Came here because of a Scoutmob deal we found, looking for a light dinner. Coming in I was a bit confused because it's a cafe, though more of a restaurant, but also a chocolate and candy shop, and also sells some souvenirs..... Anyway, I ended up getting the tilapia sandwich, and had some of the cafe style crackers while I wanted. Average wait time for the food, even though there was really no one there, but once arrived I noticed why. The fish tasted fresh and had clearly just been cooked, as well as the lettuce and onions on it being fresh. The foccaccia bread was warm and soft, almost toasty. And I don't know much about thousand island dressing, but I liked theirs. Also, got a chocolate truffle cake to go! Which was delicious and rich in flavor, and just the right amount of moist. Now this is based on the cakes and truffles chocolates only...melt in your mouth!!! I have never had a better butter chocolate cake then here, they've got it right! An array of chocolates and truffles, pre-boxed bags for great gifts, stocking stuffers etc....high end chocolates and I've been to Belgium...they got this!!! I've visited for breakfast and dinner meh....wasn't impressed so try it you may enjoy it. The waiters hit or miss, sometimes really friendly others hired have attitudes. This is a gem. They sell lots of candy inside and have a great dessert section. I ordered the classic chicken Caesar salad sandwich, come with home made potato chips. I recommend this sandwich. They have amazing salads, my lady and I had the California salad and it is a large portion of a fresh healthy salad. I know this brand from Europe and was eager to give it a try. Reservations available. The wait staff was very nice and polite. Lots of packaged chocolates but nothing unique except for what's in the case. I agree with a prior review. Quite mediocre food at premium prices. The Beverly Hills Cobb salad was good. The chicken with mushroom and Alfredo sauce would have been better warm. But all outrageous for a $50 meal. There's a modest alcoholic selection. We noticed an older crowd indoors and younger families outside. Outdoor seating is basically a few tables on the walkway (no evening lighting). Location is a storefront, so we were able to shop around before and after dinner. read more

Since the COVID began, we've been trying to support local companies where possible and ordered takeout from Neuhaus three times. The menu is large, providing the ability for the family to find things they want. The staff are friendly and helpful. While the serving sizes and the food quality are good, they do not make up for the high prices and order errors. We've had mixed reviews from the family, with an error in an order and "ok" response, but enough to go back in support of a local cafe during this time. However, after our most recent experience, we won't be back anytime soon... The phone line was busy, so I walked in to order. The lady was befuddled by the fact it was busy and thanked me for coming in to order anyway - then turned her attention and asked me to wait. She took the order and I waited. After 20 minutes, I went in to check and they were boxing it up. Thankfully, I did, as I found they had the order wrong. Another 7 minutes to re-make a sandwich. The sandwich I was charged for was more than the one I ordered. When we got home, one sandwich was missing condiments and another was missing an ingredient. Finally, the cost....2 sandwiches, a plain cheeseburger, a cobb salad and a side of fruit (no drinks) - $70. Nope - will spend my $70 on something that deserves it going forward. read more

Neuhaus is always super busy, and people let their kids run wild in here like it was a playground. Have fun dodging the little bastards as you make your way to the counter. They have a wide variety of chocolate, and it's all expensive. In fact. everything they sell is overpriced. I used to sometimes stop in when my friend worked there to pick up a salad, and she would give me her employee discount. The salad was still too much money. It wasn't a bad salad, but Corner Bakery and La Madeline can do them better. The staff is a 50/50 split between being great and attentive or lazy and too busy on their cell phone to pay attention to their tables. The manager, Mervyn, also selects his staff on a "young and pretty" basis. He once told me that a lot of young and pretty girls on your waitstaff is good for business. So, if you want to look at young, hot girls and give them your money, but your too embarrassed to go to Babydolls or The Lodge, then head to Neuhaus with your dollar, dollar bills. read more

This place is known for it's vast selection of exquisite desserts and array of chocolates. However, I come here primarily for the food. From a tasty lunch with their unique sandwich offerings or a full-on steak w/ the trimmings, this place also offers great breakfast items. It has a comfy cafe atmosphere with a little eurostyle-flare. Sevice is friendly and the owner/ manager is from South Africa. He'll usually come over and talk to you when you are there. My personal fav is the Chicken Mushroom melt sandwich with their special potato chips. I also find their espressos and americanas notable as they use premium espresso beans (not the sh*t you waste your money on at Starbucks.) I'm partial to this place as it is just a walk across the street from my work at Preston and Royal. I basically recommend eating here if you're in the area and hungry. read more

The best part about this spot is the fact that your can get chocolate, coffee and alcohol. Nothing like being able to get three of the four basic food groups in one place. They remember you but have a bizarre serving staff except for Nick and Laurentian, our Romanian buds that hold the place together. Free WiFi and a convenient hop off the tollway at Preston and Royal. Food is consistently mediocre but the mocha lattes and cappuccino's are heavenly. Where else between 635 and Northwest Highway can you sit outside and drink a margarita, get a rusty nail or have an Italian coffee? After school you get the saddle loafer crowd, midweek you get the blue hairs at lunch drinking wine and late afternoon you get those into body art. If they had the kitchen steam the veggies instead of grilling them I'd probably increase the number of stars. Being the organizer of a meetup group..i try to find new places and experiences for the whole group but this was not so good an example. They do have a good variety of food, which is quite surprising ..in lieu of it calling it self a "cafe ", i wasn't expecting an enchillada and a pasta on the same "cafe" menu. The service was A-OK. my friend had a bug in her drink and the food came cold.. Except the coffee I don't think anything else justified the price.. One can do better...!!! read more

Let me preface this by saying I'm doing my best to not sound pretentious, but I've read a lot of reviews here about what a great "european bistro" it is, and that just couldn't be further from reality. Anyway, here goes. I've spent a couple weeks each (on different occasions) in Belgium, France, Netherlands, etc; and this is almost no way resembles the quaint cafes I remember on that side of the Atlantic--so get those grandiose visions out of your head if that's what you're looking for. The food here is low on flavor and high on price. The service is good, but that's about all they have working in their favor. If you want a pseudo-European cafe experience, the closest things I've come to in Dallas are Cafe Des Artiste and Toulouse. Not exactly the perfect vision of authenticity, but the food is better, and the atmosphere is more consistent with northern France or Benelux. read more

NeuHaus - you rock the Haus. Today was my second visit since a long time. I knew I enjoyed a few years back when I had it the first time, but somehow just couldn't remember how good it was. Well, today I was reminded not only how refreshing and joyful the actual interior but the menu as well. The whole left wall is a Willy Wonka-ish candy bar with appetizing desserts and kooky candies that you take home to your 5 year niece or nephew. They even have examples of their gift wrapping options when you feel like getting a lil' something sweet for your sweetie! After carefully examining their dense menu with tasty sounding deli choices, I landed on their cold pasta Greek salad today. It came out quickly, so I was a little concerned it came out of a big pre-made salad bowl. It was stocked with penne pasta, feta, black olives, tomatoes and cucumbers. It was awesome and filling. So hearty I had to take some home! NeuHaus is applicable to the ladies who lunch, the children on their candy craze and the afternoon loners like me that just want to enjoy a lovely afternoon at a deli. read more

Location is great----Celebrity Bakery is across the intersection but their prices are way high. Neuhaus does very nice bithday cakes--particularly the carrot and coconut/lemon. I had mixed feelings about my first trip to Neuhaus Cafe. When we entered, I immediately wanted to like it. It is independent and has a good feel. We got their menu and lots of things looked good. We saw lots of other people's food come out and it all looked good. Then we wanted to order and no waiter to be found. We look around the there are waiters going everywhere. We count the tables and the waiters. There were 16 tables and about 8 waiters running around. We wait. Nothing. We try to make eye contact with anyone. Nothing. We give up and talk some and then look around, nothing. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, longer, then our waiter appears and takes our order and isn't particularly nice. Our new found love of this cafe is starting to wane. Then our food comes. My side Caesar salad was good but my caprese sandwich was very underwhelming. The mozzarella seemed as though it had gone bad or was just old. So at this point, the cafe was getting scratched from our list. Then our waiter and another worker checked on us and were very nice. They our waiter asked if we wanted a to go cup for our diet coke and was very friendly. On the way out we get another look at their cakes and think, "man those cakes look good" so we end up back full circle thinking that we are open minded to Neuhaus and if we are in the area, we might need to give them another chance. Do you hear that? Sssh. Listen. (cups hand to ear and raises eyebrow) There is a rotating dessert case calling your name, my friend. Neuhaus Cafe has kindly situated this sinful display right by the door so you can get right to the point: Screw the rest of the meal; life is short- snarf dessert first. Lemon coconut, thick slabs of carrot cake, caramel apple pie, pina colada cream cake- you will not be disappointed. This is a great cafe for dessert and coffee- they have an open-air patio with small tables (you will barely notice that you're in a strip mall, I promise!) and they have an adorable soda counter for two-straw sippin', if that floats your boat. This, by the way, will land you right next to a shiny case of bon-bons and handcrafted chocolate, fudge, and marzipan delights to gaze upon while you discreetly mop the drool from your lips. This cafe, at first, seemed to me to be a bit schizophrenic. It's part store, part soda fountain, part restaurant, part candy mecca. There are two areas for take-home goodies to be procured- a specialty candy display near the front with lots of European chocolates and marzipans, all beautifully boxed, and a second candy area at the back with large bins and scoops so you can bag your own treats (try the miniature chocolate-covered Oreo-style cookies, or the chocolate-covered gummi bears, or the nonpareils- usually Sno-Caps are my least favorite candy, but these are huge and creamy and oh-so-yums that you'll run back for more). There seems to be something for everyone on the menu, but some recent standouts for us were the meatloaf and mashed potatoes, and the Cobb sandwich. Sandwiches come with kettle chips and store-made bread-and-butter pickles that have a slight, horseradish-y bite to them. Things I will be trying next? The 'Elvis' (a grilled peanut butter and banana sandwich, drizzled with honey), and the South African ginger beer float. Definitely a fan. :) read more

Food is good: Breakfast portions are generous, even their breakfast Oatmeal is good with lots of fresh fruit, nuts and raisins. What a great little place. I work not to far from here, but had never been until a regular took me. What an fun group of people. The servers and staff were so friendly and on point with checking up with us that I never once had to wonder "where is that guy..." Neuhaus has everything. You can order breakfast anytime, you can order various sandwiches, salads or entrees anytime. They have candy, they have alcohol. I am not sure how to spell smorgasbord or if it even has the meaning I am looking for but they offer a little of everything. I reminds me of a tiny local version on the Cheesecake Factory in the breadth of its menu. It is also one part coffee shop, one part deli, one part gift store, one part candy store, one part restaurant. Overall, I am a fan and think their food is pretty good. I think their prices are a little high but not too bad and their food is made fresh. It is a good lunch spot but not a place to go if you are in a hurry. Between somewhat slow waiter service and that they seem to make everything fresh, our food took quite a while. read more

I gave this three stars, but it actually deserves three and a half. I went to Neuhaus for the second time today and decided that I definitely like it. The first time I went and got a simple breakfast of eggs, bacon, and toast. It was good, but to be honest it's difficult to mess up a meal like that. When I went today I ordered a chicken caesar sandwich and cheese fries. The cheese fries were pretty good (not quite Snuffer's quality, but also less greasy than Snuffer's) and the sandwich was great! They managed to put just the right combination of lettuce, chicken and sauce (which is not always easy), and it was filling without being too much. I also decided to get a few of their chocolate treats before I left. I decided on some English toffee, a caramel chocolate, and a chocolate covered pretzel. Basically it was all very delicious! Neuhaus is a fun little place with good variety of meals and treats. It's moderately priced, but not too bad. The major downside to Neuhaus is it's small size which can quickly become crowded and make it difficult to walk to and from your table. That being said, I definitely want to go to Neuhaus again soon and try out some of their other meals. Once it warms up a bit more a meal and a glass of wine of their patio sounds ideal. read more

I literally just walked out of Neuhaus and could not be more disappointed. First, it was a 10 minute wait before water arrived at the table. Forgivable, tho. No paper towels in the restroom, also forgivable. After ordering salmon, I waited 45 minutes before tracking down my server and asking her how much longer it'd be, she said, "I don't know, maybe 10 more minutes." No thanks... The atmosphere is extremely loud, chaotic and unnerving. The staff are very inattentive, as well. All in all, a wasted hour of my life on an otherwise beautiful Sunday. read more

I love a relaxing lunch at Nehaus because sometimes you just need a quiet place with great food and a wall of candy....or a case full of pastries, cookies and cakes. I really enjoy the California turkey club with avocado on toasted wheat bread. Mmmmmm. Most of the lunch items come with their homemade potato chips but the fries are good too. The burger is another one of my favorites here. No matter what you order, you can immediately tell that all of the ingredients are really fresh. They have a long list of salads and tons of healthy choices. Yes, it's often frequented by Preston Hollow tennis mom's and super old people, but the food is GOOD. The service is prompt and friendly as well. It's never terribly crowded and if there is a wait it usually doesn't take long. I think this is a perfect lunch spot if you're in the Preston/Royal area and, seriously, you can't resist the treats that await post-meal. read more

The right amount of marscapone cheese, the bottom layer soaked in espresso, the top fluffy with cream. Ugh, it hit my sugar craving so right I wanted to ask it to be my boyfriend and never leave me. I miss it just thinking about it. The chocolate cake was another temptation. I didn't think I'd be so impressed with a simple chocolate cake, but I was. It was incredibly rich and creamy, and moist. Besides the Kahlua cake, the food here has never really been a drawing factor. I've had everything from the egg salad sandwich to the chicken parmigian...and it's all decent but nothing special. People come here for the good vibes. I've sat out on the patio with friends on numerous occasions and I'm sure we never ordered anything besides drinks and desserts. I've only been once, but i'll be back. Its a cozy cafe with all types of people mixed into the lunch crowd. I got the corned beef Ruben with a side of their slaw. Flavor wise everything was solid. Great corned beef, the bread was nice and thick, and the slaw was a total surprise. The German style slaw dressing (which is sweet and vinegary) is a perfect complement to the fat of the corned beef. Its actually a combination I've been craving now. Its awesome when on top of the sandwich. oh, and don't forget to get some chocolate or cake for dessert. read more

Came in here because of the dessert carousel next to front door. The cinnamon walnut cake and chocolate truffle cake look irresistible. I resisted and ordered a hamburger. It was good I ate it with a fork and left the bun. The fries were good too but I didn't finish them and alas no room for desert... will return for that another day. I noticed other reviews posting lack of service, well I decided on my first visit that this is basically self service. If you want more water you must get up and ask someone because they won't be bringing it. I didn't get a check so I just walked to the register and paid. Another suggestion I would make it's a post the prices on the candies in the case I couldn't tell if they were individually priced or sold by the pound or sold by the pound at various prices and wasn't about to start ordering stuff and not have any idea how much I was spending I think a lot of people would agree with me on this one. I really like this place. As others have commented, yes...it's a bit crazy. It's busy, it's a cross between a candy store, chocolate shop, bakery and restaurant, but the food is great. The menu is diverse-- want eggs at 3:00? No problem. How about a cup of soup and a slice of chocolate cake with your eggs? Again, no problem. I go here with a work group, and everyone can find something. I usually go for a salad, and their veggies are fresh and crisp. Truly, though, I eat the salad only so I can split a piece of their ahhhhmazing chocolate cake with my coworkers after lunch. :) Yeah, that's right. Their chocolate cake is fantastic. Some of the best I've ever had. I can't vouch for their other flavors, but this is definitely worth the calories. Worth a trip. read more

I loved this place. I came mid-afternoon on a Friday when it wasn't very busy. It smelled fantastic as soon as I walked in. Greek chicken sandwich, homemade fries, and sweet pickles were all delicious, and my server was friendly and attentive. I stayed several hours, my girlfriend joined me, and we watched the place transition to evening, when the lights were mercifully turned down. Great place for lunch, coffee, dessert, wine, and wi-fi.
