I am a fan of New Balance sneakers. However, I am not a fan of the New Balance store in the shadow of Smith Haven Mall.      When I visited my Dad on Long Island, I was going to leave with a new pair of New Balance.  The perfect pair was nonexistent at Kohl's (out of stock issue) and Dick's Sporting Goods. So, we decided to check out the New Balance store in the Smith Haven Mall shadow at the corner of Route 347 and Alexander Drive.    When it came to New Balance there seemed to be a non balance of price categories. In my opinion, all of their sneakers were expensive and overpriced. The only employee in this relatively small store, said that they sell better sneakers than the model that I had photographed in Kohl's. That is not true because the pairs I have brought from retail chains such as Kohl's have bestowed me with long-time use and compliments. Generally speaking the only employee was willing to help. Now if he would of mentioned that they had the digital foot measure device that some other reviewers had mentioned, it would of been beneficial to the point that I might of upped my rating. Nonetheless, before leaving I knew that there was a better balance of New Balance deals and selection waiting for me at the Riverhead Tanger Outlets New Balance Store. read more

I've purchased two pair of sneaker here. Yhe same Sales rep attended to me both times. 30 months apart. How many other retailers can even dream of having the same staff for 30 months straight. they must be doing something right to retain the talent. And talented he was, I believe his name was Mark. This was a simple sale. My current pair of 804 had served me well for the last two and one half years and it was time to put them to pasture. I wanted a new pair of the same. I had lost some weight in the mean time so we resized my feet and off he went to grab a brand-y new set. A quick fit and I was all set. My wife got a pair of sneakers as well. She needed the full treatment. The digital foot scanner thingy, confirmed by the Brannock scale and then a sampling of two different styles and sizes. The whole thing took less than 30 minutes between the two of us. He was also able to help another customer who needed more attention due to many orthotic questions. Can't imagine we get this type of efficiency in the mall and a store crammed by shopping families and staffed by short timers. Sure the sneaks probably cost a little more here, but service and efficiency has to be worth something. read more

Very Very disappointing! I purchased my new balance 4E sneakers a few years ago.Based on the great treatment & customer service I received then, (Lake Grove store). They measured my foot size on the machine,checked my arch configuration ,tried arch supports in the sneakers I was going to buy! All was good & told my self this is where my go to place will be for all future sneaker purchases! (New Balance - The Lake Grove Store! Now ! Today I went in The NB Lake Grove store showed the young man there(salesman) the sneakers I had on. These samesneakers were the ones I purchased a few years ago. I want these not sure size but 4E width. He stated there is an updated version! He took me to the measuring machine to check size ,but machine would not register. Salesman walked away to help other customers & I kept trying to register my size. Finally he came over started make excuses for the machine not registering. I took that he was giving kind of blowing me off excuse! Then he looked into my sneaker stated 71/2 4E . I believed I needed larger than 7/12 . The salesman brought out a size 8 regular & 81/2 4E! I asked how much are the sneakers he stated $130.00! I laughed but I was annoyed as I going to pay that amount for sneakers that are the wrong size (8 reg) ! Later he brought out the white version. I stated they feel tighter than the one I tried on! He then admitted they were leather. We had also previously discussed that I did not want leather due to less venting & cause more sweating! I asked if he could order the size 8 4E in black! He stated that the 4E doesn't start until 81/2 ! I started to feel like I was dealing with A "car salesman type,so left the store! Reason writing this review as I called NB headquarters & inquired about when the 4E size is initiated in the 81/2 . They stated that was incorrect! I also called the Tanger outlet re: same also stated incorrect! Side note there was another gentleman sales person wandering in front & back of store not really helping anyone seemed in charge ! He never got involved to ask is there a problem! So I guess 1st time a charm ,2nd time a waste of time! Not to return again! Will go to Tanger Outlet for NB sneakers! Very disappointed with the salesclerk Justin. I purchased my walking foot ware on 10/12/19 and told him I would be walking a lot on my vacation. He was patient and showed lots of footware. I decided on a walking shoe and he advised any problems to bring them back. While he was waiting on me, a woman came in with a pair of sneakers she had for over 6 months. They were worn and looked like she wore them every day. She had no receipt. Well Justin decided they would take them back. It took them over 30 minutes to find her in the computer. They finally returned these she for her. Well today I returned the shoes I bought for my vacation because I wore them one day (even though I wore them before I went away) because I couldn't walk on my vacation with them. I had to stay on the tour bus while everyone enjoyed their day. I had my box, receipt and bag. Well the manager said no problem to Justin to take them back. Well if Justin said it once he said it at least 3 times he was doing me a favor taking them back. I said you told me they were returnable but he said he didn't remember that. I was very disappointed with they way Justin treated me and me return! I am on a fixed income and saved for these shoes that I could not walk in. I have a lot of affinity and trust towards New Balance, as they are the only shoe company that correctly fits my abnormally wide feet. Prior, I was shopping at the local department stores in the mall, particularly JC Penney's (before it went out of business), and was buying the incorrect size shoes. I then was told by an podiatrist to go to a store in Port Jefferson, which was a privately-owned shoe store which carried XXXW shoes (6E width), but at the time I didn't realize how much of a markup I really spent. Fast forward to May 2019, I came into New Balance was greeted by Justin - who became the only person I will come and see for shoes moving forward. Justin is fantastic. He fitted my feet properly to a pair of shoes, and they were $40 less than what I paid last year at the privately owned shoe store in Port Jefferson. I've also came in for sandals, and I'm sure I was one headache of a customer, but Justin was patient and located sandals for me that fit and a pair that were bad were exchanged after a week of purchase. No arguing, no questions asked, just took them right back. That to me speaks volumes and I will forever be a New Balance fan! read more

My 80 year old mother has problem feet and can't find shoes. We have been to many specialty stores and couldn't find anything. The other stores were very rude and not helpful. I recently visited this store after searching for new balance sneakers all over. I could never find a good fit and most stores did not have my size. After my physical therapist recommended new balance sneakers for my planters fasciitis, I gave this store a try. I expected the prices to be high but actually, they were quite reasonable. I probably could have found the same shoe elsewhere for about $15 cheaper BUT.. the customer service could not be beat. He listened to my needs, pointed out some problems with the way I was walking and found me a sneaker that would best support my problem. I tried on several pairs and he was happy to bring me more. We even tried the orthopedic inserts which did not work for me. However, he tried many different combinations of things before I left to make sure I had a comfortable shoe. The selection was probably smaller than if I had gone to a large sporting good store but I probably would have chosen a shoe that did not support my foot properly. Got a gift card from my wife. Stopped in today excited to choose a pair of cross training shoes that I saw on line. Was very disappointed for the lack of selection/ sizes etc. What was even more disappointing was the lack of the store to order the shoes I wanted from their distributor. How can I as a customer have more access to new balance stock than their flagship store?? Makes little sense to me.. The bright spot was the service from the gentleman who work at the store- measured and fitted perfectly. Was totally confused and unhappy that I needed to make my purchase online. Store will need far more choices and stock, or the ability to get it to be successful. read more

My 1st time at this location, had heard good things and i was not let down. Justin ( i think that was his name) came over to ask if i needed any help. He was very nice with his recommendation for the shoe i was looking for. Mark then came over to check on me. I told him i was deciding between a few pairs and he brought me to the machine that sizes you. then measured each foot with the old school device that i have always seen. He was so patient and knowledgeable and not at all pushy. Felt as if he actually cared about the shoe i chose. Tried on several pairs and finally got the one i liked most. Great place for all kinds of sneakers, they take there time with you by measuring your foot and then put your foot on machine which tells you which sneaker is best for you. Came here expecting a traditional shoe buying experience! Quite surprised by the knowledge and help from the employees there. Mark (Could be wrong on name) was awesome and able to take the time and help me out with my issues! Very knowledgeable and not pushy on sales!
