Worst hotel on planet earth. I got a flat tire and had zero cell phone reception. They refused to let me check-in late and charged my card. They won't pick up their phone after hours, even in an emergency. I drove there after my flat tire was fixed and they refused to answer the door, pick up the phone, or let me check into my room. We should have looked at the reviews. I seriously don't know how the manager/owner is allowed to even keep this property available. It should be condemned. Two good things first: At least the gentleman at the front desk was nice. And we were able to bring our dog. The cabin (Ruby) was so bad we almost left but we had to pay upfront. The bedroom wall lamp FELL OUT when I tried to turn it on. There were random holes all over the front door. There was no heat. I don't think it's been cleaned in months. The floors had stains everywhere. There were no towels in the bathroom for a shower. The front steps were really bad and the front porch was so unappealing we were creeped out even standing outside. Our dog (a 130 pound XL bully) was even getting antsy. The main window had no blinds and the other blinds in the other windows were all broken. We kept waiting for Candid Camera. Or a murderer. Be warned--this place is a total scam! I stayed here during Thanksgiving and paid in full via Expedia. Three days later, I discovered they charged my credit card again. When I called, the staff member who answered was extremely rude and unhelpful, claiming there was nothing she could do and that I'd have to wait for the manager. However, the manager, Manish, is never available, never returns calls, and refuses to address the issue. When I asked for an email address, the staff member couldn't even provide one. Even Hotels.com reached out on my behalf, but they had no success either. Now, about the room--it was absolutely disgusting. I booked the two-bedroom cottage for two nights but ended up leaving a day early because it was so bad. The bathroom wasn't cleaned and had garbage piled under the sink. The shower/tub was so small it seemed like it was meant for an infant. The pull-out bed was filthy and clearly hadn't been used (or cleaned) in ages. The furniture was mismatched, old, and worn. The mattress was nothing but springs, the linens were terrible, and there were no blankets provided. The floors were so dirty that our socks turned black just walking around. The entire property is rundown. There are broken-down cars scattered everywhere, the office is disgusting, and no one is ever there to help. The room smelled awful, like old mold, and I left feeling like I needed to take a hundred showers. To top it off, it's been over 20 days, and I still haven't been refunded for the double charge. Zero stars. This place should no doubt be condemned, I arrived late in the evening for my room, it was about 10pm maybe 15 minutes past. The room had been reserved and paid for 3 weeks in advance. When I got to the property the gentleman (I'll keep all personnel judgments to myself) behind the counter was very confused about how to use the computer let alone find my reservation in the first place. Even after I gave him all information that he could possibly need including the reservation number my phone number that date that I made the reservation first and last name and whatever else you could imagine. He said I'm sorry but we gave away your room. Please remember check in time was after 3pm on a prepaid reservation so, my room should not have been just given away. There was a large event in the area that was going on for a long weekend. T,F,S nights. Due to the size of event and amount of people from in and out of the country, there were absolutely no rooms available to make this issue and easier. Then all of a sudden he said oh wait here's a room and this was after standing there waiting for him for about 45 minutes. Because it's just down this way and he started walking it was very very dark the place was not well lit there were unmarked stairs coming up out of nowhere very high staires as well. . So when we go to look at the room he knocks on one door and says housekeeping and then immediately puts his key in and opens up the door and there were customers in that room! So down a few more very poorly lit yards he got to another room ahead of me. He opened the door and he pulled a Shop-Vac out of the room he tried to hide it like I wasn't going to see. (Hello dude big feaking YELLOW Shop-Vac. Please keep in mind this is no joke. I have never had an experience anything ever like this place in my life. When I finally caught up to him, he was trying to replace the rolled up carpeting that was clearly covering up a very bad mold issue and possibly covering up a crime scene. There was a still running industrial fan up against the wall. At this point I totally wish I had been videotaping this whole experience. He actually believed that I was going to take that room so I just held my hands up and went nope nope nope I'm not staying here, thank you very much and headed towards my car. When I got into my car, I immediately started trying to find any available room I could. He came up to the side of my car and kept talking to me while I was trying to do some research and try to save my own butt from having to sleep in my car. Finally I'd asked him to just leave me alone for a minute so I could figure out what it was going to do. Just about the time I decided I would get out of the parking lot and sit somewhere whare I was comfortable to place calls. The man's wife or whatever came up to my car and scared the horse shit out of me. I had to call 15 (once again not a joke) places before I found a room. TO THE OWNERS of this property, visit this place and correct your negligence and oversee what a mess your employees are and the status of your property. You should be ashamed. I am a retired district manager of a property management company. And feel total validated in writing such a review. The advertisement/pictures on booking.com were EXTREMELY misleading. The Nevada City Inn looks like a Best Western in the photos. The pictures I posted are what our room looked like.  The first room we got smelled of smoke (all rooms are supposed to be smoke free.). When we walked in, it looked like someone had just left. The shower was wet, the toilet seat was up and nasty, the bedding had, what looked like, a shoe print, and because of how disgusting it was, I looked for bed bugs. I'm not saying for sure if it was or not, but it was lined with "dirt" in the seams. (Wish I gotten pictures from that room) So, I went down to the office and asked to change rooms. The man was very nice, apologized, and gave us a new room, hoping we would like it better. Because of him is why I gave 1 star.  Anyway, the pictures are of the room we stayed in and where I got the bites.  There was nothing in the seams, but as you can see, there is a HUGE stain. (I can only assume what it is). The pillow cases have blood stains on them, or at least I think it's blood (Wish I took a  picture of the other pillow that was worse) and burn holes in the sheets and comforter.  I found a black light from a cavern tour we took, so for shits and giggles, I used it on the fitted sheet. To the naked eye, you don't see anything, but with the light, there were a few big stains. Again, blood or blood, that is the question.  The fridgerator had not been cleaned in a looooong time, and the microwave smelled so bad we would not bring our leftovers into the room.   Now for the heater. It was hot in the room, so I asked my man to turn it down a notch. When we got back from dinner, the room was cool, so he turned it up. The fire pilot was out. Thankfully, he knew what to do. He checked everything and relit it.  The holes that were in the walls were patched in with paper, the air conditioner is rigged in the window, and the people next to us were banging on their window trying to close it. As for the shower, we were hesitant to use it, but the hot and cold water worked, so we did.  The shower head was spraying at the connector. It didn't affect us but just another thing to be fixed. If the rooms were charged by the hour, I'm guessing/assuming it would not be a huge deal, but when you pay $100, it should be in better condition.  It is very unhealthy and hazardous.  Just beware. read more

They charged us an extra night which we did not stay and every time I called them they said they would have a manager call back and no one has called ever called me back. The room was barely presentable the floor in the bathroom had different linoleum pieces to patch where holes were. The heater pilot light was out and they did not have anything to light it with nor did they even try. Thankfully my husband knows how to light a pilot light but we had to borrow a lighter from one of the other guests otherwise we would've froze. There was a man sitting in a chair in their small lobby who said he had been there for 45 minutes and no one had come out to help him he had just come from a hospital stay and no one even acknowledged him. read more

I booked my two day stay through reservations.com. There was a total misrepresentation of the place on their internet site. Their photo showed small cottages with charming farmhouse décor. Upon arrival I was given a key to a room in an old tired motel strip. The place is decorated in early depression. (Possibly 60's?) Cleanliness is obviously not protocol, as the shower was uninhabitable, the upholstered chair too dirty to even place my luggage, the doorway to the bathroom had grimy prints embedded on it, and the carpet was highly questionable. Paint was peeling off the wall. The large brownish red stain (blood?) on the bathroom floor was creepy. It was very late at night so I decided to leave my belongings in the car and just pull back the covers to the sheets and use my own blanket. I noticed small black dots on the sheets. I picked one up and it was crunchy. Then one moved. Oh Hell no! I slept in my car. Follow up.....It was a long arduous process to get a refund. It included three times explaining my situation and having to wait 72 hours for the outcome. No return call, so I had to repeat the process. In the end I settled for less than half of the return on my money. . Reservations.com policy is 48 hour cancellation notice, regardless of the fact that I showed up and found the place unacceptable. I was in Nevada City for a wedding. Ironically, one of the guests at the wedding had a similar experience at the same time, refusing to stay in their room. They received back a full refund as it was a direct reservation with Nevada City Inn, not with the scammers reservations.com. They need to be reported to the health department and shut down. read more

It was not worth the $. Our room wasn't even ready and we checked in an hour after check in started. The room spelled of cig smoke and the bathroom smelled bad. There was a dead bug in the shower ceiling and the carpets were stained everywhere. They do give you a fairly large mini fridge and a microwave and coffee maker. The day we checked in, pillows were strewn all over the floor and the door did not lock from the inside. The whole vibe was unsanitary. The new room I requested had a blind that didn't close all the way, letting in bright light all night. The walls are paper thin. We could hear people talking in low voices. The heater had a carbon monoxide warning, so couldn't leave it on all night on a chilly autumn day. There were no chairs at the table. When we tried to return the room key the next morning, no one was at the office, no one answered the phone, and there was no drop-off box, so we left it in the room. We canceled one reservation two days in advance and Booking.com approved the cancellation. I have been calling over 10 times to receive my reimbursement from Nevada Inn, only to be given the run-around. It's been one month and no reimbursement as of yet. We got locked out of our room after leaving for dinner. We called and Smile, the manager, said she would come down to reprogram the key so we could get in. Not only did she not come down like she said she would, she turned off the business phone. We slept in the parking lot in a car until the office opened. We called and got hung up on 3x by booking.com. Had to leave and drive without a refund or resolve. Dirty rooms, broken toilet etc. Just a horrible place. Where do I start, All the negative reviews you see about the Nevada City Inn are 100% true, the positive reviews are either friends, family or someone that doesn't care about much. First Kenny was very pleasant and tried to help, however unless Kenny can use a bulldozer to demolish the entire property, there is not much he can do to help. The rooms are beyond filthy, unkept and just plain disgusting. The floors haven't been cleaned in any part of the cabin. There was a piece of crumbled toilet paper on the bathroom floor. The couch looked like someone had been murdered on it, I was also told the couch was only 6 months old, maybe closer to 20 years. there is an iron in the room and the handle was black, when it should have been white. I opened the refrigerator and instantly slammed it shut do to the filth. The curtains were from the sixties and haven't been cleaned since. there were holes in all the walls, you could see through the AC sides to the outside. The manager did show me 2 other rooms and stated they have been newly remodeled, in the 70s, I don't know if they know that was over 50 years ago. They do allow dogs for extra money, however my dog would come out dirtier than it went in, and my dog is clean. We were able to cancel the reservation without having to stay, no way in HELL would I stay there, Expedia did contact the hotel right away after we called them. I absolutely loved this place its an older building but thats what makes this place so unique. It's quiet, clean, the rooms not big but spacious, there's trees everywhere and being fall season the leaves of the trees are awesome. They accept pets for a small fee $10.00 per night and there's also cabins you can rent as well. The manager was awesome and very friendly and helpful. The cost is very very reasonable and there's no deposits which is hard to find anymore. Its easy to find so if you like being in the mountains and the fresh clean air I would definitely book your room. read more

First off before I get started, I just wanted to say the innkeeper was very polite, and really tried his best to accommodate. It's not his fault that the owner is literally running a flophouse for the local drug addicts. I really wish I would've checked Yelp, but I trusted Priceline.... The first room we entered, stunk of stale cigarettes and smoke. There was food and garbage all over the floors the toilet was about to fall through the rotten spot in the floor, and due to plumbing breaking in another unit there was no running water. The innkeeper took us to another unit, and at first glance looked hardly acceptable. When I went to use the bathroom and lifted the toilet seat, there was diarrhea spray and blood dried all over the toilet. When I pulled the blanket back, the sheets were literally tiger striped with dirt. Everything was covered in a dirty film spots of blood along baseboards. At this point I felt like we had to get out of there ASAP, and possibly burn our clothing. All I can say is really do yourself a favor and do not stay here because once you've paid them, it will be an act of God to get your money back. I have reached out to the health department, the local Chamber of Commerce, I am not going to rest until this place is condemned. I would also not advise using Priceline. Our department often relies on input from the public reference the actions of our officers. It provides us the opportunity to correct behavior that is not desired, by either offing additional training or discipline depending on the severity. Additionally our department takes complaints seriously and we investigate them thoroughly. I have had the opportunity to investigate your complaint and the actions of Officer Butts. I began with looking at what type of call the officer was dispatched to. I reviewed the dispatch "Call for Service", Officer Butts body camera footage and I reviewed the original call to the dispatch center from Mr. Mukesh. And I listened to the recording of the dispatcher who sent Officer Butts to the call. It appears that there is some miscommunication from what Mr. Mukesh reported and what was actually happening. Mr. Mukesh reported two females came into the office stating they needed a refund because the room was disgusting. Mr. Mukesh stated he wants them off the property, stating both of the females jumped on him stating they were law enforcement and they can do what they want. The dispatcher asked Mr. Mukesh if the female physically jumped him, to which he replied" yes". The dispatched again confirmed the two females identified themselves as law enforcement. This information was relayed to Officer Butts when he was dispatched. With the information provided to Officer Butts, he believes he is responding to a physical altercation involving two females claiming to be law enforcement officers jumping a desk clerk. This type of call is certainly going to put the officer on a certain level of high alert versus what was actually happing, which was a minor dispute over hotel accommodations. I reviewed Officer Butts body camera footage and I agree he was assertive at the initial contact. He believes he is responding to a physical assault by two law enforcement officers. Separating involved parties in this type of call is imperative. Officer Butts did not know either of you nor did he know what level of training you may have. So he's going to be extra cautious. I also noted that as Officer Butts begins to understand what is actually happening his demeanor changed and he spoke to all parties in a calm clear manor. It is very unfortunate Mr. Mukesh related false information to the dispatcher. I am not sure if a language barrier played a part or if he truly felt threatened and embellished the facts to incite a quicker response from Officer Butts. I feel confident Officer Butts responded appropriately given the information he was provided. However, I did have a conversation with him about the comment "I don't know him to be a liar" I explained to him that no matter what previous contact he's had with Mr. Mukesh in the past, it is irrelevant and things can change rapidly. I couldn't find the office so I called. I called the number ten minutes before my check in time at two o'clock. I was scolded by the employee for calling before two o'clock. His exact words were "you weren't supposed to be here till two". When I informed him I just needed to know where the office was I was yelled at again for calling early then heard him slam the phone down. I had to stay somewhere else because I couldn't stand the thought of having to meet anyone who worked there in person. I already felt unsafe and uncomfortable. These people should not be in business. We were planning to spend one night in Nevada City just for a quick trip about 2 hours from our home. We had a lovely lunch at a Broad Street bistro then went to check-in to the Nevada City Inn. There was no one in the office so we waited for 10-15 minutes and finally got someone by calling. We got the key to our reserved cottage and went in, looked around for 1 minute and left. The room was completely disgusting and filthy, even cigarette burns on the bedspread. So, believe the horrible reviews and do not stay at the Nevada City Inn. Also, if you do make a reservation be careful how they charge. For me the room was $150 but then they charged $75 in "fees" so the total loss for me was $225 but at least I didn't have to spend the night in filth. read more

Worst accommodations we have experienced outside Central America. The shower did not work: all hot or all cold but no in between. When we complained we were offered a different room at a higher price. I'm not kidding about this part. It was only when I offered my counter proposal that we get a full refund for our stay that they gave us a similar room down the way. "Continental breakfast" was coffee and packaged pastries. We didn't have high expectations but this is the absolute bare minimum. Oh, and "we open at 7 am" is actually "we open at 8:30 or after you call and complain". No clothes rod in the room. Walls are paper THIN, the rooms are like one large living room with a thin wall between them so you share a wood floor. We had to call the hotel at almost 1am to have them ask the neighbors to stop slamming things around and tell their kids to stop screaming. Sounds like people live here.
