I love this place, the food is always fresh, rarely do you find an empty item on the buffet, they are very fast at filling them. It's a great price, you can have lunch there for $10 out the door or less, but $8 for this buffet (lunch prices) and a $2 tip, works well for me. They are always fast with the drink refills, always fast clearing plates. The dining room staff are always friendly. I have not had one bad experience here with any of the food or the staff. As soon as I found this place, I never went back to the old buffet I visited. This Chinese Buffet is amazing! It is most definitely worth the price (which is very reasonable). There are some parts of it that could be improved (especially their "American" buffet options) but the CHINESE aspect of this restaurant is superb. I eat here at lest twice a month and have been every since the restaurant opened. The sushi is extremely fresh as well, something you would not expect from a $10 buffet. Food is good and plentiful. Come hungry and lower your expectations. It's not gourmet and the selections don't change. But it is a good choice when you want selection and are really hungry! I won't be going back here ever again. Bad customer service. When my brother went to the front desk he asked how much does it cost for drinks and one of the workers did a face to him and told him to shh. That's honestly rude. The food was very gross. I felt sick afterwards. When we didn't ask for the check yet and we were still eating the guy came by and just gave us a check like we did not ask for it yet. For the money, a good value. My wife and mother in law are great cooks and when they are tired of cooking, we come here for a decent, filling meal. Never had any major disappointments but I'm not expecting Mr. A's quality from an $8 buffet. I love the food here too, but went I went with a friend the end of Dec, the restaurant was freezing inside.we went and got our food the only thing hot was the won ton soup, the food was ice cold. Not even a little warm. I told 1 of the waiters, but he just shrugged his shoulders. We went ahead and ate it because we were hungry. When I went to pay the bill the cashier said that the person who was supposed to turn the heat on that morning forgot. I thought she might at least give us a discount, but nothing from her. The only thing that really didn't sit well with us was when my friends and I had finished eating, the waiter made us leave because were taking up the space. Mind you, it wasn't busy and there were plenty of tables open. This is the best Chinese buffet in San Diego when you consider price and quality: $7.50 lunch and $10 dinner. This includes a non-optional refillable drink and unlimited trips to the buffet. I do not know take-out prices. At that price, it means you won't get the same quality sushi you get at a good sushi bar or Todai seafood buffet, but it is much better than the nearby New East Buffet and you shouldn't even compare it to terrible grocery store sushi. Some days are better than others though. As to the Chinese food, it is much tastier than Panda Express, but a bit shy of normal sit down Chinese places, as would be expected of a fast-food style buffet. Dinner time adds steak, walnut shrimp, and fried crab legs, but looses the popcorn shrimp. New Century Buffet also has a good deal of very tasty dishes that you might miss if you're not looking for them. The "Teriyaki Chicken" that is really red and looks like it might be port is amazing. Also, look for the lobster rolls, fried calamari, fried plantains, chicken wings, and octopus salad (much like octopus kelaguen). The only thing New Century really misses out on is deserts. Nothing is special, or even that good. Sub-par ice cream soft serve, standard almond cookies, some decent cream puffs, macaroons, and fancy things shaped like giant flat pretzels that are pretty good. My bf and I drove by this buffet and decided to check it out. As soon as we went in, we were seated in a booth. We both went to the restroom and I noticed the restrooms were very messy as if no one had cleaned it since opening. There was toilet paper everywhere, the trash cans were full, and the paper towels were low. When I walked out, my bf asked if we wanted to stay here and eat. I said sure. I'm thinking he subconsciously wanted to flee this place. We both walked out to the buffet and I noticed the floors were very dirty as if they hadn't been cleaned for a week. The food looked ok so we started plating the food. We sat down at our booth and noticed the table beside us had a lot of children differing in ages standing right by our table, playing, talking, staring, etc. It was distracting and began getting annoying. We both looked at the children's parents and they were in deep conversation and didn't give a rat's butt that their children were in our bubble. We decided to grab our stuff and move tables on our own. The wait staff were chatting and one looked over as we moved and remained emotionless. I took a bite of the stuffed mushroom and instantly spat it out in my napkin. It tasted bad, something in it was expired. Fail! My bf told me not to eat the fried fish I had plated. He was very vague, but I knew he didn't want to linger on the subject. The beef and broccoli was ok. The string bean stir-fry was ok too. The lobster roll was made out of cabbage and imitation crab, but possibly expired. It didn't taste right at all. That was my second spit out. I had some chicken wings, but it tasted old to me. I went up to get another plate of what we figured out was "good stuff" aka edible. I noticed there was a new batch of grilled pieces of NY steak (it was good). A young girl decided to stand in front of it eating it and practically guarding it. I didn't want to stand next to her and put pressure on her, but after 2 minutes of waiting, I did exactly that. I got more beef and broccoli and string bean stir fry. I scanned the sushi and it looked unenticing, so I decided to skip it. I browsed the desserts and noticed that same young girl and her younger sister chatting and blocking the desserts. I stood beside them and again assumed the "stance", trust me it wasn't confrontational or anything like that ;p Their subconscious minds made their feet walk slowly away, but then I saw why they were standing there. They were getting attention from one of the workers. He was making it absolutely known that he was checking them out. He looked over 30 years old and the girls were under 15 or younger... I am so glad I broke up that "party". Total yuckeroo. As a result, I couldn't even look at the dessert. I went back to my handsome bf. We stared in each other's eyes and vowed never to eat at this place again. When we paid the bill, we didn't get a fortune cookie or even a darn mint. Ok first of all i dont know who all of these people are that are giving this place excellent reviews,the only thing i could think is that its their employes trying to make this place sound good because i took my family there for the first time tonight and let me tell you my experience with this place.First of all my daughter found hair in the chow mein noodles and i told an employee and she just walked away(couldnt care less)so then i went and told another man he actually had them replace it.then i went to go make a salad and found 8 dirty plates the first 2 i gave to a lady employee and then found 6 more took those to the manager and he said things happen..Areyou kidding me 8 DIRTY PLATES things happen i dont think so.so i got my check and went to pay and told the manager about everything that happened to us and he said i can take off $11.00 are you kidding me?so i paid the $36.00 and i am now going to cook dinner because my whole family is still hungry.and last but not least the place is FILTHY DIRTY,the forks are so old that you cant even pick up the food....so ifyou want a good meal DO NOT EAT HERE........The only reason i checked 1 star is because you have to give something but i wouldnt even give them a half of a star...DONT EAT HERE!!!!!!!! read more

Awful. Went here last night, the price for dinner is $11.29 for the buffet. The food was dried out and nasty, and I tried almost everything there. I think the "sushi" was the worst feature, it tasted like something that had been chopped up on the guard rails of the OB pier and left out in the sun for days. The service was a joke. They only needed to take drink orders, and they messed it up FOUR TIMES. Heres the best part - halfway during our meal, a giant cockroach crawled under the table, and thank goodness we killed it because they were denying that it happened. After we showed them the smashed bug, one of the bus boys just laughed and walked away. Some of the people I was with refused to pay, and the person at the register argued with them until they finally gave in and let them go without paying for their meal. This place is a joke. so i normally come here with the kids and the food is OK. but today we actually had to say something to the busser and the cashier. both restrooms were disgusting. toilet water/toilet paper all over the floor of all the stalls. two of the dishes I had were ice cold like they were pre-made and taken out of the walk-in and served but missed a step. the orange chicken was tough. then we went back up to try something else and one of the workers was iphoning while wiping down the buffet counters and coughing all over the sneeze guards without even attempting to cover his mouth. wont be back read more

I am giving this restaurant a one star because zero is not an option. I visited New Century Buffet on Saturday March 1st 2014 at around noon. I was there with a lot of family many of which were from other states. We have probably been there about a dozen times and it goes down hill more each time we eat there. While we were eating in the upper dining area, several employees were actually preparing food in the dining area just a few table away from us. One employee was preparing a green bean dish and another two were preparing some sort of rice dish using their hands to scoop and roll rice balls. After the food was prepared and placed on a tray, another employee used his teeth to tear the plastic wrap to cover the food. I went to go speak to a manager and they do not speak/understand enough English to be able to even answer a basic question such as where is the soy sauce. My wife has a lot of Chaldean family who eats at this place pretty regularly, I can tell you that this will not be happening any longer. I will be filing a complaint with the health department and sending them the pictures I took of the food prep in the dining area. read more

HORRIBLE! My family and I just finished eating here and I have got to say that it was, BY FAR, the worst Chinese buffet we've ever been to (and we've been to ALOT!). An hour before closing and most of the trays were already empty. Even if the trays would've been full, the selection woudn't have been great. So much for 5 stars. We went recently and the food was awesome soo soo very delicious. I had to keep going back for more. However... I had not entered the BATHROOM at that point. The bathroom was extremely dirty and smelly, I figured someone had just used it so I disregarded the smell. Days go by, I'm back at the restaurant, same disgusting smell and this time I almost threw up because I realized why it smelled soo bad. The toilet looked like it had been leaking shallow swamps of sewer water on the floor. I would have said something (even though i'm sure they already knew it was a mess in there for dayyyyysssss) but I was too disgusted and left horrified as fast as I could. What if that nastiness got tracked onto the seats by kids, you put your hands on the seat to sit down, then proceed to eat swampy sewer water??? Makes me sick to my stomach. OMG, this used to be my favorite Chinese Buffet ever. However, Sunday, Jan 4th, after church, my husband and I decided to go eat some great food. There was a server their that kept hacking, coughing, and sucking up her mucous. Every 5 minutes we would hear this loud hacking, coughing, and most gross noise sucking up the mucous. Then as we peeped over our table to see if it was a customer or a server, after coughing all over the food, she would, without gloves move the food around with the spoon. It was the most HORRIBLE experience ever. Before we left, we told the owner/manager that we think a server was sick. He said, yes she is, but someone will relieve her at 12. Really? So in the meantime it's okay for her to be spreading her germs all over the food. Maybe this is why we get so many different colds and flu's. Horrible, horrible, horrible experience. WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN OR RECOMMEND TO ANY OF OUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. Gross to the end. read more

I have been to this buffet many times over the past couple of years. I have noticed the place is going down hill, bathrooms dirty, trash overflowing, and graffiti on walls, carpet black from grease and worn out. Ice cream machine filthy, the door the kitchen was open and all i can say is what a disaster. How they have an A on the window from the health department i don't know. they turn on a/c to 77 degrees to save money on hot summer days. messy buffet area, food nothing special. RUDE! DONT EAT HERE! Food was not that great, and the service was horrible. We had 8 people in our party so they told us that they would automatically charge us a 10% tip, which we didn't mind. However, the lady that was supposed to be serving us was so rude. It's a buffet so it's not like we have to be served our food, but she never came to refill our drinks, when we called her to ask her for a refill she would walk away, and she kept giving us dirty looks.
