Salad bar had a good variety, there was a section of seafood, sushi, a couple of Chinese food, and desserts. Oh!! They have a chocolate fountain that I forgot to try! Next time. I cannot understand why people are still eating here. They have loquats in the fruit salad bar. Those are pretty good. They are canned so how can you mess that up? But they were out of them tonight. The food is not fresh or even hot. The meats are dried out. The hot and sour soup was not yucky, just bland. The baked crab in scallop shells was ok but not worth the price. My dad loves this place for some reason he can't explain. But honestly EVERYTHING has something off about it. Even the green tea tasted weird. Don't waste your money. read more

I just can't let them get away with the crap this place pulled yesterday (July 5th 2010)! I wanted to try New East and I had the day off so I did. Firstly I was there for lunch and the big red sign said $6.99. OK. I was seated by a very bored girl and the table WAS sticky as others have commented on here. I tried small amounts of most of the hot foods and a few of the cold like the crab legs. I thought pretty much every thing was average or below. The crab legs were OK. The dim-sum was cold as were the egg rolls! The salad and fruit bars looked OK, I didn't try any sushi. The best thing I ate there was the apple pie. Here's the kicker, when she brought me the bill it was $10.99 plus the drink! WHAT? I asked at the counter about this and another very bored girl pointed at a pencil drawn piece of paper taped to the podium that said "dinner special all day $10.99". Whatever that is it didn't pertain to me as I was there for lunch! I didn't see it coming in. The three people behind me didn't see it either and were complaining also. I could see the staff could care less about me or this problem so I paid, explained that I'll never be back and left angry. New Century Buffet is the worst! read more

This is my first time eating a chinese buffet in San Diego. It was an ok experience. The price was fair and cheap for a dinner buffet; around $9.99. Here are my observations: - Food selection was nice as there were quite a lot of dishes to choose ranging from orange chicken, sushi, salad bar, seafood, to fried rice and dessert. - The service was great as they took away plates promptly and were courteous. - I wasn't flattered by the food quality as it didn't jump out at me. It is So tasty; it is definitely worth the drive out there to the nether regions of El Cajon! Where is the beef? Went today to try this Chinese buffet since the reviews seemed to be good, however I was very disapponted. Food was old and dry, very little sea food ( since it was a weekend buffet and you are charged more for the seafood), there wasn't any beef, and the general selection was rather meager compared to other Chinese buffets in San Diego County. I left when I saw children touching the food at the at the trays. However, before I left, I mentioned it to a staff person, but they seemed not to care. The staff does not help at all, every time I have been there I have gotten the feeling that I was not wanted there, the food is on par with other buffets. Last time I went in there at 8pm(they close at 930) there were still 5-6 groups of people eating, but they would not bring out any more food, and you could tell what was there has been sitting there for a bit. After reading all of the 1 star reviews, I decided that I needed to check this place out for myself. I have little faith in 1 star reviews because too many people are unbelievably picky and whiny, and they tend to expect $50 food from a $9 lunch buffet. It was surprisingly busy for 2:30PM on a weekday. There is a lot of seating available here, so you'll never have to wait for a table. There's plenty of Chinese food classics plus a few American food staples. There's a lot of fish and other seafood items, so if you want a good variety of seafood (which I definitely do not) then you're in luck here. The food was good! Not excellent, not poor, but it was good. I loaded up on vegetable chow mein, fried rice, orange chicken, kung pao chicken, "crispy chicken" (which was very similar to General Tso's), and spring rolls. I also got some broccoli out of the beef & broccoli tray to augment my chow mein. For dessert I picked out some chocolate chip cookies and macaroons. They were yummy. No, I didn't get sick afterwards. I didn't spend hours on the toilet. There was nothing wrong with the food. I did not encounter any hostile employees either. My water was frequently and politely refilled without me having to ask. One woman at the cashier's area clearly looked bored, but she doesn't have a stimulating job either. There's nothing wrong with New Century at all. If you're expecting imaginative, top-notch, gourmet 5-star cuisine, go elsewhere. It's a tasty (and standard) Chinese buffet. read more

The only reason my husband and I like going to this place, is for the blue crabs legs, which are served with the dinner buffet. It's not the best Chinese food, but it's okay. Now on the other hand, the customer service is ridiculous! Each time that my husband and I have visited this establishment, the waiter and waitress always have an attitude. Our most recent visit, will be our last visit! We were greeted at the front door by the hostess, she was the only one that was very friendly and had a smile on her face. We were seated then placed an order for a orange soda and water. We went to the buffet, grabbed some blue crab legs and returned to the table. We started eating, still waiting for our drinks. We waited about ten minutes while a waitress and waiter continued to walk past us and help other tables, but they just seemed to ignore us. My husband had to go up to the cashier and ask her if we could get our drinks. Finally the waitress returned with our drinks, which she seemed to have a serious attitude just for doing her job. By the time we finished eating the blue crab legs, we needed refills on our drinks. Here we go again with the waitress ignoring us. She walked right past us to the next table and filled their drinks. I was like ok, maybe we'll be next, nope she acted like she didn't even see us. She kept going like we were invisible. She walked to another table and started clearing it. My husband finally was able to flag her down. We were so frustrated, we ended up leaving right then and there, eating nothing else because the service was so lousy. Very impressed actually despite its location. They had an "A" in the window, the place was very clean.staff quickly cleaned tables, removed plates, refills addressed quickly and soooooo many options for food. There was a lot of tables occupied and the food was constantly replenished. I didn't see 1 empty dish. The food was very good. Multiple steam tables, salad and dessert bar, sushi bar, different soups, steam and fried rice, something for everyone. Kids charged by age. For 3 adults and 2 kids (9,11), we all left full for around $70. Cannot complain, will definitely come again!!!!! read more

The orange chicken was more like barbecue chicken, and the sushi was...how should I put it...bad. I've had good sushi in Russia...and this could not even hold a candle to the sushi I've had. My experience at the New Century Buffet was mixed. The service was prompt and pleasant enough, but the food was fairly mediocre across the board. I tried a variety of dishes, and while there were a couple good ones - the mongolian pork and orange chicken come to mind - the rest was fairly forgettable. The fried rice was also clumpy and bland. And one of my barometers of any Chinese food establishment is their sweet and sour sauce - here New Century fails bigtime, way too much sweet and not enough sour. read more

Cheap but you get what you pay for here. I don't want to hammer this place as it only costs $10/adult for dinner but based on the quality of the food alone, we'll never go there again. The food is all pretty oily, often dried out from sitting in the steam tables for too long, and very little of anything is fresh. If you knew East Buffet, when it was called that on Miramar Blvd, that was the exception to buffets but this is your run of the mill stuff. Even Panda Express food is a couple steps up from the food here. But, again, I realize NCB is $10. It's O-kay. It's a Chinese buffet. Like most other reviewers, expectations are low and the food is cheap. It's good if you're jonesing for fried EVERYTHING. I do enjoy the cream cheese wontons. Sushi isn't great, but it's nice that they offer a couple choices. I like the Hot & Sour soup. Not a fan of the boiled shrimp (I like the poop trail cleaned out before I eat my shrimp). But people seem to love them. There's a few items that I wouldn't go for, mostly seafood that doesn't look "normal" but there are lots of things to choose from. Drink service was good, waitress was friendly.
