I ordered a gyro and fries. The pita was burned, the sauce was tasteless. The fries were great.

Little spot with a few tables inside for seating. Had a sudden craving for pita and baba ghanoush and decided it was time to try this place out. The man taking our order said he had just run out. He mentioned if we weren't in a hurry he was about to make another batch and that suited us just fine. You can top your baba ghanoush with gyro meat and with "Gyro" in the name I thought we'd better try it and had high hopes. Turns out the baba ghanoush was delicious, but the gyro meat isn't made in house, they were just packaged slices thrown on a griddle for a few minutes. I should have looked for a rotating meat spit before ordering..! It was okay but not what I had hoped for. Orders are served on styrofoam plates, that could certainly use an upgrade. No music, no noticeable decor. The ice maker wasn't working so we had water. Lots of little things that added up to a very basic experience, this is a 2.5 star rating for me. read more

As restaurant owners ourselves we can understand putting a few maintenance items lower priority to keep the doors open and prep lists on point. I ordered the Gyro Plate - large. It came with several slices of beef and lamb gyro meat, pieces of pita and tzikki sauce. Choice of rice (I chose yellow) and choice of hummus or babaganush (I chose hummus). Plus a mall salad with a tasty vinaigrette type dressing, tomato, cheese, onion and cucumbers on top of lettuce. I had a late lunch at this restaurant, and I was the only guest at this time. The food took a little while and when I tasted it, I understood why. I wish I had been on YELP at the time and could have been specific as to what I ordered. What I remember is that it tasted like someone's grandmother had spent hours in the kitchen. There was a comfort to this food that I will never forget. This type of cuisine is not something I have had many times in my life and now I'm afraid of being disappointed if I have it anywhere else. If you are ever considering this place, do yourself a favor and pull the trigger! This review is based solely on the food. I've been craving a Gyro and have been here in the past, but this time it wasn't tasty at all. The pita bread was very tough and chewy. I had two bites and threw it out. The food is very good. It's definitely on par with other Greek restaurants I've visited. The men working there weren't very friendly when I came in. I went to use the restroom first and wash my hands since I'd been shopping and touching things... I got drilled with questions about being a customer before I could even reach the restroom. It was rude and embarrassing since they yelled at me from the counter. I almost left. That being said, I returned a second time even after that incident. The service wasn't much better; I got a different platter, and again it was good Greek food. I definitely won't bring anyone else here, and will most likely get food to go next time due to the environment being so stale! read more

We got the gyro salad. Bathroom was out of order. Place was dark and gloomy. Broken cabinets and pretty filthy overall. One guy working. All of that honestly is no big deal. Sometimes the worst looking places have the best food so was still excited. The food was not great. Prepackaged Gyro meat heated up on a griddle. Served on a foam disposable plate. Grabbed a quick bite to eat with a friend for lunch. Was fairly busy on a Saturday around noon. It's a smaller space, so it may have seemed busier. I ordered the beef rice plate, and my friend ordered the gyro with fries and a salad. Both combos were good. Not the best I've ever had for Greek, but fair. I think the staff working were the owners. They were very polite and served our food fairly quickly for being the only workers. I give it a plus if it is family owned. Overall food was fair and price was fair. I think I spent $9 on the lunch platter and my friend spent $10. I would be willing to go back occasionally. read more

My wife swears the gyros are the best in town. Tonight I was hungry so I ordered a rice plate with falafel and a side of dolmades . WOW. The falafel was simple and paired nicely with the spices in the Baba ghanoush. A little side salad and my fav, dolmades topped off the plate. And as I enjoyed my variety , I almost missed the absolutely perfectly cooked still very much floral basmati rice. Very much worth a try if you haven't yet! read more

The salad had a good variety of fresh veggies, with a feta topping, but it was relatively small. I simply do not understand the rave reviews for Royal Gyros. It's yet another indicator the citizens of Cass County have zero clue what acceptable ethnic food is. ATMOSPHERE: Royal Gyro is a single room with counter service and a handful of tables. Right now it's takeout only, and the tables are stacked in the corner. No complimentary wifi. SERVICE: Being counter service only there wasn't much to rate. The cashier was friendly enough. It did, however, take a while to receive two gyros and an order of falafel. FOOD: This is the predominant reason RG gets such a low score. I should have connected the dots when I noticed the menu did not have spanakopita or baklava, which are traditional Mediterranean staples. In fact, this is the first Mediterranean restaurant I've ever patronized that didn't have these two items. Why is this a problem? Both of these things take a modicum of skill to make because the crusts have to be layered and flaky. If you run a Mediterranean place but can't make either of these, it makes me wonder where else you will cut corners, and that brings me to a prime example--the gyros. I ordered two lamb and beef gyros (one for me, one for the lady friend). Aside from being smaller than what I'm accustomed to having, the meat was so weird. Instead of shaved chunks of lamb and beef, I was greeted by thinly sliced, bland deli meat. Additionally, the falafel order was four small pieces of dry falafel which required the tzatziki dipping sauce to make them palatable. VALUE: Not good at all. The small gyro ran $6.99 ala carte when a lot of other Mediterranean places include fries for that price. The falafel was $4.99 for four pieces. Unacceptable. What is my local benchmark? Go to Never On Sunday off Holmes Road. Their gyros are larger, better quality, and come with a side (fries, feta pasta, or rice pilaf) for the same price as RG. Their falafel is only $2.99 for five pieces. Drive the extra miles; it's worth it. Frankly, the only reason Royal Gyros is successful and will continue to exist is because the locals are simply unaware of what constitutes proper Mediterranean food. read more

For a strip mall venue right next to a pizza chain, the food was surprisingly good. I had the lamb special with tzatziki, yellow rice, baba ganoush, pita wedges, dolmades (yum!) and Greek salad. With fountain drink my ticket came to 12 bucks and change. I'm assuming the owners are the counter crew and cooks. They're friendly and fast. I didn't have to wait long for my food to arrive. This is a nice alternative to convenience dining in Cass County, which is usually just so many chain places. Looking forward to many returns. read more

Lovely little place just off the highway. As we travel, we look for places like this. Very tasty gyros. It's the packaged stuff, not off the spit, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars. The tzasiki is exceptional, as are the rest of the ingredients. The bread has a nice snap to it after being put on the grill. Royal Gyros is in a small strip mall across from hy-vee in Belton. I have driven past it many times and have often wanted to try it, but it was usually after a meal. Boy was I in luck on Sunday when I stopped in for an gyro! It was freshly made and was so very good! The restaurant itself is not fancy and looks like an old Subway restaurant; which didn't bother me at all as I Was getting it to go. I had the beef and lamb gyro with onions, tomatoes, to Tzazakei (sp) sauce and feta. The pita was outstanding and the meat was so flavorfuI! I couldn't believe the amount of meat per pita for $5.49! The 2 nice people behind the counter were very friendly and helpful in helping me decide and taking my order. I also ordered a hummus plate; the pita were amazing but the hummus was a bit too funny for my taste. I cannot wait to return to Royal Gyro again soon, it was very good!! read more
