    Salmon po boy
    Tiffany S.

Finally had a chance to visit Nettie B's. This small unassuming place I was told had great food. The actual restaurant space was anti-climatic. It was a big open space with a couple tables on one side and the chefs counter on the other side. In the corner was a lady greeting people who would take your order. There were no menus, the lady said the restaurant was transitioning to fish and seafood only and the menus were not completed but she could name off what was available. She did and I decided to go for the Salmon po boy with fries. I almost fell over when she said $17 and some change. OMG! Po boy usually taps out at $14.99 at the most, unless it is lobster. So already the bar was raised because a $17 po boy better be damn good. While waiting at one of the tables, the lady brought over my tableware for dine in. A plastic cup with plasticware and packets of condiments. I get it, COVID, but for a $17 sandwich with fries, I was expecting the dine in experience to be a little better. My food is ready and the chefs did a nice job of presenting it well in a styrofoam box for takeout, even tho I planned to dine in. So, moral of this story is that the food all comes in a takeout box. Including their pricey seafood boils. I know seafood is expensive, but if I am going to drop $30 for a takeout order, I'm expecting something better than just a styrofoam container you would put fried chicken in, what do you think? I enjoyed the salmon po boy, it was good, but not $17 good. Fries were hot and fresh, so I am giving this 4 stars because the food was good, the ambiance just wasn't. The price point is too high for me, but if you live in Illinois and want a seafood boil this is the place for you! I guess.

Take out only at this time but it is so worth it!! Hot, fresh, and well seasoned seafood cooked to order. You order outside with friendly service coming to you and also bringing your food right to you. This fried lobster, sauteed shrimp, and fried shrimp were excellent; but so were the complimentary corn and potatoes. I'm so excited to go back!

There was no food like in the photos on here but the ice cream and donuts were wonderful! The staff was so nice and helpful.

It was definitely a Mexican Honduras mash-up. So now on to the review Atmosphere: legit Central American restaurant. Good green salsa, terrible ceviche, as our friend put it, it was viscous which is never good for a fish dish much less a fresh uncooked one. The fajitas were good and large, the chicherones were not something we will ever get my husband (who likes to try new foods) again. My margarita was mid at best. Was it terrible? No. Was it good enough to make it a point to go back? Also no. And if someone could please point me to the real Mariscos El Gato I'd love to know. I miss it and we had been hoping to wow our friends with an amazing meal. :-(

We had a huge carry out order that same for Mother or Father's Day and were treated awful but I attributed it to the busy holiday crowd. However afterwards I continually saw negative reviews from African American customers. However, today my daughter and I went and the food was amazing as always and OUR server was great...let me just say that first!!!! However, the atmosphere and the demeanor and attitude of not just the Hispanic clientele but other older female servers was so blatantly rude it was SAD! POC have soooooo many other worries daily that the fact that I couldn't eat my food and enjoy my time with my adult child is crazy, especially and you're on the corner of Chippewa and Gravios...a literal melting pot. That's crazy work
