, but I went to the new Neptune's for the first time for a post-Christmas catch-up on Wednesday with 3 of my AHS friends (recommended by our foodie friend and current Alameda resident). It's very spacious with great lighting and a welcoming, clean aesthetic. I love breakfast spots with a Filipino-influence and Neptune's delivers. Two of my friends ordered the sweet waffle with LOADS of fresh, ripe fruit. My other friend ordered the chicken, silog-style and I ordered the longanisa, silog-style. A breakfast that includes pork, egg, and rice is perfection. We ordered a couple of coffees - and as is customary for similar breakfast/brunch spots, refills were free. I'd recommend avoiding this place. I looked up "organic restaurants" alameda and was initially really excited about the Neptune's menu and offerings. What's more, their Instagram feed looks great. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The service was great and the staff was friendly. But, as I was driving my to-go order back to my house, I noticed it was starting to stench up my car. Maybe it's something outside, I thought. I truly thought there was some sewage or something going on on Central but when I got home, the smell was coming from the Neptune's bag. The waffles were soggy, soft, and cold (the drive is only 10 minutes). The chicken smelled rancid, old. Perhaps other items on the menu are better. I called them to tell them how rancid the chicken smelled, and to share that they might need to change the oil in the frier. I was disappointed they did not offer to reimburse my meal, but I know restaurants are struggling to survive right now. I hope they take the feedback and make improvements, as I'd love to continue supporting them. But, I almost vomited from the smell of the chicken alone, and I do not have a sensitive stomach. read more

Came here for lunch with my friend a few weeks ago and loved it. This place is a cute spot to have brunch at! The indoor decoration is great, but if the weather is perfect sit outside! It's cute and they have a little lounge area to sit on couches. As you enter you are greeted right away. However, my only issue is the lack to check in with the tables after seating them. I waited a while after getting seated and constantly wanted more water, but waited because I could not grab the servers attention. Food wise the place is good! It has a mixed feel to it. It had some American dishes, mixed in with some Mexican, and then a hint of Filipino food in the mix. Out of them all I settled with chicken and waffles. The portion of the serving is huge! I could not finish it all, but I now know its enough for two people to share. My friend ordered loco moco and he enjoyed it. He was able to finish it. We enjoyed the food and definitely will be coming back! I want to try more food and will ask for a table indoors. I should also note that they have a huge parking lot in the back and there is parking available on the street too, but know you'd have to pay for that. read more

My experience at Neptune's Restaurant in Alameda should have been a lot better. The coffee there is rich and smooth and they will refill no problem. The bacon and fried oyster omelette was good and unique. I also tried the fried chicken which my girlfriend had ordered. It was crispy on the outside but underdone. The inside of the skin was still fatty and the chicken did not easily separate from the bone...and showing pink meat and pink juices. Restaurant says it is supposed to be that way. Don't think so. I went to Neptune's today for the first time with a good friend. I got a Bloody Mary ($9) to drink and the Greens and Beans plate ($14). This seemed to be the one of the only vegan items on their breakfast menu besides the side of fruit. This was okay with me since this entree ended up being very delicious. If you are vegan or vegetarian and want a Bloody Mary ask for no bacon!! Even though it's not listed in the description it comes with it! Had brunch here on a Saturday with my wife and dog. Love that they had an outdoor patio that was dog-friendly! I had the eggs Benedict on a biscuit with a side of bacon. The potatoes on the side were a real treat, although a bit greasy. It was a medley of golden Yukon, purple, and sweet potato- really tasty! The eggs Benedict was amazing ! Love the hollandaise sauce and egg was poached perfectly. The biscuit tasted homemade and was really flavorful - i think they used cornmeal in it which gave it a bit of a sweet doughy taste. Paired perfectly with the tangyness of the hollandaise. Presentation was fabulous btw, but fresh fruit in lieu of the spring mix would work much better in my opinion. My wife has the sisig with chicken fat rice. The rice was bomb, great taste to it. Sisig was ok. Presentation again was lovely. She really enjoyed the orange juice too. Brunched here for the first time today and ordered the chilaquiles and chicken & waffles. Fried chicken was superb and the waffle complemented well, but was a bit cold and not crispy. The chilaquiles were good, but had a lot of sour cream on them, for not having that listed in the ingredients on the menu. This bummed me out since I really hate sour cream and would have asked for it without if I had known. It really overpowered the rest of the dish, so I couldn't really taste much else. I was so hungry I didn't feel like asking for a remake, so just poked around as best as I could. I know better for next time though, and we will come back again to try other items! I've had their steak Benedict, chilaquiles, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, avocado toast, and more. I live in Alameda and have only come here to get coffee. But one Sunday morning we decided to try the breakfast/brunch even though I didn't see too many veg options for me. We had to wait our table for a while (they said about 15 mins, but for some reason when a table became available we still weren't seated. The host was very friendly though and he apologized for the wait. I started with a mocha with almond milk and hubs with regular coffee and fresh OJ. Our server was busy and not too personable or overly friendly, just seemed like she wanted to get the job done. Food came out fast though and the runner was more customer service oriented and had positivity about him. An absolute delight that will make you fall in love with Alameda in a heartbeat. This place is fam friend, has great food, and the service was amazing, even with two little toddlers! We stopped in for brunch on a Saturday with 5 adults and two kiddos. Not only did we barely wait, but they hooked us up with a great table in the corner with room for highchairs. Sensitive to the fact that kiddos get bored and fussy when they are hangry, we loved the fast service. My husband and I both ordered, and loved, the Pork Sausage Silog which came with rice and a fried egg. mmmm delicious. Cannot wait to return and check out their back patio. read more

It's relatively small inside and reminds me of the original Grand Lake Kitchen. If this places takes off, you'll be waiting a while for a seat. There's patio seating in the back but I sat inside. The tables are relatively close together so don't have a highly personal conversation unless you don't care if anyone hears it. Lol. I sat at a small two top which had high traffic. I went with the breakfast sandwich. The plate was quite colorful and I loved it! The sammy was smaller than my hungry belly would've liked but hey, can't always eat like a stereotypical American right? Haha. The coffee was solid. This is a reasonably priced restaurant. I was pleased with the service and the food. I'll have to try it out again with a group to see if thy changes the experience. Overall, four stars. read more

The interior and patio are really nice, love the vibe there. The beverages were horrible but the food is pretty decent! The small dishes' serving sizes are kind of small for their prices. But the main dishes have decent servings; one is more than enough to share with me and my bf. This time we got the lumpia, avocado toast, and Mornay fries. The lumpias were pretty good! Super juicy! And I really lovee the avocado toast here! The fries was delicious as well. However, the drinks were horrible. I ordered the "freshly juiced orange juice" and it tasted SUPER watered down. Our new fave brunch spot! Although there was a little bit of a wait the staff were very warm and welcoming from the start. We walked along Webster street while we waited and were seated right on time. Their patio seating was perfect for a warm July day and we had our friends dog with us so it was a great option for dining with your furry friends. They also offer indoor dining as an option. They have an interesting variety of food offerings which appear to use a lot of fresh ingredients. Seafood, variety of meats & they appear to have a Filipino and/or Hawaiian fusion with their menu.
